Went to Arthur Avenue with a friend on a Sunday and decided to put together our own little "food crawl." Our first stop was Cosenza's Fish Market, and afterward we headed over to Bronx Beer Hall, which sits inside the Arthur Avenue Retail Market. The beer hall has a small bar with about six seats, a few tables, as well as some high-tops tables. I ordered the mulled wine, which hit perfectly after being outside in the chilly weather. The place was lively, lots of people walking around, grabbing food, eating pizza, and browsing vendors, so it made for a fun and easy stop along the crawl. The Bronx Beer "Hall" is a bit of a stretch. This is more like a small counter bar in the middle of the market. I have a few buddies with me and we came to Arthur Ave to eat before the Yankee game. Yelp has the restaurant opening at 4:30 so I decided to drink a cold one before the game. There are lots of good beer choices on tap: Attention Span Pale Ale, Blueberry Cider, Amity Beer Premium Lager, Break Of Jawn Witbier, Pineapple Sco Bo Seltzer, Doggo Double IPA. I was going to order the lager but they were out so I looked at the can list. Lots of great craft beer choices, I usually drink Ommegang - Cooperstown, NY or Allagash Brewing Company - Portland, ME. I'm going to try something new so I chose Bronx Little Italy Italian Pilsner 4.2 ABV. $51 bucks for a 6 pack?? Is there gold flakes in the can?? What the hell! Rolled in on a summer Thursday afternoon before an evening game at the Stadium, and so glad I did. Doug was my bartender and did a fabulous job - personable, friendly, quick with a recommendation, funny. I started with an offering from their draft menu, which was good stuff, and upgraded on my second brew to a special collab they had brewed with Gun Hill in cans - wow! Delicious. The Bronx Beer Hall is tucked inside the Arthur Ave Market. It only had IPAs on tap when we came which my bf loved but wasn't quite my speed. I opted for their canned earl grey cider instead. Despite my skepticism about tea in apple cider, it somehow worked really well. The earl grey flavor was just strong enough. We also got their antipasto platter. It took a while to come but it was well plated and had a lot of delicious goodies on it. Their bread was so well toasted: perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. This little place is a hidden gem. They are located in the back of a market off of Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. But they serve really great beer, which they specialize in. They have beers from all over, wide range and local. Arthur Avenue is one of my very favorite spots in all of New York City, and it's a shame more people don't go there. It has a very genuine feel. I'm a lover of strong beers, and this place doesn't seem to step it up. Their only IPA had 4.9% alcohol, and tasted really flat. The only other options were too light of fruity to my taste, and were the closest thing to water I've ever tasted. You'd expect these options to come cheap, right? Nope. Take a seat at a bar stool and drink some cold local NY brews served up in mason jars. ABC Beer Co, Ommegang, Bronx Brewery, Gun Hill and others. right in the Arthur Avenue Market, it is a miniature version of Philly's Reading Terminal. Entirely local. Friendly service, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the local craft beers offered. Incredibly flexible about food- you can bring in food from outside or they will arrange your order from nearby Mike's market which has great sandwiches, antipasto, cured meats, and other Italian delicacies. Has seating at the bar and benches. I've also watched afternoon baseball games and World Cup matches there. They have plenty of TV's and are very nice about putting on a channel for you. read more

