I have to amend my previous review - we are frequent fliers here and our last 2 visits were so disappointing food wise, not in service. My husbands usual order of a Little Vin add mashed is his fav and the last two times (maybe a new chef?) have been bad, too much buffalo the first (like soaked in buffalo) and not enough mashed the next visit, also on our last visit we got the app special of arancini and it was ice cold in the middle of each ball, disappointing. Server Morgan is always excellent but this may be lower on our list moving forward unfortunately :( read more

I worked in a pizzeria for years and I'm used to getting it the way I like it. After trying a few places I found The Bar. I get pizza to go here on a regular basis and I love it. The crust is thin, crispy and baked well, but not burnt. I usually order different halves, the toppings are generous and fairly priced. It's always ready when I get there and everyone I've dealt with has been friendly and prompt. I can't comment on the restaurant or bar as I have never eaten in. I encouraged some of my coworkers to go there for a get together. When they called to reserve they were told there would be an extra charge if the number of people who came was fewer than expected; they went elsewhere. read more

Coworkers and I stopped by during our lunch. Very clean establishment. I ordered the caprese salad and I was not disappointed. The server was friendly and responsive. Ordered three pizzas at 6:00 for a house full of people they said 20 minutes, went there 30 minutes later the girl behind the counter said, with a smirk like she thought it was funny I might add, "they haven't even put em in the oven yet!! We went to this place for dinner last night and enjoyed how they had heat lamps outside which allowed us to sit outside. We ordered the mashed potato and famous clam pizzas. They were new Haven style thin crust but were a little thicker than that for us. The flavors were good but the clam was far too oily leaving a pool of oil behind on the pan. They give you free garlic knots which were tasty but we had to ask a second time for them after our waitress had offered them to us. Our pizza did take a considerable amount of time to come out. While we were eating, an employee and two customers were allowed to smoke within 20 feet of our table and the opening of the outdoor seating, which shouldn't be the case especially on a windy day. I had to mention this to our waitress when I paid our bill and received an apology and that they would look into this situation. read more

Came here around 6 on a Friday night, wasn't super busy. The bar area had more people versus dining. Got greeted and sat within seconds. Waitress was very cheerful and friendly and each table was given garlic knots on the house. We ordered a mashed potato pizza and buffalo which took about 15 minutes to come out. Both were amazing and piping hot. There are two types of people. Those who eat the crust ends and those who don't. I definitely think anyone will eat them here. The crust has that perfect chewiness and crunch. Sad it took us 6 months to finally eat here. Definitely will come back again. read more

