I seriously cannot ever come to the Santa Cruz region and NOT stop at The Bagelry, be it their original location or this one over in Soquel. They remain one of my absolute favorite breakfast spots, and a perfect choice for an easy grab-n-go meal on the run. As with the original location, you have what you would expect from a bagel café. A selection of flavors, large variety of toppings, and tons of combos for sandwiches and so forth. So many options, that one real fun thing to do is just mix and match, see what piques your flavor interests. My go-to favorite is the Bagel Melt, on either the Tomato-Basil or the Pesto bagel, along with a slice of tomato. Just the best thing to have in the morning! I can also highly recommend getting the combination of the Oatmeal-Date bagel with the Royal Palm spread. It is a sweet delicacy that really hits the spot. Bagels can be bought by the box and bundle, too, should you need a large order for a family breakfast or other event, along with cartons of schmear, toppings, and sides. The sides are fairly simple, chips, drinks, quite good dill pickles, really nice fresh cookies, and a fridge full of plenty of drink choices. Prices for the bagels are really good, with most bagels being a buck, a hefty bagel melt running you about $4-$5, and most sandwiches in the $5-$8 range, depending on other add-ons. This is very conveniently located right on the main drag in Soquel. This can make for an easy walk over, if you are in the neighborhood, but parking is fairly easy as well, though you may need to park across the street or around the corner, as their lot is on the small side. Service here has been quite friendly and prompt, too. Maybe the one downside I can find is that, unlike the original, there is no big garden patio to sit and enjoy your bagel, but there are still some benches out front, and no doubt the indoor dining space will reopen once COVID restrictions are lifted. All in all, the entire Bagelry franchise is one I always recommend to people visiting the area. I certainly will be back again whenever I pass through. Looking forward to the next round! read more

The girl with all piercings is very rude, I saw the front door open and it was 7:25, she was bringing out the outdoor chairs and just looked like she hated her job, when she saw me she immediately closed the door, they seemed to be in no hurry to open as myself and another gentleman stood out front at 7:30 and the doors still locked, the bagels are smaller then your average bagel, the cream cheese is nothing special, i definitely won't be returning. read more

Hello again. Sunday 8/16/20 on my way into town I had attempted multiple times to call in my lox and bagel sandwich so it would be ready upon my arrival. The phone number given just rings and eventually an answering machine picks up. Once at the shop I approach the counter. The unkempt young man at the register seemed like he was fighting a nasty hangover, he could barely keep it together. I spoke loud and clear to him when ordering, he was struggling, I had to repeat my order three times. While paying for my sandwich and coffee using my debit card, the young man mumbled something about the power being out the night before and the card machine not working. He then pointed to a ATM machine located in the lobby and told me to use it. I inquired about the fee the ATM would charge, "three bucks" he responded. I told the young man that Ill use the in-house ATM if they take the three dollars off my order which is fair. A loud "that's not gonna happen" came from the small rude girl who wasn't part of the conversation. You aren't going to charge me an extra three dollars because your card reader doesn't work. The young man ran my card again this time with success. The employees here at The Bagelry are half drunk, rude, and a disappoint every time, they are not good people. read more

I don't usually leave bad reviews, but sadly I had to for the Bagelry. I wanted to like this place, I really did! I stopped by today for a quick lunch and was disappointed. No one greeted me as I came in the door even though there were three people behind the counter. It was a bad way to start out, but I hoped at least the food would be good. Sadly, it was not. I ordered the French onion soup and it was not good. The broth was watery and bland. The "croutons" on top were day old bagels roughly sliced into squares and not even toasted. There was a pile of un-melted cheese thrown half-hazardly onto the soup. I tried to eat it because it cost me $4.25 but I just couldn't. The bagels themselves aren't that good for a place specializing in bagels. Overall, it wasn't good. Bad service, bad food and pricey for what it is. read more

My first time yesterday. Disappointed all the way.. Their bagel are not even decent. They don't have any lettuce, sprouts only? Eew. I asked cheese for for my kid. It was melted all over. everywhere, looking so messy. Impossible to eat. I returned it and they gave me my money back. No excuses , he just said: that 's the way we do it. The only reason I go here, ever, is because it's right next to my house. That said, the place is terrible on so many levels. The bagels are the only decent part, most of the time. Usually I'll go and get an everything bagel with toffuti cream cheese, olives, green onions, and tomatoes. When they don't mess up the order it's great. However the employees seem to hate their job, and don't care about good customer service, they act as if it is an inconvenience for them to have to take an order. I walked in today and happily walked to the counter and greeted the female employee with the dark hair and bangs with "hi, how are you?" And she just looked at me and without a smile or a response took my order. As well, because I get the same thing most of the time I care about the tomatoes(which alternate between these nice small ones, and large gross ones) so I asked her if they had the nice ones, and she didn't try to get me an answer just said "I don't know"... wtf? Then when she asked for my name I gave it to her, and she got my name wrong(which isn't a big deal), but she asked me if it was right and I said no it's Parker, but as a joke said "either works though! Lol" and she just asked me "well which one is it...?" And inherently this isn't a bad question, but overall is pretty rude, and adds to my first point, being they see customers as an inconvenience. The other issue I have is the quality control of how the bagels turn out... but there are so many times I've had everything fall off my bagel, or I order it with jam and they don't offer a paper boat so all the jam come off when I open the wrapping, or the cream cheese isn't non dairy like I asked, etc... Overall, this place is a mess of disinterested employees who couldn't care less about their customers, and making bagels that are consistently good. read more

