It's in a great spot in town with beach access and close to the main drag for shopping or dining. Because we stayed 3 nights, we got 30% off our stay - a promotion they had this summer. That made the stay far more affordable! The room we were placed in had an ocean view and was on the top floor. Really nice. The only downside to this particular room, #431, was being right next to the door/hallway that led to the elevator landing and the Pickled Fish Restaurant. The noise level at night would be a little annoying, so we'd slip out and shut that exterior door that opened to the landing. The only problem with that is guests needed to go through that door to get to the other rooms on the 4th floor. So, the heavy door was clunking open and closed until people were all inside or the restaurant closed. Also, occasionally someone would reopen the door and prop it open...letting the noise rise again. I'd pop outside in my PJs and have to close it again. Each Night...so avoid this room if you can. I'm sure the other 4th floor ocean views were OK. The room was clean and modern. Turndown service still exists here too! It was nice to have our room freshened up! There were even bathrobes and beach towels provided. The front desk is nice and responsive if you have a request. There is no A/C in the room, but they did have a box fan if it got too warm. We cracked opened the windows to let fresh cool air inside. There is a wall heater for the colder days. Bed is comfortable...I thought it was going to be too soft but slept like a rock and wasn't sore afterward. Had a place that functions for a desk with a hard plastic desk chair. The other chairs in the room were more comfortable. We will be back I'm sure in the near future.

We…read morehave stayed at The Bowline in Astoria a handful of times - which is managed by the same parent company - and had expectations about the quality of this hotel due to our very pleasant stays there. Unfortunately this place fell short in a couple of ways. The booking experience is a bit confusing, especially if you are trying to book a room at The Inn at Discovery Coast, which is a smaller hotel owned by Adrift and located a stone's throw away from the Adrift. It is the nicer hotel of the two, as the rooms all have oceanfront views and individual, motel-style entrances to each room. During the booking process, the website does a poor job at distinguishing which property you are booking for, and instead lumps both properties into the same search (even if you specifically select one or the other). We only found out when we arrived that we had booked the Adrift and not The Inn, which was a huge disappointment. They were, of course, fully booked, so we did not have the opportunity to re-book upon arriving. The hotel itself has a much less premium feel than The Bowline, and doesn't feel as well-kept. You can tell they were going for luxury but spared many expenses on the furnishings and decor, as it feels a bit more like a cheap Airbnb. The "partial ocean view" rooms on the side of the building should be called "full parking lot view where you can see the ocean if you stand in the corner". We were also down the hallway from the hotel's bar and restaurant, which stayed loud pretty late. I would hate to have booked a room underneath it, even if it meant facing the ocean. We did find a dead bed bug in the sheets while we were there. Upon reporting to hotel's email, they thanked us but offered no consolation in return, which was disappointing. A coupon off another stay would at least have been nice. The pluses: it's conveniently located near town and the boardwalk that leads into the main part of Long Beach. We did enjoy that walk and access to town! It is likely that we won't be back, unless we are so confused during the booking process that we book it by mistake again.

The property feels like a retreat with a lovely atmosphere that feels a world apart from Long Beach despite being so close in proximity to town. We didn't have time to make full use of the pool, sauna, or pickleball courts - but these amenities would be perfect for a rainy day at the coast and when we come back we'll make more time in our schedule to use them. Check-in/check-out was a breeze and staff was very pleasant. They let me borrow a lighter for a birthday cake which was much appreciated! The walk to the beach is very scenic and beautiful in itself. Highly recommend this resort!

Prior to this visit, the rooms were fairly basic, but very adequate. Today, we arrived to find a beautifully updated room, that feels much bigger and much cleaner than they previously were. We have new appliances, new countertop and backsplash, new floors, a larger couch, a huge king bed, a walk-in shower with a new vanity, and everything is just stunning. Very well done! From the bottom units, you have a small deck with a bench, and upper units have a balcony. All rooms overlook the dunes, and the higher ones can catch you a glimpse of the ocean. You spend the evening listening to the roar of the waves. It's so relaxing. In the main office area, you'll find a recreation room, vending machines, and espresso stand with good coffee, and a huge saline pool that's in a solarium type of building. Their fitness center is small but it's something. They love dogs, and it shows. You'll get a welcome pack for your mutt, and there's a lighthouse themed dog house in the parking lot that you can take pictures of your dog with. There's two TVs - you can stream from your device in the bedroom, or watch cable in the living room. You'll have a gas fireplace, a lounge chair, a couch that folds out into a bed with a nice, squishy mattress, and a two person dining table. The staff here have been here a long time, and it's always nice to see a familiar face when we arrive. Shout out to Kevin! Always friendly and helpful. It's about a five minute drive to downtown Long Beach, where you'll find a bakery, an arcade, and lots of shops and restaurants. Don't forget you can even drive on the beach! You'll love it here.

