Excellent choice for casual fair in a fun family friendly environment. We were greeted before we got in the door our drinks came in a split second. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable of the area. Our shrimp baskets were served within 5 minutes. Delicately seasoned and perfectly cooked... Highly recommend the okra and the homemade ranch dressing. From the butcher block paper and crayons to the time-out chair in the back ... The servers were less than friendly. Ours took our order and brought our food but didn't check on us once. We had to go up to the bar to ask for a new drink because so much salt had fallen in while she made it that it tasted awful. It should never have been served to us as it had turned blue from so much of their blue dyed salt falling into the drink. Other than that the food was at least good. You'll enjoy just about anything you get. Unfortunately, whether it's a tall frozen or a short on the rocks, the margaritas were ridiculously overpriced at $10.50 with house tequila. After a day on the lake we decided to give this place a try after seeing it in a restaurant guide. The chicken was good but not spectacular, the sides were pretty good. The wait staff was attentive and on point however my 2 star rating comes from the catfish that was bland and lukewarm at best, the homemade tarter sauce that tasted like a sweet mash, the drink that had no hint of vodka and the lack of military/veteran discounts which the cashier informed me they decided to do away with. WOW!!! Loved everything tonight from the fried pickles, fried green tomatoes from the owner's garden (!) and of course...the FRIED PIES--WHAT?!?! Yes people, fried pies, I had the chocolate and my dad had the apricot..INSANE. We waited 15 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order (by then we knew what we wanted to eat) Our waitress was less then friendly......waited almost an hour and a half for our food. This place is one of a few in Hochatown. I heard a lot about it and expected more than I got. I ordered the fish and shrimp basket for $11.50. When it arrived there were 4 shrimp and the total shrimp mass amount in fish!!! There were 2 hush puppies roughly the size of ping pong balls and a side of pinto beans included in the order. For an extra $2.50 I also got mac and cheese. This has now brought the grand total to $14.00. Honestly there was about $8.00 worth of food here. The quality of the food was good, the quantity however, for the price, was lacking. We sat inside because the temps outside was in the low 50's and they couldn't seem to keep the doors from standing open. The service we got from our server was good on the other hand. We decided to indulge ourselves in one of their fried pies. I ordered a cherry. I thought, for $5.00 it oughta be good. When it showed up, it was roughly 2/3 the size of a Little Debbie! Called ahead to ask if they had a dog friendly patio and they said yes as long as we tie her to a tree and I asked if the tree was close enough where our pup could sit with us and they said yes. After going here this place is NOT dog friendly and shouldn't say they are. They sat us off the patio on some benches because we didn't want to leave our pup tied to a tree. After we were given menus, no one came and waited on us for drink orders or anything and the place was not busy. We sat there for 30 minutes before we got up and left! I am fine with places not being dog friendly, but don't tell me you are then leave us out on a picnic bench with no service! read more

Family vacation lunch stop and was very disappointed. Wait time is very long and service not attentive with drink refills. Then the worst part. All our entrees were cold. This was our first time in Broken Bow and we were drawn to the Blue Rooster for the friendly fun exterior of the restaurant. It's real cute inside, with very comfortable seating. We had the catfish & chicken tenders and everything was delicious! The peach fried pie was outstanding! All the food was served hot and fresh from the kitchen. I'm giving this between three and 3 1/2 stars. The usual deep-fried taste of cat fish, chicken strips, deep-fried tomatoes, deep fried squash, and hush puppies. Not overloaded with flavor. Not happy AT ALL!!! My friends and I walked into the restaurant a few minutes after 8. The hostess at the front didn't speak when we walked in. She never made eye contact with us as we spoke to her asking for a table. She stumbled over her words as she told us there were no tables available and it would be at least a 25-30 minute wait. We said that was fine. She asked for our name and number and said she would call us when a table became available. As we walked out we noticed at least 3 empty tables... We got to the car a little suspicious from what just happened. One of my friends decided to call back. She asks if there was a wait and the lady on the phone told her there was no wait. We asked if she was sure and she confirmed again that there tables available. How is that possible when not even 3 minutes ago there was a 25-30 minute wait??? Here it is 9:00 and still no phone call back. Shocking...I think not! We've had an enjoyable experience here until this happened...I guess all money is not good money. read more

On a weekend getaway and came here for lunch. It was a Saturday and around 2pm. There were only a handful of tables with patrons and one server. The server was very kind and attentive. Since this was our first time trying this place out we wanted to try a couple different things. We ordered a shrimp and fish basked and fried chicken. The fried shrimp was probably my favorite of all that we had ordered. The fried catfish was okay but the tartar and cocktail sauces were really good. The fried chicken was pretty decent. If we come back I'll likely be ordering the fried shrimp for my meal. read more

Great food and great price! We got the family order of chicken tenders for 6 of us and it was more than enough food. Our total bill was only $48 after adding two desserts. If I could give no stars or if i take away stars I definitely would. They have horrible customer service, I ordered food and it came out wrong and I was told " we can't fix it until you pay for it again." By the way I didn't get my food nor did they refund my money. When I called back Kaitlynn answered the phone and i asked if I could talk to a manager, i was told they didn't have one, the phone was given to a woman named Kendra where I was told "You can call back at 4 o'clock which is shift change" then she hung up on me. I have been eating there every week since the beginning of the summer, I have never had a problem with their service until today. I can't believe that Susie allows her employees to treat customers that way. So not only did i pay for food i did not get i paid for the worst service i have ever received. The food was good...we had the roast beef po boy, shrimp basket, grilled cheese and friend pickles. There wasn't much left of those when we were done. The beer selection is quite good too. There were a few I wished hadn't been marked off the menu though. My only gripe was the service. Our waitress did an okay job but she didn't seem very interested in serving us. It seemed like she knew the folks at the next table though, and helped them pretty quickly. I went to The Blue Rooster with my family, with iffy expectations based on the inconsistent reviews on Yelp. I'm happy to say they proved everything below 4 stars wrong! For having as little staff as it looked to have, their service was above sub par. Our waitress, who looked to be busy running around, was very attentive & got us refills & anything else we needed. I got the chicken & fish basket with fried okra & all of it was great. We also got the fried jalapeños, pickles, yellow squash, & green tomatoes, all fried to perfection. & although fried things don't hold over well to-go, I took what we didn't eat it was so good! The rest got burgers which were handmade & delicious seeing as I just had to try a bite! They also had fresh tomatoes on the burgers! So awesome! & of course we all had to get sweet tea. Once we asked for our check it took about 30 minutes for them to bring it to our table. We ended up missing our boat rental because the service was so slow.
