I'm American and I've had In-N-Out Burger so of course I'm a little skeptical when I see animal style French fries. First....you must make a reservation!! Unless you don't mind eating outside in the dark with all the smokers. Second....expect to wait a long time. This isn't a fast food restaurant so grab a beer and wait 45/60 min to get your food. Third... Switzerland is very expensive so this restaurant is no different. 2 burgers, 2 alcoholic drinks, and French fries were 98CHF which is pretty much 100 bucks. They have 3 sauces for you to try. Ketchup- Tasted like marinara sauce. BBQ- Tasted like smokey ketchup. 1000 island. Tasted normal. Burgers were great. They were juicy and delicious. Animal Style French Fries were a good try. Def not like the original but so far from home it was a nice find. This restaurant isn't for Americans. Way too expensive for what we eat all the time but I compare this place to the Melting Pot in the US. That place is so overpriced but it's amazing to get your cheese fondue fix. I can't imagine Swiss people coming to the US and eating at our expensive version of cheese fondue. Service was ok. It was super busy so can't really complain but I could tell our waiter was super annoyed with our audacity of showing up , with no reservation, and willingness to wait. And for some dumb reason you can't order "The Threesome" (or Hattrick) with a group of 5 people. 4 apparently is ok but we had 5. Cannot imagine why if 3 people order the same thing it's an inconvenience for the restaurant but DON'T DO IT or again your waiter will show his annoyance. read more

Oh my god. I've found it. The best flippin' burgers in Zurich. I came here for lunch with a friend and got the Classic. It was juicy, delicious, and the texture was just perfect. Definitely an A+. I thought the fries were all right - good, but nothing to write home about. (Maybe it's just 'cause everyone's been talking it up?) The homemade condiments were pretty good too, though I thought the ketchup had a bit of a strange aftertaste. The homemade iced tea was just okay; next time, I'll have to try the lemonade (I still can't believe I passed up lemonade for iced tea. Oh well). I loved the little mason jars the drinks were served in, though. Anyway, the 5-star rating is DEFINITELY for the burger. The burgers are just excellent, service is top-notch, atmosphere is great, the bite is a shining example of what a burger restaurant can be. Located off the happening Langstrasse, the bite is at a prime location as a spot to hit before a night on the town. Reservations can be slightly difficult to come by, especially on weekends, as the place fills up fast. I believe in summer they also offer al fresco dining which probably increases the space available. The guacamole is excellent, and the pesto which is served on top of it is a genius idea! The animal fries (fries with thousand island dressing and melted cheese) are excellent, if rather rich and heavy. Coming to the burgers themselves, the bite offers a fixed (rather limited) menu, with one limited, specialty burger. Meat is tasty, juicy, grilled to order, the bacon is thick cut and delicious. My personal recommendation is the Manchego burger, served with manchego cheese (duh!) and a delicious romesco sauce, this burger is to die for! read more

