I thought at first this place looked like a tourist trap but it was really quite lovely and I had a delicious burger. The owner is super into Wizard of Oz and there is memorabilia everywhere as well as some fun artwork. Make sure you check out the bathroom before you go. I would definitely recommend.
This was recommended by the hotel. I couldn't believe I'd come to Amsterdam and my first meal would be a burger. Well, it was and it was good. The vibe inside is Oz - I didn't get the reference but lots of Wizard of names for the burgers and such. I got the most basic one and it was still loaded!! I ordered mine with sweet potato fries. Can quickly and really cooked to perfection - burger and fries. I dined solo so I was directed to the bar. Not the most comfortable seating but it wasn't terrible. This place is in the heart of the museum district so if you find yourself here after hitting up one of the museums, it's a good find for lunch or early dinner.
Very kitschy Wizard of Oz themed burger joint next to all the touristy spots in Amsterdam! Definitely for the American crowd, they know their audience and opened in prime real estate. Unfortunately, part of the reason I know why this is catered towards Americans is that they have a mandatory 15% surcharge. This would not fly in traditional Europe. Unfortunately, as a Bay native, I will say that I am used to this. I will say, the quality of the food was really good. If you're craving a place with a bit of flair and high quality ingredients while also having a taste of home after consistently eating your way through European cuisine on your vacation, this is the spot for you. My boyfriend and I got the if I only had a heart, along with the truffle mac n cheese and fries with pulled pork. I can feel my arteries clogging as I type this out. The pulled pork was plentiful and quite sweet; it went well with the fries after being mixed in. This did prove a tad difficult to do without creating a mess, since the container was on the smaller side. The truffle mac n cheese was creamy and not watery, just the way my boyfriend and I like it. The burgers themselves are probably some of the best, we've never had avocado and tortilla chips in a burger for free (granted, this is already baked into the retail price). The veggies are fresh, and each bite you take has such an insane amount of texture and flavor packed in it. So savory and indulgent. I took a photo with my hand for scale just to show how difficult it can be to get all of that in one bite!

Hubby and I shared "The Scarecrow" which is double 180g beef patty,!brioche, crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, carmelized onions, pickle, tomato and romaine lettuce (€26/46 for wagyu). We added avocado for €3 and regular fries which are hand cut daily at €7,5. For desert, we ordered a chocolate shake (€7,5) and upgraded to a "freakshake" (€7). The interior decor is very cool and has a nice vibe to it. A definite must-try restaurant and we are glad we stopped in. We are even happier that we shared the entire meal because it is a LOT of food. Total bill for one hamburger, one order of fries, ketchup, a shake, the jitterbug iced tea and a beer: €70,50 + 15% surcharge is ........€81,08 Overall impression: Worth it!!
After a long day walking around the city, we found this cute themed restaurant very close to the Van Gogh and Rijksmusuem. A relaxed room with interesting decor. Staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions. I tried the waygu burger sampler with three sliders. Excellent tasting burgers. The table shred a prefer of fries. My gf had a burger of her own design and loved it. All burgers were cooked to order (medium rare). We'd definitely stop back when next in Amsterdam.
I stumbled upon The Burger Room when I was in the museum district during my holiday in Amsterdam. They have an Alice in Wonderland theme at their restaurant. Don't get it twisted,The Burger Room is a high end burger spot. I ordered the Back to Kansas burger(14 Euros) with the waygu beef upgrade(An Extra 10 Euros) with fries. The burger was good not great. It could have been more flavorful for the high price of it. I didn't taste a major difference with the waygu beef upgrade and it was cooked well done. It should have been cooked to medium or they should have asked how I wanted it cooked. The fries were nice and crispy as expected(they love good and crispy fries in Amsterdam).The Yellow Brick Road cocktail(15.5 Euros)was very refreshing and worth the money in my opinion. The service itself was very good and I did like the decor. The major issue was the 15% surcharge they are going to charge you. The food is a little overpriced for what you receive. It's an okay spot that I would not revisit the next time I'm on holiday in Amsterdam.

