Cherry on Top
Callan K.

The Peninsula is lovely and steeped in Hollywood glam. Since the Belvedere is on the fancier side my friend and I decided to take advantage of the dineLA dinner, 3 courses for $65. The ambiance is pleasant and the service was professional and attentive albeit a little cold. Between my friend and I we tried almost all options on the dineLA menu. To start we chose the Beet and Burrata Salad and Honeynut Squash Agnolotti. The Beet and Burrata had a lovely presentation with a colorful honeycomb overlay. The flavors of both were fine. The Agnolotti was light enough to be a starter and the Salad was bright and well balanced. For course 2 we opted for Duck a L'Orange and Slow Braised Bone-in Short rib. The Short rib was solid - well cooked and seasoned, and so fun to pull out that big bone. The Duck was also well cooked, but the lighter flavor was over shadowed after having some of the short rib. Finally for desert we chose the Cherry on Top and Popcorn Crème Brûlée. I love popcorn so I was very excited to try it but it fell a little flat, it ended up tasting a bit like burnt kettle corn. The Cherry on Top was a surprise and a delight. I don't think I would have ordered it if it wasn't part of the courses and I'm glad we did. It was whimsical, light, and yummy. There is street parking but also valet for $15.

Thank you Serge for the incredible service and great laughs during our dinner! The bread basket and butter was super dangerous. I loved the cheese thin crackers and warm pretzel bread. Of course I couldn't resist the butter. I ordered the onion soup and that was so filling and delicious. I love onion soup and the flavor was so good!! It can do with a bit more cheese but the broth and amount was perfect. My friend ordered the salmon and mashed potatoes which she loved. Looked like steamed spinach was under the salmon. I had a cucumber martini which was delicious and refreshing. My friend had glasses of champagne it was a celebration last night indeed. We walked over so didn't have to worry about valet but I believe they validate.

The first time I went was for the Mother's day brunch but I went back to see if it's as nice as it was then!! And it was! The food is so amazing, the lychee rose tart is like nothing i've had before. The service is very quick too, they're also very friendly. Such a cute area for the tea, mother's day or not. Definitely a higher end place but extremely worth the money and it's nice to have a fancy outing every once in a while that's worth the price!!

My favorite place for high tea and fancy free living! Best service, harp music, food, tea selection, seating in cozy couch corner, beautiful China, and shopping plus spa to get haircut! Celebrating bdays!

Fritatta, Chicken Sausage and Pancake

A friend and I had a fantastic breakfast at The Belvedere European Brasserie inside The Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. The dining room is spacious, elegant, and filled with beautiful artwork and gorgeous flower arrangements, creating a refined yet welcoming atmosphere. There's also a lovely option to dine al fresco. The menu was fabulous! We shared the Egg White Frittata with roasted vegetables, arugula, and chicken sausage--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. We also enjoyed a generous stack of lemon-zest pancakes that were light, fluffy, and absolutely delicious. A cheesy cracker served with the meal was an unexpected treat--crispy, savory, and bursting with flavor. The coffee was fresh and satisfying. Our servers, Monika and Narcisco, were warm, professional, and attentive, which made our experience even more enjoyable. The Belvedere is a wonderful spot for a relaxing, upscale breakfast in a gorgeous setting and they have a great menu for their lunch and dinner, as well. We will be back. Highly recommended!

Service is always excellent, food is good. Truly a fine dining experience, the noise level here is very quiet.

This beautiful restaurant is fastly becoming one of my favorites! From the absolutely fabulous food, one of my favorite ambience inside and out, and the service that took it right over the top! Our server Narciso was more than accommodating, making all kinds of great recommendations and allowing for special alterations, and the kindness to my service dog just took us all right over the edge. We will definitely go out of our way to come back to this lovely establishment! Head to toe, top notch!

