I was even able to successfully host a lovely bridal shower at the East rooftop and I still get compliments on the view weeks later. Pros: 1) New Building 2) Whole Foods downstairs 3) Friendly residents 4) Can't hear the neighbors ever 5) Great shopping/food in neighborhood, very walkable in general. 6) Resident events offered 7) Amenities, especially gym and rooftop areas are nice. Cons: 1) Parking entrance/gate system is a joke 2) Some concierge could care less about being people customer oriented. 3) Windows seem very average for being new and double pane. Hear Street and construction noises easily. 4) Elevators are either super fast or a legit 3-5 minute wait, which is insane for having eight elevators total 5) The paint/wall is a super weird texture and basically anything causes slight "damage". I'm sure my deposit will be gone due to that. 6) Construction by the metro has closed the main sidewalk down, not the building's fault at all, but still a negative for the residents. I'll be moving out at end of my lease, nonetheless. For not being a DC building, the property is not worth the cost for me anymore, given the cons listed. read more

Update: Packages are still a mess. It's often over 12 hours before we get a notification of a delivery. We had a package delivered yesterday and today the front desk told me that they didn't know where it was and that I should check next door with The Acadia (shocker, they don't have it). The front desk person was unbelievably lazy and didn't offer to help and suggested I call UPS. I asked to go back and look in the package room, got a very snotty "knock yourself out," and I found it within 30 seconds. Zero apologies or cares from her end. Service is TERRIBLE. Original Review: This is definitely a luxury apartment building. The units and overall building are beautiful and they certainly do a good job at planning events. However, I will agree with other comments that for the price we pay, the experience is disappointing. 1) When we moved in, our smoke/carbon monoxide detector kept going off as soon as we turned the oven to broil (even before putting food in). After a couple times of this happening we put in a service request and found out we had a carbon monoxide leak. My husband had been slow roasting ribs in the oven for four hours the day before we found this out. I emailed three people on the staff from the portal to let them know about the problem as they were still finishing up other units and received zero response. When I finally told someone in person, the response was "oh ok, thanks for letting us know." I felt like they couldn't care less. Great foot to start off on. 2) There have been several times that we know a package has arrived but won't get an email till the following day. We also once had frozen food delivered (in a box with PERISHABLE printed all over it) and four hours later hadn't received an email. We checked at the desk and they couldn't find it because it wasn't on our shelf and was "too large to go in the fridge." The food was almost completely defrosted. They had no excuse for not scanning it in except for that it was too big to fit in the fridge. 3) Elevators are TERRIBLE. End of story. 4) Our "secure garage" has been open on and off over the past month due to technical difficulties over. 5)The gym is amazing as far as apartment gyms go. However, people don't seem to care to put their weights away. About 50% of the time that I go into the gym, weights are left on the barbells or equipment is left on the floor. It drives me absolutely nuts. You're at the gym - don't be lazy; put your stuff away. 6) Our larger dog has torn one of her nails twice on the grates that are at the front and back entrance. The space in the grates is the perfect size to catch her nail and she is still terrified to walk over them (we have lived here about 8 months). The last time it tore, the vet had to clip her nail up to her paw and bandage it for a few days. We emailed the building and the response back was that "maybe her nails are too long." Also, no one else had complained so they wouldn't be doing anything about it (that part I kind of understand). I've talked to other dog owners and have heard similar stories though. read more

