Pulled pork
Mark Y.

Upscale in the middle of nowhere. A little pricey, but where else are you going to get a mocha latte or fish tacos in the desert? Their pulled pork sandwich is darn good. The spicy pickles and the pickled slaw dressing are homemade and delicious. Service is very friendly, the place is nice and clean, and they offer a selection of deli sandwiches, meats, and local brews from their cooler. In fact, after a visit to the local grocery I returned for a sandwich and refreshment to take back to my campsite for supper. I didn't like what the grocery had to offer, but loved what The Buck Stop had.

Wow what an incredible trendy pit stop on the 166. Wish we could have stayed longer. The coffee shop was so cute with tons of outdoor space. They had local goods for sale like honey, eggs, granola, olive oil, and wine. They had a full kitchen menu and pastries. We just got a mocha to go and it was delicious, not too sweet and you could still taste the flavor of the coffee. I also bought a cute wildflower shirt I couldn't resist. We will be stopping for lunch next time. And we'd love to check out the hotel it's connected to, completely remodeled and updated. A true gem in the valley.

Cold brew, matcha latte with oat milk, cute stickers

Super cute restaurant and cafe. The staff was all very nice. The vibes inside were cute, they had a lot of cute stickers and other stuff for sale. Their matcha latte with oat milk was good. Their flat white was one of the best I've ever had. We sat outside of the hotel in a cute area next door next to the fire pit. We didn't eat any food but we saw the menu had vegan options which is always a plus. Over all it was a super cute stop during our trip to see the superbloom.

Plenty of seating when indoor dining resumes.

The Buck Stop was a saving grace during our stay at the Cuyama Buckhorn. We didn't know what to expect from the food or the coffee but wowee! We were more than pleasantly surprised. Lattes and coffee were strongly made and not acidic at all. The scones (chocolate chip and cinnamon) were the best I've ever had. Everything that we sampled was delicious. We came at the right time as the special for the weekend was this heavenly slow cooked pork that could be made into tacos or sandwiches. The Buck Stop really made the culinary part of our vacation a success, not only with the food but with the staff they have. We just left and are already taking about planning our visit next year. Great job everyone!

What nice and quaint outta the way place to stay. Keith, Asia, and the rest of the wonderful staff made me and my family welcomed and from what I gather with all the construction going on, there will be so much more to look forward to and yes, my family and I will be back, guaranteed. The food is excellent and the hiking trails surrounding the area were breathtaking. I do have one tip though. Be sure to bring bug spray though, I've seen lots everywhere but don't let that scare you. It's nothing you can't handle and the nighttime s'mores were fun for both kids and adults.

Holy wow! The breakfast food and the coffee here are top notch, and the unexpectedness of it blew my mind. As someone else said: "upscale in the middle of nowhere." I'd started out camping in the Los Padres and on the first morning realized I'd forgotten coffee! A coffee-free camping trip isn't what I had in mind, so I trekked here, the closest place for coffee and kept my fingers crossed. While waiting for coffee I glanced at the menu, which tempted me enough to stay and have fancy breakfast even though I'm *supposed* to be camping. I was blown away by the food, and I'm a proper foodie. Bacon: house-smoked, and cooked delicately crispy. Delish! Chorizo also house- made and full of flavorful.! Eggs and potatoes perfectly cooked. Toasted rustic bread with house made marmalade. I don't usually like marmalade but this marmalade was bonkers! And last but not least: super friendly service. Kudos to the whole team!

The pastries were buttery without being overly sweet, which made them even better. Staff were friendly. If you visit Solvang, one of the "must-stop" spots is definitely Olsen's Danish Village Bakery. Thoughts: I must admit that I'm not a bread person. The only reason I went here is that I had to take some tourists around. Solvang was a pretty obvious stop to make, and we found ourselves in Olsen's. I'm a believer of nailing the simple things, because you won't be able to hide it in fluff. What I liked about Olsen's bread is that they taste home made. The flavors taste exactly like what you asked for, and they don't have those added chemicals that certain establishments use to make the flavors "pop out". The bread was flaky, chewy, and an overall joy to consume. Ambiance: The tables and chairs had a cafe vibe (which is what the place is). It's clean, the bakery smelled great, and the high foot traffic means that the turnaround keeps the food fresh. Service: Straightforward. Pick your bread, ask your questions, and the staff will ring you up after getting what you asked for.

I found this place on social media and knew I had to try it, especially the "egg in a jar" with purple potatoes and toast soldiers (I can never resist a purple potato or a fun name). The space is small and charming with plenty of outdoor parking. They have a lovely outdoor dining area with lots of seating. You order inside at the counter, get a number, and they bring everything out to you. The menu is full of delicious, bready dishes, and I loved that they offer a wide selection of coffee drinks -- even matcha. You can find macchiatos, cortados, and more here. We ordered the egg in a jar with toast soldiers, a baguette sandwich, a matcha latte, a cappuccino, and of course a chocolate croissant to go as a sweet treat for the road. If I could afford the calories of eating bread every day, I'd be here daily. Every bread item we tried was incredible. The croissant was buttery and flaky, exactly as it should be. The baguette sandwich had the perfect balance of crunch and softness. And the toast soldiers were the ideal size and texture for scooping up the cheesy, creamy, eggy goodness in the jar. We visited on a Monday and it wasn't too busy. Staff was very friendly. If I lived closer, I'd be grabbing fresh bread from here all the time. A must‑stop for any bread lover exploring the area.

