A super cute spot to enjoy an outdoor breakfast, especially if you are staying at La Tourelle! The menu options are pretty hearty, and most of the menu options are part of the full brunch which is around 20 bucks and comes with an entree and various entree additions like fruit, pastries, coffee, etc. That's a lot for brekkie, so if you are feeling a lighter route they offer some a la carte sandwiches and sides. You can build your own breakfast sandwich with choice of egg style, cheese, meat and bread. They have a few locally made sourdough options that are absolutely stellar. The sandwich was delicious, but I do wish that the menu had some more light options. Iced coffee was strong and there's liquor onsite which means you can order a mimosa to pair with brunch. We very much enjoyed our overall experience at the Bistro. The atmosphere is country style with the Bistro located in an old farmhouse surrounded by flowers and nicely decorated. Speaking of the decor, the bathroom on the first floor featured a beautiful antique sink ornamented with depictions of various birds. Very cool! The full breakfast is a nice deal at 18.95 for coffee, fruit juice, fruit cup, pastry and entree. My friend enjoyed the eggs Benedict and I enjoyed a waffle. The waffle was a little cold when it arrived at the table, but not a huge deal since I had coffee. Service was a bit slow and the server really seemed like she did not want to be there or was having a really bad day which was honestly the only thing supremely detracting from our experience. This place could easily merit 5 stars with better service. Walk around before or after you meal to take in some of the exterior including the sunflowers, ducks and mural. read more

My wife and I were guests at the hotel and decided to try breakfast here on a Saturday morning. We liked it so much we went back on Sunday morning. The bistro is located approximately 30 yards from the front entrance of the hotel. The bistro is in an old house possibly from the 1800's. The decor and fireplace add to the ambiance. There are multiple dining rooms as well as a front porch to dine. On Saturday, my wife and I had the waffles with blueberries, a side fruit salad, and I had turkey sausage. The waffles consisted of three small hexagon shapes topped with just enough blueberries. The waffles were served hot and fresh and had a nice sweet taste to it. It wasn't your standard Belgium waffle but creative. Turkey sausage consisted of three links cooked fresh. The fruit salad was large and definitely fresh. As coffee snobs, I would say the coffee was excellent. On Sunday, my wife ordered the avocado toast with eggs and potatoes, and I had the French toast. Once again, we had the side fruit salad, and I had bacon this time. My wife loved her egg dish and the French toast was one large thick large slice of oatmeal crusted bread dipped in a tasty batter. Real maple syrup is served and not the sugary corn syrup. Service each day was excellent and very friendly. The prices were very reasonable and surprisingly not expensive like most hotels would be. We were able to charge it to the room. Eating here allowed us to start our day sooner and get on the road to our destination faster instead of going to look for a place in town and wait. TLDR: Come for the atmosphere, not for the taste of the food. Was taken here on a breakfast date. I'll admit, the place is really beautiful. My date picked a really pretty place, and the ambiance is calm, pastoral, and elegant. Cottage-core. I got an eggs benny and coffee, he got some kinda sandwich and a Bloody Mary. I tried some of his drink, and I'd suggest you don't order it if you like your drinks strong (his tasted virgin, with the only kicks being from the clamato and some spice mix). The presentation of the food was lovely, but the flavour left something more to be desired. I'll be back here one day, because they didn't have duck eggs (there's an option to sub chicken eggs for duck ones) and I wanted to try them. Location is beautiful. Especially love the "Old Farmhouse" vibe. But the menu didn't have two of the items we went there to have, and despite having a reservation we still had to wait an hour for our meals (4 of us) and they didn't bring two of the things we ordered until we were already done eating and asking for the check. Plus side: Monte Cristo sandwich was amazing. Turkey melt not so much. It's an hour drive for us, so we won't be back. read more

Went here on Valentine's Day for brunch, and it was a very adorable place! It was in a hotel that was right off the main road, and the atmosphere was very calming. It did not feel like I was at college anymore once I was there. Overall, the food was good, it was very affordable, and the staff was all very nice. The food was a little slow though, and we waiting over half an hour before our food came. This could be because it was Valentine's Day, though. The food was overall pretty good, though. However, the tables all seemed to hold a maximum of three people. So, this place would be a great for a party of two, but probably not anything bigger than that. Very quaint restaurant associated with an inn and spa with a French flair. Close to the Ithaca College campus, with a parking lot that is next to a duck pond and a wood building with a namesake brick tower and a colorful mural of flowers. We enjoyed their full breakfast menu which included for less than $20 generous servings of a main entree of eggs/waffle/pancakes, a fruit danish, juice, and coffee. It featured a very warm and inviting ambiance, lovely decor, and both indoor and outdoor seating. There's a beautiful water basin and stained glass window in their gender neutral restroom, which was very clean. We were seated immediately and the food was delicious. Excellent atmosphere with exposed wood beams and a fireplace in the green room. The service itself was good but it took a very long time to get the main course. We didn't have dessert and the meal still took 2 and a quarter hours so make sure you aren't in a rush. The cheese platter appetizer had a nice assortment of four good cheeses, plus some dried fruit and some grapes and of course crackers. It was a large portion. The salmon was dry and overcooked, but the caramelized onions on it partially made up for it. It came with wild rice and asparagus (the vegetable of the day) which were fine. Our other dish was the stuffed peppers. It was okay, though not very exciting. It came with a huge quantity of asparagus which was appreciated. Each entree comes with a nice little mixed salad. The sweet potato fries were okay. All in all it's a good place to dine particularly if you are staying at the hotel. read more

