They are like overly fancy, to the max pickle. I'm not saying it's a pickle, because they are not "pickled", but, but, how do I say it....fresh, crunchy, tasty, with a good "kick". The flavor is abundant. The pepper lingers on your tongue after you finish. Glory! Try it with a beer. I'm telling you. You will be satisfied with this starter. This is all I ate. I'm losing weight. Have to look good for my new lady. BTW- great ambiance. Large hole-in-wall. Dimly lit. People talking. Not loud. Good energy. Lots of different kind of whiskey. And other spirits. 4 good beers on tap. Several imported or mico-brew beers. Full bar. Wine, etc. Staff is pleasant and efficient. I had my dish 3 minutes after ordering. Like busy bees. Kitchen is wide open for viewing. I like that touch. TV at the bar. Two high chair sections, one at the bar. Lots of seating. Good temperature in the restaurant. I like this place. However, Luna does offer a lot of things for this price. You have a pleasant neighborhood restaurant vibe, with friendly attentive service and excellent, healthy food sourced from good places. As with anything in Spokane, you will see folks in very casual attire, but this is also a place where you can dress up. When we went, there were several tables of women friends (all ages), many family groups (without young kids or with well-behaved kids), and older couples. I was in the mood for salmon and they did a great version. It should be though for just under $50. It was served with black rice (good) and roasted carrots (good) and a carrot puree (really good but not enough on the plate). My dining companion got the scallops, and they were even more expensive than the salmon. $48 for TWO scallops. Ok, they are large, and well-cooked, and came with a lovely vegetable mix and couscous, but that's a lot of $ for Spokane. We are from CA and that's even a shocker for us. Dessert: they had recently added a banana pudding, which was good. It replaced a chocolate dessert--and that was a bad move because there is no intense chocolate on the menu. We also tried the coconut cake with lemon curd. There was not enough curd; it was barely a tang. The cake itself was a little dry. It is served with house-made ice cream, which balances the dryness but the cake should be good on its own. Apparently, this is their most popular dessert. I am a chocolate-first person. I like coconut. I like good vanilla. I really like lemon curd and a sweet-sour pairing. For me, this item felll short.

What's even more special is the staff remembered us from previous visits! Bravo, Luna!!

Most recently we came in for a Father's Day brunch with my dad who can be a little picky/traditionalist when it comes to breakfast. My husband and I split a mimosa carafe (which was a new menu offering) and my dad had a mango breakfast cocktail. It wasn't his favorite and the waitress was so kind to offer something else and comp the drink. My favorite dish continues to be the Benedict (both the pork belly and the salmon options have been delicious) but the menu is so eclectic and I love that it changes seasonally. Always, always get the cinnamon roll. It's HUGE and guaranteed leftovers. If you're coming for the first time, I highly recommend sitting at the bar because you can watch the chefs make the food and it's just such a fun culinary experience.

We told the server it tasted burnt & old so she offered to make a fresh pot. It was just as bad, when she asked we said it was still really yucky and she said that a lot of people don't care for it. I ordered the tamale waffle. The beef was great, eggs were a bit overcooked but no biggie, the waffle was really hard and dry. It needs some sort of crema sauce or something. It wasn't horrible by any stretch but it wasn't great either. My mom got the veggie breakfast burrito and she liked the veggies though it was bland, felt like it could have had more sour cream & cheese. It was massive and came with a side. The added 16% service fee is some real BS. It says on the receipt that it's split between the server & the kitchen staff. Call me old fashioned but I thought it was on the restaurant to pay their staff a living wage. At $18 a breakfast plate & $4 for drip coffee you should be able to pay your staff. And then we're supposed to tip on top of that? Nope.

We started with the salmon dip and dirty fries to share and the salmon dip was absolutely phenomenal. The fries were a huge portion, covered in braised pork. They were a tad salty for our palette but still yummy. I had the cod as my main, my partner had the hangar steak. Both were beautifully plated and balanced. However, last time I ate there, the waiter messed up my order, when I asked for vegan cheese instead of regular on my sandwich, he gave me a slice of vegan cheese on my plate. I had orginally said I wanted t he cheesesteak, but then I corrected myself and said, I meant the turkey melt. I ended up with the cheesesteak, but I didn't say anything because I felt bad as I had originally messed up the order. Anyway, the cheesesteak didn't come with any cheese, so when I asked him for it, he brought me a slice of cheese on the side of my plate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the cheese be in the sandwich? We also were sat outside on the patio, which was fine, but chilly. When I asked if they could turn on the fireplace, they said it doesn't work. Why do you have a fireplace outside if it doesn't work? Anyway, our service was lackluster. The food was still pretty good, but my French fries were awful.

When we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and the guy at the bar was genuinely friendly and helpful, which always makes a difference. The food prep was impressively fast, and everything was packaged neatly and thoughtfully for takeout. We started with the pretzel, which was solid, but the real standout was the mustard--super unique with a tangy, spicy, almost wasabi-like kick that made it memorable. For mains, the curry dish hit a great balance--flavorful without being overpowering or too mild. And the biggest endorsement came from my daughter, who ordered the kids pasta with marinara and added chicken--she declared it the "best spaghetti she's ever had!" (Shh... don't tell mom.) Overall, great service, tasty food, and a welcoming vibe.
