I can't speak to the quality of a haircut you can get here, but I can speak to them 100% not having their scheduling together. I booked an appointment online with Marc for last Thursday. I got two text confirmations of this appointment. I show up, and the receptionist tells me Marc isn't in on Thursdays and that they called me and left a message (they had not). She offered to book me in for today and told me I would get a new text confirmation. As I never got a text confirmation, I called this morning to make sure I'm booked. Nope. They tell me I had an appointment LAST Tuesday that I didn't show up for. They can't get me in except with someone else, at different times. I had booked time off work today to do this. Completely unimpressed. If your barber isn't in a certain day, change your online schedule so no one can book him. And if you rebook someone who showed up for an appointment that your system confirmed more than once, make sure you do it correctly. And finally, don't blame the customer when you screw up. read more

The Boston Barber Exchange is a new establishment in the financial district. As I live and work in the burbs, I typically would not go downtown for a haircut. However, I thought I would check out TBBE as my partner's barber (Josh) is the owner (he has been going to Josh for the past few years). I have always heard good things about Josh. Man! I wish I had gone to Josh sooner! I had not had a haircut on maybe three weeks, and it was getting a little scraggly. I didn't have any style in mind so deferred to his judgment in cutting my hair. I just asked that it look good! He is meticulous and paid attention to every detail. He is definitely not like any of the other barbers who have cut my hair (in a good way!). I only wish that we were not moving out of Greater Boston. Finding a good barber is very challenging. I love the new space. It is bright and clean, and has a classic decor. Subway tile and wainscoting surrounds the workspace. Whenever I get back to Boston, I'll have to schedule a hair cut with Josh!! read more

Last trip to Boston, I set an appointment with Derek at the BBE. My son goes there, and always comes away looking sharp. The atmosphere is upbeat, professional, and friendly. The place is very clean and well laid out. Even the background music works well. I gave Derek some vague clues about what I was looking for (it's probably not terribly enlightening when you tell someone you've never met that you're looking for something new...) He handled it like a champ. Hair and beard. Definitely as good or better than any barber work I've experienced in Austin, New York, or Miami... He later joked about being "... a little OCD..." My experience with Marc was great and lived up to my expectations based on the positive reviews. Their online booking system is simple and efficient. The shop is spotless and the barbers stations were tidy and organized which usually is a sign of good things to come. The barbers with a tangled mess of wires and missing clipper guards usually mean either a bad or unnecessarily long hair cut is in your future. Went on their online scheduling site, and it was incredibly easy. I was told my barber would be Joseph S. Got there, he was ready for me, and got what I think was one of the best haircuts in years. I've gotten a haircut and beard trim from Marc. These guys are the best barbers in the greater Boston area as far as I'm concerned. I have some thinning on one part of my hair and Marc made it look better than it's looked in years. Each time the beard looks great too. I've been to about 4-5 barbers throughout my time in Boston & Cambridge and these guys are head and shoulders above any of them. The level of class, care, and consistency here is remarkable.