Our recent appliance repair was completed by Cecilio Guevara - he showed exceptional skill, discovering the problem our clothes dryer was having so quickly - disassembling and reassembling what was required with such care and expertise, it was reassuring to watch him work - I could tell it was getting done the right way, the first time, and could be relied on to work as needed when he was done fixing it!! Breanna at the front desk is awesome. I've lived at the Bartlett on two separate occasions over the course of a year and a half. Many of the employees come and go and don't seem invested in the job. Breanna is the exact opposite. After only telling her my apartment number once she remembers me and my wife's name and the apartment number and always has a smile on her face and a helping attitude. ****You do NOT want to move-in right now (or over the next 6-8 months)----as the "essential" Amazon construction straight out your window is loud, all day (will wake you up in the morning as well). It's so loud it pretty much makes it impossible to leave your window open or sit on your balcony---perfect for quarantine for months. You wouldn't see that on a virtual tour, so heads up.*** (you can view the Amazon HQ2 construction phases online if you are curious). We have also received no compensation despite not being able to use any of the amenities we've paid for due to the shutdown. That all being said, the apartments themselves are great, nice finishes, and great space for your money. The maintenance team is fantastic, and has always done a great job responding to our needs. The location is fantastic as well, with lots of easy places to grab food/shop and pick up things you need. read more

Updating!!! The maintenance team is great! Mike and his team are so timely. The manager, Mike is always willing to help and never makes you feel as though you're bugging him! His team is consistent and timely always!!! Maggie, Kevin are always smiling and Tiffany has this community feeling like home with the events! Have been here 13 months and by far my most favorite location. Great amenities, great staff, dog friendly and I never hear any noise. Definitely made this place sound proof with wood floors. Pools , game room and office space is beyond fun! All amenities open 24-7 besides the pool during fall and winter. Highly recommend this place. The gym is phenomenal and I'm one to be very picky about gyms. Very Pet friendly with dog park close and the coffee shop+ Whole Foods access from lobby (no needing to feel the cold or heat) is a huge win. Amazon pick up lockers are always great. Facilities are quick to respond and always kind. Even with many of us having pets (we know each other's animals names lol) Very clean, they are always cleaning! read more

I just didn't like the feel of the place. The ground floor, the lounge and pool all look pretty but that's about it. The reception staff weren't especially friendly. The floor we stayed on was grubby and the trash/recycling room was always dirty. So an issue with tenant orientation about courtesy and use of the facilities. Our apartment had bad lighting so felt dark all the time. Thin walls and ceilings. Dirty windows. The blinds on the balcony doors didn't open. Shower held on with tape....two stars is starting to feel generous. Location is good. Luckily we were only there temporarily but it's a sign when we couldn't wait to leave. read more

We just moved into the Bartlett this past weekend, and couldn't be happier. The leasing office staff, Andrew and Katty, helped answer all my (multiple) questions and helped make move-in day go smoothly. They also gave extra attention to my dog to make him feel right at home. read more

We rented two nights at the Bartlett in Pentagon City since we were running the DC Rock and Roll Marathon. They have a short stay program where you can rent by the night. They have 16 units available for rent this way and we rented a 1BR unit which was located on the 10th floor. The building itself is almost brand new having been built within the year. They're connected to a Whole Foods and Commonwealth Joes so it's easy to buy groceries or get a bite to eat or get a coffee in the morning. We were given two key fobs that open our apartment door as well as work the elevator that brings us to the lobby or garage. There's a big recreation area on the 16th floor where there's foozball, pool, and huge televisions mounted on the walls with sports, UFC, cartoons and other shows being played. There's a big spacious gym with brand new weights, treadmills, and elliptical machines on the first floor which had high ceilings and big windows which allowed in a lot of sunlight. It seemed like a great place to enjoy a workout. There's also a work bar fully stocked with free assorted teas to accompany the many booths and large tables that can be used to read/work/use your laptop. There were also private conference rooms that are free to be used. In the middle of the building was an outdoor area with a fire pit and dog areas. Since the Bartlett is dog friendly you can see a lot of dogs and their owners walking around the building. The Bartlett also hosts many free events for their guests and residents which is probably one of the best parts. On the night we were there they had an adult board game night in the recreation area with brand new board games like Taboo and Apples to Apples. They also provided free wine, beer, and drinks for everyone. The next morning they had a waffle buffet where one of the ladies working there name Salam made amazing waffles from a fresh waffle mix that she put together herself. The waffle buffet had trays of sausages, fully loaded toppings like fresh fruits, chocolate chips, and bacon flavored syrup, as well as mimosas and bloody marys. The apartment itself was very modern. Fully furnished for our short two night stay, it had a working kitchen with beautiful Dansk plateware and stainless steel appliances like refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. The furniture was very tasteful with a big wooden coffee table, big TV and a large shaggy rug. The sofa was also a pullout sofa bed if you had another guest. The balcony overlooked the inner outdoor courtyard. The Bartlett also included a free coupon for a cup of coffee at Commonwealth Joes which was a nice gesture. The location in Pentagon City was very convenient with just a short metro ride to DC at the Metro station located 5 minutes away or just a 10 minute car ride across the bridge to the Washington Monument. There's also a mall close by at about a 5 minute walk that we didn't visit this time. Overall our stay was amazing and we really enjoyed our room, the amenities of the building, and the great location. We would definitely recommend renting here either for a short stay if it's available or as a long term resident if that's what you're looking for. read more