I went to the Bagelry the other day an hour and 10 minutes before closing. I walked in (the door was wide open so I didn't notice the closed sign on the door). There were lots of customers eating at the tables and at least 4 people busy working and making bagel sandwiches. I stood at the counter for at least 3 minutes before someone yelled out that they were out of bagels and didn't I see the closed sign on the door! I LOVE a good smoked salmon bagel, and this is the great place to get one in Santa Cruz. I work downtown so I'm use to going to the location there, but this one isn't bad. Service-wise, I feel like this one is lacking... Every time I've been here, the people behind the counter don't seem to care much about anything. Food-wise, I always get either the lox and cream cheese or lox deluxe. Both have smoked salmon, green/red onions, and cream cheese. Deluxe has tomatoes and capers (and is $0.80 more). The cream cheese is very light, and they pile it on! Every time I ask for less cream cheese I always end up scraping a bunch off... Which is great if you love cream cheese. The smoked salmon is alright - wish it was thinner and had more of a smokey flavor, but it's not bad. And what bagel should I get, you ask? GARLIC. Forever and always: garlic. It goes great with the lox, and I love the bits of crunchy garlic sprinkled on top. Mm... It might not be the best bagel EVER, but it's a great place to go to if you're craving a good bagel sandwich! read more

We went here because we wanted to try a different location other than the main Santa Cruz shop. Well, we happened to get there when a softball team got there. They were kids. Place was insane. Made a wrong turn on our way to the 1. Turns out it was meant to be. Very unique menu accommodating all types of diets. They offer vegan, non-dairy, gluten free, vegetarian... You name it. They had spread combos I have never even seen at any of our local bagel places. Tons of unique spread flavors. We got the jalepeno garlic artichoke and a pumpkin spread to go. The bagels are fresh and have that perfect bagely soft chew. I got a salt bagel toasted with cream cheese, tomato, and cucumber (and I add a sprinkle of pepper). The tomatoes were so fresh and ripe. They tasted like the were fresh from the garden. So sweet and yummy! No nasty pale tomatoes with a green core here. The hubs got the everything bagel toasted, with cream cheese, lox, and onions. He said it was one of the best everything bagels he has had and they were much better than Western Bagels. My cousin got a 3 seed bagel with cream cheese, lox, and green onion. She loved hers as well. We loved them so much we got a half dozen to go with spread for later! If you are passing through, do yourself a favor and make a wrong turn too. The Seabright location is much better than this one. IMO. At 800am you'd expect fresh bagels instead I felt like I just bought a dozen of day old bagels for near $16 including their cream cheese which I almost left on the counter because the gal at the counter hands me the heavy bag of bagels (thinking the cream cheese was inside the bag). I peak inside and no tub of cream cheese. I looked back on the counter and there it was sitting. Wished she would have told me or else I would have forgotten it. I ordered a "gluten free" bagel with hummus and to my surprise the gal whips out a bag of Udi's gluten free bagel. WTF! Seriously? did I just pay $4.00 one bagel (with hummus) for something I can buy at the grocery and get a whole bag of gluten free bagels for $5? SMH! How can an in-house made bagel shop sell packaged bagels??? I felt so deceived. To top it off she did not toast it like I requested. Gluten free bread needs to be toasted or it just taste like mush. Why is this location not consistent like the Seabright location? I drive 10 min more just to avoid this shop. read more

I love these bagels, but every time I come in the staff is rude. I made an order over the phone since I had my 6 month old and it was raining. Took me a few rounds of circling the parking lot but I found parking, not a big deal. I waited a few minutes until I saw my order was up so I stepped to the register on the right side to pay. Said I had the phone pick up. The woman shot me a dirty look & said "Well then you need to get in line to pay". I usually come on Sunday's and recognized her. She always seems to have an attitude when taking orders. I hear the Sea Bright location is good, though so maybe I'll try that next time. Bagels are great though, very bummed with service. read more

Updating & giving an extra two stars cause their customer service is above average, and that's hard to find now days. I had an instance where I didn't fully receive what I had desired.
