This visit started off by asking for a drink menu and having to wait about 15 minutes for just a drink menu. Mind you, there is literally NObody sitting anywhere near us. Then when our waitress finally showed back up, we had to order everything at once. We waited exactly 22 minutes before my husband just went to bar and asked for our beers. The bartender brought them out and apologized, but then forgot our frosted mugs and waters we asked for. We had finished our beers and were to the point of ordering another one, but that dream faded soon enough. We FINALLY got our appetizer 58 minutes after we sat down. Two bites into our appetizer our food shows up. BIGGEST pet peeve. Food was decent. I think my opinion was already tainted with their horrible service. I got fried bologna and it tasted like something I could make at home. We had then finished ALL of our food and our check never showed up. We finally just ended up going to the bar to pay and then just left. Don't waste your time or money. Horrible horrible service and OK food. The atmosphere isn't even that memorable. read more

Good food, but absolutely the worst service I've ever had. Three people in our party did not receive their food until 30 minutes after the rest of our party. When we explained this to the manager she laughed. On top of that we ask the waitress to split our checks when we ordered, but she wanted to wait until after and it took over thirty minutes for her to split it correctly. This is place is set up as an old southern restaurant. Very few options on menu fried fish, fried chicken strips, and burgers. They do have an appetizer menu of fried green tomatoes, fried jalapeños, fried pickles, fried ect. I was not particularly impressed with the fish and the chicken strips were good when dipped in the honey mustard or ranch because alone they lacked flavor. The fish was small and had a strong fish taste and little seasoning on the batter. I wouldn't rule it out to eat again but not a top on the list by far. read more

We pulled in on a Friday night and the parking lot was packed. We walked in and it was empty. Everyone was at the spot beside the blue rooster. Which is where we wish we would have gone. The waitress actually told us she was bad, which was beyond true. She then went on to tell us to not read the reviews on the restaurant because they are all bad. I see why now. We received cold appetizers. 3 different appetizers, all cold. Fried food isn't supposed to be cold. We asked the people beside us how theirs were, they said cold as well. The waitress never showed back up. We had to call down other waitresses to tell them. We also had to get up and go to the bar to get our drink refills. When our waitress finally showed up, she said, oh sorry, I'll take that off for you." So we sat down at 6:35 and got our food at 8:05. They messed up the order. She told us how lucky we were because they messed up our order. What she meant was, they gave us more sides, but not enough of what our entree was. Half of what we actually ordered... After not splitting up the check right, we finally just left. I highly discourage you from going to the Blue Rooster. read more

We've been here for over thirty minutes. There have only been three tables up to this point including us and it took forever to get our orders taken. The waitress and waiter were standing at the bar looking around. A large group has just come in, I can only imagine how that will affect our service now. Also, "Thank You" and other polite words seem to be lacking from the waitresses vocabulary. It's a shame, the place has good music and a great feel. What a great dining experience. The Blue Rooster is a cool, bright place on a hot summer day. My husband and I loved the relaxed feel of the staff and restaurant. The beers are icy cold - perfect after a sweaty day on the lake or golf course. And the food is wonderful. Hard to decide which we liked better, the pimento cheese sandwich or fried green tomatoes. The Mac n cheese is great too, hard to share with anyone else it's so creamy. Hit this place between lunch and dinner rush if you can for an even more relaxing experience. read more

This place has excellent food and service. We stopped in after camping at beavers bend state park and were pleasantly surprised. The waitress was extremely friendly, the service was quick, and the food tasted amazing. They have fried pies served with vanilla bean ice cream and it was delicious!!! Very Limited Menu, mostly fried!! Limited options for Gluten Free Diets, who cannot eat processed corn. The Roast Beef Poor Boy is Great, the Roast is amazing, but I think $11.95 is a bit much for just a Poor Boy Sandwich. The burger was burnt and so dry I could NOT eat it, $5.95 would not have been a bad price if it was good. (Guess this one was my fault since I cannot eat bread and asked for just meat and veggies.) My friend and I arrived about 4:30 PM on a Sunday and there were only 10-15 people in the restaurant, it was find your own table and was able to get an easy seat. I do not understand the 4 or 5 star ratings others are giving the Blue Rooster, it has so much to offer, but does not live up to any of it. I had to wait 10 minutes to pay out and had to wait longer for change. I hope this is a one time bad experience I had and not something others have often, The Blue Rooster should be a great place, but like other restaurants I have visited in Hochatown it does not deliver on the potential or even come close. Bottom line: service was poor, half of the food ordered was not eatable, men's restroom was a mess. I will have to think long and hard before I ever go back, way too many improvements needed. read more

Slow. Delicious! Quaint, friendly, pleasant. Staff sometimes have their kids working alongside them--very cool. Fried catfish was the best I've had. Went here last weekend with a group of 12 girls. The food was okay. Our waitress did not know anything about the drink menu. At the end of the meal we needed separate checks. I realize this is a pain and I have no problem being charged a reasonable gratuity. That being said, we were each charged 20%, so the waitress got a $96.00 tip for doing just the bare minimum on our table. Also, I looked at my credit card bill today and the final bill for me ended up being $52.93! My meal was $32.00, she charged me an $8.00 tip. I added no further tip. The charge should have been $44.00 I live four hours away and the chances of this getting resolved are pretty well zero. Just be aware at this place you are better off paying in cash. If not you could end up like me paying $52.93 for mediocre chicken tenders. Such a disappointment. read more