Concierge staff here is ridiculously aggressive, unhelpful, unintelligent, super rude, and always away. They always have this attitude like you owe them millions of dollars. When I forget my key fob and borrow the backup metal keys from them, they never bother to open up my floor on the elevator. I have to walk to the elevator and find out I can't go up and go back to their desk to ask them to hit my floor for me. It happens every time. Do they not know I can't press on my floor without the fob? One day I received some very heavy packages at the front desk, the staff told me very rudely to go pick them up in the back on my own and then went back to chatting loudly with her colleague on the side. From time to time, I will have to wait for 20 minutes by the front desk for a staff to show up. This is what they call 24-hour concierge. I've lived here for about a year now. I find the bad attitude of the concierge staff annoying for 90% of time. Given the price we pay, this has been an even more unhappy experience. I am moving out as soon as my lease ends. read more

Such a bad experience. The leading office is just not helpful and friendly. I submitted my application on Monday, and didn't hear back from them till Wednesday. So I emailed Maryam who contacted me in the first place, and she said they were working on it. On Friday, I still heard nothing form them. What's interesting is Saturday is my desired moving date as I told them so. So I made at least 3 calls and finally got a call back from another agent probably called Islam. She told me she is in charge of my case, and she hadn't even started to look at my application, because they were out of staff and she just came back from a vacation. She said what she need is more time and I'm basically wasting her time about telling her my intense situation. This leasing office deceived me about telling me they were working on it. And what a great leading office that let employer going on vacation when they are short of staff in the most busy summer session. And they should be honest and told me they haven't start to check my application. In all, the management ability is so doubtful for this leading office. I don't believe they have the ability to handle other issue properly. read more

So far so good. The Bartlett is new and fresh to Pentagon City. We have been here for a little over a month, on the 15th floor overlooking the Washington Monument, and have felt very comfortable with our stay here. The front desk is very helpful and professional in the evening when we check for packages and/or have any questions, (I believe his name is Jamal?), it makes for a much better stay here when the staff is genuinely helpful, personable, and professional. On the weekends or around holidays, the Bartlett has special events and/or fun and tasteful activities (FOR FREE) for the residents to attend. I believe Tiffany puts together these events and she is great at it!!! Very creative and amazing ideas...from pumpkin decorating to learning to cook Pad Thai... and the Bartlett spares no expense in these events which is rare for an apartment complex. The maintenance is very prompt and courteous. When we first moved in they were helpful with issues from air conditioning to dishwasher tutorials... Also, when we also moved in we made a comment to the building about the scuffs in the hallway of our floor (due to movers making dents or scuffs in the wall around corners and such) and they were proactive about making fixes the very next week. Very cool. They have a TON of amenities including study areas, a huge fitness center with free classes, like 10+ grills, an amazing 2-3 floors of gaming areas (shuffleboard, pool table, foosball table, huge tvs, electric huge fireplaces, etc). When roaming the perimeter of the building there are plenty of seating areas and places to just unwind and get a break from the apartment. If you have a pet, they have a couple of dog park areas as well as this place we heard of called S'Paw. It's a self grooming (bathing and trimming area) for the tenants that is free to use. Very cool. I could go on and on about this place, but every one is different and reviews are kind of relative. We really love this place and hope to continue enjoying it more and more as we stay longer. PS: best part: the metro is a 5 minute walk away, there's a mall and some restaurants a couple of blocks away, but the best part for us is the WHOLE FOODS downstairs. Spoiled. read more

