I went in very blonde asking to be a more natural blond and I left with completely black hair! in the event, ashley made me feel like there was nothing she nor anyone else could do to save my hair... Shockingly, the way that ASHLEY made me feel was actually WORSE then the accident itself. Coming from the beauty industry, I have never witnessed nor experienced such lack of empathy and accountability for a customer problem as crucial as this one was. My experience with Ashley was by far the worst hair salon experience I've ever had. People that care this little just shouldn't work in the beauty industry. Great first experience! I wasn't sure about color and cut but sweet Rachel did a full consult with patience- pointing out different styling techniques on how much maintenance would be required. She was very knowledgeable, friendly and calming... from the consultation to the head and hand massage... I felt pampered. Nice, clean, space stocked with products too! I'll be back- Thank you! Ps. I went to this salon hoping for a great summer crop but left with a style that mirrored that of my hairdresser. I asked her twice to cut it shorter. I found her to be grumpy/unfriendly (bad day?) and the salon only had a fan blowing on a 100 degree day. However, my three stars are for the fantastic updo I had about 4 years ago at this salon. Also, my cut is not a disaster. It simply wasn't what I asked for. My advice- go for standard cuts or color, but don't expect anything cutting edge from this little salon. read more

I started going here a few years ago after getting my hair cut for $20 at other places that charge you to blow dry and give you a so-so cut..... My haircuts generally cost $35 at this salon, and i have loved every cut I have gotten! I even had my hair done here for my wedding, it was expensive $300- but it included a pre-do to make sure i got what i wanted! Marqui is the real deal. She's a senior stylist with Aveda and you can tell. She fixed my color for me. She asked great questions and was extremely upfront with me about what she could and could not do. After fixing my color, I decided to let her give me the big chop. Again, she hit it out the park!! Jessica does my hair and my eyebrow waxes whenever I get a chance to come in. She's super courteous and professional and does great work.

I asked the stylist to dye my hair light brown. after 2 hrs, the stylist pulls off the foils then washes my hair...I see yellow and red, then she used a toner to take out the brassy color for the 2nd time after 30 min of waiting to get it taken off...at the end my hair ends up with multi colors and completely fried. they had the audacity to ask me to pay for a botched job. I was in the salon for 5 hours and I was very unhappy and pissed off. maybe that is why the salon only had me and a little boy as a customer throughout the day....i'm not sure why these folks gave this salon high reviews...my hair is screwed up. I really want to give them a good review, but can't. I was a client at Artistic for 3 years, and had found my PERFECT hair stylist. When I called for my next appt (Spring, 2008), I found out my hair stylist left. Unfortunately, she left Artistic for bigger and better things, and I was left hair-stylist-less. I would have appreciated a call as I had been going there for years. Life goes on, and I trusted the receptionist to find me a good stylist to replace the one I lost. Well, she set me up with an appt, telling me that she was "squeezing" me in. That should have been the first clue. I showed up, and as always, there was seating, magazines to keep me occupied, and the place was clean. I was introduced to my new stylist and off we went. She spent the majority of the time on me, but also had a woman under the dryer that she checked on. That kinda irked me. I told her that I wanted to keep my hair long enough so I could put it back in a pony tail if I wanted. Not rocket science, right?! Ha, read on... She also mentioned how busy she was (I need to relax Ms. Stylist, not hear about your problems!). I told her what the receptionist told me, that she "squeezed" me in, and my stylist was visibly annoyed. Was there too much estogen flying around in that place? There seemed to be a little quarrel going on there, but what do I know?! After a half hour, she said she was done. I only had a cut, but my hair cuts usually take 45 minutes. I pulled my hair back, as if I was going to put it in a pony tail, and some parts weren't long enough to be pulled back. :-o She said, "Most of your hair can be pulled back." WTF?! Ok, my hair can grow back. No worries. Hakuna matata. Anyway, I put my tip on the counter, paid at the front ($45-ish, plus or minus $5), and left. I got home and noticed a really long clump of hair that never got cut! So I took out my scissors and cut it myself. Ugh. I wanted to go back and get a refund and my tip back. I never went back and I never will. One thing about the reviews on hair stylists is that, for me, it's the stylist that matters, not so much the establishment. read more

I live in Japan, and now when I fly back I make sure a visit with Haika is on my itinerary (I probably spelled her name wrong). She is the cute stylist with the European accent...she is amazing! I can't speak for any other stylists there, but trust me, I have had my hair cut around the world and in my opinion, she is as good as it gets! read more

This place is fantastic! My stylist, Amelia, really knew how to handle my hair and make it the right shape and style for my face. I also got a complimentary hand massage while my color was processing. It was all in all a great service! I left feeling like a new person and my blowout was amazing! I can hardly say enough about The Arisitic and my marvelous hair stylist, Louann. I dropped by early one morning and had a good chat with the receptionist. I needed a new stylist and a hair cut. I wanted to discuss styles and suitability for my facial structure. I needed a new look. We also talked about costs. I made an appointment with Louann and cannot be, in any way, happier with the results. Marvelous. An artist. While I waited for my appointment I asked about the Aveda make up and was treated to a new eye make up look as well. I can't recommend the shop or LouAnn highly enough. read more

