Every detail of her service was handled beautifully. A big thank you to Olive for making our evening so enjoyable! As for the food, the pizza was absolutely delicious! Our steak had a wonderful smoky flavor from being cooked over an open flame, although we weren't particularly impressed with the meat itself. The salad and potatoes, however, were excellent. Unfortunately, the chocolate dessert served in a glass was disappointing. I understand the idea of balancing chocolate with salt and pistachios to create a more complex flavor profile, but this dessert was surprisingly not sweet at all. It genuinely tasted like salty chocolate, which I found unpleasant. Definitely not something we enjoyed. One other thing stood out to us from a hospitality perspective. We were seated directly across from the pizza chef and the chef working the open-fire grill, yet neither acknowledged us throughout the evening. Not even a smile, eye contact, or a simple "How's the food?" I completely understand that chefs are focused on cooking and that guest interaction isn't necessarily their responsibility. However, when you're working in an open kitchen with guests sitting right in front of you, a little acknowledgment goes a long way. What made it particularly noticeable was that they were chatting with each other throughout the evening while seemingly ignoring the guests just a few feet away. It felt rather unwelcoming, especially in an otherwise excellent hospitality environment. Overall, we loved the atmosphere, the hostesses were wonderful, Olive provided outstanding service, and most of the food was delicious. I have to apologize to my Sicilian Grandfather who passed away a number of years ago, because my dinner at The Annex Kitchen felt like Sunday dinner. My wife and I had an amazing experience last night- from the appetizer to our main dishes. Everything was executed just perfectly- I wouldn't change a thing with the food. We started with the arancini,which are deep fried risotto balls with mozzarella and pesto embedded in. These little delights are a must try as they are the perfect blend of creamy , salty and crunchy. For our entrees, we ordered the Margherita pizza and rigatoni with sausage. First of all, the wood fired pizza was cooked perfectly with a nice balance of sweetness from the pizza sauce and crunch factor from the dough. The homemade rigatoni pasta was to die for with the sausage ragu working its magic including a subtle spice added throughout to give it that nice kick of flavor. Well done team Annex! The Stone Fruit Burrata was such a beautiful combination of sweet peaches, creamy burrata, prosciutto, and fresh herbs. Definitely one of my favorites of the night. The Sweet Corn Agnolotti was rich, buttery, and had that perfect fresh summer corn sweetness. And the Skirt Steak with fries was cooked beautifully, tender and full of flavor, with crispy parmesan-covered fries that we could not stop eating. First, let's talk about Sammie. If every restaurant had a Sammie, Yelp would probably have fewer 3-star reviews. She welcomed us like we were regulars, knew the menu inside and out, and steered us toward the Tagliatelle with the confidence of someone who knew we'd be thanking her later. She wasn't pushy, rehearsed, or robotic, just genuinely excited about the food. Those kinds of servers are rare. Honestly, Sammie is the fifth star on this review. Now the food. The Tagliatelle absolutely lived up to the hype. Rich without being heavy, flavorful without trying too hard, and balanced in a way that's surprisingly hard to pull off. Every ingredient had a purpose. After one bite, we completely understood why Sammie recommended it. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly. Great crust, tender inside, packed with flavor... and somehow the potatoes nearly stole the show. I know, they're potatoes. But whatever magic happened in that kitchen deserves some recognition because they were ridiculously crispy, perfectly seasoned, and impossible to stop eating. The burrata with stone fruit was another standout. Creamy burrata, sweet fruit, salty prosciutto, fresh mint, and toasted bread all came together into one of those bites that makes everyone at the table suddenly stop talking for a second. And then there was the mixed mushroom pizza. Some of the best mushrooms I've had outside of a music festival... kidding. Mostly. Seriously though, the mushrooms were incredible, and the pizza had that perfect balance of earthy, cheesy, crispy, and chewy that keeps you reaching for "just one more slice" until the plate is mysteriously empty. It wasn't. The Service: Unprofessional & Tacky Beyond Belief The red flags started the second we sat down. An Italian restaurant that doesn't put bread on the table automatically? Unbelievable. You actually have to ask for bread. Bread is the soul of an Italian table. Then came the absolute kick in the teeth. A fly landed right on the rim of my wine glass. Now, in any serious establishment, the waiter apologizes, takes the glass away, and opens a fresh glass of wine. What did this waiter do? He walked over with a clean glass, picked up the contaminated wine, and poured the exact same wine into the new glass right in front of me. Are you taking the piss? Transferring fly-soaked wine into a clean glass doesn't make it fresh! It's tacky, cheap, and utterly repulsive for a place charging these prices. Look, I'll give credit where it's due: the pasta itself is freshly made, and the quality of the dough is genuinely good. It has great texture and proper bite. But that's where the compliments end. The portion sizes are an absolute joke. I'm not asking for a mountain of food, but I shouldn't need a trip to a pizza shop on the drive home after paying top dollar. The Seasonal Special (Corn Agnolotti): They recommended a seasonal pasta dish--tiny corn-stuffed ravioli. Visually? Pretty. Tasting it? A total disaster. All it tasted of was sweet corn. That's it. No acid to cut through the sweetness, no depth, no seasoning, no nuance whatsoever. It was like eating warm, pureed canned corn wrapped in pasta dough. Where is the balance? Where is the chef? The cheese plate was great, and the pasta was amazing. But what really made the experience was our waitress, Gretchen. She was so friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond. I wanted to order a cocktail that needed ginger syrup, but they didn't have any. Gretchen let me know, and I said it was totally fine and that I'd just modify the drink. WELL, apparently, the bartenders went to the bar next door to borrow ginger syrup so they could make me the original cocktail I wanted! Like, WHAT?! We were always want to try this place but being located in west side of town we ended up never try them and some how try their new open closed by our house instead, and we love the food and their service there.
