The views are why you come apparently. It isn't for the service or the food unfortunately. I had been here atleast twice when coming up for annual cabin weeks. Last year my niece came here with my mom. She really wanted to go back here and we were excited as it was a nice day, to try to get a patio spot. When we got there, the patio spots were gone so they put us near the window, right next to the door. It wasn't a problem that we couldn't get the patio but every time a staff member or guest went in and out the door onto the patio, all of our napkins went flying with big gusts of air. Now it wasn't busy so they could have easily had us sitting a bit further from the door, still along the windows. Not a huge deal, just a random comment/suggestion to not put people right next to the door when there are plenty of other spots. We did order salads two salads with our meal. I asked what the cost was for a side salad and she said it is either $2, $3 or $4...she wasn't sure. I said that was fine and that I would like a Caesar. We never did get our salads. We did have a charge for one of them on the bill which they removed. The other salad never even made the bill. We ordered dinner. Two specials, two kids meals and another plate. Really a simple order, not too crazy or even with too many requests, we only had one request and that was chicken instead of salmon on one of the dinner specials. When we asked for drink refills, the server brought over a pitcher and put it on the table and walked away. We then poured our own water. Weird. When we got our food, we had ordered one salmon special/pasta and one special with chicken. For $18 I would have expected a chicken breast to be on top of the pasta. Instead, we received what seemed liked sysco/schwan's cubed chicken. The kids meals were gross. The grilled cheese sandwhich looked like it had plastic cheese. The mac and cheese that was ordered may have been easy mac? Overall we were completely disappointed with the service and the food. Maybe we had someone new but there were too many mistakes. If she was new, she should have had a manager following up on her tables/watching tables to make sure things were going ok or she should have asked for help if she was overwhelmed. read more

Love the ambience on the patio. Clean restaurant with attentive polite staff. Had a sample of the red door salad which I didn't favor very much and ended up ordering the grilled portabella sandwich and added pesto. Very good! You must visit this restaurant if you are in town. Sitting lakeside had to be my favorite thing about this establishment. There were decent drink and food options but it could be much, much better. Our service was pretty mainstream but the kitchen did forget a couple of things related to our food prep. I also received my side salad with my meal rather than beforehand which is a huge deal for me. We ended up eating cold food by the time everything was adjusted. It was unfortunate they never offered a complimentary dessert or cocktail for the mishap. read more

My family an I were staying at Chase on the Lake, the resort that houses The 502. I went to get a burger, fries, and dessert to go for myself on a Saturday evening. I went to the bar to order and there were 3 women working, with maybe 1 person sitting at the bar. I was not thrilled at the service I received when ordering my to go order. The girls lacked enthusiasm and did not offer me a water or beverage while I waited for my order. Once my order came out, it was in 3 boxes. I had seen other orders go out in bags with handles, so I asked for one as well. I would assumed all orders of multiple boxes should go into a carrying bag, as it is to go? I ate my dinner at the condo we were staying in at the Chase and was thrilled with the taste of everything. The amount of sweet potato fries I got was terrible for the $2 up-charge. The Burger was delicious and the regular French fries were good as well. They didn't have a dessert menu, but had two items available: a cheesecake and chocolate tort. I went with the chocolate tort. It was a good one-person portion and tasted phenomenal! The lack of stars comes strictly from the service received and lack of sweet potato fries. read more

I have been to the 502 several times while at Chase on the Lake, it was always awesome until this trip. The service was slow, not overly friendly, and just not like it used to be. My nephew asked for a menu at breakfast and the host couldn't even find a menu. At dinner the cajun pasta came without the pasta and there was no silverware given. Headed here for a late Monday dinner with my parents and we had a great experience. Mary was an amazingly friendly and attentive server and took great care of us. The blackened salmon was cooked perfectly and the bloody mary was flavorful without overloading on booze. I was initially nervous to come here after reading earlier reviews but the 502 has evidently turned itself around. Definitely recommend. read more