Pistachio crème brûlée

I've been dining here for over 24 years on special occasions. The place was empty on arrival and crowded as could be by 2pm but still quiet. Our waiter was Lyle and he was so nice. He's a Virgo, was highly knowledgeable and engaging. Hope he's my waiter next time. My meal was PERFECT. The branzino was perfectly butterflied and tasty. The lemon risotto was fantastic. The broccoli was nicely seasoned and tender. I'm not usually a fan of risotto or broccoli so I'm glad I didn't ask for substitutions. The champagne had everybody tipsy in no time. I honestly wouldn't have known it was a fancy bottle by just its taste though. I had the pistachio crème brûlée and it wasn't overpowered by pistachio as I figured it might be as it was all pistachio and a bit of strawberries. All in all it was a great meal and I'd order it all again anytime.

Menu for the special Shokupan afternoon tea

Afternoon tea on the terrace at The Belvedere was an incredible experience. We've been to The Living Room at The Peninsula multiple times in the past and loved it, but with COVID numbers rising exponentially we're not planning to return to indoor dining anytime soon. Fortunately, The Belvedere has an outdoor dining option and it is a lovely setting with overhead canopies for shade and a DJ. We came for the special collaboration with Ginza Nishikawa, and it was delightful. The ice cubes with flowers made it even more fun to drink. Some of my favorites from the tea experience were the yuzu ginger lemonade (I had the mocktail version), the cucumber mint and smoked salmon sandwiches (though honestly, all of the sandwiches were delicious), the scones that were baked to perfection accompanied by clotted cream, lemon curd, and raspberry jam, and the ube calamansi macaron, which was bursting with flavor. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and the lucky man got a complimentary tiramisu, which was also delicious. Service was very attentive in the beginning, though it was harder to get anyone's attention after we were done. We ended up having to ask the hostess for our check after a couple bathroom visits and after waiting for what felt like an eternity just paid the bill on the way out. Pro tip: if you don't want to pay for valet, arrive a little early - there's plenty of metered street parking around the block, and on Sundays you don't have to pay :)

Dirty table at Belvedere

Unfortunately a massive disappointment and never a return visit. Wifey and I booked their Thanksgiving dinner 2024. This is not our first go-around with the Peninsula - we've stayed at their sister hotels in New York, Paris and Hong Kong - the latest meal we had was at L'Oiseau Blanc October 2023. We've also spent time at the Bar (see other review) in BH and had delightful meals and drinks. Well nothing could haven been further from Peninsula quality at this Thanksgiving event. While appetizers and bread were top quality, the meal went straight down into the basement from there. I ordered filet mignon, after seeing the literal heap of indistinguishable food, turkey on top, burying green beans and a stuffing that looked like cut up toast, masquerading as "home made." Wifey was brave and went for the turkey, only to blanch and spit out a rock hard bread crust in the pretend stuffing. Nothing was plated - instead everything was mashed together on regular stoneware - not even Peninsula china. Wifey sent the abominable meal back and asked for a replacement. They brought her an appetizer of agnolotti with desiccated white truffle. Truffles are to be kept moist - these slivers had been on the plate for hours. Everything was tasteless, completely without flavor on her plate. My filet was fine, but nothing spectacular by any means. Desserts were fine but again, nothing to write home about. They also left the table dirty and didn't use a crumber, just put the dessert right on the dirty cloth. Not appealing. We had two glasses of Nebbiolo, and I had a vodka martini to start. Total was $520, tip included. Never again. We should have stuck with Citrine or Spago - which we will do next time around.

