Not sure what is wrong with the leasing office. They sent me a express cleaning form in which they told me to submit a paper check along with the complete form. Okay, I did that as instructed. Strangely, they deducted the cleaning cost from my security deposit instead. So, I wrote to the manager Evelin Alonso more than a month ago to try to get back my paper check. She said the paper check was sent to their "residential centralize service", and she would request that the check be mailed back to me. After more than a month, I have never received my paper check. I called the manager a number of times, but no one ever picked up the phone call. I also wrote back to her to follow up, but she never bothered to respond. Incredible! I called the front desk instead. The guy Kevin picked up my phone call last week, and he took down my info and said he would follow up with the manager for this matter. Once again, after about a week, I heard back nothing, and still never receive my paper check. I think I got to call my bank tomorrow to stop payment for the check in order to avoid being double charged for the express cleaning. Overall, terrible experience. Consumers must be aware of this place. Many of the positive reviews made previously no longer apply at this time. There have been significant personnel changes in the management in the past few months, and I think things are getting worse, and it is a good idea to consider other options if there are choices...... Also watch out for the grumpy and unhappy front desk folk typically present in the morning at the weekends. That front desk seems to have particular problem with people of East Asian ethnicity. I am not sure why, but from all I could tell her behaviors demonstrated that she is a racist against people of East Asian ethnicity. How so? For example, her visual expression towards residents who are East Asians typically ranges from indifference to being angry, anything but not a friendly smile, but when towards some other residents of some other ethnicities, it is quite a huge difference. In addition, she typically spoke in a angry and annoyed intonation when speaking with residents of East Asian ethnicity, but with a friendly intonation when speaking with residents who are not East Asians. In addition, when she spoke with residents of East Asian ethnicities, she typically use a low language register and pick lexical items that are much less courteous than what she would typically speak with residents who are not East Asians, treating residents of East Asian ethnicities as if they were not residents, and clearly not even treating such people as her equals. Finally, I shall share an incredibly negative experience. It was in August during the weekend in the morning that I made a phone call to the front desk. It happened that this lady in the front desk picked up my phone. At the beginning of the call, everything was normal. However, after she looked up my apt number and saw that my name appeared to be like a name of a person of an East Asian ethnicity, she then put me on hold for "a minute". I waited for like 15 minutes, and she never connected back. So, I hanged up after waiting for 15 minutes. She never bothered to call back. This is one of the most unforgettable experiences I had in this apt. This experience shows that there is an urgency that the racist attitude of some staff members discriminating against residents of East Asian ethnicities must be addressed. If all these differential treatments are not exemplifying the fact that she discriminating against East Asians, what else could be? Based on these observed behaviors, I conclude that this front desk is a racist, and I highly recommend prospective residents of East Asian ethnicities to consider this matter when considering their options of future housing. That being said, if you are a sociologist or a sociolinguistic who is interested in understanding different forms of manifestation of racism against East Asians in the area of housing, I would highly recommend this apt, and I assure you that you will find many interesting first hand experiences and observations that will be very useful for your research project. read more

Yesterday I went to tour the property. Something told me not to do it because my mind was already made up about Met Acadia next door, but I couldn't shake my curiosity. I was escorted up to the rooftop to meet Michael, the leasing consultant. I love him so much! He is seriously my brother from another mother! Okay, okay, back to the tour. This place is bananas! Everything from the finishings in the different floor plans to the amenities, I LOVE IT. Normally I tell leasing agents that I need time to think about it, but I told Michael that my mind was made up even before we got to the apartment that I would eventually lease the same day. He answered all of my questions as honestly and legally (lol) as he could, and I really appreciate that. Michael is the type of person you need to give your tours because he is AMAZEBALLS. He takes you into every nook and cranny of the property and he takes his time which I appreciated. I actually looked at my apartment 4 times and he never once made it seem like I was being annoying by asking him to view it again. I felt like I was hanging out with my best friend because he seriously is the best! His personality seriously played a role of about 98% in me leasing immediately. If you're considering Met Acadia, I sincerely ask you to please check out The Bartlett. Your search will end immediately! I'm sad that I can't move in until May because of my current lease, but believe me, I would've moved in last night if I could. Thank you Michael. I will always love you lol! read more

