Came here tonight. Food is average. Not great. Not bad. Not memorable. Our food arrived at varying temperatures. You could tell some had sT waiting on the rest of the order to be completed. My burger came without fries. Kitchen was backed up so I waited 15 minutes to get the rest of my meal. They did not bring ketchup or mustard for the burger and by the time our waitress brought it I no longer needed it. My fries finally came. They were the best part of the meal. Hot. Good fries. Burger was Luke warm and not great. Kids liked their pizza. I would say that it was very good. Mac and cheese not good at all. Drinks good. Service wasn't great but the place was really busy and our waitress was working hard. Not her issue. They likely needed another person on tables. Maybe someone called in sick. read more

Wife and I saw The Blacksmith as we toured adjacent Farmers Market, and decided on a first time visit. Interesting spot, cool atmosphere. Then we met our waiter. Throughout our stay this fellow was rude and evasive, ignoring us while calling on tables adjacent to us without looking our direction. Later arriving parties were served before us. At least the food was decent and warm when another server brought it out. I always happily tip generously, having had a family member work as a server during college days. But I know terrible service when I see it. Not again. read more

While working out of town in Lavinia I stumbled upon a recommendation for The Blacksmith. I am SO glad I did! The food and service were so good we went both nights of our stay! I had a blueberry lemon drop martini to start, and my daughter and I shared the Smithy Fries. The fries are seasoned and full of flavor and the toppings are in perfect proportion. Of all the things we tried, the Mac n cheese was probably our favorite!! The blend of cheeses is just perfection. Our entrees were great, but that was the star of the show for us! I'd recommend Rafferty's. Had an ID issue with Blacksmith. I'd understand if our server hadn't taken 10 minutes to come back and say they wouldn't accept my temporary TX Driver License. I had a passport card in the car which I'd have gotten, had he been a little more prompt. Apparently there's a crime wave in Jackson where teenagers are using the IDs of us 77 yeah olds! It was about 4 pm, but the contrast was amazing. At Blacksmith there was one other occupied table. So his excuse couldn't be that they were busy. Rafferty's had a bunch of customers ever for a mid afternoon timeframe. (Brought my passport card... as I wasn't driving.). We had a great meal with friendly competent wait staff. read more

Went there again today. The menu has changed somewhat. I had a burger and fries before and they were both excellent. Today I tried the spicy chicken sandwich. The fries have changed. They taste and look exactly like the fries that are served at the Jackson Generals. They were ok. The sandwich was horrible. He first one came out looking over cooked and was about half the size of the bun. He waiter was very polite and took it back. The replacement was larger but was overlooked and tasted horrible. Really salty, not that spicy and over cooked. Very disappointed. I have my friend try it and he did not like it either. I will go back for the burger but wish they still served the fries they had before. I also never got a refill of my water. read more

My only complaint is that there is no vegan cheese for the vegan cheese burger! I brought my own cheese from Grubbs Grocery(package was unopened when I gave to them) literally walking distance away, and they were nice enough to put it on the burger for me. If you have a vegan burger, please have vegan cheese for it! A few more vegan options would be great also! Heck even a vegan cheesecake or dessert would be nice! I can't say enough good things about this place. Due to miscommunication with a bridal party, we realized we never booked a dinner for a bachelorette party until the day of. Not only were they kind enough to agree to accommodate a party of 20 with six hours notice, they assigned two waiters who provided amazing service throughout and the food was excellent. I ordered soup and a salad. Received my soup along with everyone else getting their food. We told the waiter that I never received my salad. He went to the kitchen to check and told me someone else got my salad and that it would be right out. 15 minutes later I was told again it would be coming up next. The next time he came back he told me he didn't know when my food would be available and that he would take it off the ticket. This was a salad and he pretty much told me I wasn't receiving it. We didn't receive anything for our trouble and I left without food. read more

The food is decent, on a good night, but the service is abysmally bad. Chalk it up to poor administrative practices, maybe. My credit card was double-charged, which Blacksmith took over a week to resolve. On top of that, the only time I've tried to attempt calling in a pickup order, I was placed on hold twice, each time for over ten minutes. I call a third time, let an employee know that I've been on hold for a very long time, and she proceeds to cut me off mid-sentence and put me on hold again, so I gave up and decided to never give any more of my business. For the price, you're better off spending your money elsewhere. There are plenty of decent restaurants in Jackson that are willing to provide decent service, so there's no need to waste time on this place. I've worked in the food industry for years, so I'm not one to hold one or even a few bad experiences against an entire restaurant. But this case is the exception. Do. Not. Eat. Here. read more