Beer was okay, food was good too, but what wasn't amazing was the fact no one told us the price of the beer until we got the check. Went in a group and had 10 beers which came out to $130 for just the beer. The waitress told us it's $13 a glass because it's a limited beer, and the bottle is $27, but as a first time customer, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT! I don't know how they run their business and was disgusted that NO ONE told us the price. Overpriced for what they gave us. I have one main issue with the Bronx Beer Hall. The website lists their beers for the month, that's good and great but when you actually go here, you are quickly told those are the beers offered during the month but they are not always available. What? Then update your website to reflect that! I came in wanting to try the egg cream stout and was told it was sold out and they wouldn't be re-stocking it. Then they offered to let me try a regular cream stout, which I ended up disliking. The bar area itself is cute and cozy and right smack in the middle of the market. Plenty of tourists and locals surround you as you watch TV and drink your beer. I ended up going with a Gun Hill beer since I love them and I enjoyed it. I thought I was done drinking after a few of these but the bartender told me they had "over poured" one of these and it was sitting in the fridge waiting to be sold. I took it because why not? Oh and they also ran out of this particular beer 1 hour into me being there. For food they offer tons of bar bites, pizza, and paninis. The pizza we had was good. The fried pickles went well with the beer. They said the pickles would take longer but they ended up coming out way before the pizza. This was a good place to kill some time on a day off from work, however, I would not go out of my way to come here. There are way better drinking options in the Bronx that 1) list their beers correctly and 2) don't magically run out not even halfway into the day. Oh and avoid the bathrooms at all cost. These are obviously shared with the rest of the market and are disgusting. One of the sinks was missing faucets and the entire floor in the ladies room was flooded. I was in the area with some friends one Saturday, for the NY Pizza Festival and we stopped in here afterwards for a few drinks.My friends I was with are Fordham alum, so we ere int heir old stomping ground and they liked it here. If it wasn't for them I would have never know this place existed. It is a beer hall inside a market. Literally int he middle of fruits and veggie stands and meat cases is a bar! It was very cool, very Bronx lol. Our server was great and accommodating. All for of us did flights, with the different seasonal beer on tap. This review is about a year overdue and what's prompted me to write is that I thought about going back again today with a friend, who immediately reacted in disgust! She remembered our horrible service in early 2018 and the warm OVERPRICED beer we drank. Combing through their most recent Yelp reviews reveals that they probably haven't changed much since. I'm super torn, I'm a Bronx local and this bar is in a prime location at the Arthur Avenue Market. They even hold a Geeks Who Drink event on Wednesdays at 8pm. So then, why are they purposely not fixing their very easily fixed problems!? 1. Expand your beer selection by getting stuff from local breweries. 2. Advertise said selection properly and don't scam people with the prices. EVERYONE loves a decent Happy Hour. 3. Partner up with the businesses in the Hall and serve apps/food from Arthur Ave. 4. Hire staff that are enthusiastic to work and serve. No sticky tables! 5. Have more local events and advertise them. Do they even have a website? It's like they don't care and this place has been open long enough to find people who care. People are starting to notice however, I urge you to try Clinton Hall, which opened up 4 blocks from there and Kirvens up by Lydig. Plus however many other places around the area that are worth a try before this one. read more

The Bronx Beer Hall is a godsend for us Bronx locals! The owners, Anthony and Paul have a strong allegiance to the Bronx which you can see (and taste) in their locally brewed beers and apparel line. I had the apricot beer which was a surprisingly tasty beer. Normally served with fruit in the mug. They also serve food until 6pm, which I had the opportunity to taste during the grand opening. This place is beyond awesome and I wish there were more like it. I've been a few times for different occasions. I've gone on dates, with family and friends and for brunch. My favorite time ever was when my friends and I showed up on a whim and discovered karaoke night! The bartender was so sweet and personable, they took song requests too. It was that kind of night where no one at the beer hall knew each other but we all got close and sang together and turned it into a party! One of the owners came up to me and introduced himself and proceeded to sing some songs with us. The drinks are great, the music, vibe and people are great. I went for brunch once too and it was absolutely banging. Definitely a Bronx favorite for me but most importantly... it makes the Bronx a better place and you shouldn't have to limit that value to 5 stars! read more

I really like this place. I've tried different beers all have been pretty good. The service is always friendly and welcoming. I will definitely keep going here and trying all their different beers and delicious food. They have happy hour Mon-Thurs is buy one get one. On Fridays they have a different deal with larger beers ( still a really good deal) The Buffalo Chicken Pizza is my favorite thing to eat. Go for Happy Hour and try it out :) read more