Yes, this place looks fancy but it isn't consistent. We've been here for 2 months already and there are several things that irk me. 1) The concierge staff needs to be switched out. They're rarely there, under-trained (one even raised his finger at me to give him a minute when I was the only person there...that's rude), socially awkward, are never there to let guests of tenants in (I've had to head downstairs more than once to let my guests in because the intercom is still not working), or overwhelmed because they're understaffed. 2) Our apartment is nice but things like stray marks on the wall, a small ripped piece in the furniture when we first moved in, paint marks in random places, the cabinet above the fridge is upside down, and the screen on the window improperly aligned...all these things irk me. 3) When we first moved in, there was writing on the elevator door, "B*itch, why you..." (that my husband said was probably written by one of the construction workers) that took them about 2 weeks to take off, dirt and debris on our balcony that we had to sweep off ourselves, constant construction going on in the units above/next to ours, and hearing the construction workers/contractors arguing in the hallway. 4) The vents SUCK in the apartments. Either our fire alarm is going off or someone else's is. Bottom line: It's an decent place but it really isn't the way it's been marketed. Just know what you're getting into if you're going to lease long-term. They have a long way to go in terms of refining themselves. read more

To start off the building is beautiful and 99% of the staff is friendly and helpful. That being said the 1% that is the problem is Tiffany Backass.She comes off as nice but in reality when her claws come out she is fake shady and does many unethical things that the management company should be aware of.She claims she runs The Bartlett and that she is untouchable.Somehow I don't know how she can work there and go have drinks during weekday during afternoon business hours.She is real unprofessional. I was trying to get around her to go into the Whole Foods as she was coming from there and there was a resident infront of me who didnt realize I was behind her and when I politely asked the resident after about a minute and Tiffany saw I was behind the resident if I could get through. The resident said hi and she was sorry and Tiffany proceeded to say why are you moving for him he is nobody. I told her she was rude and disgusting and that I would report to corporate and expose her for all her nasty antics and she replied in saying corporate wont do anything because she runs The Bartlett. I feel bad that the company has no idea of this rude individual that makes the management team look bad. I wish corporate would contact me so I can really tell them EVERYTHING unethical that she does and is involved in. read more

Staff was friendly during the application process, until I decided I was not going to live there. Refused to refund the $500 deposit (when they said it would also only be $250), stating that it is not refundable after 48hrs. Basically paid $550 for an application for an apartment that was not available that I toured. Stay as far away as possible from this apartment and management company. We absolutely love living here. The amenities (pool, pizza oven, grills, game rooms, gym, work bar, public spaces) are amazing - the only thing we would love to see that isn't there is an outdoor fire pit and/or heaters so we could enjoy the outside space year-round! Tiffany hosts fantastic events all the time - I don't know how she does it! They are all super classy (complimentary beer/wine!) and unique (floral design last night was a blast). Several of the staff members are exceedingly helpful and pleasant, especially Jahmaal, Tiffany, and Selam. Our apartment is lovely - we particularly like all of the windows, the view, the high ceilings, the stainless steel appliances, and the large bathtub. read more

We've only been here for a week, but we love everything about the Bartlett. Starting with the leasing agents, they were very helpful with finding the right apartment for us - very professional and friendly. The concierge staff, primarily Fatu because she's the only one we've gotten to know so far, is wonderfully pleasant, courteous, and helpful. The common amenities are amazing with a robust gym, business work area with conference rooms and iMacs for use, and leisure areas like the roof pool and BBQ/lounge area with beautiful city views. Our apartment is very nice with a modern design and appliances, and with a breath-taking view. Lastly, the residents seem to be rather friendly or at least courteous. The square footage vs price seems to be rather standard in the area, although smaller than what we are used to. With the metro only 2 short blocks away and so much to do in the neighborhood, I think we are going to really enjoy it here. We highly recommend the Bartlett. read more

It's a luxury apartment complex with the newest of amenities, spacious apartment layouts and the most friendly and helpful residence staff I've ever worked with. Your family and friends will be in awe when they come visit because this apartment complex has everything you'll ever need in an apartment and it looks beautifully opulent. I also want to give a call out to the maintenance staff - the common spaces are always clean and when you request a "work order" they respond within the day and provide detailed notes as to what they did and/or are going to do. This place feels like home, they treat you like royalty and it's a great lifestyle to live!!! read more