Endive Salad with Smoked Trout

The Belvedere is the restaurant inside the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. The hotel is located on Santa Monica and Rodeo Drive. Discounted valet parking with validation. Dress code is "smart casual" which means somewhere between business casual and dressy casual but leaning more towards business casual attire than dressy. A buttoned up shirt and slacks for men/women and a nice dress for women would be appropriate. It's on the pricey side, especially the holiday menu, but it was so worth it. Not to mention that the last time I dined out for the holidays was New Years Eve 2020! I celebrated Christmas at the Belvedere. What I loved about the Christmas menu is that it had vegan options. I also noted that they have a plant-based 5 course pre-fixe menu for regular days which has the rutabaga entree I had for Christmas on it. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very beautiful and charming. It has a blue and white motif and an upscale European feel. There is an outside dining area as well as an inside. It's an elegant dining room. There is a velvet long booth with tables in the middle and a regular booth for larger parties on the exterior and also tables that stand alone. I got a wonderful stand alone table in the corner with a perfect view of the piano. I was so happy with where they sat me. They had a pianist playing all the Christmas music. It was absolutely lovely having live music. It really added to the experience. It was the perfect volume too which was just loud enough for holiday background music. A guest stopped by and sang Jingle Bells which was also cool. I heard him say he was "on tour" so I guess he was a professional singer who was walking by. It wasn't planned by the restaurant but it added to the holiday experience and good feelings of community. For the food, I started with an endive salad with smoked trout, citrus emulsion, burnt mandarin, breakfast radish, and pomegranate. They had a vegan option of truffle noodles as well but I was in the mood for some fish as I'm pescatarian. The salad was beautiful to look at. The trout was placed in the middle in the shape of a rose. It had a light dressing. The smoked fish was the star of the dish. It was both light and filling at the same time. My main entree was the plant based option of salt-dough baked rutabaga. It had plant based curd, broken cassis (black current liquor) lovage (a celery like herb) emulsion sauce (Christmas colors of green and red), juniper berry (I think this also part of the sauce), and a coral cracker on top. This dish was also a work of art. I loved the Christmas colors of the sauce. I did have to look up the definition of the food listed on the menu here which means this is a pretty fancy schmancy dish as I consider myself pretty food cultured. I did not get a good picture of this dish so I will describe it here. It looked like it was one rutabaga cut in half. The rutabaga was covered in curd and a crunchy celery like vegetable. It was surrounded by a red and green sauce. Covering the rutabaga was a think cracker like bread. It did look small at first and I was worried it wouldn't be enough but I was satisfied at the end. Dessert was my favorite part of the meal. Send my regards to the pastry chef. I got the spiced bouche noel which was a small Christmas log. It has spiced spongecake, chocolate orange cream, and salted pecan ice cream. It was like a chocolate mousse which I love and on the bottom it had a crunchy crust. It was so beautifully decorated. It brought me so much joy. I also got to try the pear tart ordered by my dining companion. It was also quite stunning and delicious. It had caramelized pears, toasted almond frangipane and Tahitian vanilla ice cream. It was also decorated super cute for Christmas. What a refreshing dessert. The meal came with "Christmas bread" and I had no idea what that meant. It was two muffins: one gingerbread and one cornbread, along with a star and a heart chocolate covered bread. It came at the beginning of the meal but it was more like dessert so we saved it for the end. Overall, I was quite happy with my experience here. It's a nice special occasion restaurant for sure. The crowd was mostly adults but there were some well-behaved children as well. I also love that they cater to plant-based folks. *FINE DINING *SPECIAL OCCASION *SPLURGE *PLANT BASED OPTIONS

wagyu stir fry

This is a true 5 star fine dining experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a private, boujee, romantic dinner date. The indoor dining room is gorgeous and inviting and the outdoor dining space is comfy and chill. They have heaters available outside if needed. From the get go the service was on point. The hostess was very kind and welcoming. The waiter was super friendly, attentive, and helpful. They have an $85 bottomless Laurent Perrier Cuvée Brut Champagne which is a great deal if you prefer premium champagnes over your typical cheap wine bottomless deal. A glass goes for $30 so as long as you drink 3+ glasses it's worth the money! The waiter said "as long as you're willing to stay here and keep drinking you can keep drinking" - no time limit! I had a glass of the Riesling which was light and fresh. They have off the menu specials which we were excited to hear about. I tried the tomato soup which was dairy free and so delicious. We also ordered the wagyu stir fry which was a special and honestly the highlight of the meal. This stir fry was NEXT LEVEL!!! Will definitely come back for that soon ($42). I had the duck breast which was really good but not the best I've ever had. It comes with leek and baked cinnamon apples which is like a nice little dessert! For dessert I ordered the pistachio crème brûlée which was absolutely amazing, just as you'd expect. It came with some pistachio crème or ice cream on top that was just perfect. We also ordered the apple cake which I didn't try, but heard it was great. Will 100% be back here. I love how quiet and private the ambiance feels. You can actually hear yourself talk and not have to worry about screaming over other loud patrons. Even on a Saturday night it wasn't packed and it felt very peaceful and romantic. Bathrooms are clean and fancy. The restaurant is located in a 5 star hotel, the Peninsula and you can find it by walking right through the lobby bar. Highly highly recommend!! If you're looking for a special night out, here's the place!

