A stop off on our way north, Mhor surprisingly far exceeded expectations. You'll walk in to see a ton of fresh made sandwiches. We grabbed a few for a lunch later in the day along with a pair of pastries, and some coffee. We ate the pastries in their tearoom and the sandwiches a few hours later on the road. Both were a-maz-ing. The sandwiches were made fresh, stayed great until we got to the later in the day, and were portioned well. I kind of want to go back to get another few sandwiches, but sadly I've left Scotland and am back in the states (and my routine work-life). Good bread and breakfast spot in Callander, the name of the city was so cool and we saw this place was highly reviewed so we stopped here to stretch our legs and get breakfast. It was about 9 am and already quite busy, it seemed like everybody who was on the way to Isle of Skye or Glencoe was stopping here. They are known for good sandwiches so we got 2 different ones to try. Both sandwiches came with a purple color coleslaw that was good but we found all the coleslaw in Scotland had too much mayo for our preference. Pastrami with Swiss sandwich: Proper pastrami that is a nice pink with black crust from the nitrates and smoking process. Plenty of cheese and meat but it was very large, had to save half for later or I wouldn't have been able to drive. Turkey sandwich: with pickles and white cheddar, they had some kind of mayo spread that was good. This was surprisingly tasty and we ended up eating more than the kids. If you go down the alley on the side you can eat at a little lake in the back. There's a hill with Worden steps you can climb and from the top you can see a small, old cemetery. They had a wide assortment of country loaves for sale as well! read more

The Mhor Bakery is such a charming little spot! We stopped in on our way to the Highlands for breakfast and were impressed by the wide selection of breads, pastries, and deli sandwiches. I tried the salmon croissant and a blueberry crumble pastry--both were absolutely delicious. The staff were also super friendly, which made the visit even nicer. Stopped in for lunch while on a tour. It was after regular lunch hours but they were busy and there's no wonder why! The staff is very friendly and helpful and the selection is fantastic. We ordered a meatball sandwich and a (Scottish) ham and cheese sandwich, which they toasted nice so the crust was just the right amount of crispy but the inside was good and chewy. We also ordered one of their apple tarts and a brownie. Everything is baked on site; rich and delicious! The dining room is quaint and true European fashion with long community dining tables. Absolutely love Mhor! We had dinner at Mhor 84 the night before and were so impressed that we had to visit Mhor Bread. We arrived just before closing, so the selection was limited. However, the wonderful staff member on duty went above and beyond, warmly inviting us to return the next day for a better selection. She even recommended her favorite pastries and generously gifted us some treats. We came back the next day--and it was absolutely worth it! The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the pastries and food were simply delicious. The tea was excellent, and the cozy atmosphere made it all the more enjoyable. Visiting Mhor Bread was a true highlight of my trip to Scotland. I'll definitely be back! read more

We ate there twice! Once at the suggestion of the tour bus driver and once on our way via car to Glencoe. OMG OMG the bread. This is not the time to be low carb. All sourdough, different varieties. Every sandwich was great, hot steak pie amazing and apple pie wonderful. I'd go back a third time if I could. We grabbed a loaf of sourdough white for our breakfast at our Airbnb. Absolutely delicious! Our tour guide suggested this cafe at our pit stop, and I'm glad he did. The line moved quickly and they were friendly. We got a warm sausage roll, Mac and cheese pie, a peanut butter brownie, and a millionaire brownie. This was the best sausage roll we have had in the UK! Also the Mac and cheese pie was delicious and extra cheesey. Definitely get a brownie for later! Both were fudgey and sweet. The millionaire had a layer of caramel. This cute spot came recommended by my Rabbies tour operator. He suggested the pies. It was a bit too early in the day for me to try a pie, but i did order a scone and an icing-topped biscuit....as well as a flat white to go. The biscuit was the star for sure, but the scone was also great. All in all, a perfect combination for a stomach fill while briefly wandering the streets of Callander. read more

Came to this town on a little rest stop break on our way to tour the Glencoe Highlands. We saw the line at the door and knew we had to try it. Everything we had was so amazing! Can't remember all the specific names of some items, but we had a steak pie, a jalapeno and cheese bread, and a sandwich for mains. We also had a kinder blondie, a peanut butter brownie, and hazelnut meringue for desserts. Everything was so deliciously rich in flavor and well priced. The line was long, but the service to order went by fast and efficiently. Hope to come back and we'll definitely recommend to friends who are touring Scottland! read more

Amazing pies. Every time when I'm going to north super powerful magic is forcing me to stop and have a pie. Every time I'm taking steak pie (because proper chunks of beef meat inside) and haggis pie (because is with haggis;-) Highly recommended place. If you are in Callander, have to stop for a pie. Parking is behind, 50 yards from the shop. In rainy day stay inside.... but if you have double luck and you caught a sunny day, take pies and coffee away and go to the river behind the shop, find a bench and enjoy.... eh life is so beautiful. read more