This was a great place to live for almost two years for many reasons: APARTMENT UNIT: We had a three-bedroom/two bath unit with a balcony. The finishes on the counters and cabinetry were high end and modern. Loved cooking with gas. The carpet was a step up from the normal apartment-grade carpet one usually gets in apartments. We had plenty of closet space as two of the three BR closets were walk-in. July 4th was a treat on our balcony both years like one normally would in apartments. We never heard our neighbors on the side or above us. We were close to the elevator and never heard a peep. Maintenance is friendly, trustworthy, and prompt. If we needed something fixed we normally had it completed that day. These guys even replace your lightbulbs. AMENITIES: There were so many extras with this place. Huge gym with everything one needs--no membership required. We had a fobbed/dedicated entrance to Whole Foods and Commonwealth Joes Coffee Shop. Both buildings had rooftop areas for socialization. Our friends and family always liked to come visit and BBQ, swim, or watch a ball game on the multiple televisions available. The apartment hosted free events weekly that most of the time involved food and drink. We didn't have pets, but there was a S'Paw for them and a dedicated area for just pets on the 2nd floor. Pets were required to be on leashes, so we never experience irritations. I loved the work bar on the second floor. I was able to secure one of the conference rooms for a work function. I loved that my packages were kept at the front desk and an ID was required for pick up. The wrapping station was one of my favorite amenities. All the paper and supplies one would need. The security of the garage gave peace of mind. STAFF: The concierge service was great. Fatou knows everyone by name...just give her a day or two to learn. The concierge staff minus Fatou is new and well trained. They handle the brunt of any problems that happen and do it well. We utilized the dry cleaning drop off service twice a week, and we never had a issue with missing items or retrieval of our dry cleaning. The leasing office and management were friendly and helpful and truly worked to make the resident happy. PROXIMITY: I saved the best for last. We barely drove our vehicle unless we traveled outside the DMV area. Everything one needs is out the front door. Crystal City and Pentagon City Metros are less than a five minute walk. There are bus stops right outside the doors of the building. The mall, Costco, bars, restaurants, salons, USPS, UPS, banks, grocery stores (Whole Foods and Harris Teeter), and urgent care are just paces away from the building. My husband walked to work at the Pentagon and Crystal City daily (both 10 min walk), which save us $1000s in gas and car maintenance...not to mention time and traffic irritations. On Saturdays we would rent Capital City bicycles and ride to the farmers market in Alexandria on the trails along the river or to the DC area to visit the sites. Crystal City was by far our go-to place. This quaint city has daily activities and a variety of festivals. Our favorites were Tuesday farmers market, Thursday food truck day, and Friday outdoor entertainment. Oktoberfest and the yearly wine festival were amazing. Pentagon Row (behind mall) in the summer had Thursday night free concerts with all the restaurants hosting happy hour specials. Amazon employees will love walking across the street to work. OVERALL: No regrets with this place. Price is comparable with the area. Move in and out are easy and you can reserve one of the eight elevators and moving dock. Living at the Bartlett made our life stress-free while being stationed here in the area. read more

