I've been here a few times over the years as it's within walking distance of my home and I must say that the meal I had this past weekend has far surpassed any meal I've had on LBI in the past 30 years. Unimpressed - the smoked fish on toast special appetizer was a dip but I don't recall the waitress mentioning that in her description. The entrees came out Luke warm and the scallops were cooked perfectly but the creamy sauce was tasteless. Maybe the chef is off on Monday we thought. read more

I came here with my parents, boyfriend, sister, and brother in law on vacation a couple of weeks ago. I can honestly say I have not ever had a meal where everyone's dinner was something I would've ordered. My parents each got the duck breast, I got the half chicken, someone got salmon, someone got the sea bass, and someone had the kimchi short ribs. Everything was so delicious, our waitress took pictures of the group, and the wines were on tap! I had never had that before but they were aerated so perfectly. As a local, I always try to support local businesses, especially a year-round place. Went for dinner on a Saturday night and was greeted by amazingly friendly hostesses and sat promptly. I was mostly just disappointed about our food. Mostly everything came out cold, and a few people in my party sent food back, as well as the server telling someone in my party that they screwed up the order and she got salmon instead of swordfish. WOW the Duck made date night a complete success, great evening fine dining experience but also has the fun bar bistro feel without the need for a suit and gown. A little pricey but a real foodie's place to go. Went on a Saturday night 8:00 based on yelp search. 1st choice restaurant had a 1 hour wait. Cool trendy casual not kitchey atmosphere on LBI. Grilled Octopus was fantastic. I know it sounds weird but you have to try it. Presentation and taste were a 10! I had crab cakes which were good. Daughter had the scallop and mussel bouillabaisse- best meal of 3- fresh fresh fresh. Hubby had lobster roll which was good- portion a little small for him. Came with tons of fries. Presentation of his dish compare to others - meh. 3 beers no dessert, 2 aps and 3 dinners $150$$. Also had live music and bar area that we could see from dining - not too crowded which was nice. Similar to Susie S, my disappointment is less with the food and drink and more with our servers reaction to my issue with my dinner. Our group of 6 sat down for dinner, and when we asked her recommendation on the fish selections, she told us the swordfish was caught locally every day. Ok - done! Since my husband and I both wanted fish, I chose the tuna as well - figuring we'd share. When it came - she was right - the swordfish was excellent (husband grabbed that when he saw the tuna was just seared- which he doesn't like). No problem - I'm a huge sushi fan, so took the tuna. Here's where the problem came. The plate was sprinkled with flake salt and everything - from the fish to the veggies to the purple sticky rice tasted of nothing BUT salt. Problem 2 - our waitress had come by already to ask if everything was ok - before any of us had had a chance to even try our food. And now she was nowhere in sight. After a while I have up and my husband and I shared his swordfish. When we finally spotted her and flagged her down, I told her the problem with the over-salted meal. Her response? "You should have told me sooner." To make matters even worse - she didn't take it off the bill!! Seriously? You remove an untouched meal from the table, deliver THAT response and then CHARGE ME FOR IT? Sorry Arlington. Bad customer service. I won't be back. Excellent selection of beer. The wait staff are friendly, very customer-oriented, and capable. The food is hit or miss. We had the shrimp/grits/andouille sausage and a heritage tomato and ricotta salad for appetizers. Both were excellent. I had the fararoeh salmon with labneh and falafel. The salmon was cooked nicely but came loaded with shaved red onions-an unpleasant surprise, as I hate onions. The falafel was overly loaded with coriander and the labneh was weirdly sweet. But that may all be my own preferences; YMMV. The place is very loud and not ideal for dinner conversation. read more