Yum! Letting our nose lead us once more into baked goods heaven. I had the macaroni pie with hand cut fries and my husband had the wee breakfast without the sausage and toast which he replaced for an extra egg and ham and he loved it! The eggs were delicious! Stopped here for lunch on a rainy day during a whiskey tour. The streak and haggis pie was recommended so all four of us ordered it. All four are now converted haggis lovers. It was so good. A simply outstanding bakery and cafe. These guys serve up monster sized, filled, daily special ciabattas, the meatiest pies I've ever had the pleasure of scoffing and excellent coffee from Ily. I always pop in to Mhor Bread early in the morning to pick up my lunch on the way to the mountains. While I'm at it, it serves as the perfect pit stop for a caffeine fix. In addition to the array of traditional Scottish pies they bake some wonderful loaves of bread, the sourdough being my favourite and excellent cakes too. Mhor Bread is half the reason I go hillwalking. Literally any excure to drive through Callander, love this place! :) read more

I found this place to be decent. It was average in each way... we came here as it was a stop from the tour we were doing along the ways from Loch Lomond.. service was decent, price was affordable, and food was good. Nothing was memorable except the name and that is ok. If you are vegetarian, the pies are not for you as they are made with lard. I ordered the MacNcheese was pretty good and it was a nice quaint place for a quick bite to eat on a dreary day. read more

Besides pastries, croissants, scones, and donuts; you can also get savory pies, chips (fries), and even fried eggs. Stopped in here for a bite to eat on a rare sunny Saturday in Callender. The place has an old school proper bakery with tasty looking freshly baked bread, scones and cakes. However, we decided to eat in the adjoining tearoom despite the fact there was no menu outside which is always frustrating :) The tearoom is bright and airy with a few smaller tables and a few larger wooden bench style which meant we were seated at the end of a table with another group. I'm never keen on this idea - not being anti social but I usually like my own space but on this occasion it wasn't a problem. I was keen to sample the bread so opted for toasted Mhor bread with hummus and salad and a Diet Coke whilst my friend went for the Wee breakfast with toast, sausage, beans and egg. The huge mound of hummus was okay but the toast was a bit too crunchy and nothing special. The wee brekkie went down pretty well so no real complaints there. Price wise the hummus and brekkie weren't too bad at £5.50 each but £2 for a wee Diet Coke seemed a bit cheeky. Some of the other options on the menu sounded pretty nice and the scones/ cakes looked good so they'd definitely be worth sampling! read more

This is a fantastic speciality bread shop in Callander. They have all manner of fancy loaves, and incredible looking cakes. It's not all fancy items either, you can buy traditional wee cakes too like fern cakes. There's a sit in area where you can have a more substantial bite to eat, and a shop section, where you can buy everything in sight to take home and eat your way to gluten fuelled glory. THOSE PIES! If you're ever passing through Callander (I doubt people stop here for any length of time) then I implore you to visit this place. The pies are insane. Huge, freshly baked and filled with the most sublime ingredients. The steak and haggis pie is the stuff of meaty dreams. Well spiced, big chunks of steak and gravylicious. The cake selection looked fabulous too although after one of those huge ass pies most would be hard pushed to manage one. read more

This cafe is part of the Monachyle Mhor empire. It shows too. To the unknowing eye, it looks like the archetypal West of Scotland tearoom/bakery. Slightly oddly coloured cakes and a lot of pie. But then you realise Glasgow thinks it is all trendy these days and has virtually lost this sort of old fashioned bakery. Sadly, the general public seem not to have noticed its very trendy West London type interior and there always seems to be a big table of "tea and scone" eating people at lunchtime. We stopped by here on the way back to Edinburgh, luckily we found this and were able to get an almost 3 pm lunch. The bakery is what you initially walk into, but there is plenty of seating in a small cafe to the side with table service. We ordered two soup of the days and two pies with chips, as well as a few coffees.The soup, carrot and coriander, was very nice and the sourdough bread it came with was SO tasty. Each of the pie eaters ordered the black pudding and steak pie and both enjoyed them. They serve Illy coffee, while not the best tasting if you prefer artisan, it was a well-made coffee. We got a few treats to take away as we couldn't stay for more, but it is a nice little spot for lunch if you are driving through. For four people it was £25, which was a good deal as well! MHOR Bread - not sure if it is MHOR Bread, Food, or Tearoom. It is a small bakery and restaurant our tour guide recommended on Main Street in Callander, Scotland. Orders can be made to go but we were lucky to find a place to sit. It took a tiny amount of time for the server to get to us but she was very friendly. Tea, pot pies, sandwiches, soups and desserts are served here. The Scotch pie was savory and very tasty. Sweet potato soup delicious. Black current bar very good. read more

On a trip back from Loch Lomond to Edinburg we stopped in the small town of Callander and wanted something small but satisfying for lunch (after a morning of hiking). A local recommended this place so in we went. LOVED it!!! Very attentive and efficient staff (aka, quick) who moved a long line through quickly. My wife and I each ordered a meat pie (they were small but incredibly filling...and SO tasty) along with drinks and a Garlic, Cheese & Onion "Breakapart" Bread which we took home. Goodness gracious was this ever some tasty, delicious homemade food. I'm glad I don't live near this place or I'd weigh 300 pounds!!!