Our server told us that the owner is a huge Wizard of Oz fan (and very tall as well) and you'll note it in the menu, the decor, and of course, the downstairs. I had the Cyclone burger (black angus) which comes with foie gras, truffle mayo on a brioche bun. It was juicy, decadent and delicious. We shared an order of fries (very good). The burgers came out very fast, were towering on the plate, I ate it with a knife and fork (we fancy). The food was good, the ambience is fun. They brought us mini burger candies at the end and sent us off with stroopwaffles too. Whether you are an Oz fan (I am) or not, a meal Somewhere Over the Rainbow may be exactly what you need!
How is it possible that the best burger I've ever had in my life was in Amsterdam? I've eaten burgers in the American South East and if you were to challenge a Texan that the Dutch could take the prize for best burger from a roadhouse outside of Dallas or Houston where the perfecting of beef for the highly discerning public falls somewhere between art and religion, they would scoff, shake their heads, smile, and offer a kind "bless your heart" in response. In a past lifetime, I worked in Texas for years. Burgers, BBQ, Beer.... Brilliant. I never would have believed it had I not walked by The Burger Room after being truly amazed by priceless artwork a few steps away at the Van Gogh museum and suggested we go inside. So now, when I think of Dutch cuisine, I won't forget the Bitterballen, the Pannekoeken, the Kibbeling, or the Stroopwafels... nor will I forget the burgers.
The Burger Room is located right near the Van Gogh museum. The decor theme is "The Wizard of Oz" - some interesting photos and memorabilia, but I'm not sure what the burger connection. The decor and prices are upscale for a burger joint. One can choose between Wagyu and angus beef for a burger. The Wagyu is twice the price. We all tried the Wagyu. The burgers were good but I have had better. For those who do not want beef, there are veggie burgers and chicken sandwiches. 19 year old loved the chicken sandwich. The restaurant charges extra for everything-ketchup, pickles, sauces. It all adds up. Service was super fast. We enjoyed our meal but not worth the over $200 price tag. Next time I would try the angus beef!

Oh it's a super cute place. That's about it. If you're going because you want to take photos, do it. Don't go for the staff! Run in the opposite direction! Food, you can find better at FEBO! Meh. Let's start when we walked in, shall we?! My daughter is a dual citizen. So, she goes into a NL establishment speaking Nederland. Don't. The guy there is extremely rude about NOT speaking it. Okay as an Ami, I get it. It's Wizard of Oz themed. Based in Kansas. But, you're in NL I expect it to be a THEME based thing, maybe speak the native language. His demeanor was just rude. We saw & heard him be arrogantly rude to two other customers after us. It just left a bad vibe. Now the waitress just acted like she was called in on her day off, & her pay was cut in addition. I'm sure that's not the case, but it felt that way. The food was warm & okay. I enjoyed going with my daughter. Would I ever go back or recommend this place? Absolutely not, but simply based on the staff, not the food. The food was ok. Replace the staff, & I could see a big improvement. Period. Also, with so much seating, maybe let customers sit further apart & not right next to one another. Neat place Mediocre food Staff sucked
The drinks were excellent and the burgers delicious. The truffle Mac and cheese was also excellent. Chatted briefly with the owner who was very excited to hear we were from Kansas. The wizard of oz theme came from his love of the movie and there are some nice touches of the film sprinkled throughout the restaurant.
What a cute little hidden gem! The dining area was on theme and tastefully curated with the Wizard of Oz decor. The staff was super friendly and attentive. The food came out very quickly and wow, for a burger spot, this place was AMAZING! The burger flavors were fresh, flavorful, and the portion was massive! Had to add truffle fries and I can't say enough great things. All the ingredients are so fresh and everything is of course made to order. If you're in Amsterdam I highly recommend stopping in! They do have a fun list of cocktails that looked fun and delicious, but I did not try one so I can't speak to the taste, but if it's anything like the rest of this place, it'll be wonderful! A fun little touch is when they bring you your bill you get a little gummy burger and a peppermint, how fun! read more

I recently visited The Burger Room with friends for lunch after a visit to the Rijksmuseum. I had the Wagyu Tasting with a side of Parmesan Truffle Fries. The tasting featured three mini-specialty burgers. The burgers were ok; cooked well done and not very juicy. One of the burgers had a tangy blue cheese and another meaty bacon but overall, a forgettable bland tasting. I did really like the fries which were soft and savory with a mountain of parmesan and a side of creamy truffle mayo. read more

