Great pub with amazing atmosphere. Staff was quick and ensured we had everything we needed. Food was ok, I wish my sandwich would have been toasted a bit longer so the cheese and meat could really heat up an meld together. Partner had the fish and chips which he said was excellent

We had the best time here! Michael is the best bartender ever and took great care of us while in Ireland. Molly makes the best Irish Coffee. The only regret I have is I couldn't bring them back to the USA and be able to go see them daily like we did while in Dublin. They even bought us a notebook and wrote in it for our anniversary. The fish and chips there are wonderful too. Michael really took care of us and I will miss our nightly visit to see them. Love this place. If you are in Ireland please go here! You will not be disappointed.

Just walking around area and stopped in for a pint. Place holds about 30 downstairs. Did not go upstairs so wasn't sure what it holds up there. They do serve food but did not get any. Service was good but not overly friendly.

The wife and I had never been to an actual Irish pub before, so walking in here felt a little awkward. The place was full of people (seats about 20) with locals enjoying their drinks and watching rugby. We weren't sure what the protocol was, so we just waited by the door. I thought it'd be like in a movie where everybody suddenly stops talking and turns to stare at you in a disregarding way. Fortunately that didn't happen. The bartender/owner was friendly and seated us at a small table underneath the bigscreen TV. He didn't bat an eye when we ordered only hot water to drink (though he was probably thinking "are these people for real?"). We enjoyed watching the game and listening to the locals watching the game while we ate. The wife and I ordered: * Soup of the Day (€4.50): Chicken and veggie soup served with brown bread. This was a flavorful, hearty soup, but a little on the salty side. * Shepherd's Pie (€10.95): This was enjoyable. Flaky crust and meat and veggies cooked just right. Served with potato wedges and a side salad. * Fish & Chips (€9.95): This was just ok. The fish was lacking in the rich flavor characteristic of a good deep fried fish. We didn't finish all the chips, so we asked for a to-go box. I guess restaurants here aren't accustomed to that, since the owner had to fetch us a takeout container from another restaurant for our leftovers. At this point he was probably wondering what planet we were from! 3.5 stars overall, rounded up for friendly service and an authentic pub experience!

Got the Beef stew and shepherds pie. They were hearty and hit the spot after a long rainy day outside, which is many days in Dublin.

It's a classic small pub just North of the river and next to the tracks. Food was average (Irish breakfast and vegetarian egg bake). Only one staff with 15-20 patrons during lunch so was a struggle for her. Worth swinging in for a quick pint but many options just south of here.

This is a very popular lunch spot and now I know why, the portions are huge for the money you give. I got a cheese burger with some fancy sweet pepper & onion relish. It came with wedges and salad, way too much for me, but it was great value for €7.95. It's a cosy little pub with a bigger upstairs. My lunch was made even more pleasant by the presences of a handsome man with a sexy Northern Irish accent... Try acting demure whilst stuffing your face with a huge burger, quite the challenge.

I really should have read the reviews more closely. I came in looking for a hearty delicious meal and was heartily disappointed. The food was all very bland and mostly over salted. I had the soup of the day (beef and veg) Which tasted like it was from a can. Then ordered their signature shepherd's Pie which comes with a side salad and fries or wedges. (The Irish really love their potatoes) The pie was clearly pre made and was served barely warm. Really nothing special. I expected more. Sadly the tastiest part of the meal were the potato wedges. There's so many pubs in Dublin, you shouldn't have to settle.

The Boars Head. Its a nice pub. Not my type of place to dine, but it's my last stay in Dublin. Trying to get into the Irish spirit. No complaints here. I ordered the Spicy Hot Wings and it's the juicy and great. The Shepherd's Pie was amazing for my main course. I recommend this place to travelers. It's quite friendly.

Bad service. Ask for 10€ for a so-so overcooked fish & chips. Won't come here again.

The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

Had to excuse ourselves from the table multiple times to freshen drinks. The food was good. Once again, absolute star was the Buffalo Wings! Ireland? I mean what??? Upon entering it was slightly confusing as to go upstairs or into the bar area to find the hostess to be seated & with no one there to help us we walked into the Bar area to the right & ordered a few Guinness's & waited for someone to seat us somewhere. We ended up being seated in the entry area right at the entrance which was fine because it was super loud up the stairs. We ordered the Pork Pie & The Beef Casserole. Both were really good & filling. The service was decent & the ambiance was nice although it was very, very loud. Overall it was a great meal with above average prices but I'm not sure we'd go back next time due to the other factors.

From the…read moreoutside, it plants itself confidently among Dublin's historic streets with a façade that promises hearty fare and good pints; inside, the space is warm and inviting with dark wood, exposed brick, beautiful murals, and comfortable seating that encourages lingering. My party of six walked in on a Wednesday night at around 7:30pm; at that time, the restaurant was about half-full, but filled up over the course of our meal. The menu has plenty of options ranging from healthy salads to traditional Irish dishes to your standard hearty pub fare. Drinks are also fairly priced here, and they have a good range of ales and lagers on tap (and of course, the classic Guinness). I opted for their Rustic Dublin Coddle (€20.50), which is a sizeable bowl of warming soup with two chargrilled, tender pork sausages, smoky bacon, soft potatoes, and onion, served with toasted sourdough bread. I appreciated the clean taste of the soup (made with an herbed chicken broth), which cut the rich fattiness of the sausage and bacon. I do wish the soup had been served with a more traditional Irish brown bread, but the sourdough was tasty nonetheless. Another great dish was the Waterloo Prime Irish Beef Burger (€19), which is a large patty of juicy, prime Irish beef served atop a toasted bun, with red onions, baby gem lettuce, pickled gherkins, and a tangy smoked Dublin cheddar. Some friends ordered the Superfood Salad (€15), which has a plethora of fresh vegetables and grains, but they noted it was quite bland, even with the French dressing. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side for a pub, but I find Waterlooo Bar unique in that the atmosphere feels classic but lively: you get that laid-back Dublin pub energy with a hint of sophistication that makes it great for both casual meals and nights out. The food is solid if not stellar, the vibe is fun, and prices are reasonable for the area; a satisfying pick for an Irish pub dinner.