The escargot was also very flavorful, especially if you enjoy garlic. The bread it comes with is a great touch since you can dip it into the sauce or pour the garlic butter over it. For entrées, we ordered the Atlantic salmon and the rack of lamb. The salmon tasted very fresh, but unfortunately lacked flavor. The rack of lamb -- which is considered their signature dish -- was tender, juicy, and worth trying at least once, but honestly the appetizers stood out more than the entrées for me. However, no photos allowed and I respected the rules of the restaurant. So let me have my words do the photographic build up for Olivetta. We were headed to valet ($20) and somehow lucked into getting one of the very few parking spots right out front, score. We were warmly greeted and walked to our reservation immediately, walking by a rowdy gen x party at the bar adorned in cowboy hats & wanna-be influencers at nearly every table. It's so pretty inside, each room a little different but equally awe inspiring. I loved the vibe and my seat was perfectly placed in front of a giant mirror. My avoidant self did not have to view my reflection, but rather it was like a TV showing me all the hustle and bustle of the restaurant as diners shuffled back and forth to their seats. Watching the crowd was fun. Classy, range of ages, range of demographics but everyone is LA cool. You can be who you want here and Olivetta exemplifies that under their beautiful exterior. We had a perfect server by the way, very friendly and gave just the right level of service, not too much, not too little, just what I like, like I'm Goldilocks of Yelp LA Dining. We started with the squash blossoms, maybe regrettably so, as we had a hard time choosing an app. I'll try something else next time as they underwhelmed me. A nice crisp on the flowers but the stems were a bit much and I just found this dish to be aiight. Now the pastas I absolutely loved. We tried two and just adored them both. I was actually surprised at how good the portions were for such a classy, cute place. The Creste di Gallo was a sensation for the eyes and mouth, with a fun tableside creation of this dish. There's a generous shaving of cheese and delectable bone marrow in the dish, really great flavor and consistency. The Agnolotti was equally, if not even more, creamy and delicious. I was so full but could not stop eating this rich sauce over sage cream sauce and dried sage leaves. The roasted carrots were a nice accompaniment with our meal over a puffed feta bed sprinkled generously with pistachio and dill. Despite being full, we were still able to get through about half of the Chocolate Olive Oil Cake which was fluffy and soft with a chocolate ganache to pour over the top. I wouldn't have minded if this came with gelato or ice cream, just a tad but it was still a solid dessert. I do wish they had some non-alcoholic items like hot tea or coffee or espresso to go with dessert, they only had alcoholic offerings. Prior to beginning dinner, we did order some drinks. They had 3 Mocktails on their menu and were out of 1, so my friend and I ordered the only 2 mocktails ($16 a pop) options on offer. We found them okay - just fine, but wished they were excellent or more NA options were available & more care was intended for those of us who are Cali sober. Other than drinks though, I absolutely loved Olivetta. I'll absolutely be back to try more on the menu and I'm sitting here craving the Agnolotti, omggggggg it was so bomb. I def will be copping that dish again.