Where does one go after a good doctor's visit and one wants to go out and tear up the town? A great place to start the destruction is The Blacksmith. We had heard excellent things about it, but every time we got near it our car automatically turned into the nearby Rock and Dough, one of our favorites. But the lure of The Blacksmith's famous hamburger got us into the right parking spot this time. It's a pretty place with exposed brick and nice decor. There is a separate bar area, and that night a talented person was playing the keyboard, a very nice touch. We were seated at once, which was good because in the 40 minutes we were there (around 5 PM) the place filled up and there was a waiting list. Our Server was the lovely and talented Amy who was welcoming and timely. She counseled us on fries or chips (fries) and made a minor change in the toppings for Poor Bob. The salad was perfection. The hamburgers were supreme. We ordered them well done expecting to find them undercooked, but nope, they were just as we requested them. The unique fries were scrumptious and fresh out of the pan. In fact, the beer was icy cold and the hot foods hot, and all was right with the world. We just fell on our dinner and barely came up for air. Honestly, at 72 and 78, that was about all the damage could do! But the wonderfulness of the atmosphere, the music, Amy, and the massively delicious food, made this a fun and special occasion. So in spite of our pledge to "tear up the town," Jackson is still standing, and The Blacksmith survives to thrill another day. Go here! read more

I had the Grilled Steak Salad, which was delicious except there was no way that steak could be medium, which I had requested; it was well done. But the main reason I felt I needed to write a review was the CIRCUS out on the patio of servers bringing out food with NO idea who the dishes were for, much less what table! The patio was busy and we were part of a big group, but still there was SO much disorganization that it was laughable and frankly distracting. Seriously, you don't have food tickets that indicate at least what table the dishes go to?? Also two people at my table got their food after some of us where finished, and one got a different burger than what was requested. We split a ribeye grinder this afternoon. Too bad it wasnt sliced as described in the menu. It was ok but not great...they just plopped it on the chibatta roll. Cut a thin ribeye in half. I could have made a better one. Bleu cheese vinaigrette was present but we didn't taste it. I think there was supposed to be cheese on it? One of the worst experiences I've had in jackson. We sat outside and it started to rain. No one checked on us and told us to move. Our waitress yelled at another waitress for trying to help us then she sent another guy around to check on us and we never saw her again. She was rude and has absolutely no customer service skills. On top of that, our food was terrible, we got our salads, drinks, appetizers, and entrees at the same time. We had to flag someone down in the rain to get our check because our waitress wouldn't even bother coming to check on us. Safe to say, I will never be back. read more

Nice place and great environment. However the place has terrible service. They are 0-2 for us. The place seems unequipped to handle being busy. The first time our food took over an hour. We were told by the bartender it was because someone walked out and quit in the kitchen. Our food was cold and portions were very skimpy. Yesterday we tried giving it a second chance. It took 30 mins to get chips and cheese appetizer which was again over-priced and small portioned. We will not be back - was very disappointing. read more

The food is consistently good -- always a good steak and loaded smithy fries. They have a handful of fantastic servers, but at times you go in to find a drunk bartender and get your salad AFTER your steak comes out. So logistically, they need some work... don't expect excellent service. But the food tastes good and I can deal with the service knowing that I'm going to get a good meal regardless. read more

This was my second trip to The Blacksmith. Both visits have been very pleasant with excellent staff. The menu is just large enough not to spread them too thin and the bar has a decent selection. Featuring local breweries on tap is a big plus for me and they seem to rotate what is available. The food is good. It's not amazing, but my family and I have never had anything bad from here. They aren't going to blow your mind, but you can keep your expectations high from this location. Moderately priced, but competing in downtown Jackson isn't easy. Would recommend a stop in for anyone passing through and for any locals that haven't given it a chance, put "checking it out" on your to-do list. The food is good, but the service is terrible. My husband and i went on a Friday afternoon at around 4 pm, so they were not busy. We constantly had to wait around for drink refills, and our server was nowhere to be found. When he did reappear he always smelled like smoke, which was unpleasant as well. My parents went the following weekend and had the same report. The food is decent, but the service is awful! I would think that with such a nice atmosphere and pretty good food, there would be some kind of desire to try to revamp the service code. I feel this place could really thrive in Jackson if the service were addressed. read more