The service was terrible the couple times we went down there. The one night we went outside to sit on the patio and when we walked out we asked if the game was on and his exact words were "I don't give a sh**t!". We sat at a table and he barely looked at his when we were out there. At one point he was cleaning condiments off the table and just glared at us. The next morning we went down to the breakfast and the two waitresses were standing around talking, we had to go ask them if we could get some service. Our steak was over cooked. Our "white chedder fondue" was actually blended up cheesy potatoes. My burger tasted awful as if the grill was very dirty. I was supposed to get spinach on my burger and instead got lettuce. The tomatoes were not even tomato slices but actually tops and were MOLDY. The server spent most of his time on his phone at the server station and was not attentive. The Bloody Mary's however, were very good. read more

We were excited to dine while overlooking Leech Lake to celebrate my wife's Birthday! We made reservations, showed up in time, were seated outside as requested, and then waited for 20 minutes to see anyone and have a drink order taken. Another 15 min to place an order - our apps showed up almost 45 min after sitting down. Once meals were delivered, we asked about the wild rice bread fondue with our entrees (as promised on their website) our waitress said "oh we don't have that, but I can get you some bread rolls", only to return to say "I guess we're out", then she disappeared, didn't check on our meals, I had to go ask the host for the check (guess we're not getting dessert to celebrate my wife's Birthday). Disappointed to say the least. The bartender finally came to " box my leftover", which disappeared somewhere, never to be found again - he apologized and offered a drink for the bad experience- unfortunately too little too late! read more

At first glimpse, doesn't look like much. Kind of place that has a musty Ford Bronco smell and wet dog. A small stage to your left, a few long tables to your right, wood everywhere and the local folk of small town USA. A great place to start discussions about gun control, abortion, and economic foreign policy. But let's not get into that today so walk past through the bar to the hostess table and a much more civil looking room with nice white tables, space, decent smells, and an outdoor patio overlooking Leech lake. Ahh, there we go. Again, more than meets the eye, I was skeptical about every item on the menu and kept checking what the server was bringing from under the heat lamps and it surprisingly looked good. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip and oh lord was it tasty. Too much artichoke overtaking it will put my nose up and I'll back away but I couldn't stop eating it. Next came their house bread which was literally half a loaf of some sourdough and a delicious cheese sauce. After a long debate with the menu I steered away from the burgers, wraps, and sandwiches and went with the ribs(saw a woman eating them) and a side of fries. The server couldn't tell me what was in anything, what was good, or what's the name of the wine she could barely open so i took a chance but it paid off. My gf and her parents loved everything they had (fish and some prime rib) so all around pretty good for the city-dwellers and locals heading in from the bush for sustenance. Next time will stay later and see how rowdy the bar gets. read more

I was here for a conference, so i pretty much ate here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a whole week. I Tried to order something different every time. Very good ambience,staff was very respectful, although I thought the speed of service could use a little improvement, the food was ok. I would say way over priced (entrees) for what you get in regards to the quality/ price. I will say when they do the burger bar it is fun. I would eat here again, but have some reservations. You have a great place the hotel is fabulous, and great people work here accommodating to customer needs. Quicker dining service, and improve outgoing food quality you'll be a five! read more

The food and service were terrible. The host did not know how to seat us. The waitress forgot to bring our drinks and we were nearly done with our meal before she brought them. We summer in Walker and so usually visit the 502 a couple times a summer. We always have a good experience but not so tonight. We sat outside as usual, the view was beautiful. We ordered off the small plates menu, and the food took an hour to arrive. My dinner arrived way before any of my companion's dinners and after taking one bite of my flatbread pizza, I discovered it was cold (not even lukewarm). I told our server (Abby) and she was very apologetic and said she would have a new one made. When everyone else's dinner was brought out, mine came back with the same bite out of it (delivered by a different server who joked that there was already a bite out of it) and all they had done was re-warm it! At least that's what they said; but honestly it wasn't any warmer. I was appalled (aren't there health codes against that?) and let our server know and she was again very apologetic. She took my dinner off the bill. But lots of other errors....2 of our party never got their side salads, 1 person got onion rings instead of fries. She did make sure we didn't get charged for the side salad and she brought fries. I was expecting a visit and apology from the manager, but I guess that was over-expecting. The server did all she could but she can't control the kitchen. I hope they read these reviews because it seems our experience is not a one-off for this summer. read more