If you're looking for amazing, fine dining experience in LA--a place to toast a or celebrate the…read morepurchase of a minor-league sports team--end your search now. It's Somni. When the original iteration of this extravagant tasting menu restaurant debuted in 2018 in the back of the SLS Hotel, it was a stunner from day one. Now, a pandemic intermission and a relocation to West Hollywood later, Somni 2.0 operates on an even higher level. Somni is not only the most expensive restaurant in Los Angeles, it's also one of the most expensive in the country. The tasting menu starts at $745 actually, you're dealing with a meal that can cost as much as a family trip to legoland. Somni makes it clear from the first of 20-plus courses where your money is going. As you're led into a tree-draped courtyard outside the converted bungalow where the restaurant is housed (it used to be a Donna Karan store), the night begins with a champagne flute of frothed-up mandarin juice and a spread of carnival-coded snacks: popcorn-flavored leaves, a feather made of parmesan, and a big trompe l'oeil almond shell that cracks under your teeth like candy. Somni's chef cooked under José Andres and came up in the tongue-in-cheek school of fine dining made famous by Spain's El Bulli--so whimsy-heavy dishes like a cartoonish mushroom sandwich boosted with truffle, or a sashimi-like sardine tart on an oversized goldfish cracker are par for the course. But Somni's Spanish-leaning creations never sacrifice deliciousness for cleverness. An obscenely generous mound of caviar over a dissolving puff of dashi-flavored meringue is so delicious that all you can do is sigh. Beef tartare is delicately stuffed inside a tempura shiso leaf that's fried so it inflates like a crab shell, all but defying physics. A fair number of dishes use foams and flowers at Somni, but there's nothing dainty about the flavors here. The food is only half of what you'll remember, though. The dining room's 14 seats gently curve around a long kitchen counter like front-row seats to a play. The servers are cooks and vice versa. Many of them wear Secret Service earpieces. There's a natural choreography to how they breeze around the room, but no moment in the three-hour production comes across rehearsed for someone that's paralyzed. That's great news A beverage pairing is required Even if you choose the most inexpensive option-- over 100 Still, if you're willing to make the investment, Somni does not disappoint. A meal at this theatrical tasting menu spot is nothing short of incredible--just know it's incredibly expensive, too.

Service: A+ Food: A+…read moreDecor and ambiance: A+ An unforgettable culinary experience. I want to recognize all the hard work, passion, and dedication Chef Zabala and his team brought to this extraordinary meal. My wife and I arrived early. I strongly recommend arriving early, since all guests are seated at the same time. All guests are served at the same time - by a highly synchronized team effort. Dress code exists. My wife wore a stunning dress. Me - in a long sleeve, khakis, and dress shoes. I recommend, for male guests, to dress better than I did. Definitely a jacket. The experience starts with warm, friendly smiles as you enter through the door. From there, you will be taken to the outdoor patio area, where tables, seats, hanging decor, and IG picturesque trees await. It's a start to what will be a wonderful experience. Then you will be taken indoors. Inside there is seating for 14. Seating is styled like a curved line. Two sides. You will face the Chef and his team. Plating will take place in front of you, and then taken to each person with synchronized style and grace. I felt like I was watching a conductor conduct a culinary symphony with his orchestra. Food? Unbelievable. Beautiful, creative, and complex. Look at the photos. The dedication it takes to dream of a deconstructed pizza and rebuilt by gastronomy, then executed with precision. And devoured by a few quick mouthfuls, yet fully savored. Service is rhythmic, synchronized, and attentive. Rhythmic because there is a pace, a rhythm set by the courses. Synchronized because the staff work in unison. Attentive because they feel and respond to the pulse of each guest. The wine pairing? Spot on. Team member Caroline did an excellent job here. Even when stuffed to the brim, I would not let a single drop of wine go to waste. No way, down the hatch it goes. On that note, get a rideshare or taxi. Last, Chef Zabala. His passion and dedication are noteworthy. To invent his dishes, to make them, to perfect them, and then to serve them. I can only imagine how much behind-the-scenes work it takes. An artist, a culinary magician, and a dedicated master to his craft. Thank you!

The food is so fresh and homemade and gives you a true taste of Russian/Ukrainian food! Our go-to's are always the Borscht soup, Darniskty Salad, Pelmeni, and Chicken Tabaka. They also always bring out some fresh Russian bread for FREE and they are super giving on the portion. The soup is a 10/10, reminds me of the Hong-Kong style borscht soup. Comforting, healthy, and hearty! The salad is by far the major reason I keep coming back. The dill, fresh tomato slices, salty onion, and cucumber with a little zest is so tasty and again super healthy! The pelmeni and tabaka are classics you can never go wrong with. The pelmeni also reminds me of Chinese pork dumplings and are absolutely delicious with their fresh sour cream dipping sauce. Our recent visit, we were sat on the exterior part of their restaurant and it was a bit chilly and windy so the owner provided me and my partner blankets! How sweet and thoughtful. Service is super friendly, just be mindful that it can be a little slow occasionally depending on reserved parties that day.