RENTERS BEWARE! Make sure you keep a paper trail of your interactions to avoid falling victim to the deceptive sales techniques of The Bartlett team. I made the mistake of ignoring some of the less flattering reviews of the Bartlett and JBG Smith Management because I was in awe with this amenity rich building, sadly rooftops and pools could only do so much. To begin, the descriptions on the website do not match the apartment you will actually be living in. I was led to believe that I will be getting an apartment with floor to ceiling windows (first picture). As you can see from the second and kindly annotated picture, that is not at all what I received. The Bartlett claims that this is their definition of floor-to-cieling but the definition is in the name and it is hardly up for interpretation. Make sure to look at reviews and through pictures to set your standards. The apartment you are interested in may conveniently be occupied when you go to visit but the sales team will show you a lovely unit that "is exactly the same"...it won't be. I was also told my apartment would have espresso finishes (floors, shelves, etc) and walked into an oak apartment. These are hardly complex mistakes to make you either know what the apartment looks like or you don't. Second, the staff at the Bartlett are a nightmare to deal with. Beginning with Maggie Miller, Maggie has very little manners or customer service skills. I voiced my concerns to her about her team misrepresenting the unit and she actually got very defensive and minimized my concerns. In these times where we are home for most of the day, we want our homes to be a space we feel happy to be in. I am so disappointed that my concerns with the space seemed to be the least of her concerns and she was more worried about shifting blame back to me. Anyway, this is my long way of saying if you are considering The Bartlett, don't. I don't know if it is JBG Smith's standards or if The Bartlett team is specifically ...unique but I would look elsewhere. There are several Buzzuto and Van Meter managed properties in the area with the same (if not better) amenities and staff that actually care about their residents after the papers are signed (shout out the The Clark and Concord Crystal City). Check out The Witmer, Altaire or The Sur. They have just as great amenities, kinder staff (they look us in last minute) & they're in the same price point. read more

It is getting clear to me that this building gets a lot of temporary guests. Other than the fact that lots of people rent out their apartments as Airbnbs and pop-up hotels, I constantly ran into people abusing amenities that we all PAID EXTRA for (500 amenity fee+ avg.$100 a month for public area utilities). Pool is always packed on the weekends with questionable guests, and it seems like the pool management is only checking IDs when it's convenient to them. It is quite a nice building and the paying residents deserves better. Temporary guests DONOT treat the building and the residents with respects. Even if I put up with not being able to use the public area, our safety is something that really concerns me. So far I ran into disoriented drunk visitors (no building key fob) in the elevator, some couple trying to get "intimate" in the public area, a random person loitering in front of my door and the list goes on. I sincerely wish that the building management could see this comment and really do something about building access control. read more

Most of the staff are nice, but there are so many things wrong with the building, that I don't know where to start. Here are just a few of the issues. --Concierge almost never responds to your emails. If you email the front desk, it falls into a black hole. --The appliances, cabinets, etc., are super cheap. Don't try to wash many things in the washer at once...they won't get clean and there will be detergent clumps or half broken detergent pods. --The building is super confusing to traverse. There are no west and east labels in the two towers and anyone who comes to do work in your apartment or visit will inevitably go to the wrong tower and get lost. And, if you live in the east wing, you have to change walk a fcouple of long hallways and change elevators at some point to get to the west wing to pick up mail. --The garage gate does not read your license plates. You have to use a key fob to enter and exit the garage every single time. And, you need your key fob to use every elevator. --You cannot change the channels on the TVs in the public spaces. --The elevators are super slow and constantly breaking down. They also have pee on the floor half the time. There should be wipes or something for owners with puppies. read more

Who ever the clown is at the front desk I think his name is Michael he is very eager to tell you two hour stories but is never patient enough to listen to anyone's problems, I was glad to the very nice young lady was there today to help us out earlier he had send us away telling us our packages were not here ( two very large boxes how can you miss that ?!!) Today was a Veteran's Day so no regural staff on duty. But they quickly send me a staff to fix it. I got a service from Cecilio Guevara and he's always so kind and eager to help me. Please take a look at the "not recommended reviews" section at the very end of this page. All of those are very accurate especially the ones regarding the serious security problems, move in amenity fee + monthly amenity fees, complete lack of consistent custodial services for common areas, and the worst which is the fact that the apartment I spend a ridiculous amount of money for is being used as a hotel for uncaring, noisy drunk people who trash common areas and let homeless people in to the building. Just a few weeks ago I was letting my dog out to use the facilities on the 2nd floor around 9pm (I was quiet, it wasn't too late and my dog doesn't and did not bark at all) and was harassed by a very inebriated hotel guest yelling at me from a balcony over and over with highly inappropriate comments. I was really upset that I was being catcalled in such an aggressive manner by someone who wasn't even a resident when I was just trying to let my dog out to pee in the designated area. The building has some great perks and the staff are very nice however I'm pretty unhappy here because I really don't want to live in a hotel, an apartment is transient enough. Please just think twice before renting here, as it is not always what it seems. read more