Many breakfast spots were closed on the Monday we visited Ithaca, but we got lucky to stumble upon this gem. The service, food everything about this meal was amazing. The $16.95 full breakfast is such a great option! We felt very comfortable and at ease dining indoors during this time of the Covid pandemic, they followed covid-19 protocols well. My daughter and I had such a lovely breakfast at this quaint little spot. We sat on a sunny-dappled porch and had delicious pancakes, a custom omelette, potatoes, and gluten free toast. We watched the owner of La Tourelle gather fresh ducks eggs from the ducks nesting near the pond area across from the house. They have several vegan offerings, as well. This is actually the best steak place in Ithaca. There's a movement toward cruelty free food in general here, but the bistro gives Zero Foxtrots. They are Meat-a-tarians and really good at it too. Their steaks are wonderful. I've had both the ribeye and the prime rib. Both were wonderful. read more

We took my daughter and her 6 friends to brunch here on a Saturday. The atmosphere is cozy and quaint and we were seated immediately thanks to having a reservation. The place was full with several large parties and our server took a bit to get to us but had reassured us she was on her way so we understood. She was literally running as she worked the room and managed to be incredibly kind and attentive despite how slammed she was. We ordered the full breakfast which comes with fruit and pastry. The mini pastries were served warm and amazingly delicious! My avocado toast with eggs was also very flavorful and satisfying and everyone else in our party appeared equally happy with their meals. I ordered a scramble with toast, fruit and a coffee. The coffee was solid though no non dairy creamer. I had high hopes but they were dashed pretty quickly. Lots of nice people work there and they've done a nice job of converting their banquet space into a restaurant. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. It went downhill from there. We waited for about 5 minutes before someone came over to ask if we wanted any coffee. It came right away. But no creamer. Another minute or 2 then we were able to flag someone down for cream. And ask for water for my kids. Water didn't come until we asked a second time after we waited 10 minutes more. All but 1 in our party of 5 ordered an appetizer in addition to an entree. And we waited . And waited. We had to flag someone down after 25 minutes to get a refill on coffee. We waited for 40 minutes for food. And THAT was a disaster. The food came put warm. Not hot. Warm. Those ordering soup were served warm almost room temperature soup. Not hot. And ROOM TEMPERATURE entrees. All at once. Exxept for my husband's yogurt parfait (his appetizer according to the menu listing) which came almost 10 minutes AFTER his French toast was served. No apologies for the wait. No one checked on how the food was until almost 15 minutes later. For such a well touted place? Utterly disappointing. Since I had hangry young people on Easter Sunday I didn't leave or complain too much. My review- 5 stars for the cleanliness & ambience/ decor, and for the seating hostess Jessica and the nice woman who added our bill behind the bar. Zero stars for service. Simply Red serves simply the best breakfast I've had in Ithaca! Seriously amazing. We were a bit intimidated to venture out to a spa resort for food, afraid it would be like crashing a hotel breakfast, and the posh interior nearly confirmed our fears. But once seated and served by the super attentive staff, we eased into a fantastically indulgent pampering. The first thing to arrive was a truly heavenly yogurt parfait featuring loads of fresh fruit, chocolate chips, nuts and a yummy cinnamon granola. That was followed by a basket of warm pastries, served with a sweet butter. Divine. And so filling, I could have walked away happy then and there. But then I would have missed out on the biggest treat of all: oatmeal crusted french toast with fresh strawberries, drizzled with a brown sugar cream. Wow, wow and wow! My partner was equally happy with his classic breakfast of eggs, bacon, taters and toast. It felt like a real splurge, but at $11.95 per person for everything, including drinks, it's actually the bargain of the century. And afterwards, we were happy to walk off some of that grub by exploring the woodland trails that wrap around the gorgeous grounds. This restaurant now provides a Covid safe dining experience as they moved the bistro downstairs! ! As a nurse and high risk patron I am very careful. With that said, the natural setting with indoor and outdoor seating options have something for everyone, with 66 total seating capacity! Tables are 6-10 feet apart with barriers where needed. Plenty of outdoor seating and can't beat the natural setting far away from crowds. Now to the best part! The food was superb, we had a late bkfst, omelet with all the fixings and oatmeal crusted French toast with brown sugar creme and berries. All ingredients were farm to table fresh, had home baked/made flavor and attention to detail. I was craving a really good cup of coffee after hotel "in the room" offerings and I was not disappointed Robust and smooth with a hint of chocolate, perfectly complemented my meal. This is a quaint, adorable little place in the lovely La Tourelle Inn. The bistro operates a very simple, locally sourced, and delicious breakfast, which is also offered as a brunch on the weekends. Lunch offerings are also elegant, simple, and perfect for a break away from the office for the classroom when you feel like you need a nice treat. Prices are quite modest: $15 for the breakfast, which includes several choices between pancakes, French toast, farmer style breakfast, omelettes, and all come with a breakfast pastry, fruit bowl, toast, and coffee or tea. It is quite the steal for only $15 plus do you factor in that they're mostly organic or otherwise locally sourced ingredients. I myself have just eaten breakfast here for days in a row and have a mentally enjoyed it each time. The atmosphere is that of a country inn: quaint, friendly, and you get the feeling like you are the only person who matters. Every server I had was sweet, friendly, and sensitive to the fact that I was actually trying to move through my meal so that I could get to my business. The omelettes are absolutely fantastic, especially with the local organic meats and vegetables selections, I highly recommend anything with goat cheese. The Bistro and I will definitely have a future relationship together, as I plan on making it a stop every time I'm back in town even if I'm not staying at this hotel. read more

