I love The Big Slice. It's the only place in town I know of that serves NY style pizza. I'm from a bigger city so when I couldn't find many restaurants that served NY style pizza I was pretty shocked. Big Slice definitely makes up for it! The employees are almost always in good spirits and are super funny. Getting a couple slices of pizza for dinner is relatively inexpensive. Big price, small quality. Very disappointed. Tried three different types of pizza and all were greasy and the flavor just wasn't good.

Late lunch and we did not really know the place so we ordered too much food. We really came for the garlic knots so we ordered them. We got a lot of them but they seemed to be partially reheated so they were hard dry and lukewarm. The highlight of our lunch was the pizza with blended spinach on it. Love their pizza! I've only eaten take out from the location on South Kansas Expressway. The crust is very fresh tasting and it's just really different than what you expect with classic Pizza take out. I only wish their dipping marinara that comes with the knots was severed warm. read more

I've enjoyed this restaurant since 2014 But recently placed an order for Delivery and the person taking the order was new and was not asking the questions Normally asked in the way everyone else had in the past and I could tell that he was struggling with the system. Then after the charge was made to my card For $46.49 was Told it would be an hour and half for delivery. I gasped With frustration to such a long wait and was told that he had told me this before I ordered. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I was tired and then said I didn't want to wait an hour and half so he offered me to pick it up in 30 to 35 minutes and when I asked if he was sure it would be ready when I got there he assured me that it would be. Well I arrived 45 minutes later to be asked for payment again of an amount about $3 less, and when I told the young lady at the register that my card had been charged and pulled up my online banking I was Looked at with confusion and then another girl tried finding the payment to all deny they had been paid. They insisted even with showing them my welllsfargo online banking that the payment had not processed showing me their in house cash register system as proof. All that showed me was they had an order for pick up on their system but didn't disprove my card had not been charged. The guy that took my order Appeared and insisted that he was on the phone and my card had not been charged then they told me it would reverse after a couple of days that it was jaut an authorization. I checked three days later and it became a reconciled charge So I called and spoke to Jacob who said he heard about this and insisted that they never were paid and my Card was not charged and finally Said that he believed me and would contact their card processor and would let me know what he finds out "whenever" he finds out something with no regard to me being out nearly $50 or any type of apology Just pretty much he would check into it with no date Or turn time as to when I should expect To hear back and that they aren't in the business of charging peoples card or ripping people off "no accountability" for their system and meanwhile my online banking is showing the charge and my account is missing $46.49. I called my bank and they have passed the charge to their resolution department and will resolve it from their end. All I can hope for now is my Bank resolves this "and I'm sure the will" and sadly although we like their food I'm now unable to with good conscience order From Big slice again! read more

Ordered pizza for carry out and got it back to the hotel only to realize that one of our pizzas was incorrect (that's what we get for not checking). I called because I really wanted my Supreme instead of the cheese we received. They not only offered to remake the pizza but also offered to deliver it to us and that is why they're getting the full five stars. The slices are huuuuuuuuge and inexpensive (2.50 for cheese). The small/side salad was fresh and was enough for more than one person. The crust was thin and foldable on the bottom but still fluffy, chewy, and delicious around the edges. Is all I have to say. oh and the dough is chewy. Just because it may be hand-tossed does not mean it is New York style pizza. I've heard great things about this place, and I finally checked it out this week. I went around 2:30 in the afternoon, so it was slow. The menu on the wall is in a different place than where you order which threw me off a little bit. I wanted to get the Sicilian and the spinach one, but they didn't have any of the Sicilian made up & said it would take 35+ minutes to make. I opted for the classic cheese and the spinach pizza. They put the pieces of pizza in the oven to heat them up. Mine came out pretty quickly, and the slices are huge. The spinach one was good but some of the cheese had been over baked so it was crunchy kind of. It didn't really taste like spinach, but I still liked it. The cheese pizza was extremely greasy but I enjoyed it. It tasted like high quality mozzarella to me, which is what makes cheese pizza so good. Overall, it was good and only cost me just over $6. The staff was kind of weird. They were yelling across the restaurant at each other (jokingly) but it was pretty obnoxious. The service is just OK. There are sparse and I mean sparse toppings. I did not want to spend a lot of time and waste their time on the phone so I said I just need sausage beef green onions and mushrooms. It was $24 and some change the five topping pizza which would be pepperoni substitute for the beef and add onions was only $20. I looked for a NY style pizza and we finally tried this place. The reviews were right...the dough was good, the sauce tasty. I would have liked a little more sausage on the pie and maybe a few more minutes in the oven, but we were both impressed. They also had a nice selection of draft beers. We will go back. read more

