    Burrito bowl

Cute spot in downtown Stowe! There's not too many quick casual places to grab lunch in the area, but the Avocado pit did the trick! There's not a ton of seating, but we managed to find a spot for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Pretty basic menu with tacos and burritos. The staff were friendly and quick. I ordered a burrito bowl, and I thought it was better than your average bowl from a Mexican spot! The ingredients tasted very fresh and quality. Definitely recommend!

There is a lower level for pickup orders and an upper level with a handful of tables for parties of two and four. There's a kiosk for ordering or you can order at the counter with the cashier. The service was super cordial and efficient. We ordered two beef tacos, a Coca-Cola bottle, a Root Beer bottle, a vegetarian burrito, and chips/queso. The total was $45. The value was closer to $30. There is no table service or wait staff. The beef tacos were great but immediately broke apart. The burrito was incredibly bland to the point I had to empty half a maple habanero sauce bottle sitting on the table to give it any flavor. Barely any sour cream, barely any beans, overpacked with cabbage, and I didn't taste the shredded cheese. The chips portion was ample for the amount of melted cheese, but those chips are cholesterol city! Salt galore made them inedible but because I paid $8 I'm gonna choke down more than a few. Just go to a grocery store, get the ingredients, and treat your family to a homemade meal assembled with your own two hands.

My wife and I were in Stowe for a hiking adventure, and after finishing our hike, we decided to stop at The Avocado Pit -- and we're so glad we did! We both ordered the Pit Bowl, which is essentially a delicious deconstructed burrito without the shell. Each bowl came loaded with rice, black beans, chicken, salsa verde, warm queso, romaine, cilantro sauce, sour cream, sliced jalapeños, extra corn, and, of course, added guacamole (because you can never have too much guac!). Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced -- the kind of meal that feels both satisfying and energizing after a day outdoors. Our server, Corey M., was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. They gave great recommendations and checked in just the right amount, which made the dining experience even better. The ambiance here is relaxed and modern, with a welcoming vibe that fits right in with the Stowe community. It's the kind of place where you can grab a casual meal, refuel after an adventure, and still feel like you're treating yourself to something special. If you're in Stowe and craving fresh, flavorful food with excellent service, The Avocado Pit is a must-visit. We left full, happy, and already talking about coming back the next time we're in town!

Stopped by The Avocado Pit in Stowe the day after Christmas and wow--such a great find. Delicious food, genuinely friendly customer service, and the perfect cozy little café right on Main Street. Everything we tried was so good, and the vibe was just right after the holiday rush. Definitely a spot we be coming back to next time we're in town.

Mushroom salad with house queso fresco

Chill spot in the heart of Stowe. Got the salad with mushrooms. The mushrooms were super tasty, making it a great vegetarian option in the area! (Probably vegan too if you omit the cheese.) The server was kind in answering our questions and helping with our order.

Let's start with what we enjoyed during our visit: the drinks were good... the atmosphere was cool (more like a contemporary "cabin" vibe, which was definitely inviting)... and the staff were all stellar!! Where Ranch Camp let us down on this visit was the food. In fact, we desperately wanted to love the experience because everything LOOKED fantastic. However, all the food we ordered was bland. It all started with the pork nachos, which our party of 3 ordered as an appetizer. It was piled high and dripping with ingredients... but the dish completely lacked flavor. The pork was perfectly tender but tasted flavorless (until I added hot sauce and salt). I would also recommend they serve the dish with pico de gallo or salsa to boost the flavor. We had the same feeling with the burrito bowls. Two of us ordered different burritos (opting for bowls instead of tortillas), and we both thought the flavor was just okay. And on top of that, both of our bowls were lukewarm. In fact, the entrées weren't even hot enough to melt the cheese. I wish I would have sent the food back, but we were in a bit of a hurry. Finally, my friend James ordered the Chicken Quesadilla, which he also thought was "just okay." Oh, and we noted that a table near us sent back food... so not sure what was up with that, but we we weren't surprised based on our overall experience. Final Thoughts: Prior to visiting Ranch Camp, I read plenty of reviews praising the restaurant, so I'd like to think that they were just having a bad day.

The poutine was very good, but I'll grant you that it's maybe hard to get that wrong - but their gravy is on point! Service was great - got there around 5:40pm on a Wednesday, so the wait was non-existent and a table for 5 was easy to accommodate. Duncan was the server, who disclosed that he was new but you wouldn't know it from how he took orders and brought food out. Even threw him a curve by asking for the steak frites with an additional side of brussel sprouts, which he handled no problem - even though there weren't any sides I saw on the menu. Steak was medium rare and perfectly seasoned, and I think I mentioned the chimichurri but it deserves additional mention. Maybe you're wondering about beverages. The maple lemonade is great - it leans harder on the tart side and there are sweeter options around (Cliff House) but I love a lemonade that tastes... lemony. Pineapple cherry punch was also a hit - but that's secondhand hearsay, unlike my direct opinion on the chimichurri - which I would drink if I could. Definitely check this place out. The table near ours seemed to immensely enjoy their meal and also get great service from Duncan.

The crust was definitely a highlight coming out of the brick oven. We all also got burgers and shared the smoked wings. The smoked wings left some smoking nuts to be desired, and the dry rub was not very flavorful. I probably would not get that again. They were OK for wings, but definitely not for smoked wings. The burgers were very classic burgers delicious but nothing special our friends got the classic burger while we got the bench burger, which came with bacon and onions. Funnily enough I thought our french fries were kind of burnt but still good. Finally, we wrapped up with the cookie skillet and that was the absolute highlight. I wish I could have eaten four of those by myself. When we got there, the weight was about an hour. We were able to put our names down until they called us. Once we receded, the service was great, and the food came out very quickly. It is a really cute spot and Stow and probably one of the better casual sit down restaurants in the area. It's super tough to get seated anywhere during peak ski season so even an hour wait was on the shorter end for a lot of these spots

Con - none of the 4 of us even liked our meals - they were inedible. We descended the narrow steep staircase into the dark dining room; outdoor seating was not open. The waitress promptly brought us menus and waters. There was a good variety of wines and we settled on the Sancerre. Charging for bread is not a good trend so $10 for 4 Parker House Rolls was disappointing. We also ordered the mussels and asiago fries. The chef seems to favor creamy white wine sauces - the added cream adds a heavy taste without adding flavor. The shrimp & sausage on mushroom ravioli had the cream sauce and cubes of sausage. The pasta primavera also had the cream sauce. It was super bland. We added chicken (see the photo of the chicken breast added to the top side of the dish not cooked in the dish). The salmon and its corresponding carrots were spiced with bebere which is very mild but not particularly enjoyable. And finally, the grilled rib-eye was bad, really bad. It was gelatinous and the worst steak we've ever had. I've only ever seen a steak cooked like this when it's cooked at too low a heat. We fed the leftover steak, chicken, and salmon to the dog.
