My wife loves Cajun seafood, but somehow she had never been to Boiling Crab. I kept telling her this franchise was one of the originals and that I used to love the Koreatown location years ago. So we finally decided to give this location a try. The seafood was fresh and price was reasonable. My only disappointment was the Sha-Bang sauce. Everyone recommends it because it's a mix of all their signature flavors, but it just wasn't for me. The lemon pepper completely overpowered the Cajun seasoning and garlic butter, so all I really tasted was the sourness of lemon pepper with hint of Cajun seasoning. Next time, I'll probably stick with Cajun or garlic butter. One thing first-time visitors should know is that Boiling Crab doesn't offer combo platters. You order each type of seafood by the pound, then choose your seasoning and spice level. It gives you the freedom to customize your meal, but it can also add up pretty quickly if you're ordering a variety of seafood like we did. Service was okay, but definitely could have been better. Our server, Abel, was friendly, but we barely saw him after taking our order. He only came back when I asked for a soda refill, then again for a to-go box and the check. With a bill close to $250, I expected a little more attention. What really stood out was the server taking care of the table next to us. She was constantly checking on her guests, making sure their drinks were full, and making them feel welcomed. My wife was so impressed with her service that she actually asked for her name. It was Julie. She never waited on us, but her level of attentiveness was noticeable enough that my wife wished we had been seated in her section instead. Overall, we still had a good meal, and I'm glad I finally got to introduce my wife to Boiling Crab. It just didn't have that same "wow" factor I remembered from the Koreatown location years ago. This Boiling Crab location is a little farther from me, but it's SO worth the drive! We came on a Sunday right before they opened, and even though the line was long, we got seated quickly because they have so many tables. The customer service here is seriously the best I've experienced at any Boiling Crab. Someone checked on us every few minutes, and we never had to flag anyone down. A long time family favorite. Likely my mother's favorite restaurant. We brought her here for a late Mother's Day dinner. And this place did not disappoint. if you're not familiar with this business, and other similarly named/themed businesses, they specialize in Texas/Cajun seafood boils. As far as I know, Boiling Crab is the original and the other places are getting in on the action as well. The other places I have tried don't have the same quality of seafood. Getting back to this review, we were served by both Ily and Lily. Both did a phenomenal job in following up with us and making sure our dining exper went very well. So much so that my mother wanted to speak with the manager and let her know what a fantastic job they were doing. We started off with the fried oysters, the Cajun clams, and the Cajun mussels. I believe they have four or five different flavors. We have always stayed with the Cajun. All three dishes were fantastic. In particular, this time, the oysters and the clams stood out. The clems were plump and flavorful. Wish I had taken photos. My apologies. The Cajun medium is still pretty spicy, so keep that in mind. We also ordered the dungeness crab, the gumbo, and even chicken tenders with fries (for my dad who doesn't eat shellfish). All dishes were flavorful and fantastic. Even the fries were great and we finished them all. Who would have expected that? I would like to thank our servers, and the rest of the staff on that night to give my mother a phenomenal Mother's Day dinner. Rest assured, we will be back again soon. read more

I still absolutely love boiling crab just a critique, when I went on Memorial Day I ordered 2 pounds of crawfish and one pound mussels. The crawfish nearly tasted undercooked and just hard to peel. By the time I realized I was nearing the end of my meal so I asked if it was frozen or live they said live. I don't like the idea of them choosing what I got. Especially live knowing it's probably priced more. I absolutely hate live crawfish it taste weird and hard to peel. I didn't even fully eat it I left more than half. It was on me for not staying frozen but I got side tracked with everyone else's order but waiter should've clarified if I wanted either or. From what I could tell, Boiling Crab is the crossroads for seafood lovers looking to get messy and wear bibs. And looking to see what the fuss of positive reviews was about, I decided to drop by for a to-go order. For this order, I chose to try their Mild Fried Softshell Crab Basket ($17) and 2 Links of Sausage with Garlic Seasoning ($17). Opening up the crab basket, I could make out two softshell crabs divided into 4 pieces total. Each crab was about the size of my palm which was somewhat small, but I suppose is the standard size for softshell crab. And layering the bottom of the basket were some french fries with seasoning. Looking at this dish, you could definitely get more quantity for the price point. And after eating this bowl, I was feeling somewhat hungry. On the other hand, the two sausage links had a much higher price to portion ratio. Because of the thick cuts for each sausage, it was very satisfying to eat. The accompanying sauce helped to add some flavor to the additional rice I ordered which created some breaks from eating the meat. Taste-wise, the softshell crab tasted like a seafood paste, and disappeared in the matter of a few bites. The fries had a light peppered seasoning to them, but overall did not complement much with the crab. As for the sausages, each piece was spiced perfectly with a seasoned kick. The garlic sauce added an extra layer of spice that gave moisture to the entire dish. And for last, the sausages retained moisture which helped to make the dish easy to eat. My first experience at Boiling Crab was a mixed one to say the least. While the 2 sausage links were great from a taste and price to portion standpoint, the softshell crab basket fell through. Others here have suggested the seafood boils are the dishes to try, so I'll definitely have to give those a go the next time I come around. But otherwise, I'd say Boiling Crab sits at a solid 4 star rating. Rich, flavorful food for those looking for seafood and beyond. read more

We waited about 45 minutes until we were seated and we got right to ordering! We ordered the crabber fries with Cajun spice in mild, soft shell crab with Cajun fries in medium, 2lbs shrimp xxs, 1.5lbs shrimp medium, 1lb crawfish medium, sausage and corn with the shabang sauce and it was delicious! The fries were super crispy and seafood tasted fresh, and our bag came with soo much sausage so we were definitely filled by the end. Service was quick and it was very spacious inside. I absolutely love coming to this Boiling Crab location! I used to always go to the Alhambra location, but this one definitely beats it for me. 10/10 for the food and service! The staff is always friendly, the service is super fast, and the food is absolutely amazing. You can never go wrong with their shrimp by the pound--it's one of my favorites! The only downside is the wait time, especially during busy hours. Even for a party of four, I would anticipate waiting around 30-40 minutes. If you're coming with a larger group of 10 or more, expect the wait to be closer to an hour or even an hour and a half. But once you're seated, it's definitely worth the wait! I also love the fun, beachy atmosphere. One of my favorite features is that they have sinks outside of the restrooms, which is perfect because you should definitely expect to get messy! My daughter and her friends love The Boiling Crab. We came on a Thursday night and had a slight wait. Nothing to serious as we used Yelp to place our names on the list. This place is for true seafood lovers who love to get dirty and hunt for the last juicy bite. It is messy, you do wear a bib and they give you gloves to use if you need them. We ordered a 1lb of shrimp and 1lb of snow crab legs, extra sauce and two bowls of white rice. The shrimp were really big and the crab legs were meaty. My daughter is a pro so she was able to tear into the shrimp no problem. For me, it was a bit more messy. My go to order is 1lb shrimp medium spice with the whole sha bang. I add a corn every now and then. Those could get a bit expensive so it's really when I want to treat myself. If you don't come here when the doors open then you'll be waiting forever. The vibe is cool - with a beachy/shipwreck theme going. The inside is big with lots of tables. Tastes like i remembered - great. Got shrimp, corn, potatoes and a boiled egg with the Sha-Bang sauce (mild) and sausage. The flavors are great - buttery, lemony, peppery, and juicy.
