A completely hidden-away spot in Solvang with excellent beers. A very cool spot to chill and enjoy some cold ones.

We heard such great things about this place and were excited to stop in and try some good craft beer! While the interior and craft beer is on point, unfortunately their customer service is not. It was 5 of us, 3 men 2 women. My friends daughter asked a lady with blond hair where the nearest restroom was, she loudly responded "the nearest public restroom is" and another woman with dark hair responded "Solvang Brewery". So my friends daughter walks out to go use the restroom at Solvang brewing and gets harassed along the way. Meanwhile I go to sit out side, I turn and see a bathroom right in this place! I just couldn't believe even though we were buying drinks, they would direct her to a place around the corner when they clearly had a bathroom! I brought it to their attention and they simply stated they thought the bathroom was busy. Terrible! I don't want to say it was racist but it sure felt that way read more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! This is our favorite spot for a GREAT beer! We visit every time we come into town, and we love the membership only aspect of the business. It allows the bar to be exclusive and we always bump into good friends when visiting :) Making it feel like you are apart of something more then just getting a beer, it is a community. We enjoy sitting on the patio, especially on beautiful sunny days in the valley. We bring lunch, grab a couple of beers and enjoy the day. They have an amazing selection of beers, there's really something for everyone there. The owners are kind and knowledgeable and we always leave with our hands full of amazing new beers to try at home. We will come back every time we get a chance, thank you for creating such a wonderful space! read more

We found this place kind of by accident because we parked on a side street and walked past it. It's not on one of the main roads but it's worth going around the corner for. They had a ton of beer for sale to go and then they had a tap room in the back. In there was very reasonably priced beers that were some of the best I ever tried. The Big Bad Baptista beers are fantastic. They also allow dogs and have a clean restroom. I will make this a regular stop on my future visits to Solvang. read more

I love this place so much! Sandy always has the newest and the hardest beers to get! The management and staff are unbelievable! It's always a fun time here! It's a place where you can relax and just concentrate on having good beer with good people! Whenever I am in Solvang I have to stop here! Thank you for all the memories and future memories I will be making at this great tap room! P.S Whoever said that this Tap room is racist has some serious issues and needs to stop throwing around the race card like it's no big deal! Because the management welcomes all colors and creeds and racism is the last thing you would find here! I think a spoiled brat did not like what she heard and threw a little tantrum and played the race card!!! read more

Man, part of me is really annoyed that this place is so hidden. I'd been at Valley Brewers several times and never know that the bookcase at the end of the hall was actually a door that lead to this great taproom!! not too big but really not that small either The Back Room is exactly what anyone should want in their own neighborhood. Great line-up on 20 or so taps all selected by a guy that knows the heck out of beer. And I'm talking how to make it, nit just drink it :-) If you're in Solvang, you owe it to yourself to stop in. read more

The BackRoom - Great looking tap wall at the backroom - Beer Bar Near Me - Solvang, California

Who knew we would find a speakeasy in the middle of Solvang? Located in the back of a beer supply store, this speakeasy is bigger than meets the eye. This place has great service and decent selection of both bottled and tap beer. I also loved that their outdoor patio is filled with a lot of greenery. It has plenty of seating and had a enough to fit our party of 6 on one table. A major bonus is the owner's dog! It adorably follows her around even if she's busing tables outside. It does get shy and doesn't let everyone pet it though. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you and your friends are looking for some beer in a town like Solvang! read more

This place gets 5 stars all-around! Hidden gem in Solvang. Had to read other Yelpers reviews to find out how to get in lol. Bartender was super friendly and knowledgeable of craft beers. Recommended some great ones to try and take home. This place just has a cool vibe. If you can find how to get here, stay awhile and hangout. read more

Whhaaaaaaa. I originally walked up to this place, saw that it looked like a brewery supply store, and kept walking. Before leaving Solvang I checked that Yelp said it had a beer tasting back room and went it. Glad I did. What a cool place (hidden door bookshelves FTW!), but the owner was very friendly and easy to talk to. I ordered four 5oz sampler beers and they were all delicious, especially the nitro stout and Thai speedway -- lemongrass and ginger somehow just made this beer sing. I'd love to come back here again. Clean, organized and you can tell they are passionate, even though they don't brew any of it themselves (as far as I understood, they are local buyers of great brewer's beers; correct me if I'm wrong). read more

Waiter from a restaurant up the street recommended this place. We showed up and were told it wasn't open, despite their own website clearly stating they were. read more

Went here for the first time this past week. I work in the industry and wanted to check out a new local place as I like to make recommendations to customers throughout my shift of where they should go next or while they are visiting the town. First off I was not aware it was a speakeasy style so when I walked into a beer/bottle shop I was a bit confused until I asked the worked who was very nice about the back room which he then explained to me it's a speakeasy style and the door to enter is hidden down the hallway which he walked me through. He also explained it's $5 for non members, totally fine. They had a good beer selection, unfortunately no food but they did have a nice outdoor area which I always love a nice breeze. The greeting gentleman was super nice, bar staff once inside was not rude but short, with me at least. They chatted it up with all the others which seemed to be regulars. I get it. But no effort was given. I definitely did feel out of place due to that as well as clearly not being a regular, although local. It had a dive bar customer and customer service vibes but in a nicer speakeasy brewery feel. Think of it you're a regular you'll get over the top service and effort, if you're not you won't be treated bad or rude, I want to make that clear no one was. But I definitely didn't feel welcome and felt out of place as everyone knew each other. My recommendation for tourists, go somewhere else as you don't fall into that "regular" customer base. If you're a local and an extreme extrovert check this place out. For now I will stick to the brewery next to the steak restaurant. read more