I put in a service request on 12/27/20 around 11pm. On 12/28/20 at around 10 am, there was a knock at my door. Mr. Cecilio Guevara was the maintenance engineer who took care of all the requests I put in (I put in three). Mr. Guevara was professional and gave great customer service. Not only was he super nice but he finished all my maintenance requests in such a timely manner. He even went above and beyond and fixed some other things that he saw that were not on my original maintenance request. Thank you for your help! read more

This Bartlett is nothing short of phenomenal. My apartment is beautifully finished, has top of the line appliances, and is amazingly quiet. The view from the roof (one of two rooftop areas with grills, indoor and outdoor seating, tvs, etc) is breathtaking. The staff is a wonderful, professional team that have gone out of their way -- many times--to quickly take care of things for me. They create a fun, high energy environment with events, and they simply make life easier and more enjoyable for residents. I've used the large business center space (computers, strong wi-fi, meeting rooms that can be reserved) and taken aerobics classes in the gym (no extra fee). I did an extensive search and comparison of apartments. While many others were nice, no other apartment can hold a candle to The Bartlett. It just doesn't get any better than this! You have to see it to believe it!!!! So, I'm off to grab dinner at the new Whole foods (as residents, we have our own entrance to WF, I kid you not), and take it to the roof to eat while I look over DC!! read more

While there have been some growing pains over the past couple years, overall, The Bartlett gets 2 thumbs up! PROS: The BEST leasing office. Kudos to Jahmaal, Salem, and Kevin! They are knowledgeable, positive, professional, and responsive. They always say hello and never hesitate to help if we need something. A more recent addition to the staff, Amira, is just as great! Tiffany, our resident experience manager, is awesome! She plans unique events for the building. She is equally as helpful as the leasing office staff, and we have even seen her helping out at the front desk and in our package room. It is always nice to see a leader helping out other staff members! The building is beautiful. Our gym is stocked with great equipment and better than other (building) gyms in the area. Our common areas are spacious and furnished with great furniture and accessories. The maintenance staff is helpful and very prompt to respond to maintenance requests. CONS: The custodial services should be better. I am not sure how often they vacuum and/or mop the residential floors, but it needs to be more often. I also question how often, if at all, they clean our gym. Case in point - some equipment continuously looks dirty and our cleaning wipe dispensers always seem to be empty. The building has an absurd "common area utility" charge each month. Beware - this is in addition to the amenity fee when a resident moves in or renews their lease in the building. Our charge ranges from $70-$120 per month for "common area utilities" without a clear reason for the range. We have lived in luxury apartments before and never had this additional "common area utility" charge. It would be nice if they constantly changed the vendors/sponsors for the building events. There are a lot of great DC area businesses that provide awesome services. It seems odd to promote the same vendors/sponsors. Some residents have questioned whether the building gets a kickback from the same vendors/sponsors. In addition, the dog walking/grooming vendor has been seen using our gym and common area spaces for her business meetings - that seems strange, especially since the residents have to pay the amenity fees and "common area utilities." Overall, The Bartlett is a great place to live, and the personnel does not disappoint. There are pros and cons, but that is pretty normal - except the "common area utility" fee is actually quite ridiculous - but ya cannot win them all! I would recommend living here. read more

