The food is delicious. Until they try to kill you. I order the vegan meals. So beans are a significant part of at least half the meals I receive. But fairly consistently--like one out of every 5 meals--the beans are not properly cooked. This isnt' just a matter of taste.There are many beans that are literally poisonous when not fully cooked. As somebody who eats/cooks beans alot, I could tell immediately and stopped eating them. I shudder at someone who is using Thistle to transition to a more plant-based diet and who doesn't know that an unfamiliar bean should not be crunchy and hard. If you have a court tester who will make sure the meals are not poisonous before you eat them AND if you have the money to throw out 20% of the food you pay for, then give it a go. I'm canceling my subscription because of a series of delivery glitches that happened these past weeks. A shame because the meals are tasty. We had a few deliveries where a meal was missing. But the main issue we have is with their delivery. Most of the time, delivery instructions are not followed. Most drivers don't use the callbox and let the bag in front of the building, in a busy street. And when they get into the building, some drivers are very imaginative to find a place to drop the bag, like behind a plant or in the paper recycling bin. And the cherry on the cake: my last delivery. The driver came 1.5 hour too early in the morning and left the bag in front of my building (again...) When I say too early, it was around 6.45 am instead of 8 am. [Edit Jan 18] Today's delivery: driver called to say she was coming but didn't come. I received the text confirming the delivery (nothing on the camera footage) 15 min later... If you call the CS, you won't speak to a rep but have to leave a message. We actually really love to cook (and go out to restaurants) but struggle to find the time, so we end up eating quick unhealthy things when we're too exhausted. We decided to give thistle a try to get healthy habits going again and we're both very impressed. The food is ridiculously good, super fresh and super gourmet. My delivery was left at a church. After contacting customer service to discuss the problem, I was again hopeful delivery would be a breeze. Wrong again. The below text conversation basically sums up the customer service on the delivery side. Deplorable! Thistle is supposed to make life easier, however, in my experience it has been the exact opposite. Mind you, I use the same delivery instructions universally and have not had a problem outside of Thistle. Unfortunately, I absolutely will not be reordering and absolutely do NOT recommend. PAST REVIEW I love Thistle! I've been using the service for the past month for breakfast, lunch and juice. The variety is great and you can rest assured always super healthy. Not only did Thistle make my life easier by saving time in grocery shopping and food prep, I was also able to try a ton of things I would have never tried on my own. Rip off. Rip off. Rip off. Do the math, if you get the most baller item on the menu - a chicken salad with a single hard-boiled egg, it's $19.24. The regular salads are around $15. I've had a couple things that were good, but mostly everything was the same... no flavor... no soul to the food... felt like it was all full of fillers like cheap old quinoa and beans. To me, the brand went from utopian Vegan dream, before I ordered... to money-making assembly line food factory, after I ordered... It feels a bit phoned in... just "good enough for social" in terms of photographing well, or having thoughtfully named meals that don't deliver on the experience. Little things like receiving the tiniest little sauce cup for a dish that is totally dry and bland... or instructions that just say "heat in a skillet with sauce to desired temperature or serve cold" on a meal... which is it? Am I supposed to be warming it? Or heating it until the spinach wilts? Is it a salad (cold) or a hot meal? I don't think there really is any thought going into it... as evidenced by the fact that all the meal kits I received all had those same generic instructions. I am NOT impressed. It's like getting a salad at a low end grocery store but paying $15 and having no flavor. I literally just signed up for this service and have already been having a horrible time. First, my delivery was dropped off at the wrong address. Upon reaching out to inform them I hadn't gotten it, and suggesting that maybe it was left at the wrong address, the customer support agent literally just said that they had credited my account with the money I had paid for the meals. That was it. There was no offer of other options, such as delivering the food the next day or any other day. They also did not offer to reimburse me, so basically I still have to spend that money through Thistle. And honestly, seeing as the mistake was entirely on their end you would think they would have credited me more than just the amount I spent, but again that wasn't even an offer. They just told me my account was credited and that was it. Then when I reached out to request that instead they deliver the food a different day, the customer support person *literally ghosted me*. I just never heard back. So the next day I reached out to Thistle again, requesting a phone call since I basically felt ignored through the online chat support. And since then Thistle is still ghosting me. You would think that seeing as this is my very first time trying the service they would be a bit more intentional with their customer service but that is not seeming likely at this point. Finally I just have to say that I find it pretty disconcerting that there literally is no way to call the company and speak with a real human. The prices are unjustifiable. What is unacceptable is the delivery service. They come outside the hours you've specified, they don't follow instructions, and items are frequently missing. The Yelp responses from Ashwin about these issues are generic and refuse to admit that they have systematic delivery problems. No doubt Ashwin will respond to this review with the typical formulaic response: (thanks for the review) + (so sorry you're having issues) + (semi-customized expression of empathy) + (here's our email address) + (we look forward to a resolution). The problem is that based on how widespread the delivery issues are, they are not going to get resolved until Thistle acknowledges that they are not one-off flukes and that something is going very wrong in their model. Been using Thistle for the past month. I look forward to the food. I get about 4-5 lunches or dinners a week. I like the lunch dishes the best. This is the way I always wanted to eat, but never had the time, ingredients, and imagination to make it. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. Thistle has no regard for the customer experience, canceling deliveries without prior notice and now even going so far as to drop off deliveries in the middle of the night. My partner and I canceled our service one week in due to the lack of explanation behind our no-show delivery, but Thistle still decided it appropriate to send a driver at 1 am (yes, you read that right) to drop off a delivery outside our building which was gone by the time we got there...if indeed it was ever there to begin with. At what point does the Better Biz Bureau get involved? I've stopped my Thistle service in the past few months after over a year of service -- I'm not sure if they had major changes to their driving staff or other issues, but at a certain point a few months ago, my deliveries went haywire. I didn't change my instructions but my food wasn't making it during its delivery window, and when it did, it was left in the wrong spots (which made me late for work a number of times). After a few weeks of this, I just decided to cancel. I genuinely liked their food, but I was also getting a bit tired of the same recipes. I'd love to see them integrate different types of whole proteins (tofu, seitan, etc) with more variety to the dressings. There's only so many times I want the same kale caesar salad for lunch! My other gripe was that they stopped offering their cold brew and latte options. These were SO GOOD, and I've yet to have a dairy-free iced latte as delicious as theirs. It was so nice having a fresh cold brew packaged and ready for me every morning too. They do offer coffee now, but it's beans instead of the prepared cold brew. Another thing I'd be interested in is waste-free packaging. I've seen other delivery services offer a downpayment for glass containers, and when you're finished with your meals you return the washed glass container for re-use. The solution is to credit the account, not to re-deliver the missing order. Though we loved the food, we had to stop ordering about a year ago due to inconsistent delivery and bag pick-up. We moved and restarted our deliveries thinking there was enough time that maybe the delivery issues had been resolved (or maybe it was specific to location). In just our 2nd delivery of our restart, only 1/2 the order showed up (meaning 1 of us in the household doesn't have a meal). I was a customer of thistle for many months. The food quality is high, portions are decent . Delivery was not an issue for me. My problem is that the price has skyrocketed where it's honestly just unaffordable to be able to use this regularly. I believe at the end I was paying something like $18 a meal for anything that contained meat. That's completely absurd. I canceled. If the pricing goes back to somewhat normal let's say 11-14 bucks a meal I'll sign back on otherwise I don't know how this place will survive charging folks almost 20 bucks for a lunch salad with a few pieces of chicken in it. If the prices are going to stay consistently high they need to up the portions by about 30% and possibly do an incentive where you get a free meal every 10 meals or something like that.
