Two weeks ago I went to this bar while waiting on my bus to show up. The people were so friendly and they have a great bartender. I'd recommend this place to anyone who likes to talk to nice people (Ricky, Shawn, Herbie and Woodie) and great drinks. They also have a pool table and lots of other games to play too. This bar reminds me of my favorite old neighborhood dive bar in DC except this isn't in my neighborhood. The place has ALL the perfect components of a Cheers-like hole-in-the-wall: regulars, cheap drinks, a few board/electronic games, a couple of tvs and no food. I've only been a few times but there has never been a dull moment nor have I had a dull conversation. You won't find a group of uncomfortable looking people standing around in suits and heels drinking $15 drinks. You will find a bunch of cool laid people shooting the breeze with regularly priced beer and drinks. If want to eat, feel free to bring your own food in with you. Actually this is the only reason it lost a star. After I start drinking, I don't feel like going to get food. Also, it's a member's only club so you gain entry with a member or I'm sure you ask about getting a membership "card" which is nothing more than a business card with a stamp. read more

The Bison Bar. This place is drawing large crowds every Thursday Friday and Saturday night, the crowds are very noisy, the crowds are illegally parking up and down Whitaker mill rd, loitering and leaving trash along the road. I've witnessed and recorded drunken Bison bar patrons stumbling back to their cars, yelling, fighting and driving away-very intoxicated. I've witnessed public urinating on the sidewalks of Whitaker mill rd. Then there are the motorcycles that are equipped with subwoofers that blast as they ride up and down Whitaker mill. As well as daredevil motorcycle riders popping wheelies and flying up and down this road. I have contacted the Raleigh police department, city council and the mayor about this situation. There have been two shootings at the Bison since it reopened after the pandemic shutdown. The Bison used to be a small neighborhood bar, but has lately begun attracting loud. obnoxious, disrespectful crowds. This is a residential neighborhood. I will continue to contact the police every weekend as this behavior continues to be an issue. Do better Bison. read more

Interesting place, The Bison Bar. We wandered in here thinking this was maybe a bar and grill serving bison and such. Wrong. This is a private club and bar, and they do not serve food. We started to walk away, as we were not members, but one of the customers offered to bring us in as his guests, which was really nice! So we sat down at the bar and watched some of the sports on their several TVs and grabbed a couple beers. Beer selection was good. Plus they have a very complete bar. You won't be thirsty here! Bartenders were really nice as well. One pool table and a few video games as well. You can also sit out front and have your drink as well. The place is small and would be crazy when crowded, which they say it gets in the evenings, especially on the weekends. You can apparently get a day or week membership to give the place a try, which is pretty cool. It looks like, based on the place and some of the clientele, that this place could get a little rough and crazy some nights. But the bartenders said that it's not really like that. I didn't feel unsafe at all. Best thing - the cost. When we were there on Sunday, all drafts were $2. And that's not just the crappy lite beers, but a nice selection of beers on tap. Other nightly specials are similarly inexpensive. A nice change!! read more

Like that this has a true dive bar feel to it. Heck the fact that men's room door lock wasn't working actually added to the super casual, come as you are feel. I checked out this place as a first timer and while I wasn't treated poorly nothing was done to make me feel welcome. I did get a touch of the "Who is this guy?" vibe that comes with flying solo but maybe I was reading too much into this place. Bison bar was really a pleasant surprise for me. I can't really put my finger on why, but I was always a bit hesitant to check this spot out.. It's really a pretty cool, laid back neighborhood bar. It has some arcade games and even a pool table! Really the best/most unique aspects of Bison bar (at least to me) are the Bison bomb and the vodka red bull slushies. I'll start with the slushy.. It is soo good, but very strong! One drink will put you back $10, but will just about get you where you need to go. And as the bison bomb goes, I don't think words can describe this "feat." It costs $25, but you will not have to drink anything the rest of the night, if you can even last it. If I recall correctly you take a shot of fireball, then the next shot falls into a cup making a royal flush shot, then an Irish car bomb? And finally about half a pitcher of vodka red bull. My friends brought me here when I was visiting. We ordered a Bison Bomb, which is a multi-tiered shot drink - as you take one shot, the one next to it falls down to the next level, and so on. Be ready to land on your ass after. We didn't spend too much time there, but the atmosphere was pretty cool. read more

I drove by the Bison for so long before stopping by and I honestly never thought I would go inside. It looks like a biker bar where you are more likely to get stabbed with a prison shank than served a solid drink. So, one night we were sitting at friends house near 5 Points and decided instead of drinking at the ever cushy 5 Points bars, we decided to take our large group to the Bison, almost as a joke. Yes, it was scary at first but the scariest people turned out the be the nicest. I got random high fives from bikers while I was wearing a pink shirt and loafers. The Bison is like some alternate universe where everyone gets along (except some guy who's gf's drink I spilled) no matter how normal or bizarre you are and they will serve you a full glass of Knob Creek and ice for $3 every night of the week. I don't know how they don't lose money on that. The Bison is best if you have a decent sized group. You can always find good company there but to do the Bison properly you must show up with at least 30 people and completely conquer the place. Next Saturday night when you are at a large party and don't want to all cram into the same bar you always go to and struggle to get a drink with a bunch of people you don't know, head to the bison. They have incredible drink specials, great bartenders, and everyone is friendly. Lastly, don't ask what it is but just go up to the bar and order a Bison Bomb. It's kinda small but really tasty and every Bison Bomb comes with a trophy. I went to this bar after a long day, hoping to meet some welcoming people. To my surprise, it was the bartender who dampened the mood. Previously in the night, I noticed certain people getting more liquor than others. I didn't make a fuse out out of it, I just took a mental note. I went to the get my second drink from the bar, once again, just trying to enjoy the night. The bartender proceeded to say, "I don't want to put you on blast, but if you don't tip I don't get paid." He then proceeded to pour my drink and gave it to me saying loudly, "This is your second one.". The woman next to me, who seemed to be a regular, asked what happened and if I was okay. I have no problem tipping bartenders, in fact, I gratefully tipped the person serving at the bar I went to later this night. However, when someone fishes for tips, especially in a job based on customer service, I have no respect. In this case, pour my drink the way you pour everyone else's and you'll get tipped. This incident was embarrassing and unnecessary. He shouldn't have got in to a job that relies on tips- it's part of the game. If you're looking for a place that simply serves drinks, this is not the place for you. I am only writing this to steer people away from going into a place where you won't be welcomed unless you're a regular. If you have some extra gas, try The Goat off of Western Blvd. It is only a dollar to get in with specials every night. read more

I attended the bison bar after going to a concert with my friends. First off they charged at the door which already made me not want to go in because there are plenty of bars in Raleigh that don't charge. Went in it was Ok but when I went to close my tab the bartender told me that he gave me back my card. Which later on that night we found out he lied because the other bartender working gave it to me. Needless to say that was my first and my last time going to the bison bar and I will make sure I tell all my friends and spread the word that their are crooked bartenders that work there and that definitely is not the place u want to go. read more

A friend of mine's invited me to this bar on a Saturday night. I wasn't sure about it when I got there but as I stayed a while. I actually really liked it. It's kind of small but they have $4 dollar drinks every Saturday night and it really is a cool atmosphere in there.