This is an update after actually moving in and living at the Bartlett for 6 months. Elevators were constantly broken and inoperable. One of my neighbors told me horror stories about the noise from the gym disturbing her in the middle of the night and she was 4 floors above the gym. New management took over and issues with the building seemed to get worse rather than better. At any rate, I moved out of state and scheduled a walk through first thing in the morning on my last day. I decided to get on the road early and called the leasing office at noon to ensure the walk through found no issues. Jamal told me they still hadn't completed the walk through. Thank goodness I didn't stick around waiting on them! Getting management to follow through on issues or concerns was a major issue with the staff so I told Jamal I'd just call the manager the next day because he said she was off that day. Jamal ended up calling me back later in the afternoon to tell me the apartment was spotless and I'd receive my full deposit back. I received a check a month later and they shorted my deposit refund $108 with no explanation why! I left it spotless and they told me I would get the entire deposit back. I would personally never rent with them again should I find myself back in the area. They have too many management issues. Not to mention, the law requires them to submit a statement of fees when they short your refunded deposit. And of course now I can't get a leasing office representative on the phone. Looks like I may have to call their corporate office. read more

The services have deteriorated here since I moved in in Nov. Today I had an emergency, I left a pan on the stove with the burner on when I went to a medical appt. I called over 6 times and go only voice mail. I left 4-5 messages this was an emergency. Never got a call from The Bartlett in answer to my VMs. In a panic as there was the potential for serious fire damage and I had left my service animal in the apt I was very distressed. I had to end up calling 911 for the fire department to come out and turn off the burner. All because in a building with over 25 staff I could not reach one to come and turn off a burner in my apt. Other more minor but frustrations with phone.......often no front desk coverage. They do not have enough staff to cover desk. This is a 700 unit building and only one person to do deliveries, help people coming to desk, and answer phones. Their BUDGET will not allow more but this is the highest rent building in Pentagon City!!!!!!!! All they have for residents is excuses it isn't in the budget to provide us a 5 star service for what we pay. All the bells and whistles do not make up for the extraordinary poor customer service. I have lived in highrise living since 1977 and have always been able to reach a desk person or someone to help when calling the building desk. THE BARTLETT FRONT DESK HAS VERY LIMITED SERVICE. My husband and I first toured The Bartlett and had a wonderful experience viewing all the amenities and speaking with some of the residents. We met with Selam on our second visit and she has a wonderful personality and seems to love what she does. We viewed a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment on the 15th floor and when we walked into the apartment, the smell of dog urine was so repugnant and there were two stains on the carpet as you entered the first bedroom. We inquired about the smell and asked did the previous owner have a dog and we were told the resident did not and perhaps the smell was due to the residents cleaning with cheap supplies or a dirty mop. We returned last week Tuesday and revisited the same apartment, #15xx we asked Selam about the smell and she too agreed that the smell was awful and smelled like a dog was still occupying the space. We went down stairs and headed to the leasing office and upon discussing the unsanitary conditions of the apartment, Tiffany, the residential manager asked what was going on. We explained the situation and Tiffany said the previous tenants did in fact have a dog. Selam interjected and said the previous tenants did not have a dog listed on their leasing agreement. Tiffany further explained the apartment was not turned over yet. (fully cleaned). I found that strange because we were told it was cleaned and the carpet was visibly vacuumed from when we viewed the apartment on our first visit and they tried to remove the stains. I asked if the carpets could be replaced and if they could ensure the urine smell would be removed. Tiffany explained that they would not remove the carpets or guarantee the smell would be removed. She explained "our nose sensitivities are all different" she went further to explain that we could put our deposit down but if the smell was not gone and we decided not to move in we would not get a refund on our deposit! The entire situation was absurd, to show an apartment that was not cleaned properly and then to suggest that we could wait to see if it was cleaned thoroughly with the smell perhaps being removed and hope that the apartment would be available at a later date. Tiffany however provided helpful information: we could/should apply because the move in promotion would not be available after 10 ten days of viewing an apartment.......... thank you for the advice but NO THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I am glad I see how they value future tenants and it gave me a peak into how they treat/handle current resident issues/maintenance problems A quick note to the Bartlett: If you have a future resident ready to sign a lease and the apartment smells like urine, spend the money and replace the carpet! Oh and the call we were supposed to receive on Friday, no need to call I am sure you had no intentions. Any amount of money is a lot of money when you work hard for it! To pay over $3000 in rent to receive sub-par service and dismissive attitudes is a precursor of the response and service The Bartlett provides. Selam thank you for trying to resolve the situation and being a great Ambassador of what the Bartlett should provide. read more

