It had been about 6 years since we last visited The Back 9 in Addison, so my husband and I decided to give it another try. The food was actually really good -- my husband had the Mushroom Swiss Burger and I ordered the Garlic Parm wings. Great flavor on both. The service, though, was disappointing. Our drinks were barely filled, and I waited 40 minutes for just 6 wings. What made it more frustrating was seeing the manager and bartender taking shots with customers instead of checking on tables. It definitely explained the slow service. Overall, the food still holds up, but the service and professionalism really need improvement. Hoping for a better experience next time. read more

I had not been to back nine in about 15 yrs so gave it a try and apparently the bartender Jessica was a total... you know what.. for no reason. I was cordial and still tipped her $20 dollars on a $40 dollar tab. Don't go here cause apparently they get mad for no reason. It's actually funny to me cause she was lucky I still tipped her (threw in her face). Other than that the other bartender was nice. But would NOT come back and this was a reason why I hadn't been back in 15 yrs. Times have definitely changed in Addison for sure. I have been to back 9 a handful of times, in the past year or so, with a friend. The last time, I was there, I felt famished, so I ordered their Philly cheese steak pizza& it was surprisingly good. 7/30/22: We stopped by for a drink because we figured they wouldn't be crowded, since they were not showing the UFC fight. Walked inside and immediately was greeted by the smell of smoke. We saw the ashtrays on the tables and realized that it's a smoking bar. We are non smokers, and do not like to have our hair and clothes smelling like smoke. We could tell that the ventilation system couldn't overcome the smokiness. We walked out without ordering anything and went to a non smoking bar nearby. The Back 9 is a solid, local watering hole. Full bar with drinks that can be strong (if that's what tickles your fancy) and a kitchen that makes shockingly good food (considering it's a bar). Two Golden Tee Machines, two dart boards, two pool tables, and shuffleboard means if nothing is on one of the many TV's, you'll have something to entertain you. The cheese fries are good, but can be a tad soggy, and the wings are good though the buffalo was a lot spicier than I expected (I'm working on my spice tolerance). I haven't had a pizza yet but everyone says they're great so that's definitely on my list of to-eat. They have specials everyday, trivia and karaoke during the week, and Bronco's watch parties on Sundays when applicable. I ordered scotch & soda... it arrived with a lime... I knew she wasn't really a bartender. I looked at my drink & it looked like a glass of soda so I asked her to put some more scotch in. Food was good and service was amazing, I forget my servers names but she was working in the morning and absolutely brought light to the place, however I did go early morning so I didn't see the place busy, but I give it 2 stars due to the simple fact that they don't advertise indoor smoking which seems like a big deal. I know what your thinking I'm probably some Liberal or something, but that's not the case. I've always enjoyed new restaurants, and this one has been on the list for a long time, but i just had a newborn and very grateful that did not come with my family. Also 24.95 for a 12 piece wing. This is your average bar, a pool table, air hockey and some arcade type games. Food is not great. Burgers and fries and fried food type of place. This is a smoking bar and believe me you can tell right when you walk in. Today I ordered my food and moved from a table to the bar paid out my tab and all was well. I asked the bartender guy (sorry don't know his name) for some ranch because my chicken definitely needed it. He didn't even look at me and asked who has your ticket? I explained to him that I had already paid out just want to sit at the bar to see the game. The guy doesn't say anything walks off like he didn't hear me and then 10 mins pass he walks up with a small cup of ranch doesn't say anything yet again and leaves. I like this place as a good hangout spot, but I couldn't get into the drinks which was the main reason we came. They just didn't taste good. Idk if we came on the wrong day or what. The atmosphere is cool though. The pool tables and music would probably bring me back to try again. It was kind of crowded the later it got since we did go on a Saturday, but our table was far enough to not be super close to anyone. I do like that they have a nice little outdoor seating area. If I could give this place 0 stars I absolutely would. I recently went to this place looking for some late night drinks with a few friends. The bartender was outrageous disrespectful. My friends and I order our first round of shots and didn't close the tap. We were going to order at least 10 to 12 rounds of shots and always tip great. We only get one round and the Bartender say " If y'all aren't going to tip y'all have to leave". Then he dismissed us when we tried to order again and immediately kicked us out. This place is great if you enjoy a relaxing yet lively atmosphere. The happy hour is great and sometimes gets busy later in the evening. It has two pools tables, old school pac man, pinball, and other arcade games around the back. The bar tenders are friendly, funny, and make sure the atmosphere remains fun and welcoming to anyone. They are one of the last bars you can smoke it but they have a great ventilation system so it doesn't smell too much like smoke. They have a theme night about every night from karaoke to rick&roll bingo almost every night. It has a long bar with plenty of stools and booths lining the walls with floor service if you want to keep more to yourself. read more