We've been meaning to come here for some time, but never made the trip until this weekend. So glad we finally did! The ambiance, food and drink couldn't be better. We went to the bar area and on the way through the dining area smelled something a bit "off". But we were thirsty and went for a drink. Watered down and overpriced and inattentive bartenders. We were there and heading back to Philly so we stayed for dinner. It was disappointing and frankly unpleasant. Crab cakes were more bread than crab and tasteless. My porchetta sandwich was plain bad. Shredded pork turned out to be a rubbery pork chop sliced into three pieces. The white toast it was on--yes white toast--was like over buttered Wonder bread. Worst sandwich I can remember. Finally the wait staff or lack thereof. At first felt bad for the one waitress but she had time to chat with bartenders. A couple next to us walked halfway through their drinks having been abandoned for 20 minutes. Abandon this ship. read more

Very nice change from the terribly outdated Bayberry Inn. Designed like a colonial gathering place with natural wood floor, wood tables, etc. Excellent menu with fish, meat, chicken options. Fresh fish options as well. My date and I had the tuna special which was a 70 lb yellowfin caught and bought in Barnegat Light that day. Was cooked rare with kale and a spicy mustard aioli. Excellent! Great microbrew selections including "flights" to try multiple beers. Excellent service. Would definitely go back. Only negative was the sound level which was very high even for a late dinner with an empty dining room. read more

Went here on Sunday August 30th at 11:30 for brunch. Looked at their beer menu on the site the night before. Well when we got there the list was no longer valid and was given the updated list. The beer I picked then decided to kick so didn't get anything I was looking for. Ordered the biscuits and gravy, the plate was very hot but unfortunately the food was only warm. There could have been a little more sausage and gravy. There were 2 orders at the table for Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce looked more like a slice of melted cheese and the eggs weren't runny at all. Makes us think they had them all just ready to go. Didn't look like the place was going to be that busy to have stuff pre-made. Waited until our meal was half way threw to bring out an order of fries that was ordered with our meals. No complaint about the staff they were great. But the food leaves more to be desired. read more

We have been vacationing in LBI for the last 4 years in Ship Bottom and were so happy to see this new restaurant. My children are not picky eaters and we were truly looking forward to this dining experience. We arrived at 6:40 and were told it would be a 30-40 min wait. While looking at the many empty tables I was surprised. However we decided to wait and were happy when about 15-20 min later we received a txt that our table was ready. Our server was very enthusiastic but when I asked him for his recommendations he quickly suggested the 2 most expensive items on the menu. I also noticed that although they offer children's items you must ask for them as they do not appear on the menu. We ordered muscles and the meat & cheese board for starters. My glass of Pinto Grigio arrived in an over sized wine glass less than 1/4 full. The muscles, although very tasty had 5 muscles that never opened. And the meat & cheese board had 2 very thin slices of salami, 1 slice of prosciutto that looked as if it was cut in half and 2 hunks of cheese. Problem was 1 of the hunks was ALL rind, not even edible. I brought this to the attention of the waiter and he said it was very obvious & he would advise the manager. (The cheese board was $16) It was at least another 1/2 hour before our entree arrived. 2 of my children ordered plain pasta with marinara sauce and we were not advised it was basically a side order. My boys are good eaters. The lobster roll my oldest got looked like a lunch order size portion with a plate full of fries. My husbands scallops we're very small on a bed of polenta with no veggie accompaniment. My fish special was tasty but very small for the almost $30 charged. When we received the check I saw that there was not even an accommodation made for the practically inedible cheese board we received. Although our waiter really tried I have to say that I was very disappointed by the quality and portion size for the price. Went here last night with my husband. He was told that this was a great restaurant. Now it's been here for awhile. Very disappointed. They have one girl working the floor. Right from the start. No one is at the door to seat you. So you stand around looking like a dummy until the waitress seats you. I would like to say that our waitress was a very pleasant young lady. But she was doing the job of three people. Her attitude was terrific. She talked so fast that we had a hard time understanding her at times. Could be because she was so busy. Now the bar was packed. So that might be the place to go. The menu is strange and expensive. But we were told the Hamburger was delicious. It was nothing special. I didn't want French fries and they didn't offer anything else. My martini was served in and old champagne glass. Just not happy with this place. Glad we went here before we took our friends. We went to the Arlington with 10 friends the atmosphere was fun and the service was great. I'm not one to give a mediocre review but the menu is limited not a lot of seafood and the appetizers are good but there is not an abundance of choices. We loved our bartenders and waitresses it just needs a few extra choices on the menu. There is a separate bar menu ( try the wings they are excellent) so I would recommend to hang at the bar and enjoy! read more