We stayed four nights and paid $920. $160 for two dogs and a $75 cleaning fee. On the last night of our stay we came home from our family dinner with a note taped to our door (I will post in comments). it stated we had accidentally left our door open and management had thankfully closed it. Next mentioned that out trash, that was tied in a garbage bag, doesn't belong outside our door and we should use the dumpster next to the office. With the cost of the room and cleaning fees our rooms should be serviced daily. Not to mention management walked past it multiple times to leave us a note and could have taken the time to throw it out. What do you pay cleaning fees for? Next the note mentioned we brushed our dog OUTSIDE and "it looks pretty bad". I guess the dog and cleaning fee is only reserved for inside our cottage? My husband thought he was being polite to save them the dog hair in our room... Next if you are staying here don't leave any sort of dog toy in the pet friendly areas as you will also be reprimanded for that. We use to love to come here and will never be back. If you want your room serviced for $200 a night... go anywhere else.

I asked for their manager and they continued to argue with me and said I needed to go buy my own. Mind y'all I have 6 kids and 2 adults in this unit and they knew that! There is no where in their policy about being stingy with the toilet paper. The units were dirty, there was leftover coffee in the coffee pot, the supplied dishes were dirty, and food on the floor. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The customer service was the worst I have ever experienced.

The setting has a classic feel, with antique details like the steel radiator and retro windows. The room is small but clean and full of character. At $350 for two nights, it feels a bit expensive, but it offers a unique experience. There is a shared men's and women's bathroom on each floor, along with two showers. There is no A/C--just a fan in the room. We also noticed a fairly strong dog smell inside the elevator and in the bedroom, even though we like dogs. I was initially worried about noise from upstairs with a family of four (including two kids), but that hasn't been an issue. Most of the noise came from the bar across the street, where groups were loud late into the night. I used the complimentary earplugs for the first time in years of staying at hotels, and they were helpful. I could still hear the noise, and it continued until after 3:10 a.m., when the conversations outside the bar finally died down. On the bright side, the manager and staff are friendly and professional. If you're looking for a historic, classic stay, this is a distinctive option--just be aware of the shared facilities, the pet odor, and the potential for street noise.

A lot of people have written in to say they weren't pampered the way they wanted. Well, did you…read moreread the website, like, at all? TL/DR: crisp, minimalist rooms and amenities with nice, funky, particulars, combined with another outpost of the Broder empire, make this an ideally located, charming, basic place to crash, and our favorite in Astoria. In a very European fashion, the Commodore provides stripped, minimalist rooms, (with some of the best pillows I can recall in a hotel) with excellent social accommodations and a level of charm you won't find in any corporate hotel. Are the hours a little wonky? Yeah. But I had no problem navigating the late check-in, since they contact you and ask if that's what you'll need. There could be more amenities, but this used to be aimed at the digital-nomad-cum-wanderer younger crowd as a part of the defunct Selina organization. Don't know how much of the previous special stuff remains (checking out a projector and having movies in the lobby was awesome) but I will always have a soft spot for this place. Maybe that's because I've never been pampered and never expect to be. The new ownership has opened the restaurant, Broder Strand, with all of the Scandinavian treats, like the Classic 2 egg I had. Edit: So I've been clued in to the ownership saga of the Commodore. It was owned by the Selina Group when I wrote my first review, then when they went under, it was purchased by the person in charge f the Broder (galactic) empire, but has changed hands again. There are differences, and not many of them are good. There appears to be a general erosion in some of the "little things" like what is stocked in the "honor bar" or whatever it is called. Once there was a good variety, now its just granola bars and half-liter Mexican Cokes. The attentiveness to detail (like refilling the extra towel/robe shelf outside the shared shower rooms never happening) and a missing ceiling lamp globe in the shower room, make me think that the folks who currently own it are not quite hoteliers at heart. I took a star off because of that. They have fixed the wifi, so that's nice, and the access to the Broder Strand in the mornings (and Stranded bar in the evenings) makes it a better place, but that is someone else's labor. They really should do more cross-promotion to reinforce the bond because as it stands, I recommend the restaurant more than the hotel. In the interim, between Selina and now, a manager tried to compensate for all of the fallout from Selina's collapse and the broken reservations and lost trust that came with it. Rooms were all freshly painted, new linens and ceiling fans, tightening up some loose spots. A lot of that ground seems to have been lost and the reviews reflect that. That said, the bones are still strong. A quirky joint in a quirky town. We will always come back here. Until we retire here, that is!

It's a bit of a drive from Long Beach - again, not what I expected, but we're on vacation and another 15 minutes doesn't matter. When we pulled in, I thought we were at the wrong place. The address was right, but it looked like someone's home. I didn't read my email, so I didn't know how to check in. The cleaning lady was there and told me how to check in and to read my email for the code. By the way, she was super nice! We checked in and found the hotel to be very nice. The room was nice and clean. It was also nicely decorated - a huge plus! The entire hotel was nicely decorated - someone spent some time making this just right! We walked to the water - it's just behind the hotel. There's a nice little bench to sit and enjoy the area. I walked up and down the coast a little - there's some holes in the ground, so be careful if you do. Anyway, it's just gorgeous! We were near the front door and we noticed someone picking something from the bush. The gal who helped me check in was there and she told us there's blackberries on the bush. We ate some and they were tasty - don't eat the light colored or red ones - they're not ready yet! I spent some time in the lobby - very pleasant and a great place to read. I didn't grab a book, but they have a lot of them to choose from if you want. The next morning, we had breakfast in the dining room. It's stocked with continental breakfast things, which we enjoyed.