Very very good and quirky burger shop in the museum district in Amsterdam. There is am Alice in wonderland theme which is very fun and done in an exaggerated way. My husband is a big burger guy and loved his slider assortment. I loved my Kansas burger, fresh, juicy and perfectly cooked. Our friends enjoyed theirs as well, another slider sampler and a salad. This is a great spot for lunch in Amsterdam, a bit expensive as everything including Mayo is an extra charge, but it's excellent if burgers are your thing and worth a splurge once in a while. There cocktails were also very good, generous sized and the right mix. If back in Amsterdam we would definitely go back, solid 4 star spot. read more

I'm a little late posting this review but better late than not at all. I visited Amsterdam back in September for my birthday trip. I have to say that several people had told me that the food in Amsterdam wasn't very good. And my reply was that I can find good food anywhere....as long as I have Yelp. :-) The Burger Room did not disappoint. My friend and I came her for lunch after visiting one of the museums. I had the scarecrow. I only paid attention to the toppings and didn't realize until it came out that it was a double patty burger. OMG... this thing was huge! And so delicious. Seasoned perfectly. I also had the parmesan truffle fries which were equally as delicious. Of course I had to have a cocktail to go with my lunch...because why not.. I had the rum punch. It was perfect. Nice and sweet like I like my drinks witch the perfect rum kick. Burgers aren't the first thing that come to mind when you are in Amsterdam but after going here it will be for me... Whenever I come back to Amsterdam I'll definitely return here. read more
Great experience here. Friends were here a couple of months ago and recommended it - so when in oz...kidding aside, the wizard of oz theme and details (from decor to every menu item) this place is awesome. They even have the movie playing and replica shoes on display downstairs where the bathrooms are. Our server was great, seated us right away, and walked us through the menu. We ordered the back to Kansas burger (burger, special sauce, lettuce, tomato, brioche bun), and the ding dong ahi tuna - which came with a very generous portion of ahi which was very flavorful with teriyaki sauce, wasabi mayo and Romain also on a brioche bun. The fries are great to share, and were perfectly crispy. Overall the meal was great, service was wonderful, atmosphere amazing! Highly recommend. read more

Overrated! Maybe if we'd shelled out for Wagyu it would be another matter, but the regular burgers were only so-so. However, if you don't mind paying too much for an only OK burger, the Wizard of Oz themed interior, including the ruby slippers near the restrooms, is a lot of fun, and the location in the Museum District is very convenient. read more

No Children under 5 allowed or stroller? Are walkers allowed? Are foreigners allowed? Their whole menu is based on Wizard of Oz and they don't allow children? What narcissistic hypocrites! I hope that the city points out this is clear age discrimination. As other reviews state their service is predatory and deceitful and the burgers are not good enough to warrant this abuse. No wonder they are empty! read more