Lets start with the positive. I had delicious BBQ short ribs. Unfortunately, that was really the only positive. Discounting this restaurant (formally The Bayberry) is under new ownership and like any new establishments, it will take a bit for the staff to get coordinated, there were too many things wrong with it that will prevent us from going back any time soon. I will keep an eye on the reviews. There were (12) of us seated in the front at a string of tables along the banquette. As I said, we can overlook the service aspect being new and us being a large group, but still, the service was lacking in areas it should not have been (re-fills of water, plates cleared, not knowing who got what, etc.) The place was really noisy and I do not mind noise in a bar atmosphere, just not a restaurant. The theme seemed to be caught between trying to be an open restaurant or a craft beer bar. I commend them for trying something different, but the prices were not in line with the food quality/quantity. For example, 4 sea scallops (small) for $28--that's $7/scallop. The lobster roll was pitifully small and spreading out the 10 French fries to make it look like there is more on the plate! ($18) Seriously, I can get a better lobster roll at a food cart for a fraction of that price. A friend had the red snapper that was tiny on the plate. It was covered in some salsa topping to make it look larger--that was a special and expensive. All in all, out of the 12 of us, I would say 9 were disappointed in their choice, due to quality/quantify, and we were 6 guys and six gals most of which are a size 4--and they were complaining about the quantity....... yikes! Now, the beers. I really liked the concept of craft beers. One of my favorite spots in NYC is the Pony Bar for exactly that concept. This place missed the mark and should have stuck to local beers and not trying to introduce international beers, some at $10.50 for 10 oz. Some of the beers were down right awful. Funny thing to watch out for--the beers are on a clip board and you have to roll it over to see the menu. One of the pages was flipped over and hit the candle, infighting it... that was funny. By the way, the lighting in here was not very good. As for the environment, the bar should have been up front and center. After the summer crowds are gone, so will the people. This place will be empty and the bar is shoved in the back behind an etched glass partition The place was baron and sterile looking and all the seating was on hard wood chairs except for the banquette. They needed to bring the bar up front with pub stile tables for group seating and maybe a few high-top barrels with seats for two or three scattered about and put the restaurant in the back and leave the one on the side. I loved the banquette idea, but that did not work for where it was. They also need to stick with local craft beers--there are so many from the metro area that are killer in quality and cheap. Stick with what works. Finally, they need to up their portion size--this isn't tappas--and lower the pricing. After the season, they are going to remain busy up until December because the island is starved for new places, but the locals will go back to simple after a visit. They have the right idea, but they need to go visit the Pony Bar in NYC to re-align themselves with what works. They have the potential, but right now, it appears they are off-course (no pun intended). read more

I went to The Arlington Tuesday September 3, 2013. Like others on this site, I went because its new and I'm always looking for new and different on the island and not just quantity but quality and a good dining experience. The week before I had dined in midtown Manhattan. Starting with the menu, if this was manhattan...OK, but on LBI I thought the menu limited, aside from beer, and the prices rivaling the island to the north. The food was prepared to a turn and priced commensurate but priced to the isle of Manhattan. And yes the room loud and tables spread out but the room was too loud, and not full, and the table spacing I thinik is due to parking space to seating ratio, so we can't get jammed in. But, the one thing I cannot get over, or digest, is I never, ever, saw a wine list where it was less expensive to order wine by the glass than order the bottle? Could someone please explain that to me? On a lesser note, If you're charging those prices and striving for an upscale ambiance, No wait staff in jeans. The following evening I dined at a restaurant bar in the middle of the marsh outside Leeds Point and the food, quality and preperation, rivaled and exceeded The Arlington's and the wait staff were dressed better. Our waitress was actually wearing a skirt. And whether you based the bottle of wine on four or five glasses, the bottle cost less than the per glass price! By the way, I don't think the restaurants in the Bellegio in las Vegas charge as much for a bottle of Duckhorn as The Arlington. read more