Today, however, I went with one of their signature items--chicken blintzes in porcini mushroom sauce. The dish was simply incredible, the baked crepe covered in cheese, the meat filling delicious, super tender, just melting in your mouth. Especially when you dip a piece of the blintzes into the mushrooms sauce, it's a homerun. Plethora of flavors all working beautifully together to give you that "Oh Woooow" feeling of satisfaction. Definitely a must try here. The design here is rustic, old school Ukrainian-Russian, with a lot of wood finishes. The customer service here is consistently amazing. Will definitely be back again!

Dinner and a show!…read more We went to Romanov for a birthday party on a Saturday night. Riding the elevator with another couple, we were asked if we'd been here before, probably because we were not Russian. They said we would be in for a treat. Boy were they right! It is an ornate lounge with chandeliers, live performers, and a dance floor. Apparently, we were told, a very popular place for any celebration by the older Russian generation. It is truly a unique experience, especially for an introvert who loves to stay home. The place was packed with mostly large groups that were ready for a fun night out. The first course/appetizer spread is extensive. Mostly cold dishes from carpaccio and roe to avocado salad and cheese. This is accompanied by soda and vodka. After about an hour, the place gets loud and lively with a mix of traditional Russian songs and classic American. People flock to the dance floor where the lights change color. It felt like a wedding or bar mitzvah reception. Honestly, was so fun to watch the dancing but way too loud to chat with anyone. When everyone needed a break, the second course came out which was home style potatoes and an assortment of grilled meats. These were delicious and more to my taste. Unfortunately, we had to leave around 1015p, but it felt like the majority of the crowd was prepared to stay much longer. Parking is valet but we found a nearby structure at the Bank of America building.

Around 1am, their sound system stopped working, and instead of resolving it promptly, they struggled with it for over 30 minutes with no clear communication or urgency. We understand that technical issues can happen, but what matters is how they're handled. There was no meaningful update, no contingency plan, and no effort to accommodate guests who specifically came for the music. After waiting half an hour with nothing happening, we had no choice but to leave. Never returning, the sound system is not that complicated, get your things together, Romanov!!

Honestly didn't have much expectation but I stand corrected. Most orders were tapas portions (except the pizzas although still reasonably portioned) which allowed us to try several selections off the menu. Can't pick a favorite as they were all exceptional. And the drinks were also top notch. 1. Asian pear and Brie pizza: excellent. The leftovers were also just as exceptional. Flat bread pizza (6 small thin slices) topped with guava fromage, arugula, slices of Asian pears for the slight crunch and sweetness. Fantastic. Just order 2. Shawarma tacos: Smokey chicken with cabbage and pickled onions. Very good. 3. Tripoline Pasta: handmade pasta with pasilla pepper cream and romesco (to give it a creamy and nutty texture with a slight spicy kick). Phenomenal. Ended up ordering a second. A must order!!! Also had the love letter cocktail which was the best. Japanese whiskey with toasted marshmello garnish which gave it a sweet and Smokey flavor to the cocktail. Well done Bacari!!! Definitely another stop or two soon.

Our waitress, Moe, was kind, patient, and honestly one of the sweetest people ever! She spoke so highly about how much she loves working there and how great her manager, Leah, is. Moe never missed a beat -- she was attentive, reliable, and always responsive to our needs. Hearing an employee genuinely praise their work environment is rare, especially in the restaurant industry! Now, Leah was incredible! I had no idea she was the manager because she worked right alongside the team with such humility. She personally walked us to our table and had the warmest, most welcoming demeanor. She was friendly, attentive, and accommodating to everyone's needs. I also want to mention the hostess -- I didn't catch her name, but she was a very kind young lady as well. The food was absolutely delicious and came out surprisingly fast for such a packed restaurant. Cheers to the kitchen staff, too! And honestly, one thing I can say about Bacari is that the food has always been consistently good. I truly think the other Bacari locations could learn a thing or two from this one! I say that because I haven't always had the best experiences at the other locations. Thank you, Moe, Leah, and the entire team for giving my mom, dad, and me such a dream Mother's Day brunch experience!