This place is a little hidden gem up here in Auburn! Seriously.... I've been getting my hair done in this area for more than 15 years and I've NEVER had an experience like this one. Jill was fabulous! She started out by educating me on my hair type, and things not to use in my hair. Then, she gave me a head massage with essential oils (included). The time and attention she gave me was unprecedented. Oh, and the whole time I was there I was listening to relaxing music and sipping on the best tea I've had in years! I've shopped here frequently for products, but from here on I will make the drive into Roseville to the Aveda store. On several occasions they were out of the various products I had intended to purchase. The staff has minimal knowledge regarding Aveda products and told me "there was so difference" in 2 or more products . To top it off the staff is generally rude and condescending, offering no help or gratitude towards their customers. I'm done with this place! read more

What a HORRIBLE experience. Went for a cut/color (Hair to my waist). # 1, she cut A LOT off. I was very specific that I wanted only a trim. Not freaking over this as it will grow back. Then I asked for chunky bright highlights. I received barely noticeable blended low lights. It was a pretty color, not at all what I had asked for for $240 + tip. I called back asking for a do-over. BIGGEST MISTAKE of my life. She added bleach and more bleach (instead of saying, I'll still honor your re-do at no charge but we should wait and give your hair a rest). Eventually she looked under the foil and in a panicked voice she said "I think this is as far as we go", I said okay and ran to the wash basin. She could barely comb me out with the severe damage of my hair. As she blew dry I could see the chunks falling out. She demurely asked me "when will you wash your hair next". (it was a Thursday, before a HUGE holiday weekend) and I said whenever you suggest. She said Monday, your hair is very fragile. I now am officially looking like a moron, I tipped her "again" and look like I did my hair myself in my bathroom with a big bottle of cheap bleach. I WILL NEVER go back to this salon EVER and will tell everyone I know. Auburn is a small town. She should have admitted her error and tried to rectify. By the way, my hair was all 1 length, now I have so much breakage, it appears I have bangs. :( read more

I've been very please with everything I've thrown at her. You see, I like to change my hair colour at least two times a year. I have had great results each time. A professional from start to finish. She takes her time to talk to me to make sure I know of options when I want to change. I have been seeing Sarah a stylist at this salon for about a year. Always a good experience until today. I went to have my usual-highlight and cut done with Sarah a few days ago-but under her suggestion I agreed to a technique called "color melting". Think Drew Barrymore. After the blowdry, she said it wasn't like it should have been so she redid it-her suggestion. 5-1/2 hours later-I was done. Very done. When I got in the car I noticed that I had a horizontal color stripe on the left side of my head. I drove home and called the salon to have Sarah fix it ASAP. She couldn't get me in until today-4 days later. During our consultation Sarah was defensive even though she could see the horizontal line in my hair. The blonde color at the base was orange as well and I wanted it fixed. I wasn't confident that she would be able to do this without over processing my hair, so we decided together to go back to what she had always done in the past. 3-1/2 hours later I was done and it looked good. I went to the lobby and was told by the counter lady that I was to pay for the correction. Even though I paid for full services 4 days ago-she wanted me to pay for the correction. I protested and showed her the photos of my hair before the correction but that didn't seem to faze her. She insisted that I pay claiming that I didn't have to pay for the correction they did last week-so this time I would have to pay. Since none of this was my fault I refused to pay. Sarah never came out front to explain why she was having the salon charge me-nor did she mention this in our consultation. Not very mature. It was my word against Sarah-the stylist hiding in the backroom. *Long story short- at the Artistic Salon-the customer is always wrong and they are always right-and they don't care about losing their loyal customers. read more

WONDERFUL!!! Walked in at 7:30pm with my 14 year old who was in tears after having her hair seriously butchered at a Super Cuts. The receptionist called Heike at home and she came right over and gave my girl a beautiful cut and style. They went the extra mile for us and we couldn't be more appreciative. I was visiting from out of town and needed a haircut after convincing from my family. After locating this salon on yelp, I was more than impressed. The service was the best I have received ever at a salon. Lou Anne was more than accommodating and patient. I was avoiding cutting my hair due to my receding hairline and contemplated shaving instead. I had such a great experience at this salon! I went in on a saturday and saw Jessica and my friend saw Sarah. They were so so nice. They also did such a great job on our hair. My friend was donating her hair to locks of love and I was trying a new color. The color was so shiny and pretty and my friend left so excited about her cut. They also were telling us how they are going to New york for a hair show and Jessica won a contest and will be on stage. I have never been so pampered at a salon.