PROS: -Events: Tiffany does a fantastic job planning very intricate and fun events for the building and is very accommodating if you ever need to borrow supplies. -Selam, Tiffany, and Jamaal have been a power team since the Bartlett opened and they are always friendly and helpful. In my mind, the Bartlett still struggles to find a concierge as talented as Jamaal. -Whole Foods downstairs -Metro accessible CONS: -There's a new apartment building being built on Army/Navy Drive which has completely obstructed our view of the Washington Monument (one of our initial selling-points for the Bartlett). Along with the no-view, we also wake up to constant construction racket every morning. Management still hiked up our rent when we renewed this year. -Amenity fee: apparently this is an annual fee. Additionally, residents have to pay monthly shared utilities fees for common spaces, spaces of which we are now restricted in use (details below). -Event spaces: This is a pro and con. Pro because we have beautiful spaces. Con because there are people who leave these spaces trashed. I have personally spoken to people having parties up there and they've been AirBnB guests, not residents. The Bartlett has put a policy in place to limit resident's guests in the amenity spaces, but what they should really consider, instead of restricting people's freedom, and a space that we are all paying too dearly for, is ramping up their security to make sure people's parties don't get too loud & crazy. It's my understanding also that residents need to PAY to reserve the amenity spaces, which is absurd given the extremely high cost of living here. Note to Management: It's very unfortunate that there are more cons than pros for us and we will not be renewing our lease when the time comes. I think JBG Smith should have put more thought into accommodating their current residents (especially those who have been here since the building opened and have lived through all of the growing pains) during renewal time in an effort to maintain potential long-term residents in this very transient city. There is a lot of new construction, and other competitive areas to live within the Pentagon City area. If I had written this review during my first year living at the Bartlett, it would have been 4/5 stars, but the effects of the management company change combined with the building's non-interest in offering current residents good renewal incentives, especially taking into consideration the terrible construction obstruction and noise, has hindered that possibility. read more

The location can't get any better with the access to the metro two blocks away, private entrance to Whole Foods and places like Costco, Wells Fargo, Starbucks and Duncan Donuts around the corner. I wrote a negative review about 4 months ago, but I'm re-writing this review to say that the management team has taken into consideration the complaints they have received from residents and improved the experience. I had been concerned with the garage security and the time it took to get an elevator, which is no longer an issue. Also, the front desk has been promptly notifying me of packages I receive. We needed some extra accommodations and management was super helpful in making the arrangements. Tiffany, the resident manager, always goes the extra mile to help us with anything we need. When looking for an apartment in the Pentagon City area there are very few, if any, apartments that have the view, amenities and conveniences offered by the Bartlett. I signed my lease shortly after their grand opening and the place is just outstanding. I've been here for about 2 months. The community amenities are good, and the Resident Experience Manager is phenomenal, and does a really good job at planning inclusive and interesting events, even though the residents seem not to be super sociable. I have no complaints about the front desk staff either - I think they're great. I also like that the staff will greet you by name, and that they seem even to know the name of pets. This is pretty much where it ends. On the negative side, you literally pay for everything here and it is not immediately evident at the time of signing the lease. Case in point, you will pay for EVERY utility, since none of them are included in the rent. This includes water, trash, sewer, gas and a 'service fee'. Only the electricity is metered directly at your apartment. Everything else is based on a master bill, so there is no predictability about how much your utility bill will be based on your personal usage. Case in point, I hardly ever cook and I've been out of town, yet my utility bills are as high as if I never left. I am also worried to learn that there will be nearby construction of new complexes by the same company, which I'm worried will obstruct the current "DC view" apartments here. As a previous reviewer said, some of the finishings are a bit rushed. The paint in the apartment is very easily damaged by simple cleaning, and the stainless steel sink is extremely delicate and scratch prone. The venting is terrible. You will set off your alarm by frying an egg, and in the apartment configurations that don't have a window in the bedroom (they exist), the ventilation is so poor it's unhealthy. read more

