Homemade ice tea.
Sarah B.

Oh my god. I've found it. The best flippin' burgers in Zurich. I came here for lunch with a friend and got the Classic. It was juicy, delicious, and the texture was just perfect. Definitely an A+. I thought the fries were all right - good, but nothing to write home about. (Maybe it's just 'cause everyone's been talking it up?) The homemade condiments were pretty good too, though I thought the ketchup had a bit of a strange aftertaste. The homemade iced tea was just okay; next time, I'll have to try the lemonade (I still can't believe I passed up lemonade for iced tea. Oh well). I loved the little mason jars the drinks were served in, though. Anyway, the 5-star rating is DEFINITELY for the burger. I'll have to come by for dinner sometime so I can try another burger!

BBQ burger

Following Simon's recommendation, we tried The Bite and I can say this was the best burger I ever had! The meat was great, very soft, juicy and fresh. I got the BBQ burger and my boyfriend got the Classic - both were fantastic. I liked the BBQ one best - it adds a very nice BBQ flavor to the meat. The drinks were served in jars and the table on which we ate was actually a door arranged horizontally. The atmosphere was very, very cool, service was super friendly, waiters had nice and funny Christmasy sweaters, with shining lights on them, lighting up as Christmas trees. We came in on a Thursday night at 8 pm and the place was full. One of the waiters was nice enough go get our phone number and called us as soon as they had a free table - that took 15 minutes. We will definitely come back. Remember: best burgers and great atmosphere. So, GO TRY IT! Minor downsides however: very poor phone reception inside (no 3G signal) and we got a wrong bill at the end (one extra burger was added to it). I understand that's human error often involved in it, but it's still annoying when this happens...

Vegetarian burger - California (portobello mushroom) w a side of salad.

As a mixed citizen of the world living in Zurich for a while, I can tell you I know ma burgers being someone from the States... whether it's beef, chicken, fish or even veggie burgers. Yes, everyone raves about how this is the place in town for the real deal. Yeah, I tell you that too. If you must eat a burger in Zurich it has to be here. The menu, as the restaurant deems, is Swiss Canadian influenced. The wait staff here all speak very good English too, in fact I mistaken a Swiss server for being Canadian! If you will die without eating meat, then please go for the burger here! The patty here is the real deal, and you won't be singing like the Wendy's commercial "Where's the Beef" (guess only folks from the US will get this). You can't go wrong, and either the freshly cut fries or the salad is superb! The bun is great. You can tell these guys care about every little ingredient that goes into your meal. If you are a "flexitarian" like me - and are conscientious of the ecological impacts of consuming cows and health choices of a veggie lifestyle, there are excellent veggie substitutes here! (1) Portobello mushroom - get this with the "Californian", our server recommended this and the blend of avocado and goat cheese is scrumptious (2) Halloumi cheese. Another plus are the beverages: There are plenty of beer choices including various US IPAs and the beer menu is shown from least to most strong in taste. Ask the servers - they all seem to be very knowledgable and helpful! The cost of each burger is in the high 20s (round up 30), a few francs more than what some people may expect, but keep in mind this is b/c the burgers come with a side and is very good quality. Don't forget you are in Zurich!

Animal fries (really delicious!)

It was great! The food was really good and the staff was very pleasant. The sauces are delicious and the portions are big.

The Classic

The best burger in Zurich (and boy have I tested a few!). Secret is simplicity, hand-made juicy beef patty cooked to perfection (medium rare) and that God-awesome bun (not the store bought crap). Now let's get on with the toppings and sauces. With the Classic, the Bite is sitting on a winner anyway with the aioli. There are three haus-tweaked sauces that are sitting pretty on each table - the classic (yup) tomato, BBQ, and thousand island. Lunch set starts from CHF19 for the Classic, and you get to choose between a huge bowl of salad or Zurich's top 5 Pomme Frites (you know which one I'm leaning towards). Find me a better lunch deal and I'll still be here... Every so often, The Bite comes up with a seasonal burger which they post on FB so keep your eyes peeled!

This review is for the vegetarian version: We were lucky enough to get a reservation for Thursday night (4 people). It was very warm and pretty loud inside but everybody was very friendly. We were seated right away and the waiter presented the specials. I didn't feel like meat so I ordered the BBQ burger with veggie option (portobello mushroom). Unfortunately the bread was very soggy from the mushroom and there was too much cheese in it. Together with the sauce (that probably included mayo without saying) and the slippery mushroom it was very messy to eat. The ingredients are fresh and I really liked how they presented the burger. But 24CHF for a vegetarian burger ("just" a portobello mushroom and no meat) is even for Zurich pretty expensive (I ordered it without a side so it was 27CHF - 3CHF). Next time I would definitely go with the beef.

