4.5 STARS Who stress…read moreeats? *RAISES BOTH HANDS* After a stressful morning, forget my lunch of baked chicken and a salad. Hello, Filipino food! Nothing says, comfort like a Filipino meal of carby and meaty goodness. Julsilog is a new Filipino eatery operating out of a ghost kitchen inside a Bayview hub that I regularly order delivery from. Takeout and delivery only. ***Grand Opening Promo via UberEats: $8 off your order*** ($30 minimum order) Per 3rd party delivery app, Julsilog is open until midnight on the weekdays and until 2 am on weekends. Perfect for the late night drunchies! M E N U Silogs: Filipino breakfast plates with garlic rice and a fried egg. Protein options: Pork chop, fried chicken, embutido (meatloaf), tapa (calamansi cured beef), tocino (cured sweet pork), spam, and Impossible burger. They also have lumpia shanghai, wings, fries, ube shake, and buko pandan dessert. Everything is under $12 so very wallet-friendly. I ordered via UberEats and my order took about an hour to be delivered. It arrived warm and properly sealed to prevent tampering. Each item was packed in a compostable container (except dessert) and labeled...including the sauces. Utensils were fully wrapped. I appreciate the attention to details. F O O D * Lumpia Shanghai (6 pc - $6) Can we take a moment to appreciate the presentation? Most lumpia shanghai are just thrown in a brown paper bag. You can't go wrong with this Filipino staple. The wrapper got a bit limp in transit but that's what a toaster oven/air-fryer/pan is for. * Tocilog: Sweet cured pork w/ garlic rice, egg, tomato-cucumber salad The tocino was rich, juicy, and moist with sweet-smoky caramelized edges. Not chewy or overly sweet like some tocino can be. GET THIS! Despite delivery, liquid gold flowed out and all over the rice when cutting into the fried egg. The garlic rice was ok...def needs more garlic because it tasted more like plain white rice to me. * Embosilog: Beef Meatloaf w/ garlic rice, egg, and cucumber tomato salad ($12.25) The embutido was delicious and stuffed with Filipino hot dog (pork) and boiled egg. For the silog, you get a choice of 2 sauces: banana ketchup, all purpose sauce (mang tomas), and/or garlic vinegar. I liked the garlic vinegar w/ red onions the best to balance all the savory richness. * Buko Pandan w/ coconut, pandan, sweet cream, jelly ($5) Nice sweet ending to a delicious meal. Lots of soft and chewy jelly and coconut. For those sensitive to MSG, I was quite thirsty afterwards so fair warning. Ghost kitchens can be a hit or miss so I was really impressed with Julsilog. Not only was the food delicious with generous portions, it was a great value and thoughtfully packed. If you're craving some Filipino comfort food, give this new business a try!

I could tell the food was freshly made by someone who knows what they're doing! Tried the fresh squeezed mango lemonade too. Very nice and refreshing. I Do Phở You is a new business located at 90 Charter Oak (ghost kitchen) offering takeout and delivery. M E N U Viet fare: Spring rolls, imperial rolls, bánh mì, bún (vermicelli bowls), phở, bún riêu, BBH, and cơm tấm (broken rice). For drinks: Viet coffee, Thai iced tea, and milk tea. I ordered via DoorDash and my order was delivered hot and thoughtfully packed....in 30 minutes. Soup container was wrapped in a plastic bag to prevent spillage. Cute logo stickers. Side note: I did a price comparison and DD is several dollars less in service fees than Uber Eats. F O O D * House Special - Cơm Tấm Sườn Bì Trứng: Broken Rice w/ pork chops, shredded pork skin, egg ($18): https://tinyurl.com/2asxzbwj --Pork chops (sườn nướng): Two pork chops intensely infused with fragrant lemongrass and topped with scallion oil. They were quite dry but the flavor made up for it. --Shredded Pork Skin (bì): A personal must for me, I love the chewy gelatinous texture. --Overeasy egg (trứng): Still had an oozy yolk, enuff said. --Broken rice (cơm tấm): Perfectly cooked with shorter grains soaking up the pork chop marinade, liquid gold, and scallion oil. Not sure why it's so hard to find this in the city. --Salad: Crisp iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, and pickled veggies. --Nước chấm: The fish dipping sauce was on-point, punchy and tangy with a funk. Not watered down. Yay for including a side of chili paste for heat. * Bún Bò Huế: Spicy Beef Noodle Soup w/ pork, ham, beef shank, pork blood ($16.95): https://tinyurl.com/5xnt7e78 --Broth: Arrived piping hot, the broth was bold, flavorful, citrusy, and spicy. Not msg-y. --Proteins: Tender thinly sliced pork + beef shank, chả lụa (ham), and two blood cubes (in the broth). There's a lot of noodles so it could have used more protein. --Noodles: Sadly, the thick rice noodles were overcooked, broken, and mushy. --Accompaniments/garnish: Shredded cabbage, mint, basil, and lemon. No banana blossoms. --Sa tế: The lemongrass chili oil packs a spicy punch so you can dial up the heat. Overall, I Do Phở You has their flavors down solid. I think if they can get their timing right for their pork chops and noodles, they'll be a solid fiver.

We ordered a few…read moretreats for Thanksgiving and I went to pick them up at their Thanksgiving Order Pickup tent tonight. Cole Valley was really beautiful on a crisp November night with all the holiday lights already up and looking festive. I had already paid for my food so I was very surprised when I approached the tent and they not only handed me a cup of hot apple cider but had me spin a wheel to 'win a prize'. Now, this is not one of those 'you won the chance to win - now give us your email' kind of wins....this was a handmade wheel where every single place the dial could land on won a prize. The woman in front of me won a bottle of fancy olive oil and she laughed because her husband won the same - so now they have olive oil up the wazoo but that's OK 'cause it's expensive and very high quality stuff, ha! It was very generous of Luke's to give that away! And I won a pound of coffee! In short, everyone who came to pick up their Thanksgiving order tonight was a winner - they came away with a very nice gift as well as a cup of hot cider. Luke's didn't need to do that - they already had my money for the food so I was very impressed. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.

In addition, they never upped their delivery fee during the pandemic, and those who deliver are gracious and professional. I really like this grocery store. The homemade cranberry sauce during the holidays is worth the extra trip and hunt for a parking space, and you'll never make your own again. Yes, there is a 'but,' and that is their website, which is never up to date and some items are mislabeled, although the latter issue is not very common. This has been going on for some time and I am loathe to criticize them, but really feel I must. My grocery habits are changing because I can never count on what I ordered being available and therefore the dinner menu is unknowable (Moroccan meatballs, Acme rustic baguette, to name but two), so I stick to what's been available most of the time. I also totally realize this is a first-world problem, but if I were the owner, I'd like to know my business was suffering. Otherwise, don't change a thing.
