I stayed for a few days with friends at Broadkill Beach. What a special place, nestled along the bay off Route 16 in Milton, DE! While there, my friends and I walked along the beach, marveled at the horseshoe crabs, and enjoyed the cactus gardens and sweet honeysuckle-lined road. During our walks, we would stop by the Broadkill Store for coffee, soda, facial wipes, and to satisfy my Necco candy wafers "fix." While it's a typical combined bait/tackle and convenience store (i.e. it's got an eclectic mix of emergency household items, snacks, beach toys, Broadkill Beach branded merch, etc.), it also has a kitchen and griddle where delicious breakfast foods, sandwiches and fries are served up. They open early - perfect for the early riser and angler setting off for high tide. The staff are friendly and conversational. They were excited about the busy Memorial Day weekend they experienced and the forthcoming summer season where customers from nationwide come to Broadkill Beach. After seeing waaaaay too many cookie cutter chain places up and down the strip, this is an awesome flash back to beach life before it became all commercialized. Small, quaint, limited stock but diverse enough to meet most of your last minute needs We stopped in on a freakishly hot day. We wanted lunch but noticed there were a few donuts left (probably only because it was so freaking hot and nobody was coming in for their donut and coffee because we heard they usually sell out quickly). So, of course, we helped the cause by buying a donut . It's in the top ten donuts I've ever eaten (even if it was too hot for coffee). It was chocolate iced, if you're curious, and it was spectacular! We ended up with two sandwiches and two drinks. I had a turkey bacon club and my husband had an Italian sub. They aren't cheap (this is the beach) but they also were decent sized, made fresh, had good ingredients and were super tasty. If you aren't hungry, you might have leftovers. They have pizza, sandwiches, donuts, drinks, fishing and beach "stuff", shirts, some basic grocery goods, and an assortment of other things. Looks like they rent bikes and there are some tables outside. This would be the perfect place to stop for lunch while at the beach when you don't want to go back to your place but you need a drink and something to eat. The perfect store for a beach community. Ran in to pick up pizza (decent and I'm from NY) and wound up also getting a sweatshirt, ice cream, a cinnamon bun and a case of water. People that own and work here are just sooo nice and accommodating. The general store is not flush with items, but go-to needs for a beach town and the ice cream and cinnamon rolls are out of this world! I was in desperate need of flip flops and the owner just threw a reasonable price at me that was below what was in their register since it was the last pair in my size. Has my undying gratitude and devotion. I am dying to try the food but we brought so much of our own for our rental I haven't had the occasion to snack there. Smells great when people order. Great knickknacks and gifts (we load up on tshirts, hats and mugs every visit) with plenty of accessories for weekend fishers. The sandwiches are really good. The donuts are to die for. I like the fact that you can pick up some local Broadkill swag there that's very well presented. The cost on the merchandise is a bit high but that's what you'd expect. Unfortunately, the pizza is way below average. It seems like with just a few changes they could bring it up to par. Recently visited The Broadkill Store while I was on vacation near Lewes. It was the perfect size for a small community. They had plenty to offer for a reasonable price- toiletries, snacks, pizza, sandwiches, and ice cream. Much more efficient and nearby than heading to the local Walmart. My family friends also went to the store quite a few times during our week stay. They purchased bait. We ordered the pizza for pick-up and it was really tasty. We had to wait a few minutes for it to be remade, but that didn't matter to me- we just perused the store. It had to be remade because they weren't happy with how it turned out. I haven't visited prior to this year, but it looks like the ice cream walk-up window is a recent addition. It always had a line regardless of what time it was. There's also a donation library (give a book, take a book) right outside with lots of good options. If you're heading into Lewes and needed a pit stop OR staying in one of the vacation homes nearby, you should check out the Broadkill Store. read more

The Broadkill Store has SERIOUSLY stepped-up their game. I think the ownership changed recently. I have been coming to the store for many years and would typically take my kids for candy once or twice, but it was a bit annoying because they people working were never very nice and the food was blah. Totally different now. The workers are super-friendly, they have spruced-up the place with an ice cream shop, coffee bar and PIZZA (that is actually very good). Before I went because it was the only place around, now I go because it is really a great little place. Congratulations to the new ownership. Well done! read more

This little store has everything you may have forgotten for your day at the beach or if you are vacationing in one of the rentals for the week. Like a hotel sundry on steroids - for beach goers and fishermen! Plus Broadkill beach souvenirs so you don't have to interrupt your vacation to shop! They have great coffee in the morning, sandwiches and most importantly sticky buns on tuesdays! Have to get there early or they run out but they are worth it! They ladies who work here are super friendly and helpful and make your coffee any way you want it- very important when you have fussy drinkers like we do. Rustic, convenient, efficient and friendly. The best store in Broadkill!!! Well, the only store in Broadkill, but it's still the best! New ownership for the 2019 season gave a well deserved facelift to the building and added a walk up ice cream window as well as a pizza option on the menu. You don't go here for the groceries, which look a bit like the food stuffs that a bunch of teenagers would munch after getting stoned. You go here for the ambiance. This is the real deal...a real East Coast Mid-Atlantic, shingle-covered, wooden-floored, slightly odd, beach store that's been here for decades. You go here for the "smack" that the real wooden screen door makes when it hits the door frame and the icy cold air conditioning that blasts you when you walk inside. We walk the entire length of Bayshore Drive for their Peach Milkshakes. Perfect doughnuts on weekend mornings. Time it right so you get some warm ones. Dunkin and Krispy Kreme are totally outdone by these fantastic Broadkill Beach store doughnuts. Tuesday mornings there are freshly made cinnamon, sweet, and nut rolls that are equally devine. They also have breakfast sandwiches, deli items, grill items (hot dogs, burgers), ice cream (fresh dipped cones, malts, milkshakes, or novelty ice creams out of the freezer). Plus all the stuff you might need for a day at the beach: sunscreen, towels, beach toys, soda, snacks, fishing gear.