Best burger in town, bar none. So juicy and the bun to meat ratio was not bad, although I could've used some more meat. Very flavorful and the fries were great. The side salad is not pathetic the way they usually are at restaurants in this city, it's lush and green and packed with tomatoes and cucumbers and lightly dressed. The staff is very sweet and friendly. Reservations are definitely necessary. The ambience and decor are very cool and I love this neighborhood. It's grittier younger hipper Zurich.

We really enjoyed The Bite. The burgers were well presented and the brioche bun added a nice touch.

Beer: This place gets five stars because it is the only place in town (well at least as I write…read morethis) that carries a wide variety (they have 20 lines available) of independent craft beer on tap that updates it's availability and ever changing offerings to an IT system that is linked to their electronic menu and on-line menu. Service: Let's not forget the people are pretty and the food are pretty decent. Starting with service, you know that can go wrong very easily in Zurich. In here, it is so smooth and uncomplicated because you need to go up and order your drinks and food at the counter. You get a number assigned to you and your party, so that your bill is allocated to that number, which makes ordering pretty easy because every time you reorder you just need to bring the plastic card with your number or just remember it so they can bill it to your number. At the end of your meal when you pay they will just ring up your check based on the number you have. Food: The food is not too shabby here. They have various burgers, from beef, fish, chicken to veggie and all are pretty good on a nicely toasted burger bun. Once I skipped the meal (eating is cheating) and had a nice order of fries. Location/Ambiance: it is very close to the University of Zurich but the prices are higher than average beer bc you are getting craft beer on TAP. So it's not filled with students, it's a mixed crowd. However you will still find one or two groups of students that come here and take advantage of the awesome board games they offer here over a nice glass of craft beer. Covid: During Covid times the tables are not that close together and they do not encourage you to hang around the bar area. Still I felt safe to dine here during Covid times.

They have a great list of beers on a screen (it's a digital screen right?) noting the locations and more info about them. Many of the prices are pretty steep, but, I really enjoy the ambiance and the food, and the beer! Last time I came they had an Ethiopian pop-up, or whatever you call it. They were serving Ethiopian food for a limited amount of time. I ordered the veggie platter with different curries and it was really delicious, and so pretty too! I always have a great time here. They also have seating outside.

It was busy, and the food absolutely lived up to the hype. The veal cordon bleu was to die for, and the potato salad was honestly the best I had on the entire trip. One funny thing: the water was more expensive than the beer and soda, but that seems pretty typical in Switzerland! The restaurant itself has so much history and great atmosphere. The inside was a little loud for us, so we sat outside, which we really enjoyed. Just be prepared to share a table with another couple if you sit outside -- that's pretty common in Switzerland. I'd absolutely come back. Great food, historic charm, and such a fun local experience.

The building used to store weapons and ammunition, so it has an appropriate name as zeughaus means "storage warehouse". We didn't have a reservation but went right when the restaurant opened and were seated immediately. The wienerschnitzel was a thin veal cutlet that was good; we got ours with potato salad which is a popular dish and I enjoyed. The alpine macaroni is a local delicacy so I wanted to try it; it was a little more liquidy than others that I'm normally accustomed to but I still liked it. I also liked the sweet onions paired with it. It's centrally located around many popular attractions in Zurich making it a good spot to check out for lunch and dinner. Beware it can be very busy and you might have to share a table with others, and when it's busy it might help to have a reservation or you might wait a while for a seat.

Now they opened their first place on the old continent and it's in Zurich - hooray! Since today I know that we're lucky bastards. First they got me with their West-Side beef burger. Decent minced meat. Not a finely grinded, perfectly shaped patty but the real deal (to my taste). Topped with an orchestra of flavours: the spicy chipotle sauce, the juicy tomato salsa, the ripe avocado, the fresh cilantro... I was in burger heaven. Not to forget the fries. It would be an insult to call them sides. First of all, how many places offer sweet potato fries? Maybe because you have to know how to prepare them. For example with a sheer panade to make them crispy outside and a slightly smoky flavour. But, the original potato fries are outstanding, too. Crispy, well-seasoned with an own mix of spices and extra yummy with a dip of the home-made ketchup. The menu is a great bargain: for CHF 6.90 extra to the burger you get an uber side plus a tasty soft drink with all natural ingredients.

That being said, this place is a cute mix of nostalgia with a modern twist. There are three burger options for beef eaters - I went with the middle one, Swiss Angus beef single patty ($22) which is topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. The pickles are more like cucumbers that are less marinated but still tasty. Cheese and other toppings are extra. I added Swiss cheese because why not? Also went with the garlic mayonnaise. Let me say this was one of the tastiest burgers. The quality of meat and cheese was phenomenal. I could taste the difference between an average fast food burger and this premium dish. The fries were also good (another add-on cost), thick cut and freshly fried. They have an American beer selection from Brooklyn Brewery. I also saw them prepare a crazy fancy shake. It will not be a thick shake like you find in the US, more of a chocolate milk with toppings. I opted to skip it after my large meal. Ambiance is nice, on the street corner, open with a good view of passerby's. Service is quick for Europe and moderately friendly, depending on your server.