We ate at the 502 on June 7, 2017. The ribs were good as was the pasta dish my wife had. Our waitress was Kimberley. She did a very good job and checked to see how everything was. It was our anniversary so the manager gave us a complementary desert as a gift. We then took a 2 hour pontoon ride on Leech Lake to watch the sunset which was arranged by Randy Sander who also works at the Chase.. Very disappointing experience. Food was overpriced for the quality and taste. Service was very poor. We had to ask 3 times to get water for the table. They didn't serve all the meals at once. Waitress didn't know who ordered what meal so we had to pass meals around the table to correct person. We went to celebrate a birthday and would not return to this restaurant. read more

Memorial Day weekend. The host had no idea how to seat people. He sent them to the bar to wait and never called them. He just whispered their names and shrugged. "Must have left." Fortunately, we stood in line when he told us to wait in the bar and heard him whisper and got seated quickly outside, on the lake, which was nice, ahead of all the couples waiting to hear their names. My wife had the "vegetarian plate," which sounded good on the menu. The portabello mushroom was a few slices of something like a mushroom dipped in oil, the vegetables were corn kernels and carrots, and there was wild rice and mashed potatoes. We both ordered wine. It never came. My vegetable and sausage, chicken and shrimp pasta had no vegetables. The shrimp had no taste. There were a few cubes of diced chicken. The andouille sausage slices were edible but more like a hot dog. Next time we come here, if there's a next time, we'll bring our own food. read more

We biked 50 miles and stopped at the 502 to eat. We walked our bikes to the patio area and sat in the patio. The hostess came over and told us we needed to check in first before we could sit down. I'm definitely coming back for more of their award winning Black Angus Prime Rib! I had the 12 oz cut and was pleasantly surprised by the thick, generous slab that could be cut with a fork. The view of the lake was particularly cool as we watched a lightening storm send its mighty bolts out on the lake. There were "oohs" and "ahhhhs" similar to being at a 4th of July fireworks show. Prices are typical for fine dining and the service was satisfactory, while it was obvious that not all the wait staff has a ton of experience. read more

We went to the 502 restaurant to celebrate a special birthday. It may be the worst meal we ever ate! The stuffed cabbage was awful and the pork chop was not done. This restaurant is located on Leech Lake where the best wild rice in the nation is available and harvested, but the rice pilaf was made with cultivated wild rice and was dry and not tasty at all. Even the dessert was disappointing...the velvet cake was dry and the icing was still frozen. The service was OK but not good enough to give this restaurant a second chance....ever! The meal was more than $75 for two people. We are accustomed to quality food all around the area and expected much more from this restaurant. Bad. Very, very bad. read more

I agree with Adrieanne and Greg. Awful from beginning to end. I went on their website and did a double take when I saw the restaurant doesn't open up until 7:30pm and they don't take reservations. I called to confirm - yes, 7:30 pm. Yet, when my family of 6 and 80-year-old mother arrived around 7:30 pm on a beautiful Saturday evening of Memorial Weekend to celebrate my birthday and enjoy the view of Leech Lake, diners were finishing up their meals. Huh? Special hours for guests of the hotel? In the elevator, there was a winter hours sign stating they opened at 4pm. Confusing and dishonest. The restaurant was half empty (now I know why). There were many tables of 4 open that they could have pushed together immediately to seat us. But, they made us wait another 1/2 hour, didn't offer for us to get drinks at the bar or wait in the bar. Three of us had to stand for 30 minutes before we got to sit down, with empty tables and chairs staring right at us! We received no explanation other than, "Sorry, we are not ready to seat you". What the heck is wrong with this place. We asked about Birthday specials and the waitress flippantly said, "none, only that another year has passed." No Happy Birthday was given, oh, but it was written on the $150 bill. We waited another 40 minutes for our semi-warm food to reach our table of which we devoured because it was nearly 9:15 pm. The food was just ok. The waitress had to be reminded many times of refills on drinks. We didn't get out of there until 10 pm. This is the most tortuous, over-priced, unfriendly experience at a restaurant I have ever had. read more

