Stopped in recently for a couple of beers while waiting for my table to open at Bronx Ale House across the street. They have outdoor seating with tents, in each one is a string of fairy lights. Welcoming regulars got up to sit together so me and my friend could snag a table. The woman bartender working on a Tuesday was fast and friendly. No drafts, just bottles and cans. Blue Moon & Bud are among the offerings. They have a small menu which includes (air-fried!) French fries. Great crowd, and surprisingly quiet for being next to the elevated subway.

The Punchbowl is a neighborhood staple. The building has been here for generations upon generations, evident by the black and white pictures hanging on the wall. We came here one night out of the blue when our regular spot canceled karaoke for the night. When we first walked in we didn't know what to expect because the place looked a little empty but we did hear the music and people were singing so we decided to give it a go. When we spotted a pool table in the back we figured it would be a decent night. The pool table runs on quarters and you have to buy two rounds of drinks if you want to use it. The bartender was very nice and the drinks were decently priced. The bathrooms are clean which is worth it's own star IMO. We played pool while we waited for our turn at the mike. Dawn was the karaoke host for the evening. She is very sweet and have us all hugs, welcoming us to the bar. The crowd is funny. They definitely have jokes but it was all in good fun. We had a good time that night. There were six of us and my husband was the only guy and it felt like some of the male patrons in the joint were a little weird. There were a few encounters that made us all look at each other like, WTH? Bit other than that, everyone made us feel welcomed and I wouldn't mind visiting again for a karaoke performance and a drink.

I don't know who these two ladies were but they had some fr nalgas.

Historic landmark status perhaps? I mean the place was 84 years old! Completely as is, unchanged, and with countless of famous names walking in through its doors! It was the oldest dam bar in the Bronx, for Pete's sake! It was here when the Polo Grounds existed across the river! When the streets were all cobblestone! When streetcars (trolley's) ran on rails right outside! When both Yankee stadiums were new! To name a few! This was the official dugout for Yankee fans, to head out to games from and right back afterwards! This was the official dive of civil service workers. You stood shoulder to shoulder with cops, detectives, bus drivers, train operators, corrections officers, postal workers, paramedics, teachers and countless other blue collars too. And yes (to hell with it) many gangsters, drug dealers, hookers, and their John's too. Everyone was off duty once you walked through that door! Yankee fans from all over the Tri-State area would stop in before/after games for a cold one or huge stiff tumbler drink. The place was that much revered. Man I just don't get it. We don't seem to give a rat's @$$ about our history anymore. Relics of yesterday, nostalgia, nothing. Greed did this epic place in, with insanely high rents not only displacing tenants from their homes but killing countless businesses too. And Glacky's sadly made the count. And I for one cant imagine what they will put there afterwards that will be able to shoulder the burden than a bar that was always packed to the walls with paying patrons from all over. My sincere thanks to Mike and his crew for the great drinks and memories, you will all be sorely missed.

Rory Dolan was very gracious and accommodating, rearranging tables to accommodate the group. We had a section in the upper dining area to ourselves. There's an extensive adult beverage menu, with of dozens of beers on tap and on ice, wines, and liquors. See photos. The food menu had the expected Irish fare; shepherds pie, salmon, corned beef, and cabbage, etc. There were some Italian inspired appetizers and mains, even Korean flavors. Everyone ordered whatever they wanted off the regular menu. Service was impeccable, the restaurant has an inviting ambience. I noticed there were a lot of "regulars" there this particular afternoon. They have a spacious bar and restaurant area, that is conveniently located on McLean Ave. It is a lively space but the decor and dark wood make it seem more like a historic location. I came here for a work event and order the chicken tender and fries. It came out very quickly, even though the bar and restaurant was packed. My food was hot and fresh. I would definitely order this again. Can't wait to stop back in.