The potatoes were rich and comforting, topped with a perfectly poached egg and crispy bacon that blended together in every bite. It was indulgent without feeling too heavy, just incredibly satisfying. The grilled bread served on the side deserves special mention because it was honestly some of the best bread I've had. It was grilled beautifully with great flavor and texture, and it was perfect for scooping up every last bite. I also had to try some of the baked goods before leaving, and they were just as impressive as the savory food. You can really taste the care and quality in everything they make. The service was efficient and straightforward. It wasn't overly warm or chatty, but it also wasn't unfriendly. They seemed focused on getting orders out quickly and keeping things moving. The ambiance really made the experience even better. We sat on the covered outdoor patio, which was comfortable and inviting. There is also plenty of uncovered outdoor seating, while the indoor space is limited to one large communal table. The patio is definitely the way to go. This place has high reviews for a reason. The food is truly amazing, thoughtful, flavorful, and absolutely worth the visit. I will definitely be back

Though the shop was cute, clean, and had a lovely covered patio outside, I wouldn't recommend it for those stopping by for coffee on road trips. I got a seasonal spring drink called the Irish Cream Mocha and asked for it iced. Unfortunately, it just tasted like chocolate milk. Now, I like a good chocolate milk, but not when I paid for a specialty flavored mocha! I didn't detect an Irish cream flavor or even a hint of mocha. As a latte, it was way too milky and lacked the depth of an espresso drink. Contrary to its description on the menu, it wasn't balanced at all. How misleading. My friend tried one of the craft energy drinks, and it looked pretty, but she said that it was flat and tasted kinda meh. She also got a visually-appealing soda, which apparently tasted much better compared to the energy drink. Another friend ordered the seasonal Dulce de Leche Latte, and she mentioned that it was a bit too light-tasting as a latte. That checks out since my mocha also seemed like it was missing the coffee component haha. Her latte did taste like a caramelly drink made with actual dulce de leche, but she didn't appreciate that the "light" dusting of cinnamon was more like a heaping teaspoon of it thrown into the drink. We noticed that our receipts showed a higher price than what was printed on the menus. We only found out after paying and reviewing the receipts that they charge $0.75 for making drinks iced. We weren't informed of this charge by any of the ladies at the registers upon ordering, and we didn't see any signs stating that iced drinks would incur an additional charge. No explanation anywhere. Another thing that threw me off was when a certain barista handed off the completed drinks in the pickup area. She wasn't wearing gloves, and I don't think she washed her hands in-between tasks, but she was placing the drinks onto the counter while holding them by the top part, aka the lid from where people drink! I was shocked at how unbothered she was while doing that, as if that's how she was trained, or she was never corrected.

Take a look at my photos first--the cake and the bill just didn't match. I ordered three items (two…read morecakes and a coffee), but the receipt only listed two, and they weren't even the items I had. I checked the menu and realized the bill was actually for less than I should have paid; it was likely mixed up with the customer sitting next to me, who I remember had ordered a Napoleon. Looking at the prices later, I found the menu quite strange: the Chocolate Eclair is $11.95, while the Napoleon is a dollar less. Anyone who has ever made both will admit that an eclair is much easier to prepare than a Napoleon--in fact, an eclair might be the easiest item in a bakery. It's an interesting pricing choice. This bakery must be very famous; even the AI I used to plan my trip from Pasadena to San Jose recommended it. Since it isn't peak season, I easily found a parking spot on the main street, which was a relief compared to ten years ago when I had to drive in circles to find one. Even in the off-season, there was still a line--not too long, but a line nonetheless. The pastries in the case were all beautifully made and looked delicious. It was difficult to decide, but I eventually chose a Chocolate Eclair and a Danish Waffle. I went with the eclair because it was one of the few Western-style cakes available in my hometown of Shanghai when I was growing up. I've loved them since childhood. Back then, the only other Western desserts we could find were Palmiers, Chestnut Cream Cakes, and cups of whipped cream that you would just eat directly. The eclair tasted excellent, with a texture that was a perfect mix of soft and crispy. The cream was a little oily but still acceptable, and while the whole thing was quite sweet--a bit beyond average--I could still enjoy it. The Danish Waffle looked a bit like a fried Chinese donut, or Youtiao, stuffed with whipped cream, but the outside was actually a light, crispy puff pastry. It was much better than I imagined--crispy without being hard and perfectly baked. The filling was the same cream used in the eclair, combined with raspberry jam. I later realized the Danish Waffle was only $6.25, nearly half the price of the eclair despite being just as good. It's strange that the Chocolate Eclair is the most expensive item in the bakery; it's good, but compared to the Danish Waffle, the price is a bit high. I saw some people complaining that the bakery doesn't have a restroom. When I asked, the staff politely directed me to the nearby park. I accepted the answer, though I can't imagine how they handle the crowds during the busy season. Regardless, this is a five-star experience, no doubt--just be sure to check your bill when you pay. I don't want to pay more than I owe, but I don't want to pay less, either.
