Now that this has been sold to new owners (Modern America) and they have brought in a new manager Christy Smith, it is a joke. Christy has ruined so many things here & is very unprofessional. She does not talk to customers about issues when confronted, instead she slams the door in their face and swears at them while flipping them off. The prices have gone up and no work has been put in to the campground. The grass was above our ankles and the sewer lines were backed up so our tanks barely drained at the full hookups. Bathrooms were disgusting. We cancelled the rest of our planned trips that we had booked here for the season and will not be back. Over 60 seasonal customers are pulling out and not coming back next year either. Save yourself and book somewhere else.

We had a very good experience renting Tom's largest camper for four nights in July 2018. He…read moredelivered/set it up at a campground in OOB on a Monday about 6:30 pm and then came back to get it at 10 am on Friday. The camper was very clean and modern, adequate for four adults and two teen girls. It makes me laugh, though, that the "official" sleeping capacity of this trailer is 8-10 people. That would NOT be comfortable. In my opinion, the only bed that can comfortably accommodate two adults is the queen size bed. All the other sleeping spots (including the sofa, dinette and two bunks) are best for either one adult or two small children. The bunk mattresses are thin-- really best for kids even though the weight capacity of the each bunks is 300 pounds. I know that all campers use these same overly generous descriptions of sleeping capacity and don't fault Vacationland Rentals at all for their representation. Rather I just thought I would share my two cents in case it could help inform someone else's travel plans. As I said, my experience dealing with Tom was very pleasant and we will definitely call on him again if we decide more camping is in our future. (Oh, the one small suggestion I would offer is that we would have loved to have a toaster in the camper. We used the stovetop to toast bagels but it wasn't quite the same. Otherwise, the camper was well equipped. Thanks so much!)

****CONTINUATION OF PREVIOUS REVIEW**** (It wouldn't fit!)…read more Special Activities Vega has many "fun" days to offer. Sundays are "Lazy Sundays" where the girls can sleep in, enjoy a lazy breakfast at their leisure in the dining hall, and after lunch, there are activities, games, capture the flag, etc. On a particularly hot day, the owners might announce a "Waterfront Afternoon" where the whole camp spends the afternoon at the swimming docks and on the beach. On a rainy morning, a "Bunk Morning" may be announced, keeping the girls out of the inclement weather and providing a cozy atmosphere to read, play jacks, write, sing, listen to music and bond as a bunk. There are also Evening Activities for all ages after dinner. Sometimes there is a play or a show to go to, or a nighttime volleyball game, movie night, etc. The older girls will have an occasional Social with neighboring boys camps, either at Vega or travelling to their camp. The Food We've all heard the horror stories. "Camp Food! Ugh!" Well, this simply does not apply here at Vega. The kitchen staff is headed by two trained chefs with "luxurious" backgrounds! (Many are from Hotels or Culinary Institutes) Even as a picky-young-to-teenaged camper, I had very little complaints about the quality of the food. Peanut Butter and Jelly are available at every meal, for those who do not like that night's selection. One counselor sits at each assigned table to supervise and make sure the girls are all happy and full! The dining hall seats the entire camp population in one seating. Daily announcements are made here, which makes for great communication between administrative staff, counselors, and campers. Medical Facilities There is an on-site infirmary, with a resident doctor and a staff of registered nurses as well. Having encountered the stray bee and occasional fall, sprain, cut, etc in my years at Vega, I can say the medical staff was well trained and attentive. If there is a serious injury or illness, there is transportation available off-campus, and the camper is allowed to contact home. (The camp, of course, will also contact parents.) The Staff Vega's staff is fantastic. They are a well-rounded bunch, all hired for their specific specialties and interests. These counselors are found every Spring during a "Staff Recruit" at colleges across the country. They are still close enough in age to relate and guide the campers. Some of my counselors from 1992 are now among my close friends! There are a few "Male Staff" hired as well. Each Male Staff is assigned a bunk to be a "Bunkle" to. They provide the male influence, which helps the girls adjust to an all-female world. There are very strict rules about interaction, and these rules are adhered to without question. The Campers The girls are from all over the country, primarily the East and Northeast. Your daughter will quickly learn to accept and adapt. The inevitable cliques will form, but are quickly dismissed and broken down. Being in such close quarters at all times forbids them. Everyone is equal and everyone must compromise. The younger girls form bonds quickly and hold those bonds throughout their future years at Vega. Camp Policies The most common concern: Phone calls. Vega Girls may receive one phone call from her parents per summer. She will recieve a memo and a time to call back (collect) that same evening. A full list of campus policies is sent before your daughter leaves for camp. In Closing: I am most definitely biased. I hold Vega close to my heart. While visiting other camps, none impressed me much, as I had Camp Vega to compare them to. Vega shines like the star of its namesake. Some of the closest friendships in life are formed at repeated summers of camp. Vega is one of the finest summer camps in the country, just ask any Alumni!

The administration, if they decide they don't "like your daughter" can be cruel. I had to remove my daughter from camp Vega this summer, because the administration decided they didn't like her "vibe." This was her 5th summer at the camp. The administration mentally abused her, and in her last 20 hours at camp, kept her locked in a room, like a prisoner, until we could travel to Maine to get her. There are many other good choices for all girls summer camps in Maine. Avoid Vega. For the safety of your daughter.

I had to come up to Augusta for my college roommate's wedding. Rather than drive at least 6.5 hours…read more(or truly 8 or so including breaks and traffic), I did the slightly more expensive, but much faster alternative: fly. I flew into Boston and then took one of those fun 6-7 seat Cape Air flights straight into Augusta. That was a fun experience on its own. The airport itself is small, but has a few fun things of note. It's one of the rare situations where you can arrive within 40 minutes of your flight, get thru security, and then end up on your connecting flight without having to undergo more security. With a couple people at the counter and a couple TSA security guards, staff is tight, but effective. You get called to go into security one by one, thus leading to a pretty fast process. What's nice about this is if you have a connecting flight in Terminal C at Logan. You bypass doing security again and can end up at your connecting gate within minutes. I ended up booking two separate itineraries (Cape Air to/from Augusta and Jet Blue to/from Boston) just because it ended up cheaper. I wasn't checking in baggage, but I was able to book my flights within a short connection of one another to optimize my time. My flight into Boston landed at 4:14 and departed to Augusta at 5:35, plenty of time. I was more ambitious on my return and booked the 7am to reach Boston at 8:15ish to depart at 9. Still plenty of time, although weather can definitely play a role. When arriving, one thing that's available here is the Hertz car rental. I didn't use it, but it's good to know for business travelers. Just make sure you arrive when Hertz is actually open for the day. If you take one of the last flights, the Hertz station is closed. Also wanted to note that one of the women behind the counter (think she works for Hertz?) was nice enough to drop me to my hotel as it seems like taxis/Ubers/Lyfts are quite infrequent in the area. Unfortunately Sweet Chili Thai is closing soon, but that's a random perk of this airport too.
