When i was told we were staying one of 6 rooms above a bar I imagined the Leaky Cauldron! The rooms are small but charming & cute. We laughed at the tiny TV high on the wall. FYI if you want to shower at night you need to let them know since in many places in Ireland the hot water heaters are on a timer. The owner Liz was very helpful, giving us suggestions on where to go. We booked this place specifiy to he close to the Dingle Peninsula. When we first arrived it was after 9pm & we hadn't eaten dinner yet. The barman asked the cook to stay & he did (kitchen had closed). Great customer service. The food was great too. Breakfast each morning was fantastic- made to order Irish breakfast. They also had gluten free bread!

This is for the pub only: The best fish and chips I've EVER had!! Friendly atmosphere, the staff are attentive and always willing to hear or tell a tale. Lots of smiles, lots of laughter. The chef has completely mastered the flavor and technique of making fish and chips!! We had to go back a second time just to have more of the perfectly cooked fish! The batter was crispy and flaky without separating from the fish. The fish was super fresh out of Dingle bay, the texture was firm enough to cut but then melted like butter once in your mouth! Most fish and chips require malted vinegar, lemon, and tartar sauce, THIS fish did not! It was amazing just by itself. The slightly spiced up tartar sauce was a wonderful addition, but not necessary, in fact I used it for my chips mostly an only slightly for the fish. If you are ever in the Ring of Kerry or Dingle Peninsula areas, the fish and chips here at The Anvil Bar are worth whatever about of driving you need to do to get here!!

If you can brave the narrow Irish roads, however, the rather remote location is perfect for accessing the Dingle Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry.

This is a fine, fine place to visit during a trip to the Dingle Peninsula in Southwest Ireland. My…read morefriends and I ended up here because we were hiking the "Dingle Way," a multi-day hiking trail that circles the peninsula. The trail begins in Tralee and its Day 1 is about 13 miles and finishes in a place called "Camp," where Ashes is located. The food here was hearty and perfect for recovery after a long hiking day. Good, fresh, cold pints and a few local brews. Great Irish ambience and decor as well, from old Guinness paraphernalia to mid-century kitsch. It felt great to be there. The staff was really nice and accommodating as well. And that is for me, THE best part about our visit here. See, due to our overnight/redeye flight to Ireland from the USA, we arrived in Tralee at around 1:45pm and only began our hiking trail at around 3:00pm. We had to cover 13 miles and get to Ashes before they closed for the night, and we got there *just in time.* Yet the folks there cooked us a great meal and treated us so well. We couldn't thank them enough. I read one of the poorer reviews below; some travelers may find it a bit pricey but to be honest it's on par for the area - we were walking on foot there for 9 days and this was not at all overpriced. And as a spicy-food eater, I've always found myself adding a little salt, pepper, and hot sauce to most dishes in ireland ;) We loved Ashes and I'll surely be back if I find myself on the Dingle Peninsula again.

It reminds me of the old Ireland with the low roof & timber beams inside. A true snug. The have a huge fireplace that was lit even in the movers of June!! Outside seating with a view of the ocean but beware it's generally not warm here & the breeze & spray from the ocean can make it rather chilly. Dress accordingly. Spontaneous music erupts at anytime with locals bringing violins, guitars & their beautiful voices for a singalong or just a ballad. I loved everything here & as I say if you want that authentic Irish feel, come here & you will have wonderful memories which will make you return.

We didn't give it much thought until we saw signs for Tralee while on our trip. We headed for Camp and as we walked to the door, out walked Mike. I said, are you Mike O' Neill? Yes I am, he said. I told him that we had traveled thousands of miles to see him. He looked puzzled and said, you have have you? I told him our friend, PJ from States, said to say hello. He smiled and said that was 10 years ago! We stayed for a couple of hours and had a wonderful time. Even though it was a few years ago, we would love to go back. This is exactly the type of pub we wanted to visit. Cozy atmosphere and friendly people. Stop here if you can.
