Game library

Seriously a great deal for a great time. At $10 per person for up to 4 hours of play, Brooklyn Strategist is hard to beat. Cant even get a movie ticket for that price. Unlike other venues which may appear to have a comparable concept, the Strategist is a true game library lounge. Here you wont find the greasy cards and incomplete game sets at other establishments that are more about booze and food. Instead the BkS has well lit tables and a vast selection of great board games, and the best part--super knowledgeable staff who will help you select the right games for your evening according to your desired intensity, duration, experience... Ashley was very great in informing our decisions and giving us a sense of new games before we plunged into the sometimes time consuming task of reading the instruction manuals. We played Ur, Ascension, and Qwirkle tonight. They also allow you to BYOB and have a binder full of local restaurants that will deliver food. The snacks and coffee and tea they have in house are decent in price and taste. We had a lime coconut cookie and a choco chip one, both baked in house. If you love strategy games this is a great place to try a new one before buying it; and if you do decide to purchase it the store offers very competitive prices. Will return here with more friends after my awesome date with my board game enthusiast boyfriend. They do their thing well and dont try to do too much.

My board game enthusiast friends have raved about The Brooklyn Strategist, and I'm glad I finally had a chance to stop in. They have a ton of gaming space, some food, beers, and some of the most helpful people ever. Great selection of games available. They charge about $10+ more per game compared to Amazon, but hey, you get some sweet tote bags and you're supporting local business.

A great hangout for gaming with a special emphasis on family gaming, lots of parents and kids were there when I arrived (everyone behaved... :) ). Cool industrial decor. I ordered up an Arlin Cord Panini... ham, bacon, cheese and a spicy chipotle mayo. Only $7 and easily big enough for 2 to share (speaking as a 6' 250lb guy)! Also a frothy, smooth latte... delicious! A little Gigamic Quarto for a fun game to cap it off. Wonderful and enthusiastic staff. Great place!

A surprisingly fun place for people of all ages, if you don't mind the occasionally serious MTG tournaments going on here. The volume of board games here for a good rate lends favorably to my 5.0/5.0 rating for this shop. Friday is unquestionably one of the nights you don't want to be caught at home doing nothing. Call up a few friends and head here if you don't have plans and bars are no longer your thing any longer. Their BYOB and BYO food policy fits well for this purpose as there are ample number of wine/liquor and beer establishments to help you stock up for this misadventure. Their wide array of board and card games will keep you occupied for hours, and that's a good thing. For $10/pp for four hours, this is a pretty good deal. Mind you, Friday night is Magic night, so beware the serious looking tables. Be courteous, and don't mess with them. The light snack/juice/coffee counter is sufficient and does the trick to keep you going. Oh, you order there and pay at the front counter. The staff is affable and helpful. Will definitely be back. Thank you for having us! 5.0/5.0

Knowledgeable workers. Great selections. Nice snack/food bar. Comparable game prices. One of my husband and my new favorite stops.

The instructors in the class are kind and fun, the instructions for parents were super clear, the check in and check out processes are smooth and easy. The other kids coming in seem to be happy as well. I can make reservations for camp days online and They also have early drop off and extended pick ups available The projects they have done every day last week are interesting and engaging for the kids. My 5 year old comes home and demonstrates them every day. It has been fun watching him be so happy and engaged there. Apparently he even made a friend or two. And, most important thing is - everyone I have interacted with at NORY has been so kind - yes, each and everyone! I wish they'd also expand to do afterschool programs in the UWS, because I would want to sign up my kid for that... But meanwhile, we hope to be back in the next break season for camp again! Thank you NORY team.

Nory's STEM-focused curriculum keeps the kiddos engaged while also teaching them teamwork, problem solving, creativity, and many other fine and gross motor skills that are appropriate for their age group. I was very impressed with the woodworking projects my son would bring home nearly every week for 7 weeks; the woodworking projects gave him hands on learning opportunities at such a young age. Also, the staff during my son's time at camp, really cared about my son and other kids in the program. The site director at my son's UWS site - Mariam - is such a phenomenal (calm, supportive) and incredible leader. Mariam and her staff did such a wonderful job supporting my son's social development - esp. his curiosity and high energy - during the summer period. Additionally, Nory's Co-CEO (Peter Seo) was always available to listen and take feedback from parents - and in one instance, he incorporated changes right away! This spoke volumes to how much care he and the Nory team put into ensuring that positive experiences are what a child's time at camp should be centered on! My partner and I are already planning to register our son for future programs (holiday camps during the 2025-2026 school year and hoping for another summer one in 2026); I highly recommend NORY to any family looking for a learning and care focused camp program for their little ones.

Despite this, the office staff would often ridicule the counselors behind our backs and at times to our faces for displaying any tiredness, or wanting to leave/take our lunch break at the time that was agreed upon instead of staying extra and helping more. Higher ups often gossiped among themselves said really harsh and untrue things about counselors they didn't like, or essentially anyone who asked for anything from them. Me and a fellow female counselor were sexually harassed by two male counselors, one of which was older (like in his 40s) and had a leadership position. We reported one of the incidents and our supervisor said that they would not talk to the counselor because an anonymous counselor told them that I initiated the sexual conversation. I am pretty sure (though not completely sure) that the only people who heard the conversation were me, the two harassers, and the children at the front of the bus. That makes me think that the anonymous counselor was either one of the harassers, or they were made up. The other female counselor involved told her supervisor that she didn't want to get into the pool with or be in a bathing suit around her harasser. One day after she said that her supervisor made her get in the pool with him. There were numerous incidents of a counselors doing sexual harassment or making homophobic/antisemitic comments in front of (or in some cases to) the kids. It is true that a friend of mine reported the homophobic/problematic comments and the staff did talk to the counselor about it. Even after that conversation though, a lot of the comments were still being made. (For example, a counselor would put items on camper's heads and say, this is your yarmulke. Another example was the counselor was telling a story to some kids and saying "a boy liked me and it was gross." And he asked campers their pronouns and laughed at the prospect of their pronouns not matching their gender assigned at birth). Due to the work environment I messaged the director that I wanted to quit and she did not respond. When I got into work she looked at me angrily and would not address my quitting. I later learned that she was saying very unkind things about me to other staff members. She called me into her office and told me that she did not like that I complained about the pay, which I did complain about, but not to her. Another higher up heard me complaining and told her about it, but I think I have a right to complain. I also heard incidents from other counselors of the higher-ups intimidating people into not quitting, which is not okay. Overall the camp is fun for children but was really harmful for me and other staff who worked there.
