This establishment has recently gone through a recent remodel. They did a very nice job taking it from the somewhat dingy smoke hole that it was to a new modern and clean tavern/restaurant. We had some wings that were very good as well as beer & soda. Prices there were average and the wings were very good. The only thing is that I wished they didn't charge for soda refills. I guess they've got to make a buck somehow. We also played pool on one of the two tables. Pricing for a game is a very reasonable .50 cents. We played quite a few games. Overall I would return to the Brown Derby now that it has been cleaned up. read more

I'm a fan of The Brown Derby Tavern. I came in this past weekend after a show at The Blue Door Theatre (which happens to be across the street). The tavern looked warm and inviting, but I didn't really know what to expect. I just had a few drinks so I can't speak to the food, but I was very happy with my experience. Again, it was just a really clean, warm, inviting bar. The bartender came out to our table and waited on us and the prices were right! The Well Gin & Tonic was less than $5. I think that is pretty good for a bar on a Friday night. The bartender also checked on us plenty and made sure we had the water my friends requested, etc. I'll totally be back. read more

My wife and I stopped in for lunch on Saturday. We ordered two draft beverages and an order of stake bites and fries. The very tasty beverages came right out; after thirty minutes of waiting we asked about the food, which they forgot to start. Apparently, we were supposed to have paid at the bar before anything was started but nobody said anything about this. The food was overcooked. We will not be back. read more

This is a solid little dive bar in the Garland District. We chose it because it looks so quaint on the outside, and it sorta matches that on the inside. Think log cabin-meets dive bar. They have a decent beer selection, but prices are average at best. ($5.50 for a Sam Adams, for example.) The bartender was friendly and fast, and he offered a good sized taster of a beer my husband was on the fence about. They serve food, but we only had drinks. The only real detraction was that the whole place smelled of fried fish, but I suppose some people may dig that. read more

We don't drink beer (never really been fond of it) so we stopped in for a drink but ended up staying and drinking beers, playing pool, BS with the customers and the bartender. If you rate a bar on its vibe then this place is one of the most laid buck but fun places to be in. Everybody is there just to mingle and have a good time - who knows a place like this might make a beer drinker out of me yet. read more

They now have FOOD! (And everything we have tried is good!!) we did really like the "old" Brown Derby super dive bar, it was always good for a cheap drink! The drinks are still not too pricey and the clientele has definitely gotten younger with the cleaner, hipper interior. They also have a nice internet jukebox which can be fun, or a nightmare if you are surrounded by Nickelback fans!! We will definitely be heading back to the derby again soon. read more

I'm so glad this bar is still available to serve cocktails after covid. They serve my favorite drinks so that's such a great treat. The bartender is so cute and so friendly it makes it such a fun spot. 10/10 would come again. read more

I've only gone during the afternoon so it's always quiet with a few regulars in there. They have a small pizzeria menu and the personal size pepperoni pizza is always a perfect amount of food for me. My boyfriend either gets a calzone or a pizza sandwich type dish. The service is always great and the drinks are just what you'd expect. I usually get a Moscow mule here and they nail it. The decor is all wood and rustic with that historic charm you'd expect from the Garland district. I've drove past here at night and it looks like the place gets packed and jumpin'! read more

Great place to have a beer. They don't serve anything besides beer and wine as they are a tavern, but I like that because it keeps away the heavy drinkers. All you need is a couple beers and to put on some great tunes on the juke box. Roger is probably the coolest bar tender ever. Funny, cool to talk with and knows almost everything. I can see why this is always at the top of the best local dive bars lists. read more

Good time spent here.. until I cashed out. I spent $30 dollars here and then some how they had my card the next day and there was an $80 charge for drinks I never order or drank myself. When I called to see if my card was there the guy working was very rude and demanded I pay the $80. When I asked to speak with someone who could help he said there's no one else here.. then he calls me back after I retrieved my card saying the manager called in saying he fixed the mistake the night of and the money was refunded. IT WAS THE MANAGER WHO OVER CHARGED ME! his name is Casey.. how unprofessional to run a business! When the transaction went through it was at 1am.. they closed at 11pm and I cashed out before then. My friend recently told me she used to love this place until they did the same thing to her! STEALING MONEY FROM PEOPLE IN A PANDEMIC.. We came in last week sun night. I thought it was tiny and cute bartender never greeted us even though we were the only new people coming in rest had been seated with drinks I went to him ordered my drinks he was not nice seemed put out. Witnessed him take a shot with some friends. Then after buying music and pool. People were coming in off the street witnessed 3 groups of 3-4 people leave because he never even looked at them AT ALL during one point he ignored a group of people (awkward to watch) (we saw them at drinkery and they had been served poor people) and took his third shot which at this point was a gummy bear when I asked him for a fruity drink he said he didn't know any. Tried to come back wed night I told my husband there was a new guy we had to try again and give benefit. BUT we walked in stood by bar BY HIM!! NO HELLO NO EYE CONTACT!! again!! SOOO WEIRD.