So, we were staying at a hotel in Amsterdam that has a shuttle that drops you off right in front of the Van Gogh museum. On one of our trips into the Amsterdam museum district we were super hungry and spotted 'The Burger Room' sign across the street. We were so lucky to find this adorable restaurant! The Burger Room is fairly new and it has a 'Wizard of Oz' theme! Yes I'm a fan. I loved the 'Wizard of Oz' and would watch the black & white and colored version any time it was on tv as a kid. I was in love with 'The Wiz'. I saw 'Wicked' on Broadway in NY more times than I'll admit. I also happened to have on green so I HAD to take tons of pics. We were told we could sit anywhere so we chose a solarium in the back of the restaurant. It was the best seating in the house with the best lighting in the daytime for food pics! First, I want to say that our server was awesome. He broke down the menu and the restaurant and let us know how wonderful the shakes were. I let him know that I hadn't had good coffee for the day, so as much as I wanted one I would order from the coffee menu. He offered to put a shot of espresso in my Chocolate Shake! That shake was phenomenal and woke me up for our trekking through Amsterdam afterward. Note that they also serve hard shakes (with alcohol) and FreakShakes! There are also numerous cocktails, an extensive wine list and they even serve sparkling iced tea as a soft drink. We were there for burgers. It was tough not to order the Ding Dong (a teriyaki burger with wasabi) or the Twister (a half lobster half angus burger with bearnaise sauce) because they sound so good. I ordered the IF I ONLY HAD THE NERVE - STEAK AU POIVRE BURGER, which is an angus, bleu cheese and pepper sauce burger. I really wanted it because the sauce wasn't mayo based. I accompanied my burger with parmesan truffle fries that came in a tiny cast iron skillet. The condiments came in little one time use tubes. Not only was the presentation adorable, but the burger and fries were delicious. I highly recommend it! My mom got the Back to Kansas burger because she wanted something traditional. My cousin wanted something without meat so she got the Over the Rainbow Burger, which has portobello, goat cheese and caramelized onions. It looked so good. Be prepared to take photos at this restaurant! I was smitten by all the Wizard of Oz detail. The solarium has walls that are plastered with Celebrity Photos eating burgers. Yes, I took selfies with those too. Outside of the sunroom was a little garden with a gold lamp. Hard to not pose in front of it. I normally try to skip restrooms if I can, however as travelers I was trying to find a restroom everywhere I went. Going down the stairs to the restroom is a treat in itself. Don't forget to bring your phone/camera with you. It's a mini Wizard of Oz museum! The golden slippers are featured in a glass case and another glass case plays the original movie on a screen. You can literally stand around in this bathroom for an hour and be entertained. The stalls, the sinks, the mirrors...everything was adorned with Wizard of Oz detail. Note that the restroom is unisex. Amsterdam is full of wonderful surprises and this restaurant is a perfect fit. If you're in the mood for a gourmet burger, phenomenal service and you want to know what it feels like to be "over the rainbow" come eat here. read more

Decent burger place in the Amsterdam museum district, so it is a very convenient location if you want to grab a bite before/after a museum visit. This place had Wizard of Oz themed murals, so it was kind of cute. There's a huge burger menu, as the name suggests, plus a handful of lovely sounding cocktails. We were short on time, so just ordered taster sliders (three small burger of different flavors) plus a side of truffle mac and cheese. The sliders were pretty good, though a bit heavy on the bread to meat/topping ratio. The truffle mac n cheese was solid, no complaints there. They also brought the cute hamburger gummies as a complimentary treat when we paid the bill. Service was good, though a bit hard to track down a server despite them not being that busy at the time. They have plenty of seating, plus an indoor patio area in the back. All in all, solid burger place, but mainly for the convenience of location. read more

Wow!!!! Loved this spot. Right across from the Van Gogh museum. We have been to a few places around Europe and were craving a simple burger. Looked to Yelp & found the Burger Room. Amazing burgers. I got a simple cheeseburger and added toppings to customize. They had a simple, yet good beer selection. The cocktails looked amazing. I also got the truffle Mac and cheese which was out of this world good. We had 3 burgers, 2 sides and 4 beers and our bill was around €80. Not bad. Our server was attentive and very friendly. I did make a reservation which means we were given a booth rather than a table, a little more comfortable. There were plenty of tables open. Definitely check this place out if you are in that area and need a burger. Soooo good! read more

The food was amazing, as was the informative and friendly staff. Atmosphere was cozy Wizard of Oz theme. Located right next to the Van Gogh museum. My only regret is that I could only go there once since we don't live in the area. read more

Let's face it I'm from the US and an American burger fanatic, so I was hesitant when a friend recommended that I try TBR in Amsterdam on my recent visit. I was greeted and by Stuart, an exquisite host and you right away it might be a good experience. It took me about two seconds to recognize something on the menu I wanted and ordered the "ScareCrow" right away. Of course, I didn't realize it was tied too a much bigger theme :-) The burger and fries were delivered and I was shocked to find out how delicious ingredients were and how I thought..is it possible to have had one of the The best burgers ever and it's in Amsterdam? Truly amazing! I had the toffee pie for dessert... It could not have been a much more pleasant experience. I later visited the restroom to find the mecca of anWizard of Oz Experience. Well done.
