Yesterday around 3:30 p.m., my family and I stopped by one of our favorite ice cream shops, The Big Scoop, and we were truly impressed by Courtney. From the moment we walked in, she greeted us with a warm smile and outstanding customer service. Although she was the only employee working, she handled everything with professionalism, efficiency, and grace. There were already three families enjoying their ice cream when we arrived, and while we were there, she served our family along with three additional families--all while scooping ice cream, operating the cash register, and keeping things running smoothly. I asked if she was always scheduled to work alone, and she mentioned that another employee was supposed to arrive at 3:00 p.m. By the time we left around 4:20 p.m., she was still managing the entire shop by herself without ever losing her positive attitude or composure. Courtney deserves recognition for her incredible work ethic, professionalism, and dedication. In a time when great customer service can be hard to find, she set an outstanding example. Came here on a whim while we were out here at Anvil. I randomly decided: let's get some ice cream!! Fired up Yelp, and bam... less than a 5 minute drive. What an AMAZING find... Yelp was spot on! The employees were SOOOO friendly and inviting. They were all smiles, let my daughter ask all the questions, and just pleasant to work with. They made the experience (and the ice cream) one that made us immediately want to come back. With all the competition in the area for ice cream, this place is definitely a top contender! A nice little ice cream shop with friendly staff who were super patient with us since it took us an eternity to decide. We were able to sample different kinds of ice cream in the process of figuring out what we wanted. They have a great selection of ice cream and sorbet flavors! Like their name suggests, they do not shy away from big scoops! The scoops we have in the attached pictured was for the medium size (2 scoops of different flavored ice cream) and it was more than enough for us! We highly recommend this place for the generous portions. The ice cream itself is also very good (I had blueberry cheesecake and banana pudding, yum). Great ice cream place with hard ice cream, shakes, soft serve, and a blizzard like treat! Sundaes as well! I tried their Oreo milkshake and it was delicious! My dining companion got two scoops of their ice cream and I can see why they call it the big scoop! They are BIG scoops! The woman who handled our ice cream needs was super nice and helpful since it was our first time there. Inside they have some arcade games and about 8 tables which is great on a hot summer day to be able to eat your ice cream treat inside . They also offer a military discount which is very nice! Yummy ice cream and friendly staff. I met a friend for lunch nearby and as it was a sunny day, I figured I'd treat myself to some ice cream for dessert. I opted for a small cup of banana pudding ice cream and really enjoyed it. It was a pretty large size serving for a small cup, I almost had trouble finishing it, but I am not a quitter! It's a really cute place that plays 80's music so I felt right at home, even though I was one of the few people without children. We always come to Williamsburg for the prime outlets mall, and this time we were here on a pretty day and decided to get ice cream before heading home. The Big Scoop is literally a 2 min drive from the outlets and doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior is fun and colorful, especially for kids, and the staff is super friendly. They have frozen yogurt, dairy-free sorbet, and all kinds of unique ice cream flavors, many I'd never seen before. I loved the Graham Cracker ice cream (forgot the name, but tasted like pure crushed graham crackers) and the Sea Turtle. Both were really creamy, the Sea Turtle had tiny caramel-filled chocolate turtles which was cute and fun. Scoops were HUGE! My dad got the medium which was muchhh bigger than expected (it says 2 scoops but they really load it up) and I got the kids' which was a perfect size. Visited The Big Scoop for the first time today. Was not disappointed. We ordered medium sized Twisters and a sundae. Large portion and plenty of cookie dough pieces in both the twister and sundae! The service was friendly, a little bit of a wait but nothing too bad. The ambiance I'd say is a bit loud, between the music playing , people talking and the shake machine going it was hard to hear what questions were being asked about the order and hard to keep a conversation at the table. A nice planned trip to visit this cool spot! Air conditioning on 90 ° days is necessary. Between 3 of us we sampled 3 different menu items. Ice cream, twister and nachos. Everything was enjoyed by all. Plenty of flavors and combinations to enjoy your icecream. Milkshakes, cones, lots of toppings and extras!!! Of course there's chocolate, strawberry and vanilla but, why? Restaurant was clean. Customer service was excellent. The staff was patient, offered suggestions and samples. We stopped here for a quick dessert during our vacation in Williamsburg and am I glad we did! I'm a bit of an ice cream snob, but this place lived up to my high standards. Not only did they have tons of ice cream options, but also frozen ice and dole whip! My personal favorite was the strawberry cheesecake ice cream. It had the texture of an airy cheesecake with swirls of strawberries throughout. YUM. It was quite busy when we stopped in around 8-9pm on a weekday, so plan accordingly! Wanted to top of a great day w dessert treat first place we arrived at 8:45 to find it closed earlier due to staffing problems. Second try brought us to The Big Scoop at 8:57. Teen staff was busy cleaning and stacking chairs for a 9 pm closing. We asked if we might grab something to go and we're met with the warmest, most professional greeting g you could ever ask for. The young server assured us there was no hurry and offered up tastes to try. The servings in their to go bowls were HUGE and we enjoyed them at a picnic table "island" in the parking lot. Yummy! Just what Williamsburg needed a great ice cream shop. We have great custard places but an establishment that offered many flavors of hard ice cream was needed. I went to check out the big scoop the second week of their opening. The staff was very friendly, mainly younger teens. They offer hard ice cream, Italian ice, milkshakes, sundaes and floats. You need to beg these people to give you less ice cream! They are not kidding with their name. We all went after going to Water Country and I ordered a kiddie cone and got the equivalent of 2 huge scoops at a standard place. I didn't care because it was really good ice cream. I tried the lil blue panda which was two kinds of cookie ice cream. My kid got the play dough which I think was vanilla with multi colored cookie dough. Everyone in our group loved the ice cream. I was actually headed to Domoishi for Bubble Tea when I saw a new shop, The Big Scoop. First impression: Their logo, a smiling ice cream cone with arms & legs, reminded me of Mr. Blobby. I went in... lots of flavors to choose from! I've been eating a lot of Salted Caramel recently, so I found it among the many flavors and requested 2 Scoops in a Cake Cone. The server put it together quickly, and gave it to me with a small cup, explaining that the cone might leak. Time to eat. The Salted Caramel was good, but not exceptional. For the nonce I'll stick with Ben & Jerry's Salted Caramel Core. But I'm not giving up in The Big Scoop. I'll return next week to try other flavors. The store was squeaky clean; the 1 person I interacted with was very pleasant. All in all, I like it. One suggestion: When you give a customer a cone, you should include a paper napkin with it. Allergies beware!!! I cannot speak to the quality of their Ice cream products but I can speak of their customer service. Asked about the ingredients in their ice-cream as my son has severe egg and nut allergy. When the clerk asked the manager, he fully rolled his eyes as in disgust, then instead of checking he told his clerk that he couldn't have anything other then frozen ice. He didn't even try. ( I later found their supplier as they don't make their own ice-cream and most of them didn't have eggs or nuts.) We are usually very apologetic people when asking about ingredients/allergy concerns and very rarely post these types of reviews, however he made us feel like we were an inconvenience.
