Tuna melt toastie that comes with salad and crisps.
    Zak B.

Delicious. Such a small place but what an enourmous taste. That's what happens when everything is made fresh to order and on site. Homemade bread, soups. Lo am delivered ingredients all combine to make one incredible sandwich, salad, and just meal in general. I had the tuna melt which was perfectly crispy and delightfully seasoned. Not too much, not too little. Not greasy either. The salad had a delicious poppy dressing on it that combined with the fresh ingredients made it a too competitor for my taste buds and attention from my plate. It's also just a short walk from Stirling Castle!

An historically fascinating building which is quite a good place to stop for a coffee and snack. There's not a lot of room as the tables are very close together - we were lucky to find one right at the back near the counter as it was standing on its own. The walls are covered with money - currency from many lands - which is interesting. there is also a world map with pins pressed in to indicate where people have come from who have visited the cafe. The coffee and cake I had with my husband was very nice. Service was OK. In short, nothing to rave about but a reasonable place to stop for a coffee if you're nearby.

Was here for lunch during my visit to Stirling. The place itself is lovely! They had the usual options for food; sandwiches, toasties, soups etc. nothing too special. I thought the portions were good though. I think there were only two staff members the day I went so it seems like the were overwhelmed. They got our order mixed up like twice and also changed our soup order twice too. They did offer to pay for our soup so that was good compensation for all the mix up.

After spending two hours gallivanting around Stirling Castle (because that's what one does in a castle), we were ready for lunch. There were two or three places within and directly adjacent to the castle, however, after spending 4 days in the UK, I wasn't in the mood for spending 10 pounds on a ham and cheese toastie. We walked a little ways down the castle (8 minute walk) and came across the Darnley Coffee House, an unassuming little place that wasn't on my Yelp radar (I was searching for restaurants, not coffee houses). I wasn't expecting much but coffee and croissants, but it turns out they have everything from french press coffee (you get your own little french press) to fresh soup and award winning desserts (if they aren't award winning, they should be). I went with the soup (broccoli cheddar) and salad with buttered bread and a carafe of Kenya coffee to wash it down. The salad was fresh, the soup was very creamy, and the coffee was outstanding. I drink french press at home and was happy to see it here. All of the coffee is local (from Glasgow), which is another plus in my book. Not a coffee guy/gal, no worries. They have a great selection of loose leaf teas as well. Best thing? The prices. Very reasonable and definitely not reflective of the quality of the food. When one pays 4.50 pounds for a bowl of soup and a large salad, one expects cafeteria style food (at least I do). Not here. I was impressed with the taste, freshness, and portions. The coffee and tea prices were also reasonable, as they give you your own french press carafe of coffee or pot of tea. I grew accustomed to paying 3.50 pounds for a cup of coffee in Edinburgh, so it was a nice treat to buy a cup of coffee at a price the rest of the world is used to paying. Do yourself a favor and skip the castle cafes, take a 5-10 minute walk down the hill and stop on by Darnley Coffee House. Your stomach (and wallet) will thank me.

My wife and I had a great lunch at this place in Stirling. Though small, I would recommend it to everyone. Good food. Great desserts!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. The food was great, and the desserts were even better. We had soup, salad and sandwiches, and nothing was missing. Good portions. The soup was excellent, salads were fresh and the sandwich (in my case, chicken and mayonnaise in white bread) was generous. The chicken was tasty and the bread was obviously fresh. (I could have eaten a loaf by itself!). We finished with a Millionaire's Shortbread and a Carrot Cake. Awesome! We liked the service, and we'll definitely go again when in Stirling. The one star short of five is only due to size. If you don't get a table, you'll have to wait outside for a table to open up. But hey, get take-out. ;-)

Café 33 it is then! I wandered in to chalkboards, quirky signs and LOTS of Christmas decorations. ('Tis the season to be jolly and all!) It's eclectic and quirky! - Maybe a little bit much for some but I really loved the vibe. To me it felt very much like an old style cafe where you could sit and wile away the hours over a tea and cake. And there's lots of cake! Including gluten free options! They all looked delicious! The boards boast their gluten free meals and they aim to offer low-fat dishes where possible! I'm not sure if it's somewhere I'd head for an evening meal but as it got closer to 5, Café 33 showed no sign of getting quieter. It was bustling! And service was fast and friendly despite this. Whilst the cakes were tempting, I opted for my usual. (Chai latte, if you're asking!) I find that larger coffee chains can be a little too generous with the syrup and make theirs sickly sweet but Café 33's was a perfect mix of frothy milk, lovely chai tea and a generous dusting of cinnamon. Just the right amount of sweetness! So much so that I had a second! I'm sure I'll be back soon for my third!

It was agonising to have to make a choice!!! If I lived in Bridge of Allan I would make a point of visiting this cafe every week to try a bit of everything! There are savoury snacks and light lunches available too of course. I embarrassed myself hugely by knocking my full latte over the table and floor - what a mess!! The owner came over and quickly cleaned the table and floor before bringing me another latte - which she didn't add to the bill. Needless to say I was very apologetic and grateful. Definitely a lovely little cafe - and I can't recommend those wonderful cakes highly enough!!!

The service almost always was super attentive and always made sure we were taken care of. 10/10 recommend the millionaire bars they were almost always delicious and moist I also think it might depend on the baker whose baking too which batch and cutting the bars and desserts because somedays the pieces are different or taste just a little bit better but regardless always tasty! However the only one we did not like surprisingly was the carrot cake. It was just weirdly dense not cakie and like juicy its a bit weird to explain but just wasnt our favorite. Everything else though awesome and the food is just superb! I think my favorite was the vegan fry or haggis toastie if you like a bit of sweet and salty combo! If you go on the weekends however I do recommend having a booking or you most likely wont get in till later in the day. I'll miss you hideaway the best food!

Having had brunch here previously, heading here for lunch was something I was excited about. It was very busy this time round so service was understandably a little slower. We did have a short wait for a table but it really wasn't long till we were seated considering it was peak lunching hour. Oh my word. Sandwich heaven. I had the bacon and mozzarella baguette with hot salsa and guacamole and it was absolutely delicious. Lots of cheese, lots of bacon, lots of yum. The Hideaway is just the perfect spot for tea and cake, I definitely want to sample their baked goods soon. Very, very soon!

(Tip well guys! :P) This place has got a very chilled out, laid back vibe. It's the kind of place after you've been a few times, they remember your order and your favourite seat. The coffee is reasonably priced BUT remember to flash your student card for a little extra discount! Also, if you buy a coffee before 10am you get free refills all day which was always a great incentive for me to be up and at 'em before the morning rush! There is also a good selection of cakes and snacks on offer (the cheese and bacon toasties are delish!) and soup for lunchtime hunger pangs. They also have a reasonable selection of soft drinks and milkshakes on offer and an amazing selection of weirdly named teas (try the Magic Tea, it's a revelation.) It's also open til 8pm which is a bonus! The Burgh is also available for events too - I've attended group German lessons there, a Lush party, an SSP meeting, an open mic night and even had a tutor hold a seminar in the place. I'm pretty sure it's free to book so it's great for wee gatherings in a nice cosy setting. There's a vast selection of board games on offer too, as well as hundreds of donated to books to simply flick through or to buy with a donation. Free WIFI too - it became my study sanctuary for a year or too! Settle in to one of their comfy sofas or their more private booths and drift away with a Gingerbread Latte - bliss!
