They order it from Mostly Chocolate in The Heights and they're $3.5 each when sold here. They had about 10 flavors when I went so a lot to choose from like espresso, smores, salted caramel, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, rosemary olives oil and more. The salted caramel: I loved it. I thought 4/5! My girlfriend through it was a little too salty but I thought it was perfect. She would rate closer to 3-3.5 Toffee something: interesting texture it had bits inside that were really nice and the filling was super smooth. The shell was delicious. My girlfriend would rate 4-5/5! Espresso: my girlfriend loveddddd it!! She would do 4-5/5 and I would say around 3-3.5. I wish it were chocolaty-er but my gf wouldn't change a thing. I would come back for the service alone; nothing beats that! Can't wait to try the hazelnut pop rock and smores.

We've made a number of trips to Galveston lately, and let's face it: no matter where Kelly S and I…read moreare going, we're likely to try and find a winery or a brewery. On a recent trip to Galveston, it was the same. We found D'Vine Wine listed in our search and got giddy. We came up on and were as happy as pigs in...well you know. There was a guy out front playing guitar, the patio and backyard looked inviting and slightly rustic, and a decent breeze was in the air. We were ready to camp out with a bottle of wine for a little while. Until... We get inside and see the tastings are pretty pricey. Prices range depending on the type of wine you sample, but I think we paid middle of the road 2 bucks for a plastic, thimble-sized sample. We ask for the sample. The woman behind the bar pours it in the tiny plastic cup and hands it over. And stares at us. So...nothing to say about this one? Must be a real winner. And as expected, it was not very good. We then sample another*, and she pours with no description whatsoever, and we cringe as we sip on this second sample. At this point, we know we'll be moving on, but we browsed anyways as we nursed this second, tiny sample. To our astonishment, they actually have some of the priciest wine we've ever seen at a Texas winery. As we circle back to the bar area, we're greeted with the following: "So, y'all want another sample or something?" ...thanks...but no thanks! *If so bad, why the second sample? 1. We're gluttons for wine/beer/punishment. 2. You got one free sample for "liking" them on facebook. We felt guilty about wanting to leave after having just one free sample. I did not, however, feel guilty about "unliking" them later that night.

I'm finally dusting off my old 2017 review for Boondoggles to provide an update…read more I returned here last night for a pre-birthday outing. While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.

Such as when this place was Opus Bistro, it gets 18 stars on the view and 2 stars on the noise…read morelevel. As for the food? It's OK. Service is fantastic. We came here recently for a Sunday lunch. Fortunately, there were only a handful of patrons here when we arrived (around 11:30). Within 30 minutes, the dining room was full, and we couldn't hear each other talk. I remember experiencing the same thing when this joint was known as Opus Bistro several years ago. Despite the noise, the dining room still offers an excellent view of the canal and the people pulling up on their boats. Again, the food here is OK. Nothing more. In fact, it was quite reminiscent of a Fertita-owned restaurant with lines of delivery trucks from Sysco and Gordon's lined up at the loading dock. More specifically, the coconut shrimp came out crispy with not much flavor beyond the cloyingly sweet sauce served alongside. The fries are battered. Not my bag, though they arrived at the table hot and crispy. (Since when do crispy fries need batter?!?) The tacos were average. Not bad, but nothing different than you would get at most other places. Same with the Caesar salad and crispy Brussels sprouts. The crab bisque tasted tomatoey. That's not a deal breaker, but I expect a garlicky, buttery broth that has been thickened with heavy cream. Not the case here, as this was flour-thickened with inexpensive ingredients. And the amount of crab was negligible. Those *are* deal breakers. The beer selection is fine here. And, again, the service was really good on our visit. Bottom Line: I totally want local businesses to succeed. But my money is also hard-earned, and I want the food to taste local and to be made with high-quality ingredients. When it doesn't -- and this place doesn't -- I might as well grab a Groupon and go to Red Lobster.

My husband and I decided to share a small Greek salad, the Pasta Aglio and the Baklava cheese. The salad and pasta were both delicious, light yet filling and plenty for the two of us to share. The salad actually had SUPER green lettuce leaves, which was such a pleasant surprise. However, the Baklava cheesecake was pretty disappointing. It was a giant piece of plain cheesecake that had toppings on it from what seemed like a piece of baklava cake. Those toppings disappeared pretty quickly and that left us with a bunch of plain cheesecake. We were expecting the baklava flavors to be swirled into the cheesecake, which is why we found this to be disappointing. The service was pretty slow, which was surprising considering it was pretty empty as it was a Sunday night. Otherwise, it was a good experience and we would return if we ever happen to find ourselves in the area again.

Wow. WOW is the word to describe this place…read more Let me tell you about Bella the bartender, the BEST bartender I have ever encountered in my entire life. And listen, I'm basically a certified alcoholic (just kidding... allegedly), so trust me when I say I know a good drink when I taste one. I've sampled enough lovely liquors in my day to know what's good and what's just overpriced sadness in a glass. Bella is COMMITTED to her craft. She literally told me she studies cocktail recipes day and night. Like... how cute is that? Meanwhile I can barely commit to folding my laundry. Then she proceeds to make me the SMOOTHEST, yummiest espresso martini my tastebuds have ever had the privilege of experiencing. One sip and I was astonished, emotional, slightly turned on, all of the above. This woman has the shake hands of a goddess. I think I fell in love a little bit. Also, shoutout to the super friendly man in the Hawaiian shirt and Bob Ross-style beret. He brought immaculate vibes to the whole place and made the experience even better (for the most part). Anyways, the drinks at this place are phenomenal. 1000% give this place a try. And if you get Bella as your bartender, congratulations- you ARE one of God's favorites.
