All the sites are in wooded areas and felt private enough--not as private as you get at state parks but nothing like a parking lot. Very friendly place with a lot of seasonals. Showers were cleaner than I expected. Nice playground for kids. There's not a lot to do in the Turner area but if you like to camp out and chill, give this place a try. Only negative is that they allow gas golf carts, which are loud, but we didn't have any problems with the noise at night which is when it matters.

The kids spend time by themselves, my husband and I have time alone and together, and we have time with the kids to enjoy each other as a family. The camp is large enough for the kids to exercise their independence --heading to the barn for activities or kayaking in the cove by themselves without me worrying about them. When we go, I don't cook, clean or plan anything - which as a busy mom, is the best kind of vacation. The camp is rustic and simple but very clean with beautifully manicured grounds - a space just perfect for appreciating nature. The food is delicious (I probably gained 5 lbs last week) and easily catered to special diets. I enjoyed a nice mix of structured activities (fishing, sailing, art, archery, land sports, barn dance, bingo, etc) and down time (time at the lake or for a nature walk or just to relax around the fire). I also appreciated the sense of community that camp strives to create each week among the family members. At about 10-12 families per week, it is just the right size. Can't recommend this special place highly enough and I can't wait to go back.

The location is ideal if you want a relaxing, quiet, beautiful, pristine, and tranquil setting for your Maine trip. Its location is ideal for day trips for shopping in Freeport, sightseeing, and trips to the coast. You can go boating, fishing, and swimming right from your front door. The cottages are clean, well stocked, safe, and beautifully decorated. Each cottage has a grill, well stocked kitchen with utensils and pots and pans ready for every need from burgers to lobsters! They also provide recreational equipment for fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and just chilling out on the lawn, in the houseboat, on the dock, or in a hammock under the trees. The next day we kayaked over to another island where an eagle nest had been reported. We enjoyed swimming at the beach. Be sure to bring water shoes as there are some freshwater clams living here. I truly felt like I was finally on vacation when we were all sitting by the shore of the lake at sunset, listening to the loons sing, with fellow campers playing guitar. Kids were playing by the swings waiting for the campfire to be ready for marshmallows. I wish I could have stayed longer. This place is well taken care of, very friendly hosts. They allow well-behaved pets too, which was nice for our new pup.

The issues: at $280 a night we felt the room was very dated (last updated about 20 years ago). The room smelled like bleach or really like how a senior living or care center smells which we spoke to the management about. The physical parts of the building, being quite old, showed various states of care/repair/disrepair/wear. Overall I dont see this at $280 but it was an ok stop. Management did acknowledge the issues and said the rooms not yet updated were to be done soon. Perhaps verify if your room choice has been done if reserving. I give it a 2 star towards 3 but price keeps it at 2 in its current condition.

Due to my schedule I didn't get to go to breakfast and I ended up coming in late so I never got to meet the owners but they accommodated me with a lock box with instructions in my key along with a map and very clear directions. I spoke with the owner on the phone briefly and fell in love with her immediately. I wish I had been awake for breakfast so I could've met her in person. We had a very good experience renting Tom's largest camper for four nights in July 2018. He…read moredelivered/set it up at a campground in OOB on a Monday about 6:30 pm and then came back to get it at 10 am on Friday. The camper was very clean and modern, adequate for four adults and two teen girls. It makes me laugh, though, that the "official" sleeping capacity of this trailer is 8-10 people. That would NOT be comfortable. In my opinion, the only bed that can comfortably accommodate two adults is the queen size bed. All the other sleeping spots (including the sofa, dinette and two bunks) are best for either one adult or two small children. The bunk mattresses are thin-- really best for kids even though the weight capacity of the each bunks is 300 pounds. I know that all campers use these same overly generous descriptions of sleeping capacity and don't fault Vacationland Rentals at all for their representation. Rather I just thought I would share my two cents in case it could help inform someone else's travel plans. As I said, my experience dealing with Tom was very pleasant and we will definitely call on him again if we decide more camping is in our future. (Oh, the one small suggestion I would offer is that we would have loved to have a toaster in the camper. We used the stovetop to toast bagels but it wasn't quite the same. Otherwise, the camper was well equipped. Thanks so much!)