My wife and I just got back from the Arlington- I really enjoyed it the first time but my second time there (just now) blew me away. I'm an extremely picky restaurant goer and everything from service to presentation was nothing but superb. Paul, one of the owners, recognized me From my first visit and thanked me for coming back. Mandalyn, our waitress, was so upbeat and bubbly (not in the annoying kind of way) but enthusiastic about her job and sincere. She was perfect, all of our food was perfect- one of the best duck dishes I've ever had. So happy to have a new gem of a restaurant on this island. Can't wait to go back this summer! read more

Fantastic classy/casual bar and restaurant in Ship Bottom with extensive draft beer selection, craft cocktails, and nicely curated food offerings. Arrived on a Saturday night in July at around 9pm with a group of 6 and sat at high tops in the bar area. We ordered some Pimm's Cup cocktails and a few draft beers from the bar, along with a couple of orders of hand cut fries to share (they didn't taste like they had been frozen ever). The Pimm's Cups were made correctly - nicely muddled with both fruit and cucumber. Their beer selection is good, and they cleverly stamp beers they are out of as "kicked" and new options as "tapped" on their paper menus. I was disappointed that the Lagunitas IPA had kicked, but the bartender recommended some alternatives. After ordering a couple of rounds at the bar, servers began directly attending to our table, and we ordered more fries, fried chicken skins, mac and cheese, and clams. My sister seemed to really enjoy the Mac and cheese, then again that isn't hard to mess up! The chicken skins were drizzled in syrup, and generally tasted good, but could have been fried a couple of minutes longer. If you like the taste of pork rinds and fried things, you'll love these. The steamed clams were tasty but the portion was a bit skimpy for $13. Overall for 3-4 rounds of drinks and shared plates for 6 we paid $150 + $30 well-deserved tip. Great atmosphere, service, and menu. Excited to try their new place in Barnegat Light! read more

I would have gladly given 4-5 stars during the 2013 season, but I recently revisited for an Easter brunch and have serious qualms about returning. The restaurant was surprisingly not busy for a brunch, but our server was still fairly rude and inattentive. We ordered several appetizers in addition to our brunch entree, and please be warned: DO NOT ORDER THE CHEESE PLATE! For $18 we were given a line of mustard, four thinly sliced triangles of cheese, four thin slices of deli meat, two slices of bread, small pickles, and what we later discovered was a dollop of pate. At the price, we expected it would at least be something several people could share. They should be ashamed to be serving something like that at that price; maybe they're trying to recoup the cost of the pieces of slate they serve it on. For entrees, the Eggs Chesapeake featured over-done eggs on a fishy tasting crabcake and every order of the Nutella/Banana Stuffed Hazelnut Crusted french toast was severely burned and had just a dot or two of nutella in the middle. This is definitely not an inexpensive restaurant--2013 saw the restaurant fairly justified in the price with the quality of food they produced. This start to 2014 isn't shaping up as well. Hopefully the owner/head chefs review what's happening in the kitchen, maybe review that travesty of a cheese plate as well, and make some significant changes. There are plenty of other just as good restaurants both on and off the island at this price point. read more

First time here and wasn't intending on going. The sushi place across the street was closed and it was the next obvious choice. It was surprisingly full for an off season Saturday at 1130, a good sign. I was promptly seated and taken care of. They have close to 20 draft beers on tap and a good selection of house cocktails. The menu is reasonably priced and should have something for the more fickle eater. I ordered the Cuban panini. The bread is perfect, thin but not tough with a great crunch that doesn't rip your teeth out. The pork was savory and tender. The pickles left a little to be desired but they are fresh. In the future I'll make this the destination instead of the fall back option. read more