We come up to BB 6 or more times a year. We usually bring our food and cook out at the cabin. This time we brought no food deciding instead to try the local restaurants. Stephens Gap is very good. Greatful Head is OK. The Blue Rooster is terrible. Abendigos is good. The menu suggests the Blue Rooster is outstanding. It is not. The fried green tomatoes were awful. They were very thinly sliced, a no no. They were all grease. The fried pickles, same story. The order I placed for chicken strips and shrimp came with no shrimp and greasy tasteless chicken. I had to go back 3 times to get the order corrected. It is a shame that the Blue Rooster can't get it right. Its a fairly simple task to make the food on the menu. You have to work hard to screw it up like the Blue Rooster did with my family's meal. read more

We came here after the Gratefull Head Pizza Place was packed. Food was not good at all. We had a fried shrimp basket and a catfish basket with okra and mac & cheese. The mac and cheese was pretty good, but everything else was soggy....seemed like it had been microwaved. Our server disappeared and we had to go to the register to get our ticket and pay out. Would not recommend this place at all, unless you enjoy paying high dollars for microwaved food. read more

First time to eat at this restaurant and loved it! I was born in Idabel so I'm interested in every business doing well in this area. Food was great, service was excellent...our server 1st night so nice and helpful, really knew her drink options. Ate again second night as two other restaurants in that same area were closed on Monday nights and food and service was good. Our server was stressed to the max as she was only one there and did the best she could under pressure. Have eaten at Grateful Head next door which is affiliated and it too is a great place. Drinks were good. Waitress was great. Food is way overpriced for the quality. They ran out of shrimp so we didn't get what we ordered. We switched from 2 shrimp baskets to one chicken basket and one chicken and fish basket (where we didn't get the chicken). Then we were overcharged because the receipt was never changed from shrimp baskets to the correct ones. Thankfully we looked at the receipt and the waitress gladly fixed it for us and apologized. I had the unfortunate experience of visiting this establishment on Sat., Aug. 4th. My family and I were extremely disappointed in the food quality. When the food was brought to us, it was already cold (cold NOT EVEN warm a little). We ordered fish, fried okra, fried pickles and tea. The fish "fillets" looked more like scraps of fish that had been battered and fried, the okra was "fresh" from the freezer - tough and tasteless, the pickles - while having flavor and a potential to be good were cold and limp and the tea had this horrible after-taste that made it unbearable when drinking it. I would NOT NOT NOT recommend this place to even my worst enemy. On top of this, they added a tip - even though we let the waitress & waiter know that we were unsatisfied AND when I left a message on their Facebook page it was erased, twice, without even a comment or message trying to fix the situation. This also rings true to the phone message I left stating that I was unhappy would like a return call. It's been more than a day and a half and still no reply. Disorganized to the extreme. Unable to handle a seating list. Sat at table for 31 minutes and all 3 appetizers and entrees arrived on same tray. Pleased see definition of "appetizer". Fried chicken has outstanding flavor but was badly over cooked. Very dry. Fried mushrooms and pickles both outstanding. Fried shrimp is good. The BEANS, off the chart great. Boiled peal and eat shrimp was the best I've had in a long time. Decor and atmosphere nicely done. We came here as a party of 8- 4 adults, 4 kids. We had never been here before but were starving after traveling so we went ahead and ordered a couple of apps while we looked over the rest of the menu. We decided to get a family meal that served 6-8. Two of the kids were under the age of 5 so we figured that was plenty. We also asked our waitress if the appetizer that was included in the family meal could be counted toward one of the apps we'd previously ordered and she immediately said "No" and that that was a common question they'd gotten. I was shocked and asked her if she could ask a manager to override that because it seems like a simple enough problem to fix. She said "No" again. (No apology or willingness to help.) We went ahead and ordered our meal and enjoyed our apps, which were good. Our meal came out in a timely manner so no complaints there but we were shocked, in a bad way, at the amount of chicken tenders that came with our order. After we passed around the basket we each got one chicken strip a piece. We were in shock that anyone would think that meal would feed 6-8 people. We were already annoyed with our waitress so we just decided to eat and get out of there. The chicken tenders were sweet, I almost think someone mixed up the salt and sugar in the kitchen. Definitely not something I'd reorder. We finished up quickly and got our checks and that's when we realized that our waitress had rung up 1 pound of tenders instead of the 2 we had ordered. I don't know why she would think 8 people would share a meal meant for 2-4 people but she definitely put that in the computer for us. My husband pointed this out to her- that she had messed up and her entire response was "Oh." No apology or offer to make up for it. Just "Oh". I have no idea if this girl was racist, an airhead or just an awful waitress but she completely ruined our experience and we won't be returning. read more

Wasn't very impressed. The chicken tenders I ordered were very dry with no added seasoning or anything for favor. Tasted like I fried the chicken myself and if you knew me personally you would know I can't fry anything. They gave me 6 pieces priced at $8.75 with no added fries. My sister-in-law ordered a BLT and when it came out it looked like a 5 year made it. I could of went to Walmart and bought everything and it would of tasted better or the same.