I've lived in several "luxury apartment communities", so I was excited to move to The Bartlett in March since it is still very new and has a lot of community living space. Overall, I cannot recommend this building. I can't justify paying this much in rent for the experience I've had so far. Pros: 1) Amenities: The building is large, clean and has a lot of amenities. There are grills, a pool table, Foosball, and a small rooftop pool. There are two, small fenced artificial grass areas for dogs, and a quiet work from home/ study floor. 2) Location: It is located 3 blocks from the metro and it's a short walk to Crystal City. While there aren't many restaurants near the building, I would consider Pentagon Row walkable, and there are plenty of options there. Cons: 1) Enter Without Notice - They give very short notice before entering your apartment. For the last fire alarm test, I immediately emailed back to see if they could tell me if they were doing my floor in the morning or afternoon so I could be there with my dog. He hates the fire alarm and I didn't want him to freak out and possibly injure a maintenance person. The building manager responded that I would receive an email with the day/time. After 3 more emails asking for an update, she responded that they'd already completed the testing. 2) Empty Front Desk - The front desk is often empty. I've been down to pick up packages several times and had to wait around with other annoyed residents until the attendant returns. I've also tried to call late at night to report noise complaints, and the number goes straight to voicemail. For a building this size, it is not unreasonable for there to be two front desk attendants at all times, so there is always coverage. 3) Hotel Guests - Apparently, there are several companies operating a hotel service out of our building. This ruins the community feeling. There are often long waits for the elevator since families with all of their luggage are always checking in and out. Consequently, building security is non-existent. Building access is controlled with a fob, but since there are so many guests who don't know how to use it, residents of the building just scan theirs and let pretty much anyone in. 3) Noise - I face the courtyard, so I understand that it will be noisier since sounds echo from the other balconies. However, I believe my noise problems are related to the hotel guests mentioned above. You can't expect guests to have the same respect for our community as residents. What do they care if they have a loud party and leave their balcony door open until 4am? They're only staying for a few days. Again, the building is beautiful, but the overall experience is disappointing. 8/15/2017 update in response to the management comment below: My problem isn't with the rent prices. I chose a more expensive building because I want the amenities and service that go with that price tag. The problem is, I am not receiving the benefits of those amenities and services, but the price hasn't changed to reflect that. The biggest complaints other residents and I have had over the last few weeks are: 1) The front desk is still often unattended during peak times people want to pick up packages (evenings and weekends). 2) The wait for elevators has become ridiculous, even after the maintenance a few weeks ago. After getting home from work, waiting for the elevator, and then cramming in with the 15 or so other residents who have accumulated while you've been waiting, is less than desirable. 3) The gate to our "secure parking" garage is often open. I've encountered people who accidentally went down our ramp and parked when trying to go to Whole Foods and they're wandering around trying to figure out how to get in. Their new parking decal enforcement policy seems like overkill...why not just fix the gate? For $3400/month, I expect more from my apartment community. read more

I have lived at The Bartlett for a year and just renewed my lease for another two years. The building is second to none and the convenience is great (shopping, DC, not to mention the Whole Foods downstairs). I must also mention that since JBG assumed ownership of the building some of the minor issues have even been addressed, i.e., increase in staff at Concierge, custodial (it seems like they are onsite 18 hours a day which is great, they keep everything spotless), etc. However, all this would mean nothing if they did not have the supporting staff. Everyone has been great but I have to recognize Selam and Amira in the leasing department. They are so very knowledgeable and do everything they can to meet the tenant's requests. They are passionate about their jobs and passionate about this 5-star property. With this balance, they will do everything they can to meet your needs but will not sacrifice the needs of the other tenants. And I appreciate that very much. I highly recommend The Bartlett if you want to be in DC (without being IN DC), be near a metro, shopping, and adjacent to everything DC and the surrounding area has to offer. read more

Since my initial review, I can honestly say that management has been nothing but accommodating in getting feedback from residents and responding in real time. Gary, the new property manager, has been amazing in addressing the concerns I raised. In addition, the resident events are even better (from an already excellent base of resident events). In the last few weeks I've met quite a few new neighbors and honestly, the community spirit is still there. read more