This is by far one of my favorite pizza places in Springfield. Full bar with on draft IPAs, amazing pizza, and a friendly staff. $3 12 oz coors or Miller life, and $8 pitchers! It's been a while since a place like this has been available in Springfield, but now that it is, I find myself here a lot - whether dining in with friends or ordering out. I like coming here because there are no frills and no pseudo-Italian cliches (please, let's leave the "Mama Mia! Papa Pia!" nonsense at home, just once). It's called The Big Slice and that's exactly what you come here to get - it satisfies a greasy craving in a righteously non-pretentious way, and generally for pretty cheap. Of course, the prices rise depending on what kind of toppings you want and how many, but you can leave a happy camper with about 7 or 8 bucks on your person. Personally, I love the pizza here because it's just PIZZA, and it's BIG. It's accurately NY style, so there's less sauce and more of a requirement to fold it in half before eating. It's also greasy as hell. So was the pizza we got for lunch in middle school, but we all ate that and loved it, so I don't see the issue. Side note: The Big Slice has another item besides pizza that deserves mention. I was here the other night with family and got to try a bite of someone's lasagna, which was AWESOME - wonderfully herby and swimming in marinara. I feel like this item probably gets overlooked here, but get it next time you go and make all your pizza-eatin' friends jealous. Unfortunately, an item I don't like so much here are the garlic knots and cinnamon knots. While I'm no stranger to stuffing bits of dough in my face, these just leave a bit to be desired. The garlic balls are REALLY garlicy, and the cinnamon balls are REALLY cinnamon-y. The icing-like sauce that comes with the cinnamon ones help balance the spice, but it's just not the indulgent sweet-tooth attack one comes to expect with pizza-joint desserts. The price is great ($1.50 for 8 garlic knots, $2.50 for 8 cinnamon knots), but if I have to sigh a heaving "MEH." before ordering, that's probably not a great sign. If the knots' recipes were altered a little, these babies would be a hit, at least with my friends. read more

Came to MO from the northeast, MA in 1987. Could not find a decent pizza in this state after several years so gave up. Last march however while visiting in-laws in Springfield (I live in St. Charles), I stopped into The Big Slice. The second I looked at the pizza here I knew. When I got mine I almost cried. THERE IS REAL PIZZA IN MISSOURI!. Wife and I go there now whenever we are in town or passing thru. Returning from Branson, MO recently, we called a day ahead. they par-baked 4 pies for us and wrapped/boxed them for us to take home and freeze. So we've eaten Big Slice for awhile now, and at first we were really impressed. However the past two times that we have ordered from them, the pizza has been sub par at best. One night we ordered and the pizza was burned. We cut them some slack because the restaurant was flooding due to the rain. As I continue to travel around the wasteland of flavorless sauce, lackluster crust and micro toppings that permeate our beloved town, I am tickled pink when I come away with a smile on my face. Tonight was one of those nights. We have eaten at the Big Slice before with mixed feelings however I have found the secret to true pizza happiness...... less is more. The Big Slice offers a very flexible ny style crust made to be curled up like a half tube and eaten with one hand. In earlier attempts we have ordered multiple toppings and loaded the crust down. Today we went with a simple double mushroom only ( it was mushroom loaded btw) and the simple toppings did not overpower the thin but chewy and flavorful crust. All said, it was some of my favorite pizza outings of recent memory. My advice is to go simple and not overload the crust and enjoy a pretty good big slice. read more

I love New York style pizza and this is as close as you can get to it in SGF. Very reasonable during lunch as they offer many pizzas by the slice and the slices are the size of your face and you have to fold it to eat it. If you do order by the slice just know that the pizzas are precooked ahead of time and they heat up your slice in the oven when you order. Looking for a bite to each between basketball games and found this place. Excellent New York style pizza. We had a slice of the Burt Reynolds and a slice of the supreme. Both were delicious! My son got the buffalo wings and sucked the bones dry. Needless to say, he loved them. We also tried the pepperoni pinwheels and the manager sent us out some complementary garlic balls. I could tell it was good pizza, but I was still a little disappointed. We went during a slow time, so the slice I ordered was not fresh. I ordered cheese and added veggies, so they took a slice that had been previously made, added the veggies and a bit of cheese, and reheated it. The jalapeños were raw and crunchy and none of it was very warm. The person taking our order and cooking the food seemed disinterested. My husband ordered an entire pepperoni pizza, which looked very good but I don't eat meat so I didn't try it. I am like grumpy old man when it comes to pizza. I have my favorite place to eat it, I get the same thing every time, and I am unwilling to try any other pizza place for fear of disappointment. And in most cases when I do try other pizza, I end up bitchin' and moanin' that I should have just gone to my pizza place. The exception being The Big Slice. Had it once at a wedding (very elegant wedding believe it or not) and I have had it 10 times since. It is now a close second in my mind. The crust, sauce and toppings are ample and delicious.
