Good food, not so great service. Food portions were big and tasted great, but the server didn't have the time of day for us until we ordered alcohol. Even then, she never came by our table, I had to get up from my seat twice to find her. We probably would have had two more drinks each (table of 8) and stayed later if she had checked in more often. Only had appetizers here, but they were heavenly! We ordered two dishes - the crab stuffed mushroom caps and the armadillo eggs (which are just breaded cheese stuffed jalapeños) and out of the two, I would highly recommend the crab stuffed mushroom caps! They were light and well balanced with the cream cheese, crab, and mushrooms. They also came in a really novel dish. The atmosphere was great for winding down and hanging out with friends. The only downfall would be that because we sat at the front it was a little difficult to get the server's attention, but she was really friendly. read more

I used to love this bar. Good beer, great live music, casual atmosphere. Lately, however, they seem to think they are a bar in Toronto and need to have their patrons wait in line so that it looks busier than it is. I visited with a group of friends on Saturday night. When we arrived we were told they were "at capacity" and we would have to wait in line (in the cold) to get in. I decided to take a look in the bar through the massive front windows, and could see clearly that half of the tables were empty. When they are actually at capacity there are no empty tables to be found. This happens there frequently - the hold a line early in the night to make it look busy, but by the end of the night the entire bar is so packed you can barely move. It's very disrespectful, especially to those of us who have been long-time customers. We left and went to another establishment. Their Facebook page is run very unprofessionally, and their security staff has been under fire many times for treating customers badly. While I cannot say I will never go back there (it is a popular bar, after all), I will never wait in a line to get in. There are lots of other places in town that treat their visitors with courtesy and respect. read more

A nice pub with nonstop 80s music. Lots of interesting stuff on the walls. Ups N Downs has lots of beers on tap and even more in the bottle. We ordered sweet potato fries (which came with a yummy, but unidentifiable sauce) and potato skins. Both were tasty. Someone at a nearby table ordered the lamb curry special, and it smelled heavenly. Our group was just in for a pre-dinner drink, so we'll have to try more food next time. If you want a little fresh air, there is a large open-air spot near the sidewalk. Shut-ins may prefer the dark interiors. My aunt was accosted by a religious fanatic trying to recruit people, but that wasn't the pub's fault. Overall, a nice experience. We were there pretty early, and I'm sure things get more lively late at night. Ups N' Downs is open 'til 2 am, which means you've almost always got a place to go in Sarnia. read more

This place was recommended by the Holiday Inn staff as a restaurant who could accommodate a gluten free diet. They had several gluten free options on the menu and I tried the BBQ burger and it was pretty good, a little tangy, but not bad. Neat environment, it's right on the riverfront street and in an old building. Seems like a lot of locals there at 5:00 PM on a Tuesday and it was a friendly place. read more

I've been here a TON over the years on a near weekly basis... They have great drinks (albeit expensive), good selection, good music, nice atmosphere, The food is good... But the last time I went we had a very off-putting waitress... a tall lady who was just 'weird' and unfriendly and made it seem like ordering food was a big deal (at lunch on Canada Day- they were not busy) Oh, and no refill on the $3 diet coke... not even one when it is ice... Ridiculous! I used to have all group get-togethers and birthdays etc here, but I am so put off by that policy and - especially - the waitress that I won't be back. read more

Decent spot in Sarnia for drinks. The service is quite slow however I have only ever gone in the night time and there were many people to be served. The food is terrible and each time I order something I instantly regret eating it. If you're looking for a quality spot to eat you won't find it here. Went for lunch on Good Friday with my husband and daughter. I ordered a sandwich and they ordered fish and chips. My husbands fish was hot in centre and my daughters was cold. Not even warm it was cold. We could not see our waitress, nor did she return to our table to check on us. My husband gave our daughter one of his pieces of fish so she could eat. When the waitress finally came over we informed her of the cold fish. Our plates were cleared and we waited about 10 minutes for the waitress to come back and ask if we wanted the bill. We waited another 15 minutes for the bill and found they did not take off the fish. I waited again for the server to return for payment in order that I could ask her about it. She did not return. I had to pay cash instead of using debit card because she did not return. Bad food and bad service. It is very hit and miss here. read more

This place is great if you want to relax with friends, drink and eat at a pile of wings or nachos. The music is good, although it's wayyy too small for live music (actually hurts my ears when they do). Staff is friendly, and we hosted a party there and the upstairs was lovely, and I'm pretty sure everyone had a good time! We went on a Sunday afternoon. It was family friendly. The Shepard's pie was authentic. The salad was huge. The hamburgers were juicy. The toffee pudding was yummers. The Guinness chocolate cake was very rich. The rice pudding was too runny for my taste, but a great taste though. We will definitely return. Parking is on the street. Food is ok but heavy and greasy, it's a divey pub so I guess it's to be expected. Service can be great, can be not so great, depends on who and when they are serving. This is one of those roll the dice type places. They advertise a shuttle service but rumor is the shuttle driver drinks all day in the pub so not so safe. There are better options at the same price point in Sarnia, I would even go with the chain restaurant Patty Flaherty's over this place. read more

I love the atmosphere here, the food is also pretty good for pub food, their crab sandwich is amazing, I'll be coming back for sure! Their curry is also quite good. My only wish is that they had some fancier drinks but I understand why they don't. read more

I've been coming to Ups N'downs on a off during business visits for going on 15 years now. I recently made a stop there after being away for a good five years. The thing that caught my eye this time was the vastly improved craft beer selection on tap. They have one island for the usual Molson/Labatt's/Guinness and another island dedicated to Canadian craft beer. It's a new one for me in the last five years but a very welcome addition and one that will bring me back if I happen to be in the area again. Plus the staff were very friendly and pleasant after a rather poor experience at another nearby establishment. It was a welcome respite. read more