Hands down, best spot for a cold beer in town. They always have the difficult to find and limited release beers from all kinds of breweries from all over. Great spot to sit down, pet their dog and enjoy a beer. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 they can't pour you a beer at this moment in time. THOUGH, they can help you choose the best ones for you in their HUGE variety of crispy boys they keep in the fridge. This is a Solvang must-do. read more

The BackRoom - Overhaul of take-homes! - Beer Bar Near Me - Solvang, California

Severely disappointed in the poor attitude of the gentlemen at the register. I brought my aunt in 8 minutes before the bar was open and he was incredibly rude. I was clear that I didn't need to enter and just wanted to show her the swinging door to the bar. Likely we would have stayed for drinks and even patiently waited for it to open. We were in no rush, nor did we insist on being served early. Unfortunately the gentlemen there was completely rude, told us no, and said "you can show her at 1 o clock!" It was a few minutes and no reason to be rude. As a local and someone in the industry it was an incredibly poor impression and an awful representation of the valley. I hate posting one star reviews but this was such a major disappointment. Customer service and some manners would get you much farther my friend. read more

The gentleman up front was super rude and the reviews except 1 didn't mention that it was a "members only" type of place that had a $5 fee. Walked in and my boyfriend got growled at by the dog. The whole place/people/vibe reminded me of the movie Get Out. Do with that what you will. read more

Best beer selections and fun environment and people! Great "speak easy" beer bar for the beer lover And they sell wine! The best of both worlds. read more

Great experience. Super cool idea and the beers were delicious, service was super friendly with a huge smile and very inviting.

My boyfriend and I drive over to the Backroom which is about an hour and a half away from us as much as we can. They always have great beers to choose from in their to go fridges. They changed to a "members only" entrance which is great! No more random people causing a scene or causing problems! You know everyone around is well trusted and it's going to be a good time. If you want to complain over a $5 fee to get in then by all means, go get your Stone IPA elsewhere because you can't get it here anyways! Lol Here, the $5 is well worth knowing you're getting great beer and some times beer that is rare to get your hands on. The owners here are what makes this place what it is and you can thank them for going out of their way to bring you that amazing beer! Reading the bad comments is so comical. Why are people so sensitive? Since when was a simple "no" rude? Because they didn't provide full details? Get over it or GET OUT (haha get it?) read more

After trying to figure out where it was located, found it was inside Valley Brewers as a speak easy type place after doing a bit of research. Walked in and was greeted by a guy at the counter. We asked if The BackRoom is through here and he just said "No." A bit confused we asked if he could direct us to it then and he just said "No." again. I pointed out that there were shirts hanging behind him that said The BackRoom on it so what's up with that. He just kind of ignored what I said. We said ok then, thanks and left... not sure if it was some sort of Speak Easy thing like we didn't have the "password" or something but it was just super weird all around and basically didn't even get a chance to try the place because of the "service". read more

Secret entrance through a bookcase, dog friendly, nice owners, interesting and unique taps, so, so, so recommend.

This place was the most unprofessional, disrespectful, distasteful place EVER, and we never even got to step foot in it. 1st off, they have a sign in the front, that says "wear your FUCKING mask!" The guy behind the counter was a beyond rude. We asked if they were open, got a NO, in a disrespectful way. We asked, specifics about when they are open, will open, etc, and failed to give us any info, and was short, and condescending. It left the worst taste in our mouth. Then we called, to try to speak to someone else. A lady answered, and she was just as rude, and unprofessional about details on anything....if I could give it negative 5 starts, I would. And never stepped foot inside. read more

Cool spot we checked out with a recommendation from some locals. Check this place out if you know about the secret

I was visiting here yesterday with a large group. It appeared to be family friendly environment. After a number of hours, purchasing many beers, and even apparel to show our support, I have to say MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL NOT BE BACK. The bartender (we thought owner) had a childish meltdown throwing the baby stroller versus just asking nicely for us to move it to another location. Had we known he'd be that disrespectful to patrons we'd have never given one dime to this brewery. Please don't waste your time or money here. read more

What a fun and worthy of your navigating skills experience! Found this place via Yelp and thoroughly enjoyed every last drop! Almost walked away when we realized we were in the wrong place. Stood in the place for 15 minutes. Was never acknowledged. It looked like they had a decent selection of beers and breweries to choose from but it was locked so I couldn't even grab and take to counter to pay. Horrible customer service. My family and I visited The BackRoom store last September and experienced extreme profiling from the woman that was working behind the register. She asked us several times if we needed help even though she didn't ask a white couple that was in there anything. The area was very small and it was difficult to move around without getting in someone's way. Her eyes were locked on our every move. Thank goodness we had to leave but I'm sad we put money into this business and bought the nitro coffee on tap and passion fruit tea that was disgusting. I recommend a "hi let me know if you need anything" and just stand back and stop staring! Don't come here if you want to get racially profiled and get disgusting coffee/tea on tap read more