Just got back from our stay at Chase on the lake and I must say that this place has some potential but it needs some work. Most of the issues with the place come from the lack of good employees. We ran into multiple employees that just didn't get it. The front desk made a bunch of mistakes and didn't seem to care. They didn't call me to wake me up after I scheduled a wake up call the night before. The rooms where very nice, the location was great and we liked the pool but that was about it. The biggest complaint we had was with the 502 Restaurant, we had REALLY REALLY bad service at our dinner on Sunday night. I ordered a $28 dollar Filet and it came out cold. The sides were also cold. Not warm, COLD. And the reason it was cold is because the server left the food on the counter for 15 mins before bringing it out to me. I could see it up there so I know. When I got the cold food I asked to have it warmed up and she did... but when the kitchen was done warming it, it sat there for another 10 mins and was just as cold when it got to me. I complained to the server that it was still not good and she just turned and walked away while I was still talking. I have never been treated like this before. No offer to make it right, just turned and left. Worst $75 dollar meal ever! She was so rude that I decided to skip tipping her as her behavior was unacceptable. SO now I am back home and I checked my credit card statement and guess what. The waitress decided that she did deserve a tip and I see that she added on one to my slip. This is theft, she treated us like we didn't matter then stole money from us to top it off. WOW. This place just doesn't get it. If they don't get their employees under control I bet it will be out of business in another year. I will not return. read more

The food is very mediocre, but you don't go there for that. You're there for the ambiance. The picture window view of the lake can't be beat, the servers are upbeat, and all the guests dining there seem so happy and light and content to be right there. The tomato gorgonzola soup was tasty though very heavy, especially for the summertime. We had salads that just didn't seem fresh at all - like they were made the day before, covered in plastic wrap, and stored in the fridge as is. I had the Olie's Chicken Salad and all the ingredients were subpar. Small, sad-looking artichoke hearts dumped right out of a can, two tiny slivers of avocado, an overcooked hardboiled egg, grocery store dressing, and a sliced piece of flat fried chicken that had more coating than meat. Some fast food restaurants have more meat inside the breading than that. While I wasn't brave enough to try Yesterday's Inspiration soup (that name just doesn't tempt me in the least), our table did, and again, the good-verging-on-mediocre result surfaced again. read more

We live in Hackensack and decided to go to the 502. I would have to say that the view is so fantastic, it is rather romantic and they have done so many things right. We came for the happy hour specials that we read on the Internet. I ordered a Martini, asked for olives and they didn't have blue cheese to stuff them with. Well, the price was $3.00 but when the bill came they charged me $l.00 for the olives. Can you believe, a martini and they charge you EXTRA for the olives??? I order martinis sometimes for THE OLIVES. My husband asked for bourbon on the rocks, they charged him for a double. The rail drinks are supposed to be $3.00 each and he never asked for a double, just didn't want mix with it. Just give him a SHOT! Oh my goodness, they are supposed to be an upscale restaurant and just a little more thought into the small things and you will not find a place to sit during happy hour and for the dinner hour. I live in Walker, so I eat here year round. During the summer, the 502 can be hard to rely on. You'll hear waitresses arguing over "who's taking the next outside table", your medium rare burger/steak isn't always medium rare, and refills take a while. There's always lots of new employees, and the restaurant gets very busy. This is the same for every restaurant in walker, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. During the winter, when they have their loyal employees who know what they're doing, the 502 is one of the best places to go to. When they are not so busy, and they only have 1 person cooking - If I look into the kitchen and see that one girl cooking, I know I'm about to get a very tasty meal just the way I ordered it. It should be said, any time there is something wrong with my food the waiter/waitress has always compensated for it and I leave full and happy. Try the 502, but use common sense. If it's the 4th of July, don't expect to get the perfect fillet mignon in 15 minutes. read more
