As a cat lover, I had to check out this place - who can resist a place with a cat prominently featured on its sign! Conveniently located near the ferry terminal and also near the Hyannis Harbor hotel where we were staying for a weekend getaway to the Cape a few weekends ago. We walked down the street, checked out the menu which looked good. It was a bit hot so we decided to sit inside however it felt a bit dark inside so we went back outside and were seated under the covered area outside. The menu is quite extensive so no trouble finding something you like. We ordered the crab cake appetizer which was good - I prefer more lump crab meat and this was all minced together but still good. For my main dish I ordered the salmon which came with roasted potatoes and veggies with a light sauce. It was nice - salmon was tender, potatoes were crispy and tender - good portion size. Hubs ordered the dayboat cod and he enjoyed it. Servers were nice and they even took our photo on request. It's a popular spot you can tell - both inside and outside were busy. Was nice sitting outside- they have these planters on the side which make for nice outdoor decor. Overall a good experience!

Food was decent but service was pretty slow / inattentive. Outdoor seating wasn't the most comfortable and didn't really even get a great view of the water. Overall okay but not the best.

We went here over Memorial Day weekend. We were greeted by the host and shown to our table immediately. Our server Andrew was very accommodating. My daughter and I shared the crab cake salad and they gave us two different dressings since our taste isn't the same and we shared the lobster quesadillas. Both were my favorite meals of our whole trip. We sat outside and enjoyed the scenery looking out over the water and docks.

View from the dining room and outdoor seating area. Across from an active harbor.

Patricia was our server, excellent Service. We picked this restaurant for its location and reviews on the clam chowder. Both good. Nice view. Good food.

6 of us came here for a late lunch as we liked the name and were told it had good food. We called and spoke with Scott, the manager, to make reservations and had to change them a couple times due to bad traffic getting there, and he was super accommodating. I had a turkey wrap with no bacon and it was really good and my wife had a Side Caesar salad that she really enjoyed. Our 4 friends also enjoyed their meals. We are glad we went there and should we be in Hyannis again just might come back

We sat outside and had a beautiful view of the harbor, such a great setting! The only downside was that one of us ended up sitting directly in the sun and started to feel the heat pretty quickly, so keep that in mind if you go on a sunny day. We started with a cup of chowder and now I see why it's award-winning: creamy, flavorful, and absolutely a must-try. The giant lobster roll was good, not great. It was fresh and generously portioned, but the flavor fell a little flat for me. If you're not already a lobster roll lover, you could probably skip this one. The fried seafood platter was huge, and our favorites were the shrimp and clams. If you love a variety of fried seafood, this is definitely the dish to get!

Blackened Swordfish

This was our first experience at The Black Cat Tavern and if we were staying in the area longer, we would definitely return. We were a party of 6. We sat in the heated patio which was fine for us (2 adults and 4 teenagers). Our server Alex was great! He made us feel at home right from the beginning. He explained the specials and answered our questions we had on the menu items. His descriptions of the food were so vivid, we wanted to try everything. We settled on a variety of items from the clam chowder to fish tacos. I personally started with clam chowder then the blackened swordfish which was excelllent. We never felt rushed and Alex checked on us a few times to make sure we were enjoying our food. I honestly can't recommend this restaurant enough.

Tried Black Cat Tavern in Hyannis while exploring Cape Cod. It's right near the port, so it's a bit touristy, but still worth checking out. We had the Hyport Burger, baked scallops, and a bowl of clam chowder. All were really good the chowder especially. Creamy and flavorful, definitely one of the better ones I've had on this trip. The burger was juicy and came with all the right toppings. The scallops were baked just right, not dry at all. Portions here are huge. We didn't finish everything except for the chowder that was gone fast. The place has a chill, nautical vibe and there was a live singer the night we went, which added to the mood. Our server, Katie, was super nice and helpful. Prices are on the higher side, but expected for the area. Would I come back? Maybe but I'd also want to try the other restaurants nearby next time. Rating: 3/5 Check out their other dishes too, I saw stuff like lobster roll, fried clams, and baked stuffed shrimp on the menu that looked pretty good

Busy place atmosphere very nice. Waitress was amazing and very attentive. Clam chowder was so yummy. But the watermelon feta salad omg so good.. fisherman's platter was so good lightly battered which is a plus shoe string fries brought back childhood memories. A little pricey but it's vacation!

We really enjoyed our visit to The Black Cat Tavern. The location is great, right on the water with a lovely atmosphere. The lobster roll was massive and absolutely delicious. We also ordered the seafood tower, and everything on it was fresh and tasty, except for the tuna, which wasn't our favorite. Service was decent, our waitress was a bit scattered at times, but nothing that took away from the overall experience. The only real downside was the small table we were given. With the amount of food we ordered, it felt cramped and a bit awkward.

Banana Cream Colada
Melissa T.

My family and I dined here during our recent Cape Cod trip. The location was within walking distance from our hotel. We were seated on the front deck, but still had views of the water across the street. I ordered the Fried Cod Melt with French fries, and the Banana Cream Colada. The food was good - the filet of fish was big and crispy, while the colada was refreshing and wasn't too strong. If we stay in Hyannis again we will be back!

Mudslides

My friend and I came here with no reservation for dinner and we were seated right away. We didn't realize we were in the harbor shack which is separate from the full restaurant haha. It was hard to tell from the way we walked in from the parking lot on the side, we just walked up the first set of stairs we saw with a hostess stand and thought that was the full restaurant. The tavern part is next door but we enjoyed the shack! We had delicious mudslides and I really liked my sandwich! I was grateful they had gluten free bread!

My first glass of vinho verde wine was served at room temperature (the second was fine), and the side plate I was given was crusted with dried food residue. I also watched an employee behind the bar wipe her nose with her hand and then continue slicing citrus barehanded. The chicken empanadas were good but not particularly special. We also had one of the small pizzas, which was the best thing of the night, crispy and flavorful (with a little char at the edges, which we like). The decor is a little bananas (different shades of green between the walls, the napkins, the barstools, and the banquettes; five kinds of lighting fixtures; lots of sound and lighting items with exposed, hasty-looking wiring). The bathroom door doesn't really close and lock properly. And the restaurant is really loud, even half full. The writing on the menu, about family members and special recipes, tells me that there's pride here and real care about making a good restaurant. However, without the attention to detail (particularly cleanliness and hygiene!), that's kind of moot. Three stars instead of two here because the pizza was good and the staff obviously care about customers.

This place is a foodies dream. We were seated in a corner high top table with a window view to see all the people walking by. Our waitress was Brenna. I just did the tourist thing and read the menu. Walked in. The hostess was super sweet, and I could kinda see the kitchen from my seat across the bar - looked clean. First impressions being what they are SUPER old school AITALIAN (italoamericano) - chuchky, dark colors, chinzy stuff, old school. The smell of garlic was potent (in the very best way). I went for a lunch menu item. Included a small salad with a balsamic vinagrette (not bad, probably bottled but not bad). My salad had a slice of cucumber that I probably should have left on the plate... it was almost a goner but not there, so I just ate it! LOL! The sandwich - a thinly sliced piece of eggplant parm that was sadly undersalted, no flavor, but the lovely pesto, a goey chunk of fresh moz and perfectly grilled and juicy chicken breast. Unfortunately the bread was nice and fluffy but it could've been toasted a little bit more. In general the food was almost 100% perfection, not quite but it was tasty and service lovely. I will definitely go back. Old school and all (and when I need a solid fancy dinner, RUN over to Leonessa!)