We watched the Bartlett being built from day one (specifically the hole for the parking garage). After one year our curiosity got the best of us so we scheduled a tour. What a tour! The Bartlett has every amenity one could ask for not to mention such a friendly and professional staff. The Bartlett has been home now for almost a year. Today we just completed a transfer into a two bedroom, 2 bath and den apartment. The transition has been effortless and our leasing agent Salem went above and beyond with assisting in the process. Salem displays extreme pride in her position as a leasing agent, always presenting herself in a professional manner. Her demeanor is above reproach and she always greets you with a smile. Salem is definitely a "keeper". Kudos to the Bartlett staff! read more

I am beyond saddened by the level of professionalism of the Staff at the Bartlett. To begin, December 2021, I received notification that my rent was unpaid for the month and I owed the past due rent as well as, late fees. Shocked because I pay rent on time via check and would never forgo rental payments. Immediately, I spoke with Ms. Evelyn and presented another check to make this right. I received an email two months later that the check was submitted to corporate just as I'd told them and that I could come get the check from the rental office. There was zero apology or ownership to their mistake and it was brushed off. The lack of professionalism and accountability began and continued. Next, in January 2022 I received my renewal paperwork on my door. I was shocked to note the 300 plus dollar increase in monthly rent. Immediately, in tears I asked to speak with Julie who told me the money "doesn't go into their pockets." This was offensive because I never thought such I just couldn't understand the drastic increase. I was told she'd forward my email inclusive of the market rate, the similar apartment rental a few floors down advertised at what I currently pay, and other apartments to corporate for further consideration. I was offered to decrease the amount by 60 dollars which wouldn't really help especially since my same floor plan was advertised at what I currently pay. Julie told me that "she could advertise my apartment for over 2,500 per month. " I pleaded that she have a little humility based on her unforeseen comments. I was given a tour of one more apartment that I opted not to select. I went to the leasing office daily speaking with Julia about how hard this decision would be because I have such a great network of friends. I informed Julia that I couldn't give 60 days because it was challenging to secure an apartment with such a far out projected move date. On several occasions Julia verbally told me "when you know let me know." She appeared concerned about my rent increase and move but reassured me verbally that it would be okay. She failed to mention that I would be bound to the 60 days and kept verbally assuring me that it was okay. I believed her and as soon as I was approved for an apartment I ran down to notify Julia. She told me to let her know as soon as I knew. I found out exactly 45 days opposed to the 60 days. Evelyn came out of the office and told me that I could keep my rent the same for the additional days passed the end date of my lease. I'm actually moving out two days before the end date of my lease and paid her the cleaning fees for the date that my lease ends. Saddened I emailed Candice assuming that she'd understand that Julia and I have had several conversations and I only let her know when I knew. Candice emailed me that they must follow the written policy. The written policy wasn't discussed as a penalty during any of my daily dialogues with the leasing team. Further, my apartment is advertised as available 7 May 2022. That doesn't equate to the 15 extra days that they want me to pay. 45 days is ample time to give notification from a good tenant. I've always paid rent on time and have a huge friend group in the building. I'm literally taken aback by the level of unprofessionalism, lack of care and concern, and inability to speak up from the staff. read more

I almost didn't even stop at the Bartlett when I was apartment shopping a year ago, but very glad I did. Salem was so friendly and excited about the complex, she sold me on living here. She really understood me and helped me find the perfect apartment. Throughout the year I've enjoyed seeing her around the complex and she never fails to have the same happy attitude and big warm smile. Tiffany and Jahmaal have always been a pleasure to see and incredibly helpful whenever I needed something. And the social events! Oh My! Tiffany and the the others really go all out to make the frequent events worthwhile and memorable. My apartment was small but totally livable. The storage in the bathroom and kitchen was perfect and more than enough. And the view of the capital and the Potomac truly breathtaking. Everything was always clean and safe. The decoration of the apartment, the floors, counters, cabinets, bathroom, all very calming and easy on the eyes. And the appliances are the best you'll find in an apartment. The location is wonderful -- I walk everywhere. And it's easy to get spoiled by having the Whole Foods right down stairs. It really is a truly wonderful place to live. read more