How does this sort of place even open in its location? It is plopped right in the middle of an old Italian marketplace (containing the amazing Mike's Deli), where the border between Bronx Beer Hall and the rest of the place is hard to distinguish. The beers are over-priced, but it's really the only adult-leaning bar I'm aware of in the area that isn't also a busy restaurant. When we went in, they still had almost entirely ciders from an event the night before, which limited our options considerably (I like ciders, but wasn't in the mood for one). The server at our table did not remember much about each drink, and there are no physical menus, which all 'beer bars' should have. read more

Place just opened last night. It's inside the Arthur Ave marketplace. I enjoyed myself. The beer was good. The food looked great (from Mike's Deli). The atmosphere was very lively. With that said, it's not a traditional bar setting. The marketplace is rather bright and when seated you're surrounded by other businesses that are closed for the night. Also, the bar closes at 11pm which is unusual when you're use to ending the night at 4am. I'd certainly go back but it's a different vibe than other traditional bars. Since its directly on Arthur Ave, at least you can visit other shops/restaurants before or after. I went to the Cigar shop a few stores down afterwards. This place is a favorite for drinks with friends in the Belmont area. Always have a great array of five NY beers to try and the prices aren't bad for the area. If you go during their happy hours, the prices are even better. It's also a pretty cool location, being that it is in the center of the Arthur Ave Italian Market. You can find people here at all hours of the day watching sports, taking a load off after shopping around, or enjoying the activities they offer at night (karaoke, trivia, and live music nights to name a few). The only cons to the place are the service and their new happy hour token system. The staff is friendly, but not very knowledgeable or attentive. I can't even count the amount of times they've brought the wrong beer or forgot to bring me something I asked for. For the happy hours, they've instituted a free drink token. I always manage to leave with a drink token and every time i try and use it, i am turned down. The staff says it's only good for a free drink during happy hour, but I'm honestly not even sure if they know how the system works. It would be better if they went back to the half-priced drink options... Overall, a great joint for burgers, beers, and bustling atmosphere with friends. Just don't expect stellar service or to understand why you'll begin to accumulate a small collection of useless wooden drink tokens. read more

** 3.5 stars ** At the center of the historic and very much functional Arthur Avenue Retail Market is the Bronx Beer Hall.  Situated at the center of the market in an open format appropriate for the setting, its impossible to miss on the way to the vendors within.  The bar faces the back of the market, and one can take a seat at one of near dozen bar seats.  Groups can gather at one of multiple communal wood tables.  Large screen TVs are viewable from nearly any seat.  Service is friendly but often inexperienced and absent-minded. They offer the usual bar beverage staples (mixed drinks, wines, sodas).  But its their craft beers that gets the spotlight. A handful of rotating craft beers on tap, focused on local and regional breweries such as Bronx-based Gun Hill, Queens-based SingleCut, and New York-based Captain Lawrence and Badass Hard Cider; a diverse style range is always featured, and a flight can be had.  A small selection of cans and bottles, likewise craft brews with the same local bent. Up until recently, the food menu was incoherent.  Turkey chili or sliders or burger?  Korean pork salad?  Truffle burger? Hot and sour soup?  Reflexively, I picked from the sausage selection and the mostly Italian appetizers, which were fine. Thankfully, that menu appears to have been retired in favor of food prepared by Arthur Avenue Deli aka Mike's Deli (identified as Greco's on the new menu, the family name for the founders/owners of the deli), a renowned Italian food vendor in the same market. The menu now features an extensive catalog of Italian sandwiches, along with some pastas, salads, antipasti, pizza breads, and calzones.  As expected, these are made with the same good quality ingredients in abundance at the market.  A pub on Arthur Avenue really need look no further than Italian classics for perfect bar food. The Bronx Beer Hall is (thus far) the only craft beer bar in the area, so its a winning option even with limited selection, and now with food that's a better fit for its venue. Come enjoy a beer even as the market closes down and the lights go out around the beer hall, an interesting warehouse ambience. read more

