An absolute gem in Matawan. The bagels are fantastic -- crispy on the outside but fluffy inside. I really enjoyed the super cinnamon raisin, which was toasted with cinnamon and sugar in the exterior. It tasted great with the lite cream cheese, and they're very generous with the schmear. I also tried the bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel, which was flavorful and the best way to start the day! It was great value, and the service was very friendly and fast. It made me happy to see it so bustling on a Sunday morning! The interior has some limited seating, and it's located in a strip mall with other interesting stores and restaurants. The ladies that were working over the weekend were beautiful and very kind to my baby boy. No problem making me hot and cold sandwiches and getting me bagels right away. Great service here. The problem is the bagels are just too soft. They are nice and big, and toast up great, but when you cut them they smush. Taste was great though, so for a single bagel, or bagel sandwich, yea- top marks, but for a bunch to take home or to an event, I'd keep looking. read more

Haven't tried the breakfast sandwiches yet, but a regular old toasted bagel with cream cheese is 10/10. Perfectly toasted but still soft and always a respectable amount of cream cheese. Popular items here are those breakfast sandwiches for about $6 each. Everything seems to be extra for an add on. You won't have to double up on your order. Such as meat, eggs, cheese & or pork roll. Sandwiches are very hearty. My order was a pork roll, egg and cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel for her. I went for a bacon, egg and cheese on a everything bagel. One can add hash browns for another buck. Total for 2 sandwiches, medium coffee and a newspaper $16.00. Come in before 10, even during the week if you can. Or just call in your order ahead of time. Despite the name, they don't just serve bagels here. This is a great little local spot to grab sandwiches, side salads, soups, some baked goods, and (of course) all different kinds of bagels and cream cheese spreads. I stopped by for a quick morning bite and got a made-to-order egg/meat/cheese breakfast sandwich. I chose the jalapeño bagel (with egg/turkey sausage/default American cheese), and it was a good solid breakast sandwich and very affordable at around $4. The bagel was super fresh, and I loved how the bits of jalapeños in it gave the sandwich a nice kick. Since moving out to California, I've been sorely missing a good Jersey bagel and I had a place when I lived in South Jersey but it was hard to find one in the Sayreville/Old Bridge area outside of Bagel Boy. Enter Bagel Mania, tucked away in a large, busy Matawan strip mall where they make bagels fresh and a mean breakfast sandwich too! Their bagels have a nice crisp outer and a chewy interior - A BAGEL DONE RIGHT! They also make a great pork roll, egg (they make them with 2 eggs), and cheese (+ salt, pepper, ketchup, if you like) for under $5. Well worth the time and $$! A dozen bagels goes for $9.99 and you sure know I packed those with me when I went back to Cali. I'll be back when I visit! read more

I never knew this place existed , but once I did, I had to try it. I've been noticing I'm that it's getting harder and harder to find a place that makes a good NJ breakfast sandwich, and am glad to say this place did not disappoint. Good food and coffee and a friendly staff. If I were to have an issue and it's small, just update the pricing on the menus board. On my way to NYC and stopped by here for a breakfast sandwich on a Saturday morning. Called to order but nobody picked up they phone. Got here and there was a line waiting to order and was greet by this young lady behind the counter after a while. She looked like she didn't want to be there with a sore puss on her face. Gave her my order of 2 bacon, egg and cheese on plain bagel. Waited for another 25 mins for my sandwiches, not sure what happened b/c customers that ordered after me received their orders before me. This little place is amazing. Firstly, they make their own bagels! And second, they make a good assortment of cream cheese spreads. They have a small flat-top griddle that they make their sandwiches on, but make sure you either call ahead or make time in the mornings because they get busy. And that's for a good reason. Their staff is also very friendly and helpful. They qualify as a 'joint' to me and my NY sensibilities. That is, They're not a fancy place; it's a bustling business with a great product - NY-style bagels. I've been coming here for a while now and they have excellent bagels but the quality of the service is so bad that I rather eat a crappier bagel then have to deal with them. I truly feel bad for the management because they are good owners but their employees are terrible. They seem to mess up the order almost every time now and they are always fighting with each other making the customers feel very uncomfortable while they wait for the food to be made. Bagelmania, my go to for breakfast! It is typically very busy. It is a tiny little shop and sometimes the line will lead out the door. I love the food. Everything I've gotten has been great. The owner/workers there are the best. So kind and make you feel welcomed. There are 3 small tables to the left when you first walk in, all connected (again, its a tiny shop) so keep that in mind if you plan on eating there. It's nice when its not busy, but if it's busy I would not sit there and eat because of the build up of people surrounding you. BUT a lot of people must mean it's good, and that's definitely true. I'm officially done with this place. The service is horrendous. They don't write anything down. They rely on a troop of young people running around like their heads are chopped off. There's no organization behind the counter. It doesn't matter if you are the only customer in the place or one of ten. They will manage to make ordering and receiving your food a nightmare. The past three times I've been here there have been two incorrect orders, and one where they forgot to make my food, or gave it to someone else. The bagel makers know their stuff. They are delicious. There were a couple of people eating or waiting for their orders. It's not terribly tight, but it's not big in there. I ordered a pork roll, egg and cheese on a wheat bagel and a coffee. You make your own coffee at the bar on the side. The sandwich was ok, at best. The pork roll didn't have much of a taste, not terrible, but almost not there. The bagel though, was one of those big fluffy types. I'm more of a crunchy, kettle cooked guy than a large roll type of guy. It was ok, not great, not bad. The place did seem clean and the counter girls were pleasant. It's not a bad place to stop, I'm just not sure I'd do it often. read more

First of all they make the mistake by giving me the wrong sandwich so I come back to change it. The young lady there was nasty and upset that I came back, as if it was my fault they made the mistake. At the end, when I got my new sandwich I said thank you and got no reply. So I say thank you again and she looks at me and say "bitch people make mistakes" so first they mess up my sandwich taking time out of work day to come back and exchange it. So sometime recently, the health dept must've done some cleaning up in there. Employees wear gloves now as opposed to previously not.. Just hope the owner doesn't make your food, he doesn't abide by this glove rule.. Also, chances are they will get your order wrong.. Ordered a pork roll, egg, and cheese the other day.. the pork roll was on the grill for 2 minutes tops (GROSS!).. They NEVER write anything down when taking your order. Very disorganized. They have to ask you multiple times while you are there what your order was and sometimes it still comes out incorrect. They seem to never be able to handle a capacity of more than 3 people at a time. read more
