Clarinda's Tea Room - I liked the hanging teacups

**March 2024: Weekday Morning Visit**…read more A couple of things to note -No reservations -Hours: Tues-Fri: 10am-4:30pm; Mon: Closed; Sat/Sun: 9:30am-4:30pm I saw this tearoom featured on a youtubers channel and thought it would be a great breakfast option as Clarinda's is known for their scones and baked goods. I came pretty close to the opening and was able to select my choice for seats. I picked a table near the window for natural lighting. They have a table of a lot of tasty treats and while I didn't get a chance to try them all, I can attest to the scone being very tasty! I ordered the Cream Tea (I think I ordered the Lemon and Elderflower) which comes with a freshly baked homemade scone (I chose a fruit one), and a cup of tea €6.80. I decided to upgrade to a pot of tea (€7.75) and added a bowl of porridge (€5.50) with jam as I usually prefer savory breakfasts. This was more than enough to eat for one, but I just enjoy trying different items - does anyone else have this problem? lol I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here as the ambiance, food and tea were homey and intimate. This would be such a fun place to converse with girlfriends for tea time!

We had breakfast here on our first day in Edinburgh. It's cozy and the walls are covered with paintings, antique cups, and plates. To be honest the walls are quite chaotic but that's where the personality comes in. We ordered the eggs with toast and the full Scottish breakfast. Food was great, coffee hit the spot, and service was excellent. Even with the chaos they keep the place clean. Also, BEWARE they do not have hot sauce here LOL. I asked the server and she said "No, but it was worth a try to ask" Respect lol. We sat by the window and people watched and awed at the beautiful architecture of Edinburgh. It's a chill spot to rest and refuel. Would love to come back for their afternoon tea!

Yes, it's an old barn converted into a restaurant with its unique design of colours, blue, white and yellow/beige being the most dominant. The place is classy. The staff let's you feel welcome and serves in style, very politely. We ordered the famous afternoon tea and for myself it exceeded my expectations of deliciously tasty little cakes, lemon posset, soft and juicy cucumber, salmon and ham sandwiches, macaroons, tart pieces, leek and potato soup and scones with cream and jam. You also get a choice of teas and coffees. I won't say more, as you have to experience the afternoon tea assortment for yourself and maybe followed by a little walk around the premises, which are open to the public. Last year I also visited the Hopetoun House horse trials and it is an amazing experience for the family. It's normally on in June and this year 2015 over the last weekend of June. The house is also open to the public for an entrance fee. There is a small car park and little shed were you can buy your ticket from. Think for adults it's around £14. Enjoy x

What a quaint wee tea room!…read more Situated in the centre of the New Town area of Edinburgh, Brown Sugar is just a few streets from the main shopping area, Princes Street, and so it is a convenient place to reach - and it is definitely worth a visit. Brown Sugar is a wee corner cafe overlooking Queen Street, and it would be quite easy to walk straight past this place and not notice it as it is pretty inconspicuous from the outside. I have been here several times for a coffee and a cake and each time I go I wonder why I'm not here more often. The interior of the Cafe is really new and modern, with great chilled out music playing in the background. You always get a wonderful waft of fresh coffee as soon as you enter you shop, and there is something about that smell which completely compels me to buy coffee! There is a counter at the back of the store which sells the most amazing looking home made cakes, such as cheese cake and carrot cake, but my absolute favourite is their chocolate brownie which is in credibly moist and fluffy with huge chunks of chocolate - yummy! Brown Sugar unfortunately comes with the standard New Town prices, so the cakes and drinks are a wee bit more expensive than other cafes in Edinburgh, but the delicious food makes it worth it. If you want to buck the trend and avoid going to the Starbuck's or Costa on every street corner, Brown Sugar is a fantastic alternative.

This is the sort of place you could come for a coffee on your own and happily sit for hours with a magazine or a book. The staff just leave you to it, and everyone just seems to relaxed. I have been here several times and it's always had the same atmosphere, and I have never seen anyone in here with kids which adds to the peace! The menu is really good, with sandwiches, soups, salads and baked potatoes amongst others, and the cakes are brilliant! I had a lovely toffee sponge cake and like Lauren says, the chocolate brownie is fabulous! Definitely one of the best wee caffs around. Just don't tell too many people, or everyone will want a piece!