I am a former resident and I hope this review will help the future residents. The Pros: -The community is beautiful and in a very convenient location. Gorgeous views if you are facing DC and if your unit it not facing D.C, the amenities make up for it. The rooftop is breathtaking. The amenities at the Bartlett have really exceeded my expectations. I fell in love with the building for that reason especially since I work from home. -Noise Level/Maintenance: I never had any issues with noise or hearing my neighbors next to me or above me. Of course this may vary but I'm just speaking from my personal experience. I was also very impressed with the appliances. Great quality and fast service in terms of getting maintenance if needed. The Cons: -MANAGEMENT: HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT. I can write a novel about how drastically the building quality decreased as a result of their change in management from Vorando to JBG Smith. I would love to know how they even hired these people to work there who clearly do not have any management or professional skills. It feels like college interns are operating this building. For the amount of rent people pay, this is shame. I paid over $3,000 for my unit and the price it came with does not match the quality of the management team at all. Let me stress the importance of management. I am an entrepreneur and I can assure you that the management team who runs behind the business makes a significant difference in how the customer/clients are being treated and the overall performance of the business. The community group page has expressed their frustrations and disappointments on a daily basis. JBG Smith is ruining the experience of many residents there. Let me also address another SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM: HOTELS. This just ruins the experience for the residents who are paying thousands of dollars. I did not sign a lease to live in a hotel. If I wanted a hotel, I would have gone to the Ritz Carlton down the street. As a result, the elevators are constantly delayed. If you are trying to get to work, be prepared to leave at least 15-20 minutes so that you can stand there and wait for the elevator. I have never walked into the building without seeing strangers with their luggages. They also take over the amenities! Why is management charging the residents $500 in amenity fees so that strangers can hotel and use our amenities free of charge? This is absurd! Security: Non-existent. Anyone can walk in at any time as they please. This is the first time I ever lived in a high-rise building where the security was non-existent and management is doing absolutely nothing to increase it, even though many residents have addressed it with them. So if you are looking to pay high-rent and have no security, sign a lease with them. If you want security, find another property. Be Aware: Future residents - be aware of DOG URINE AND FECES. I have found it in the elevators on numerous occasions. Management is not doing anything about addressing this issue that COUNTLESS residents have complained about. This beautiful building is going to deteriorate if they continue down this path. Such a shame to let this happen. Ultimately, this is my advice to future residents. If you are in the DC/Arlington area for a short period of time and you need a short-term lease up to 6 months, the location is great and you could manage to stay here if you are fine with high rent, high amenity fees, no security, dog feces and urine, no security, and poor management. If you are looking to lease longer than 12 months, don't settle for The Bartlett. Finally, my advice to the Bartlett - IMPROVE YOUR MANAGEMENT. Hire a company that will make your residents satisfied with your building and people who will go out of their way to make it a safe and wonderful community. read more

ANT INFESTATION - unless you want to live amongst ants, I would take my $$ elsewhere. I just moved in last month and travel a lot for work. Imagine my surprise when I came back to a 14th floor unit filled with ants crawling all over the bedroom, bathroom and closet. Not just a few - you literally could not take a step without touching one. It took 48 hours from when I first contacted about the issue until they were able to arrange for a service to come in. The chemical powder was sprayed all over my things so the number of ants has been reduced...but the cleanup has not been fun. I was compensated $100 towards my rent (that is about 23x that) despite having to crash with a friend for a majority of the week. While I appreciate the asthma inducing spraydown temporarily quelled the insect rush, I am concerned by management's apathy towards having ants infesting the walls/baseboards of this building. read more

I am staying here during a 90 day work detail. It's always hard to be away from home for that long, but the staff and accommodations at the Bartlett make it much easier. My room is very comfortable being fully furnished. I love the fitness room along with the extra room for classes. I have my iPad that I can plug in and use my own workouts, or use one of the preloaded workouts. I love the outdoor BBQs with room to lounge outside, or inside or you can play pool or foosball. It's just a great, comfortable place. I would recommend this to anyone for a short or long stay. Also, pets are welcome. read more
