We pulled in, found a spot immediately, and somehow survived the ordeal. Then the seating. My wife and I managed to endure the horrifying experience of sitting on a wooden bench while eating amazing barbecue. The restaurant was busy, which I foolishly interpreted as a sign that people enjoy eating there. As a couple, we spent around $50 and immediately regretted... not ordering more brisket. I was genuinely offended by how quickly it disappeared. The sauces were terrible if your goal is choosing just one. I kept going back for "one more taste" until I had sampled all of them multiple times. Now the food... Lord, the brisket. Moist, smoky, and somehow the complete opposite of everything I was warned about. The mac and cheese was great, the baked beans were great, and the sweet potato crunch actually had crunch. The only reason I'm giving this place five stars is because Yelp won't let me give six. Left disappointed in only one thing: that I don't live closer.

They have a large selection and almost everything is home made. We were greeted promptly and welcomed with a friendly smile by the cashier. We ordered ribs and a side of pork. We were disappointed with the ribs . It was the end cut and they were overcooked and dry. Very disappointing compared to prior photos I have seen. The nightlight of the visit was the cobbler. It was wonderful. Served warm with a scoop of ice cream. We would return and hope for a better serving of ribs.

I told myself I wasn't going to eat BBQ on the rest of this trip after my recent experiences, but I…read morejust couldn't help myself after seeing "competition style BBQ" on the nameplate. Opening the door, you are immediately hit with BBQ smoke flavor. I was getting pumped. I ordered a tornado and the rib and brisket platter just to get a sample of everything. I picked the Mac n cheese as a side. The platter came with a half link of jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage which was the best thing on the tray. The tornado was ok. The brisket portion was pretty weaksauce. I'm paying $30 to sample some brisket and I only get two slices? Ouch. It was ok. The ribs were not smoky at all, and there could have been more rub for bark and flavor. Sauces were average. Mac n cheese was inedible for me as it just tasted like butter and noodles. Place was rockin with a lot of people, but overall, would not go back.

It was lunch time and I wanted to try a few different things to see what they were doing here. I got a brisket sandwich, which was ok (I did not discern any smoked flavor) but the portioning was underwhelming. The cheese did not add anything to the sandwich. I also ordered a hot link and I ended up adding several slices of the link to the underwhelming sandwich to give it some substance. And lastly, I ordered a mac & cheese eggroll - ok, but nothing special. This was a take out order and I got the hot BBQ sauce, which was pretty good. Overall, the BBQ here is just middling and I've had much better. Maybe some of the other menu options would change my mind, but doubtful I'll return. One other item of note - this business will add on a 2% hospitality tax, a 2.5% take out tax and a 2.99% credit card surcharge to your bill (if you pay by credit card). I don't know if these additional taxes are manditory state or local taxes, but I would presume so. When the anti-tax morons scream and cry about property taxes and income taxes, this is what you end up with. And everyone is adding credit card surcharges now, so no surprise there. There is of course an additional sales tax added on the order, which I presume is the standard state sales tax. For those of you who are mathematically challenged, there is also an handy Suggested Additional Tip chart at the bottom of your receipt, if you are so inclined. It's based on check price before discounts and taxes and will tell you so.

The atmosphere is casual and fun, the sides are always solid, and the brisket has great flavor. My only hesitation lately has been the brisket itself. The last few times I've ordered it, the pieces I've received have been much fattier than I prefer, to the point where a noticeable portion of the serving ends up being fat rather than meat. I know brisket naturally has some fat and that's part of what makes it good, but recently it's felt a little excessive. That said, the flavor is still there and I'll absolutely keep coming back. I'd just love to see a little more consistency in the cuts being served. Overall, still a great local spot and an easy four stars for me.