As a mixed citizen of the world living in Zurich for a while, I can tell you I know ma burgers being someone from the States... whether it's beef, chicken, fish or even veggie burgers. Yes, everyone raves about how this is the place in town for the real deal. Yeah, I tell you that too. If you must eat a burger in Zurich it has to be here. The menu, as the restaurant deems, is Swiss Canadian influenced. The wait staff here all speak very good English too, in fact I mistaken a Swiss server for being Canadian! If you will die without eating meat, then please go for the burger here! The patty here is the real deal, and you won't be singing like the Wendy's commercial "Where's the Beef" (guess only folks from the US will get this). You can't go wrong, and either the freshly cut fries or the salad is superb! The bun is great. You can tell these guys care about every little ingredient that goes into your meal. If you are a "flexitarian" like me - and are conscientious of the ecological impacts of consuming cows and health choices of a veggie lifestyle, there are excellent veggie substitutes here! (1) Portobello mushroom - get this with the "Californian", our server recommended this and the blend of avocado and goat cheese is scrumptious (2) Halloumi cheese. Another plus are the beverages: There are plenty of beer choices including various US IPAs and the beer menu is shown from least to most strong in taste. Ask the servers - they all seem to be very knowledgable and helpful! The cost of each burger is in the high 20s (round up 30), a few francs more than what some people may expect, but keep in mind this is b/c the burgers come with a side and is very good quality. Following Simon's recommendation, we tried The Bite and I can say this was the best burger I ever had! The meat was great, very soft, juicy and fresh. I got the BBQ burger and my boyfriend got the Classic - both were fantastic. I liked the BBQ one best - it adds a very nice BBQ flavor to the meat. The drinks were served in jars and the table on which we ate was actually a door arranged horizontally. The atmosphere was very, very cool, service was super friendly, waiters had nice and funny Christmasy sweaters, with shining lights on them, lighting up as Christmas trees. We came in on a Thursday night at 8 pm and the place was full. One of the waiters was nice enough go get our phone number and called us as soon as they had a free table - that took 15 minutes. We will definitely come back. Remember: best burgers and great atmosphere. So, GO TRY IT! Minor downsides however: very poor phone reception inside (no 3G signal) and we got a wrong bill at the end (one extra burger was added to it). The best burger in Zurich (and boy have I tested a few!). Secret is simplicity, hand-made juicy beef patty cooked to perfection (medium rare) and that God-awesome bun (not the store bought crap). Now let's get on with the toppings and sauces. With the Classic, the Bite is sitting on a winner anyway with the aioli. There are three haus-tweaked sauces that are sitting pretty on each table - the classic (yup) tomato, BBQ, and thousand island. Lunch set starts from CHF19 for the Classic, and you get to choose between a huge bowl of salad or Zurich's top 5 Pomme Frites (you know which one I'm leaning towards). This review is for the vegetarian version: We were lucky enough to get a reservation for Thursday night (4 people). It was very warm and pretty loud inside but everybody was very friendly. We were seated right away and the waiter presented the specials. I didn't feel like meat so I ordered the BBQ burger with veggie option (portobello mushroom). Unfortunately the bread was very soggy from the mushroom and there was too much cheese in it. Together with the sauce (that probably included mayo without saying) and the slippery mushroom it was very messy to eat. The ingredients are fresh and I really liked how they presented the burger. But 24CHF for a vegetarian burger ("just" a portobello mushroom and no meat) is even for Zurich pretty expensive (I ordered it without a side so it was 27CHF - 3CHF). The Bite was more of an experience than a restaurant, in a way. Saturday night at eight pm sees this: dimmed lights, a DJ, Basquiat-like, framed graffiti art on the walls and men with beards. All I really wanted was a damn fine burger. I ordered the Classic, and, while it was good, I can't say it was great. Helvti Diner does it better. The Classic, with aoili, roasted shallots and cheddar tasted like a cheeseburger with no bells and whistles. If there had been aioli included, then my taste buds missed it. While the lighting put a nice glow to the place, it meant that no one at the table could discern which unlabeled, small glass jar held the meager portion of house-made ketchup (that tasted like pasta sauce) or the jar holding the equally small amount of bbq sauce. We all took to putting the jars directly under our noses to try and smell our way to success. The DJ is to be commended for playing a smart set of instrumental music that complimented The Bite's vibe, but the volume at which the music was played meant that one had to practically shout to be heard. It was either that or be content with only chatting to the person on one's immediate left or right. Good bits: the menu features bottled Anchor Porter, Sierra Pale Ale and Brooklyn Lager. Holy shiz! The real deal has finally arrived. There is absolutely no reason to go anywhere else for a burger. A new addiction. When it arrived at my table it stared at me, sauce dripping from its buns. I muttered, "I'm burning for you!" Then I reached for it, my fingers gripped the buttery, spongy buns and the romesco sauce squirted out on my chin. Oh, our passion was palpable. Zurich just became an even better place to be! As an American, I'm automatically a burger connoisseur. I love the simplicity of the menu in terms of quantity of items and, likewise, the creativity and perfect execution: quality over quantity. The buns are what I have always missed - spongebread - simply a vehicle for the good stuff in between. And good stuff it is! The meat, being of the more fatty, flavorful parts of the cow is juicy and rich. The cheese - manchego in this case, generous and sheepy. Romesco, one of my favorite sauces was rich and nutty. It squirted every which way (how I like it). The animal fries were killer. The salad was simple with fresh greens and a light, tangy vinaigrette. The soup of the day - golden beet - was piping hot and a perfect starter on a cold autumn eve. Brooklyn Lager is the perfect accompaniment to a burger of this stature. The burgers are fine, but they're not anything special. I appreciate the animal fries, but they don't hold a candle the original US animal fries (they need more sauce and such, a drizzle doesn't do it). If the burgers were a reasonable prices, even by Zürich standards, we might stop back by, but for the size and flavor of the burger, the price is definitely not worth it. The burgers here are tasty, the ambience is cool. They offer several beers, and the sides'll make you drool. It's super duper busy, so I'm glad we reserved before- we got the last free table, and sat by the door. The service was OK- the dudes were always running. The side salad is not pathetic the way they usually are at restaurants in this city, it's lush and green and packed with tomatoes and cucumbers and lightly dressed. I went to The Bite with some work colleagues after hearing a great deal of fanfare about the place. Eating in the trendy burger joint I was very pleased with the quality of produce, size of portions, friendliness of staff and selection of beer. For anyone looking for burgers to clog their arteries and give them a heart attack this is the place for you - giant triple burgers and fries with cheese. If that's not your thing you can opt for regular and delicious burgers with a salad. Look out for a selection of Canadian beers as well. Simply a wonderful little place with attentive staff and lots of guests. Make a reservation. If you are a fan of the burger, The Bite is a must stop on your visit to Zurich. After doing fondue and roesti and other Swiss dishes, this place is heaven sent! Not only are you to be treated to a craft burger on the best bun to ever be paired with the beef, they have superior craft cocktails; highly recommend the bourbon concoction. Very friendly, English-speaking staff are accommodating to those without reservations, but I strongly recommend them if dining after 7:30 pm. Oh, I can't believe I haven't written this review yet, considering that we've been here 4 times already! What I have to say is that their burgers are amazing. Best in Zurich. Period. However, some other things that I've noticed -some good, some bad- while there are worth yelping over also. What I like are, next to the burgers, is the atmosphere, the guys running the restaurant, the animal fries and the jars for glasses. These all contribute to the well deserved 4 stars rating. What I don't like and have encountered every time of the four times that I've been there is that they are almost always hopelessly overwhelmed by parties larger than 5 (you can't order the Hattrick, for example, because their grill is too small). Also, desserts are not their forte. I could go into the details, but let me just summarize that I haven't had one dessert item that I liked and I've tried them all. Finally, I really don't care for their choice and amplitude of music, but, hey, tastes can differ. Oh how I love The Bite. The food is always nothing short of excellent and they make a pretty great cocktail too (though I usually go for the homemade lemonade because, again, it's SO GOOD). I also like the hipstery interior (even though they sometimes have *cough* questionable *cough* art on the wall). All this wouldn't be so extraordinary yet if it weren't for the excellent staff. Despite it being reeeeally busy every time we go there (Friday or Saturday night usually), the 'head waiter' recognized us the second time we went (two weeks after the first visit)! They always have people queueing for a table but the waiting is handled very professionally and once you're seated they couldn't do more for you. We once had an ingredient missing in a burger and our waiter all but ran to the kitchen to inquire. Turns out they had run out of it. They apologized several times and asked what we'd like to make up for it (a free lemonade ;-)). Can't wait to go back here! read more