Although they've got some kinks to work out - food took a while to be prepared and then showed one plate at a time rather than all at once, this is a treasure of a place. Nestled amidst a shopping bazaar in the hear of Arthur Ave, you can feel the buzz in the air when your arrive. And plenty of brand new flat screen TVs to stay on top of the local sporting interests. Beers from all over we're served in large and small chilled original 'Ball' mason jars. The owner and staff are very cordial and looking to please every chance they get for this eighty day old business venture. I had the 'sausage fest' served with delicious mustard and fried peppers and onions. One guest had delicious looking pork sliders that must have been good as she downed them in a flash. (The server dropped her first order of sliders on my arm carrying way too much food). A couple of people had great looking sweet potato fries with their traditional fare. They topped off our lunch with a gratis Nutella and strawberry pizza dessert to acknowledge that today was my daughters 21st birthday. Oh yeah, she went for a hair of the dog hard cider with her lunch, We will definitely be back again before we are done paying that Fordham tuition. I don't know what word better describes this place- "interesting" or "weird". Stopped by here with a friend after taking a stroll down Little Italy. The first thing I noticed was that this place had a weird smell and there was some kind of meat being sold towards the back. And then I turn around and see some kind of souvenir(?) store, I guess. I don't know, honestly. There was just too much going on here for my taste. This place is pretty big, don't get me wrong- it's just sectioned awkwardly. So my friend and I go sit at the bar for some drinks- they only sell beer and wine here. But they don't have the basic beers like Corona, Bud Light, etc. They had that IPA ish I don't like, lol. We asked for a sample of an IPA and I did not enjoy it. And to add to that, the bartender was just WEIRD! Lmao. She was just off. Note: they're in the middle of the market so don't go looking for them on the street. If you're going to charge over $9 for average NY craft beer, maybe list the the damn prices, or tell people there's a $3+ discrepancy between beers when they ask for a beer list and you only point them to your computer screen. The cans were better and cheaper than drafts. Again, when I asked about what they had, they only pointed me toward the 5 drafts listed on a screen. The 6th had kicked, and 1 was a cider, so really only 4 beers. I later noticed some cans on a shelf and asked about them, then was magically told about the (slightly) larger can & bottle selection, after I had a decidedly average $9 draft I wouldn't have gotten had I know there were other options. The service was friendly and they had a few decent cans, so 2 stars. Won't be going back here. If I want to pay those prices, l'll stay in Manhattan and at least go to an actual bar with some ambience, not a space in the middle of a market where they don't really know much about beer. I love this place because its a local "watering hole" and I enjoy the unique setting in the middle of the Arthur marketplace. I also love that they lend this space for some cool events. But damn, they need to get it together. When visiting on a busy Saturday night during an event, for instance, they usually have about three bartenders. It's become clear to me that there is no system to efficiently serve everyone. I totally understand that managing and serving a bar is no easy task because drunk and impatient customers. But, usually the bar tenders seem unorganized. I've had 2 bar tenders ask to take my drink, back to back. If there are 3 of ya, at least divide the bar into 3. Or have 2 tending, 1 charging. And its not like they're making drinks either, they're just serving beers. They've been open long enough to have at least come up with a game plan. read more

Two stars for the cheery service here on a Saturday night. It wasn't crowded and my friend and I grabbed a table to sit at. We were given two menus, one of which was the afternoon menu. What is strange is at night time, there is a lack of pub food; it was basically a menu for a pizza place that offered pizza and calzones, with a $2.00 delivery fee for each item. It would be nice for them to have their own kitchen to serve up some grub to go with your drink. I ordered the pilsner on tap and my friend had the sour ale. Total came out to around $17 for the two pints. Maybe I'm spoiled by the great beer halls in NYC, but the Bronx Beer Hall didn't cut it for me. read more