Another fabulous find on Yelp! Thanks fellow yelpers! Our friends and us were looking to try some place new for a low key Friday night. We came across the Back 9 and thought we would try it out. When we arrived it was crowded as they had the back room reserved for a birthday party. There was only a couch available in the bar area and so we sat there. About 2 minutes later a server asked if we were interested in sitting on the patio and we said sure. She found us a table and seated us right away. The best part of the patio (aside from the heaters) is that they project sports and movies on the building across the way. It was something I had not seen before and would definitely go back for this. We decided to order a bunch of appetizers and those included back 9 fries (fries, cheese, bacon, jalapenos, and ranch), artichoke dip, fried pickles, and a small meat pizza. Everything was delicious! There were poker tables, hockey tables, and arcade machines (w00t!), all but no waitress after 10 minutes of sitting... Went here with my lady on a light night was literally 1 am we stayed at the room across the street and it was one of the only places open, id already had the feeling before even walking in i'd even told my girl they're not about to serve us but long story short they turned us away for no id even after we told them we were only getting food and would even wait outside or order for pick up the male bartender was very racist i feel and we were instantly profiled before even fully walking through the door. I hadn't been in a few years and met some friend in the area, decided to drop in for food and a quick drink. It was mostly empty but service was incredibly slow, my sister ordered a Tito's and Water, she was brought a shot of Tito's and a glass of water. We needed up not being able to finish our drinks because there was mold in the ice from the ice maker. I politely let the bartender know and he said thanks and left to look at the ice machine but didn't offer to remake our drinks. The bathrooms were awful, our sampler came out mostly cold... we ended up heading elsewhere to get dinner. Don't arrive with freshly washed hair, because you will walk out smelling like an ash tray even after a quick pop in. Two stars for nostalgia purposes I guess. If you are in Addison around lunch time, you must stop in and try the lunch specials. The lunch specials are under $10 with a drink and there are many options to chose from. I recommend the Chicken fried chicken. Not greasy, big chicken breast in a crispy/flaky batter served with the best garlic broccoli and mashed potatoes I've tasted from a restaurant. I work within walking distance and try to visit once a week. All my co workers enjoy lunch there as well. We have never had a bad experience and the staff is friendly, they talk to you, remember who you are, and make sure you are satisfied with your meal. read more

This is our home bar. Smoking is present but not over the top by any means. Cheap enough drinks. It's our favorite bar to come here in addison. They have TONS of regulars for a reason. The food is OH SO good!! If you want a fun but chill place to eat drink and hang out with friends this is it. The staff is also great- and QUICK! They have awesome bar food. Couple years ago the bar tender said it used to be a pizza place so there is a pizza oven that they use. Their pizza is so good, but more importantly, they have my FAVORITE wings in the Dallas area!! I wish I could erase my memory because now I compare them to all others! My bf loves their talapia sandwich, which sounds weird but I agree it's good. The server girls are always super nice. There's always a fun size crowd there, and pretty good patio. I hadn't been back to Back 9 since my original post, then WHAM! Twice in one weekend. I met friends there on Friday night. The service was great. The pizza was good. Drinks were reasonably priced. No complaints. The crowd was interesting, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. There were some UFC fights the following night, some friends wanted to watch them at Back 9 and I found myself there again. They were projecting the fights onto the building next door from their patio. OMG fantastic idea! Except it was a little warm outside, but better than being elbow to elbow standing inside. Their patio areas are great, there are two, and they both were showing the fight. I love that they have the giant Jenga, but it scares me every time it falls. That can get annoying. All in all, decent place, and we know Addison needed it! read more

Been back several times since my first review in mid March. Same great service, (actually pretty outstanding), friendly staff and fun atmosphere. I continue to receive warm welcomes from the owners, Matt, Dallas and Jose. Upon grabbing a seat at the bar, they even recall my preferred wine request; and BF's Miller Lite; On my most recent visit, Jose asked me to try a new wine they wanted to check out. What a nice thought to ask for customer input! I don't even have to order my preferred Merlot. What a great feeling. OR, should one be embarrassed that the staff remember you so well and what you drink? Okay, that's fine with me !! I recently had the spinach artichoke dip which is most tasty with the thin warm crispy chips. Was also good the next day! Next on my list is to try the White Sauce Chicken Pizza! Ya know, it is bar food, but IMO, a little elevated over most. This space is soooo comfy, so welcoming and very nice. BF and I stopped by one Fri night recently, to find no available parking spaces. We were elated to see that they were so busy! A great spot in our 'hood that we really want to survive. Their two lovely patios are so appealing for upcoming good weather. As a side note, I received a PM from a (filtered) one star reviewer (no pic, no friends) that was (as I delicately state) rather "tacky". He was very negative about his experience, to which I responded with my regrets and encouraged him to give Back 9 another try. He responded with "thank you, as an employee of Back 9, your opinion does not matter". Duh....I am not an employee but a very happy patron of this place, just blocks from my 'hood. What a very unhappy folk he must be, as all his reviews are one star reviews. That is simply.....SAD !!! Must be discouraging to get up every day and look that face in the mirror! Heaven help! Bottom line, I love this place! The owners put a lot of effort into making this a spot to come, chill, enjoy and want their customers' input. They LISTEN !!! OH, HOT NEWS! Back 9 is now serving Sunday brunch, from 1000 to around 1600. Jose brought us the new menu and it looks enticing. Biscuits, Sausage & Gravy, Omelets, Sandwiches, entrees, sides, AND a bloody mary bar. Woo Hoo, Sunday, here I come! Grab a spot on one of the patios and celebrate the end of the weekend!
