Bookcase and barber is a super vibes spot. Apparently it's the only speakeasy in Durango? It's inside of an actual barber shop, and the door is behind a bookcase! They have a small bar where I was seated, but also have plenty of tables. I had a lillet spritz which was very refreshing - I was actually too full to have anything else but I enjoyed it and it was a special for $9, so not bad! The vibes inside at a table would be good for a date for sure. Be aware you need to have the "password" for the evening to get in too (it's on their website).

We had a lovely time hanging on the patio at The Bookcase & Barber. Grateful for a dog friendly space and for Jaycee's attentiveness + promptness with our drinks! Definitely recommend this space. The speakeasy inside is cool, too!

Manhattan and Tale as old as Thyme

My wife and I love speakeasies and this one is great. The bartender and waiters are all very knowledgeable on craft cocktails. We had Troll Toll, VVitch (subbed bourbon instead of vodka, suggest it), manhattan, and Tale As Old As Thyme. Each drink was awesome. We prefer bourbon but the Tale As Old As Thyme was probably our fav. Get the PW off instagram as others mentioned. Great speakeasy, will go back!!

What a cool place! It's an actual functioning barber shop by day, and a speakeasy by night. You walk in to what seems to be a barbershop, but behind the bookcase is a cute and cozy hidden bar serving delicious drinks. You do need the password to get in! We came on a Saturday night and it was full and we were added to the waitlist. We didn't have to wait long before we were able to be seated, maybe 15-20 minutes. It's really cozy inside and has a great cocktail list. I got their "Capote", which was a screwdriver and I was a little nervous it was going to be too sweet for me, but it was PERFECTLY made. The perfect amount of sweetness without being too sweet or acidic like orange juice. Definitely a place you want to hang out for a while, I'll be back next time I'm in the area.

We came here Saturday night when we were visiting Durango and got their password on instagram. You walk through the barber shop and go into the bar behind it. I ordered The Hearth and it was amazing. It was so complex and the more I drank it, the more I liked it. I wish we had stayed here all night. He got Grandpa's Soup and loved it.

Went here with a friend on a Friday night. The wait wasn't long and we got a nice quiet table. Pretty cool decor and setting.

I really enjoyed the Bookcase and Barber. We were given a table quite quickly on a Saturday night, after being put on the waitlist it only took about 30 minutes, which was greatly appreciated. The service was prompt and helpful, we ordered 2 rounds of drinks and felt as if though our server timed their arrival perfectly. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere, although I felt the experience would have been better with a physical menu, as I feel being on your phone takes away from the whole book theme. In terms of drinks, we tried a Putin in Cabo, the Cranberry Saw Us, and espresso martinis. All the drinks we tried were super unique and tasty, I also enjoyed the thought behind the names. I would love to come back and try a couple more cocktails here!

Great Wednesday night visit. Wasn't crowded and the service was great. They made me a fantastic off-the-menu margarita. If you don't see the drink you want on the menu, just ask and they'll likely have several concoctions to suggest for you. Oh, and don't forget to get a shave and a haircut!

Loved the experience. This is a legitimate barbershop! It has two barber chairs and a wall of bookcases. We arrived just before 9pm and we're greeted by the "barber" who asked us what the password was. She opened the bookcase and we walked into a dark swanky speakeasy. Loved the ambiance. Sat at the bar and had a Rye Old Fashioned and Joads Wrath. Good service and drinks!

Great little speakeasy in Durango. Quiet and dark and the mixed drinks were very good. It wasn't as expensive as some we have tried out in Denver. Nice change. I would definitely go back when in town.

It took over 40 minutes to get everyone's drink and 20 waiting for the last drink- a whiskey sour. Definitely not worth the wait for drinks.

I even had Pedro cut my hair while I was there and my lady said it was(is) the best haircut I've ever received.

If you're looking for a place that delivers seriously great drinks, unbeatable happy hour deals,…read moreand a vibe that is peppy but not overtly loud, look no further than Derailed Pour House on Main Avenue. From the moment you walk in, you're surrounded by an atmosphere that's cozy, eclectic, and downright fun, twinkle lights, creative décor, and a laid-back yet lively energy that makes every visit feel special. Their happy hour from 4-6 PM every day is hard to beat with all the classics like wines, mules, Cosmopolitans, margaritas, mojitos, and Manhattans for just $6, plus tasty appetizers for 6& and even quesadillas for a $10. It's one of those deals that's perfect for catching up with friends after a ski day or just kicking back with a well-made cocktail without breaking the bank. Speaking of food, their carne asada quesadilla is amazing, rich, flavorful, and the perfect pairing for any of their drinks. And if you're lucky enough to have Tonny as your server, count yourself fortunate: attentive, personable, and genuinely one of the best in the business, the kind of hospitality that turns a great meal into a memorable night out. Between the delicious drinks, great value, funky ambience, and standout service, Derailed is a must-visit spot in downtown Durango. Whether you're here for happy hour, dinner, or just a cocktail, it's easy to see why locals and visitors alike sing its praises.

Quality food. Nice atmosphere…read more Horrible service. Having frequented this place many times, I'm always amazed at the painstaking lengths that the owner went to provide a pleasant dining experience, good food, high quality ingredients, and a pretty excellent value relationship-- Only to hire incompetent servers. Tonight I was placed alone next to a window, with the server barely spending more than 10 seconds waiting on me--in 50 minutes. Instead, he doted over all of the large groups in my vicinity, promised me a refill on the iced tea, watched me sit there waiting for 30 minutes for a refill, and never provided such. You got it. When I was handed the electronic payment machine...Yupp... he literally stares me down like a back alley shakedown artist. In addition to wearing a scuzzy unkept beard, not advisable for food servers, right?, he actually seems visibly upset when I gave him 16% tip, even asking me "was something wrong?" I know that we are in a small town, and Durango is feeling its growing pains, transitioning from a mountain/railroad rural tourist haven to a high profile mountain resort. But this was so obvious, that it ruined the experience. The burger was well executed and had a nice patina, offering a rewarding crunchy patty exterior. The marinade the patty was placed in was great as well. The bun was high quality and so too was the blue cheese and fried onion strings.