Excellent service by the wait staff, which was especially appreciated considering I was out of both dress and element at this spa-supported restaurant. I came here for brunch today at 11:30 am, planning on coffee and a light meal. After looking over the menu, I went for plain coffee with milk, and chose the frittata with artichoke and goat cheese topping as my course. Two of my companions made the same choice. The plate came quickly, and I found the presentation appealing - slices of fruit stacked, and breakfast potatoes nestled under fresh greens, with a wedge of... omelet? It did not appear like a frittata, which is commonly cooked as a slice of egg-based pie, but instead as an egg dish that was folded over its ingredients, like an omelet. While much of the periphery of the dish was delicious (I went for seconds on the salad by stealing greens from my girlfriends' plate!) there were parts that were not satisfactory. The grapefruit slice was appetizing-looking, but bland. It should have been sweeter and wetter, so I'm not sure how long ago it had been cut. The orange slice had a distinct taste and smell of off-ripeness. Lastly, the frittata, while comprised of a promising blend of ingredients, did not serve my palette due to its dryness and lack of flavor. The onion inside included bits of skin, which should have been discarded. The meal was somewhat enjoyable, but revisited me in a stomach ache, causing me to consider the quality of cleanliness of the ingredients. I'm not sure if I could recommend this particular plate at Simply Red, and am curious about how it was prepared. read more

Went for Sunday brunch. Ordered the shrimp and polenta (the classy man's shrimp 'n' grits) and it was decent - a bit under-seasoned for my taste, even with the chorizo. People always rave about their oatmeal-crusted french toast, and it really is quite delicious. Had a taste of my friend's omelette, which...tasted like an omelette (nothing really to complain about there, but also nothing to rave about). I haven't tried the lunch at the La Tourelle location, but I did have a really great steak salad and flatbread pizza at the Sheldrake Point Winery location before it closed. read more

Beautiful breakfast option: good,local food, nice dining room, and outside dining in the summer. For $14.95, you get fresh fruit, pastries, coffee/juice/tea, and a breakfast entree. The savory dishes seem to be a better deal but the French Toast here never disappoints. Oatmeal crusted, the thick pieces of bread a crispy on the outside, not overly sweet, and very fluffy. For the savory option - you get to pick your own ingredients for the omelette. I highly recommend the bacon-asparagus-goat cheese combination. Always a lovely time here. I work on Sundays so I'm always missing out on brunch, which makes me sad because brunch is the ultimate meal. Why more restaurants don't do their Sunday brunch on Saturday as well, we'll never know. but this is beside the point. Whenever I do manage to get a Sunday off, brunch is the first item of business. Simply Red recently opened up shop in Danby as the restaurant for La Tourelle - the inn and spa. This is a second location for them, in addition to their restaurant at Sheldrake - and since I have long been a fan of Simply Red (mostly because of their fried chicken!), and because La Tourelle is close to home for me, I had been anxious to give their brunch a try. The service was great and I loved the big, cushy, and super comfortable chairs. I was able to snuggle in and let myself hide from the real world a little longer that morning. I like the atmosphere there, despite it's being a hotel restaurant. The brunch came with pastries, which were totally unecessary because the brunch portions were truly enormous. but hey, everyone likes pastries so I won't complain. I ordered the crab and shrimp eggs benedict which was absolutely to die for. I think this plate had to have been 4000+ calories - it was just swimming in the richest, most delicious hollaindaise sauce I had ever had. My husband ordered the giant burrito, which was indeed made for a giant - and was spicy, messy, and yummy. The brunch was also very reasonably priced - we each had coffee, juice and at least three times as much food as a person probably should eat for breakfast, and well honestly I don't remember what the bill came to, but we were both impressed that it wasn't a more expensive brunch. So now I am plotting to take off more Sundays, so that I can eat the Simply Red brunch again. In the meantime, you should go and eat brunch there for me - it makes me so sad when restaurants stop doing their wonderful brunches (I'll never forget you Maxies brunch! Or you, Just a Taste brunch!). Support the brunch!!