TL;DR: This aesthetically pleasing venue offers little when it comes to menu cohesiveness. Coupled with forgettable service and overly salty dishes, the price doesnt match the experience. My family reviewed the menu we recieved in our LBI Welcome Packet and we were excited to try what appeared to be a New York City gem transplanted in LBI. Upon arriving we noted the decor as sea shack meets log cabin. I settled on the tuna entree with miso sauce over rice with mushrooms and what I believe was a pineapple sauce. I had a porter from their extensive beer selection. My brother had the fried soft shell crab with avacado infused dressing of sorts. My girlfriend had the scallops. Long story short, my brother has many food allergies and, to play it safe, he requested no dressing and melted butter for dipping. He recieved a fully dressed dish with no melted butter. After 25 minutes and flagging down the man at the front we were able to get him what he ordered. Me on the other hand, I was left waiting well passed that for my drink order. My tuna entree had rice saltier than the tuna. My brother liked his dry rendition of the crab and the scallops were up to par for my girlfriend. One of my fiancé and I favorites on the island. Open all year for us locals. Beautiful rustic bar will a delicious menu of drinks. The bar tenders are awesome and attentive. Small bar bites are awesome while just stopping in the grab a few drinks. Dinner can be a little pricier, but your getting good quality fresh cooked food. Definitively try there "chicken skins" they are mind blowing !!! I have never had a bad mean here and have been here at least a dozen times this past year. read more

I had big expectations for the Arlington when I took my family there last night. Instead, we ended up with a waitress who was lacking warmth and gave us a "rushed" feel and 4/5 people complaining about their meal. The French onion soup was bland, the crab cakes were mushy and lacking actual crab, and the $40 New York strip was small and fatty. I was so disappointed in the experience . After eating at The Bayberry Inn for years, my sister and I were very excited to try the newly renovated restaurant, The Arlington. Absolutely beautiful space with a farm to table theme that just works. The beer menu is top notch but the bartenders need a little work. We waited an hour for our table (which was understandable without a reservation) and were sat in the large open room by the bathrooms that I don't feel is used very often, but it was a very busy night. The acoustics in this room were terrible and it was loud as hell. BUT, once we asked to be moved over to the other side, which the staff very kindly obliged, we were much happier. Appetizer meat and cheese plate was very little for to much $. Oysters on the half shell were great. But ALL was forgiven when we received our meals! Scallops to die for and a perfectly cooked ribeye. Accompanied by very well thought out veggies and sauces. Our server was very nice, and menu knowledge was spot on. Wait time on our apps and entrees I'm sure were not her doing. A meal that will be remembered but a very noisy room and a slow bartender we want to forget. read more

I've only been here for happy hour so I'm going to stick with the 3 stars even though I really like this place. As a note, I have not had the food but it's great for HH. $3 Yuenglings and other reduced prices are always nice and appreciated. It's definitely a trendy, high end type of place and is very different from a lot of the other restaurants in LBI. The craft beer selection is amazing, if that's your thing. 20+ on tap and they rotate them all the time. The bar itself is actually really cool, too, as it's an actual concrete slab. There are plenty TV's so you can definitely catch whatever game is on. We actually came in Sunday during the World Cup final and the place was absolutely packed. They do a good business during HH but there weren't many people eating during our recent trips. I don't know if I'm going to eat here but I'll definitely continue to stop in from time to time. The HH prices are great and the service is pretty good. read more

We had a delicious dinner here with outstanding service. Our waitress, Liz, was possibly the nicest waitress we have ever had. She was attentive, helpful and very kind to our daughters. My husband enjoyed two beers, muscles and the burger. I had one of their house infused tequila drinks, which was a hair strong for my taste, but good. For dinner I had the chicken entree with hush puppies. We all shared the kale caesar- outstanding!! If you are looking for a delicious meal in LBI, this is an excellent option.
