Wow, this place is definitely a gem! Such a cool place to get to experience. When I visited on a Wednesday afternoon in December, I was amazed to walk in around 3pm and found a completely packed bar with only one table available. We snagged it and was dumbfounded by not only how many people were there but by the high energy and smiles. I was educated by my in-laws that the Brass Rail Bar is loved by many because of it's history and after being closed for a while after a death (I think) and covid, when it reopened, is packed full all days of the week. We went in specifically to try their Tom & Jerry cocktail which is evidently a Port Huron staple during the Christmas season. I can't remember the ingredients but they were delicious!!! I love that The Brass Rail is a family ran business and it is obvious how much love and passion goes into this business. I'll continue to visit this bar many years into the future, amazing place! read more

Although I did not come for the food, the drink selection has a very wide variety from beer to cocktails and beyond. The bloody marys were delicious and nicely seasoned to my liking! Had that during Euchre Tuesday night and it never disappoints! The service from the bartenders are beyond friendly and helpful with the drink selections! They were attentive with the selection of beer and wine. The ambiance is very quiet on some nights unless there's Euchre Tuesday nights or any other event such as live music. The ambiance is perfect and buzzing in December for the seasonal Tom and Jerry cocktails for the holidays. It's an excellent bar with history dating from its opening in 1937 onwards to today! read more

We visited Dec. 18th, just caught the end of the Lions game. The +++++: - The bar was about 3/4 full, good vibe, and the place looked great. - The server was very attentive, polite, courteous, and always smiling. - The busboy was very busy and doing a fantastic job. Tipped him $5. - Didn't check the restrooms so not sure on this part. - My friend had one of the flavored Tom & Jerry's (oatmeal) and said it was fantastic. Nice touch with the mugs. The negatives: - The server didn't know if they carried the vodka that I ordered. This is part of training. Said she had only been there 2 days. Poor excuse. Train and test before putting them on the floor. - Bartenders in t-shirts, with one with his baseball hat on backwards. Not very professional. They use to be in white shirts and ties. Just dress it up some. - Busboy appeared to be underage. Check the laws but pretty sure no one under 18 can work in a bar. Why risk the liquor license. - Someone pointed out that the Christmas tree behind the bar was hung wrong. Said it was always upside down. - There appeared to be a server who just got off work, joined by other staff or friends, but was counting her tips. Not something other guests should witness. Do it behind closed doors, then rejoin your friends. Overall, good experience. Good vibe, friendly staff, and nice to see all the pictures still up. Just tighten up on the details. Very disappointing. After almost 40 years of going their for Christmas and Tom and Jerry this Saturday was not the same. Had to line up to order a Tom and Jerry for a least 15 minutes...had to go to bar to get a drink...no table service. Just not the same..very sad. Guess new owners are trying to save money by not having enough help. read more

Lets start by CASH ONLY! Definitely more of a dive bar, But a super cute dive bar with all of their Christmas decorations! No food except chips and some popcorn! But they are known for their Tom and Jerry's so of course we had to go try.. He got the oatmeal cream cookie and I got fireball and Bailey's which were both delicious! From the awesome neon sign out front, to the xmas decorations inside, this place was a pure Michigan experience for us when visiting for the holidays. If you have to go to two places, stop here first. Old Fashioned Tom & Jerry or a Stroh's Draft please. (EDIT) No more Strohs :( Blue, Miller Light or that one Anheuser beer... They do have Guiness in bottles which is nice. Shots are usually a healthy pour. Don't embarrass yourself looking for a micro brew. This bar is now in my Top 5 Bars list which is heady praise indeed. I visited on Thanksgiving and it was a delightfully festive, warm and comfortable experience. The decor is straight-up vintage Scorsese with great red patterned carpet, rounded brown and red booths and a gorgeous back bar. I had their famous seasonal Tom & Jerry served in a Christmas mug by a very nice woman who has obviously worked there for decades. It was delicious. A couple friends ordered whiskey neat and those were served in a shot glass which I don't like as much as a rocks glass, but it's indicative of the type of joint it is--you take your booze like a man (or woman!) after a hard day's work. Love this place. Love, love, love. It's what a good, blue collar, classic American bar should be. read more

Well, admittedly, the place isn't completely the same since long time owner Helen David passed a few years ago, but it's about as close as you can get. Anytime of year is good here, but Christmas....ah Christmas.....that a different thing entirely. Christmas here is, in a word, legendary. While most of the rest of America stopped doing Tom and Jerry's before JFK was president, here at Brass Rail the frothy concoction (made with Brandy & Rum, although there are other tasty versions) comes served in a coffee cup piping hot and full of holiday goodness. The froth sit on top, and is basically like eggnog whipped with a nutmeg topper (see pic). Anyhow.....stop in and get you some goodness! read more

Even though our beloved Helen David passed away back in 2006, the spirit of the Brass Rail has been kept alive - it is at its heart a local watering hole, but one imbued with hospitality and warmth. You'll find few native Port Huroners who will speak ill of the Brass Rail, despite its faults - enough smoke to cure bacon and a cold shoulder for beers not produced in the US or Canada. However, there's few places I'd rather be on a warm summer night or a cold Christmas evening that shoulder-to-shoulder with the people I grew up with. Go during Boat Weekend, and you'll see generations pass through over the course of the night - those graduating in 1980 or earlier come through early, and those of us who came later tend to close the place down. And yes, even though a Tomy & Jerry does have eggs as an ingredient, they're good for what ails ya, and are guaranteed to put something akin to Christmas Spirit in your heart. read more

I had always driven by here and dismissed it without a second thought. DO NOT make the same mistake I did. The atmosphere here is spectacular. Everyone talking to one another across the bar (like a real-life Cheers, except less laugh tracks). The bartender made the best Kamikaze I have ever had and the drinks were cheap! They let you pick the music (which is nice) and they use their phone to call you a cab- when you're too drunk to use your own. How nice! read more

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, the whole block looked to be close. But to are surprise the door was unlocked. The A/C was working good for being a hot day and about six locals sat at the far end of the bar. I am a fan of micro brews, but one step into this place and you know you are not going to find any craft beer. I've also learned the hard way even if they do have craft beers and the locals aren't drinking it, it can a off taste (a.k.a. old beer). Was able to buy three beer for the price of one micro brew. Also the beautiful wood work of the bar is worth stopping! read more

Came in for a holiday visit from LA. Love this place! It has a classic bar feel and the staff are very friendly. Started our night off with their Traditional Tom & Jerry. Delicious. This place has a small town feel with great hospitality. Smoking is no longer allowed in bars so the air was clean. Surprisingly, I couldn't even smell the remnants of its bygone smoking days.
