Be aware this is not the same place as the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, which is a county agency. This place is a smaller, private nonprofit. They have fewer pets available, but they are no-kill, which is great. Check out their thrift shop, the Second Chance Thrift. You can find really great stuff here and all the money goes to the Fairfax Humane Society, so it's a win-win. The only downside is that they are open limited hours, so check the hours before you go. It's staffed by volunteers, so that's understandable, but I do wish they had more weekend hours. Also it can be a bit tricky to find if you haven't been before. But I have found some lovely pueblo pottery, old clocks, and original artwork at their thrift shop for very reasonable prices.

The front desk staff was nice during drop-off, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the actual quality of the grooming was noticeably poor. The groomer completely missed large sections of fur, leaving the cut visibly uneven and unfinished. On top of that, several other services included in the package appeared essentially untouched. I couldn't tell if those steps were skipped entirely or just done very poorly, but the result was the same. Because the job was left so incomplete, I wasted my time and money here and had to pay a second groomer at a different place just to fix and finish the work. Their pricing is exactly on par with other local groomers, but the execution falls far short. Given their high ratings, I was really let down. I wouldn't recommend them if you're looking for thorough, professional work.

I was running late for my dog's appointment, so I called ahead to ask if I should still come. They told me yes and said it would be fine since "They weren't busy". I drove 30 minutes there, only to be told I was late and that my dog could not be seen. I explained that they had said it was okay and I would not have driven all that way otherwise. After going back and forth with an associate who was extremely rude--laughing with coworkers in front of me and speaking in their own language--she finally agreed to take my dog. Then during the check-in she changed her mind and claimed my dog was "too naughty," which makes no sense. My dog is a 3-year-old mini poodle who has been groomed his entire life, including at other Petco locations with no issues. He behaves like a normal poodle and has never had problems before. What made this worse is that when I went to another Petco location I usually use, they refused service as well because the Fairfax store had called them and told them not to help me or my dog. I went to two locations and wasted hours because three employees at the Fairfax store chose to make things difficult. Very frustrating and unprofessional experience. I will not be returning. The three asian ladies were very racist and they pick and choose who they like or not to provide them services.
