If you live a good funky dark dive bar with Norm & Cliff regulars...this is the joint. People…read moreintroduce themselves, tell you what's good and are just sauced enough to be unusually loud but not obnoxious. I love this place. Came in to grab a bite and a drink before a show. Old fashioned made by Patrick the bartender, was lovely. Smooth, mild and so easy to drink. Music was a little blues, a little rock. Nothing to well known that it would alienate people. They have a small tv above the bar that plays VHS tapes--kitsch vibe. Robin Hood (Disney version with foxes) was playing when I got there. Food is small bites, likely made for folks to eat quick and bolt. I tried the deviled eggs du jour--something "Philly" which was smoked salmon, cream cheese, hot mustard (I think), pickled onions, pickled cucumber and some Asian sweet sauce. All of the flavors complement each other. Super yummy. Also got the house made potato chips. It came with scratch made onion dip and a little dish of pimento cheese (made from scratch) topped with that sweet Asian sauce. I did not love the sweet sauce on the pimento cheese. No sweet please on the pimento. Onion dip was nice since you could tell the onions were not rehydrated from a box. Needed a little more flavor...salt, pepper, any kind of spice? I also ordered an espresso martini. Too sweet for my taste. Maybe I was on a savory kick and was judgmental of sweet things? All in all--4 stars because of the vibe. Loved this funky place and all the patrons.

While looking for a bite and a drink before heading to Fair Park for a show some friends had heard…read moreabout and suggested RAYO and I am happy to report it slaps on every single level. Walk in and make your way to the bar to place your order (re: that is both drinks and food). They not only have a full bar but also a great selection of craft and local beers. I kicked things off with an IPA and we placed our food orders. This place has a kitchen that is rockin' and has several vegetarian options that are not your standard veggie food. I couldn't decide so I ordered too much: Tofu Ruben, The McFib, and a side of fries "for the table" but lets be real-I ate almost all of them. After a brief wait my order came out and everything was fresh and steaming hot. I enjoyed everything I had to eat but no lies, their McFib was the star of the show and next time I'm going to order two or three of those suckers (side note: sliders come out as a single item per order). Service was great! The bartenders were very knowledgeable and happy to offer up suggestions and you can tell by the quality that the kitchen takes pride in what it does. Bonus was how great the place was decorated, we went mid-Dec and the whole place was decked out in festive holiday garb. Parking is mostly street parking or paid lots, that is: no private parking lot that I am aware of and the location being directly across from Fair Park means that from here on out this will be our go-to spot to grab a drink and dinner before heading to see any of the shows at the Music Hall at Fair Park. Cheers and see ya again real soon.

Came to celebrate a Birthday last night. We arrived early and didn't know a soul. Within minutes…read morethe owner, bartender and patrons invited us in. Don't let the dive bar ambiance scare you it's definitely the people and the vibe that keeps you here. We witnessed people from all walks of life from Tesla to bicycle singing and sharing moments that can't be duplicated. Had a blast and can't wait to go back!

This place should be kept a secret and limited to invitees only. I almost didn't want to review…read morefor that reason as I'm not sure everyone should check it out. It has a special, magical charm of the perfect dive bar. I'm ignoring my previous trip there as, well, I should not have brought that person to this place. This place is not for pretentious people. Thus I was at home at this spot. It looks camouflaged by plain wrapping with a boring exterior. Open the door and it is a world of more things to explore than you have time to. You are treated like family as a stranger. Be ready to be among people who want to know you. I guess I fit as some there knew my friends from other dive bars. I never realized how small the Dallas Dive bar world was. I have some cool friends. The music is good on the video jukebox. The tears came to my eyes as a few post 9/11 patriotic songs were played (I bleed Army green and so did some that didn't return home to their moms intact.) Glad none there saw my eyes or noticed my toast to my memories. The couple dancing on the next song made me feel more at home. Good thing a good 2 step or waltz never played or I might have had to find a partner. The decor is somewhat Green Bay Packer-ish. Okay, a lot of Green Bay love in the decor. Heh, yes, I still carry a grudge from the 1967 Ice Bowl as a life long Cowboy fan should! But, I respect a bar owner who has actual stock in his/her team and displays it proudly! So that adds another star or would that be Starr? The patrons make this one special. This is one of the great dive bars!