I'm not as overwhelmed as others. I've been to many different places that specialize in burgers and (if I may be extremely picky) this place doesn't really stand out. The burgers are of good quality, but in my case a little bit too drenched in sauce. I tried the animal fries which was basically just regular french fries in a pool of cheese. This took away crispiness and left me a little bit sad because I had to eat them with a fork. Don't get me wrong, this is 50 times better than any McDonalds you've ever been to, but these days many restaurants aspire to make the perfect burger and, according to me, it is not made here. read more

Have been back several times now and still nothing short of a 5-star venue. My last time back was with a reservation for two at 9pm on the Friday before Christmas break. Despite our reservation, we actually had to wait about 15-20 minutes before our table was ready, but it was understandable given just how busy it was. During our wait at least 4 - 5 groups of 2 - 4 people were being turned away because they had no reservation. It also helped our moods that the waiter brought over beers for us while we wait that we weren't billed for. Atmosphere was great again, a bit on the louder side, but conversation was still very well possible. Burgers were once more delicious. They are sticking to only giving out limited amounts of the BBQ / Ketchup / Thousand Island sauces (all homemade) that come with the burgers, but they were happy to refill them on request. Meat has been nothing short of phenomenal each time and just overall a great burger, not to mention the fries that were great each time! Looking forward to many more visits in 2014.. read more

Clearly my new favorite burger place in Zurich! I've been observing all those burger joints popping up in recent years and was happy to see the quality improving. No more sausage-like paddies but proper, beefy, juicy burgers. And now we have a winner: The bite Their meat is superb in quality and flavor, the bread in a soft but stable constancy which I've not seen anywhere else. The burger creations all sound unique and so tempting that I'll have to come back a number of times anyway. So far I've tried The Wildcard (Asiago cheese, radish and Miso-Redwine sauce) and had a bite of The Californian (Guacamole (home made), Goat cheese and Coriander Pesto) - both were really yummy! They also offer a nice selection of North American beers. The location is cozy fits perfectly into the vibrant urban surrounding. For dinner, reservation is recommended, lunches are more flexible (so far) Oh and: try the Watermeldon Salad! read more