As always the wait staff makes a place comfortable for its customers. The Bar has great people working there who are always helpful but never intrusive. Now for the pizza, which is what we go there for. It is "New Haven Pizza" quality. We grew up in New Haven and we're regulars at Modern, Pepe's or Sally's. We think we know pizza and The Bar in North Haven hits the mark. If you want to skip the Friday night craziness of getting a pizza at the Big Three you won't be disappointed at The Bar. So I've driven past this restaurant many times and have always wanted to try it.... We'll tonight I did and..... well first of all 15$ for plain calamari is insane especially when you can get fresh wild-caught calamari for around 2$ PER LB... but to then pay an extra 1$ for their "N.Y. Style" calamari that is SUPPOSED to be tossed with cherry peppers and Marinara to actually RECEIVE PLAIN calamari with A SIDE OF MARINARA WITH PEPPERS TOSSED IN is absolutely crazier!!!! Their description clearly says fresh fried calamari TOSSED in a spicy cherry pepper marinara sauce.... NOT served on the side!!! I don't even use marinara because I personally prefer cocktail sauce SOOO how would someone like me even know seeing as I don't even open the marinara!!! So I called (because I didn't open the marinara) and first person handed the phone off to a second person and then the THIRD person that was rude, short and in a very matter of fact response said "did you check the sauce?".... I said no because I use cocktail sauce, so she said "check the sauce" because we put it on the side so it doesn't make the calamari soggy!!!!! I said wait so I paid more because you threw a few cherry peppers into your marinara?? I think anyone that reads "tossed in sauce" would or should assume its not going to be AS crispy as plain AND NEVER have I ordered calamari where it WASN'T served with even ONE lemon wedge!!!! So yeah TERRIBLE!!! Then I had held out SOME HOPE for the calzone I ordered with peppers, onions and meatballs which I asked if there was pork in the meatballs and she VERY CLEARLY said NO.... Most traditional meatballs have a mixture of ground pork and beef sooo hopefully she knew what she was talking about!!! Anyway soooo I opened my calzone and it definitely looked delicious...... but as we all know looks can be deceiving VERY deceiving!!!! As you will see I'm the pictures they basically put a WHOLE white onion in and a ton of very poorly cut green peppers and again as you can see in the pictures the meatballs were basically non-existent!!! I still was very hungry so I dug in!!! Absolutely disgusting and COMPLETELY FLAVOURLESS!!! All I could taste was the onions and the ricotta's consistency was not how decent ricotta should have been like and it was a lot!!! No flavour in the ricotta, no flavour in the mozzarella and definitely couldn't taste the meatballs!!! Ohhh and let me tell you about the "sauce".... It LITERALLY tasted like TOMATO PASTE extremely acidic and that is not how it should be!!! So yeah those are probably the reason that on a FRIDAY EVENING they're DEAD and EMPTY!!! None of them were nice personable OR EVEN SMILED!!! Although the young kid (male) that took my order was smiling personable and helped so that I could use Apple Pay!!! So for calamari and a small calzone I spent 43$ DOLLARS and left him 5$ for FOOD THAT WAS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY INEDIBLE!!!! Maybe people like their food and customer service after a few to many drinks because for me that is a hard NO and never again!!!! I'm sorry but with everything being a bit more expensive and the amount of competition there is you'd think you'd actually ATTEMPT to make people happy and serve food that tastes decent and is actually edible or at least attempt to rectify the problem!!! Went here for the first time at the end of April. The pizza is spectacular along with friendly and professional service. The prices are more than fair and it is a very congenial fun atmosphere. I've been to The Bar many times and never had a problem with the pizza. It was always very good. However tonight was HORRIBLE. PAPER PAPER THIN, and burnt, it was like a hard cracker, one pie was a shrimp and garlic, half a shrimp on each piece. The other was a marguerita, again paper thin and burnt!! "The Bar" looks like such a welcoming place on the outside, just until you step through those doors and receive stale garlic knots, cold wings and poor customer service. Watch out for the owner refilling his "soda glass from the soda fountain. After many disturbing and unwelcoming visits, I had one last awful experience here. So bad, that my friends, family, and colleagues will not step anywhere near this place after what happened here. The bartender and her daughter were disgustingly rude and disrespectful to me, as well as talking about me to a table across the way from where I was sitting. Pointing and laughing at me. Comes to find out the daughter didn't like me because she made my drink wrong, then changed me 11 dollars for a shot that was supposed to be in the drink already. Well, what can we say about the typical bar. The chairs are usually the same, the same beer and drinks are served and every bar has a overworked bartender. So what sets a typical bar apart from the rest of them, you may ask. It's truly the customer service And the people inside that give you a feeling of comfort and good atmosphere. All the bartenders and staff are so wonderful and make you wanna just keep coming back, but one in particular is not only so nice but extremely easy on the eyes. Absolutely gorgeous, lovable, approachable and just makes you wanna empty your wallet for the tip..Kerri just brings me back again and again. This is our go to pizza spot when we want take out or local pizza. Nothing compares to true New Haven Pizza but this is close! The flavor is there and it's always hot and fresh. Their more fun pizzas are also delicious, I like their mashed potato and their chicken bacon ranch. They're both heavy and I only need a slice or two to feel full. read more

I was looking forward to this place but was ultimately disappointed. We ordered a pizza with meatball, peppers, mushrooms, and bacon. As well as an order or BBQ wings (which were so pale, I needed to put them in the broiler at home) and some cannolis. The pizza looked much better than it actually tasted. It completely fell apart when you tried to pick up a slice, so I had to put each slice on a pan and crisp them up on the stove. (I really shouldn't have to re-cook food I went out to get, but whatever) Flavor-wise, the best part was the bacon; they do use high-quality bacon cut in large pieces. When you get one that's cooked nicely, it's great, but there were plenty of fatty pieces that were unappetizing. The meatballs were pretty tasteless. The sauce was kinda tangy, but not too flavorful. The crust was really not great. We were hoping the cannolis could redeem them, but they too were disappointing. Tiny, soggy, and bland. One of them had almonds on it...and it didn't really taste like almonds. We were expecting them to use some sort of almond extract, but they just used their generic cannoli cream (which was dry and lemony) I really wish places stopped using the phrase "New Haven Style" to describe pizza that has a slight char. read more

Imagine that, another pizza restaurant in North Haven. Really?! Well, thus far.. I have had their stuffed clams, penne alla vodka, and a few of their pies. It became evident on my initial order that The Bar isn't your typical pizza/sub shop. Each time I've ordered my expectations have either been met or exceeded. I would recommend any of their pizzas, recently we ordered an 18 inch with white sauce, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, and onions.. it was superb. Ridiculously fresh ingredients it's obvious that they prep their toppings frequently. This place is just bubbling under 4 stars, and has potential for 5. The food was good. We did not have pizza, so I can't comment on that. My wife had a chicken and shrimp dish, and I had a chicken special that was basically chicken piccata. Downside was that the dinners came with either pasta, salad or soup. The dinners would have been better if they had come with pasta included. The service was also a little hap-hazard. The waitress was friendly and helpful, but the dishes came out one at a time, and the bread didn't come until the entrees were served. These are the small things that keep this from being a better review. Definitely going to give it another chance, and probably try the pizza. read more

Decided to try something new with my boyfriend. I drive by this place often so we decided hey why not. The employees were very nice and attentive. There's a small bar area to sit for happy hour and they do have karaoke nights & occasional bands that play. We got a pizza and it was absolutely delicious. Definitely New Haven style like they advertise. Crust is crispy and thin just how we love it. I ordered one of my usual basic alcoholic beverages and they made it well.
